Ever since AlunaGeorge came onto the scene with a tracks like 'Analyser' and 'We Are Chosen', BNC have been eager to tell everyone how good they really are. Now that their new single is fast approaching its release date we felt compelled to get in touch.

We would like to ask about your next release on the 29th, can you tell us a bit about the track and the remixes included?

The single 'You Know You Like It' came about from trying to make a song based around one "beat". Mainly inspired from the way hip hop producers seem to work and manage to produce complete songs that work around a single 8 bar loop. The remixes were sorted out by the guys at super, Raffertie was kind enough to offer to do a remix and it was ace to get the B-15 project one too.

We would all like to know how you both work as a duo, is it 50/50? Do you both get involved with the vocal and production side of things?

The writing is a real joint effort. We have our main roles but we're both keen to suggest ideas and pointers to the other. We're lucky to be able to approach the writing from a few different ways which helps us getting out of writing slumps.

Whats to come from you in the future? We would also like to know what your relationship with Super is like and why you chose raffertie to do a remix?

The guys at Super are awesome, real nice guys plus Raffertie is hands down one of the most talented people I've ever met. We're trying to get an album together right now. Also playing a few live shows at the moment, we might be looking to do another release before the end of the year too if all goes to plan.

In the last couple of years what have you been doing to get you up to this point?

Last few years....dammm haha ive prob made over a thousand beats..most of them throw aways...
This shit takes soo long to progress. I studied audio engineering for 2 years which undoubtably helped me push forward...Even though im using the techniques they showed me in like the opposite form haha.

Care to mention any collaborations which you are fond of.

Collabs that i love are flyamsam, devonwho x knx, any of the L.A cats i guess. Im opening for samiyam next wednesday which should be doooope!

We think you are the furthest person we have ever done an interview with, whats it like down there?

Bro its alright down here, the women think they are way hotter then they are hahahaha but some cool cats around no doubt. We pushing some quality music out as well so keep your eyes open :D

A release that has been ticking over in my head recently to say the least is Last Japan's Settle Down EP. We got in contact with him to find out a bit more about it.

I guess my first question would be when are these tracks scheduled for release?

Settle Down EP which will feature Settle Down remixed by Asa, Bondax & Stumbleine, and Girl, hasn't got an exact date yet, but its for sure going to be next month. Starting with 12" vinyl release (which i am stupidly excited about) then a few weeks later the digital release, so all should be out by early September.

Secondly what made you go for Bobbie Gordon's vocals apart from the obvious reasons, yourself and Bondax seem to be on the same wavelength and I don't blame you, her voice works so well with the sound you seem to be going at.

We'll I've known Bobbie for the good part of a year now, through a uni friend and writing partner Luke for my other project NFIFTYFIVE, in which Bobbie has written quite a few tracks with us. So I've heard her vocal skills and quality and she's also doing really big things at the moment, like backing singing for the likes of Adele, Noisettes, and Ce Lo Green, and also her solo stuff. So when i wrote the track late December last year i knew she'd do a great job on it. When i was sent the Bondax track i suggested they use Bobbie for it, and she's done a sick job on their track as well.

Infinite Machine gets into full swing with their first release on 15th of August by our very own Admin, featuring remixes by Mirror State and Neat. The EP includes the two original tracks 'Inside of You' and 'No Reason', alongside two remixes of the title track. There are definitely big things to come from this developing label. The Independent Record Label based in Montreal, Canada says

"The aim of the label is to release and promote the music and friends we love. More directed to Bass Music,Post-Dubstep,UK Garage between more"

Infinite Machine continues it's good show of form with more releases to come including Bwana (who we featured in our last post) and B flat.

We talked to Bwana on his impending move to the UK and we discussed why music from these Isles is just so damn good!

What has made you decide to come live here? I'm very happy to hear you are enjoying our blog, it means much, what do you mostly listen to from the UK?

"I'm moving there for a year(and hopefully I can stay longer) to attend the University of Leeds. Its great because I live on the music that comes from over there(UK) and as well the tunes I've been making have started to gain some attention and I hope that by moving there I can meet some people in the scene, get better at production and as well as just finally be able to hear all my favourite stuff in a live environment.....in Toronto the majority of the bass music nights are just an ode to Skrileex hahahaha and for the last 3 or 4 years, all I've wanted is to go to DMZ."

"As for the music I listen to from the UK...well pretty with the exception of a few producers, pretty much all the music I'm listening to at the moment is from the UK hahah. I'm an avid follower of the Grime scene, and I love this huge UK bass movement that has emerged that seems to be blurring the lines between garage, dubstep and even house...and the best part is that half the tunes are being made by random kids in their rooms! I listen to far too much Garage or Future Garage as they are calling it now and am still awstruck when I hear anything by Coki, Mala or Kryptic Minds...unfortunately though neither of the three have been booked to come to Toronto. I should mention that at the moment my favorite producer is XI, who is actually from my hometown of Toronto. Ironically I first heard him on the Marry Anne Hobbes show as opposed to just seeing him here, but in any case, the tune they showed from his 'ghost' blew my mind and it really inspired me in that he showed with the right sound, a Canadian could have as much of an impact on the scene as anyone from the UK and 'filthy wobbles' wasn't the only route to international recognition."

iO, otherwise know as FLN has started a side project which seems to have sprung up from nowhere. Taking on a more garage/bass rhythm, in less than a month, four solid tracks have been broadcast. However I'm confident that these took time, a lot of consideration to make and where probably held closely to the chest! The decisive standout for me would be 'Hospital Walls', with an intro which took me straight away. Trust me, I didn't expect what was to come after the kick, so i won't spoil the surprise. Lets just say it is pretty fucking heavy. Saying that I don't want to take away from the fact that each of the tracks is fantastic in it's own unique way. From 'Patchworks' variety of rolling drum motions teamed with vocals that take on all levels of pitch, to 'Dirty Little Secret', a dirty little 808 roller! Under the alias of FLN, Rob Burn has also produced some sickening jungle so also make sure to take a gander at that too.

Introduce yourself. Who are you, what do you do and where do you do it?

My names Joe. I'm a producer from a quiet little town up north called Frodsham. Lived there all my life since about 8 months ago when I started my degree at Uni of Arts London. I'm pooting along with my course, but I'm enjoying London for the scene. With the somewhat iconic 'boiler room' just 2 minutes away from my Halls, I'm starting to realise this is the place I need to be!

How did it all begin?

God knows really man. I've always dabbled. One of my mates was an MC and I couldn't do that for shit, so I just downloaded Fruity Loops and started making beats.

What are your musical roots and what is doing it for you at the moment?

Just always loved music. I can't pinpoint one moment where I've been into it less than I am now. It's always been pretty important to me. So I have tooooo many roots man! Hip-Hop, House, Garage, Soul, R&B, Grime... List goes on really. You could play me an old grimey banger like Ruff Sqwads 'Tings in Boots', or a Rhodes and Bass fuelled slow jam like 'What You Won't Do For Love' by Bobby Caldwell, and I would be chuffed with either haha. At the moment I'm just engulfed by UK Bass music. Everyones making huge tunes at the moment. Whether it's coming out of Hessle Audio, R&S, Punch Drunk, Pictures Music, Young Turks... It's usually amazing stuff. Even the upcoming labels like Four 40 Records, 3rdeyeldn and Bullet Train, all releasing great tracks.

Can you tell us a bit about your setup and how you build tracks?

My uni room desk is just filled with my equipment, it never sees uni work! Couple of sub standard old monitor speakers, my trusty old HP Pavillion computer, M-Audio midi keyboard and my Traktor S4 Kontrol. I produce on Reason 4.0 because I'm shocking at torrenting and have never been able to get hold of the better software like Cubase or Ableton. Its all right to work with though and I'm well comfortable with it.. but I will be switching to something else soon probably! When building the tracks I usually just grab an acapella, chop up the hell out of it, make something cool sounding and go from there. I always start with the vocal though, I just find my tunes come out better that way.

Are you planning anything in the way of bigger projects?

I'm half chilling now really. My first EP was released a couple months ago now and it's doing well. It's being helped along by some big backings like International DJ Magazine and everyone is just being well helpful asking me to do interviews, mixes, collabs ,remixes just to get me out there! I'm having fun with it all at the moment! I've nearly finished the next material I'm going to put out. Haven't spoke to labels or anything yet but there will be another release from me soon!

Would you kindly introduce yourself for all those bootsncats readers out there!

Im Berou, I come from the north of France. From a mysterious city which looks a lot like Manchester. I currently live in Brussels, Belgium. And make music alone or with my homies from Club Cheval or from Pelican Fly (the new Brussels based label)

Can you tell us who are you main influences how music has affected your past?

My biggest influence is definitely hip hop. This music is my first love. When I was 13 I discovered New York hip hop. And all the east coast rap. I was a big fan of Dj Premier, Ghetto Boys, Fat Joe. I was also totally in love with Aaliyah. Her sensuality, her voice, her producers. She was so perfect. So talented (RIP). I also enjoy some West Coast Music: Eazy e, E-40 Bloods vs Crips (my favourites I think), the old Ja Rule tracks, Z-Ro, Dom Kennedy, Smoke Dza' This is not west coast club music, but just VIBES, Im sure you all know what I mean. After this step of my musical life I was more into RNB (still Aaliyah). To be honest I love R.Kelly but he has never been one of my gods. I think Ive been totally mind fucked by the first track of the first album of Lloyd: ATL Represent, you know the track featured by Ja rule (the beginning was something like: I want to introduce you my 18 years old n**** Lloyd. Damn, Im always so moved by this track).

At this point I am been more interested in the South of the USA, but I dont really have a favourite rapper in the south. Im still hooked on the West Coast weed vibes music. Freddie Gibbs is another example of an amazing guy, but there is nothing better than the next album of Smoke DZA whose title is "THC" (best sum up possible of the project).

When I was 20 I discovered electronic music. It was the French touch music trend era, there was no way not to listen this music. I think my tastes in were pretty "main stream" during 1 year. All changed however when one of my mates introduced me to Sam Tiba and Canblaster, beginning a long friendship. Sam was also a lot into hip hop and ghetto electronic music. But Canblaster was the ONE to know all the electronic music in the crew. Ive stolen his vinyls when he was sleeping before to learn about Detroit Music, Chicago house and 2 years ago he gave me the chance to listen some UK bass shit. I totally fell in love with this because of 2 reasons: the melody (I remember that B more music was the "stuff" when I discovered UK scene, and we cant say that b more is very melodic). It has been a big slap for me. The second reason is the energy in the uk bass music.

Between this, Ive play piano since I was 11 years old. So you can better understand how melodic aspect is important for me.

What kind of music is really doing it for you at the moment and what are you busy with at the present?

I dont know if I can really answer to this question. Cause I am not really a digger for the current producers. All the stuff that I receive in my mailbox come from friends. But in my friends there is: Lucid (I love his music approach), Samename (a guy from Manchester, just remember his name uk people because this guy is fucking gifted), Bosstone (also an Australian, he is my vibes brother I think), Sam Tiba, Canblaster and Mister Tweeks.

In the non-friends group, I am a big fan of Sampha, Kastle, Salva, B Bravo and Chaos In The CBD. But for the last 3 or 4 months Im really digging UK Garage/2 Step. I am also a lot into Chicago house, RNB, all this new west coast scene (Currensy) I cant give you names cause there are too many names that I like.

At the present I am very busy with remixes. I dont know if its frequent in music, but I always remix guys that I like. Ive remixed for Dabo for Bossman Records. At the moment im working on a remix of Bosstone for a release on a new amazing Australian label. Im also working with Mister Tweeks from Pelican Fly, with my men Dj Slow and Kid strike too. Gonna make a remix for Kidnap Kid on Squelch and Clap. I also have a track to finish with Canblaster. So, yes, very busy.

What can we expect from you in the future?

New remixes for friends. One of my values is to only work with friends. I need to know a bit about the label manager to work with him. Its always good to be confident.

I also maybe working on original tracks and feats for a mysterious Belgian label and also certainly an ep for a mysterious label. Cant give the name today. I need to work a lot. You know Im still a kid in the producing world. I make music alone for 6 or 7 months. Everyday I learn a new trick. Its amazing to realize your producing progression and I still have a lot of skills to improve. Happily, my mates are always ready to help me.

Any tips for budding producers out there?

Hey guys, just buy a mini Canblaster. Available in all the Chinese shops.

Anything else you would like to say before you go?

I'm Robinson, 19 years of age and i'm making fresh beats in my bedroom in Coventry, UK

What are your musical roots and what is doing it for you at the moment?
Music has always been the biggest thing in my family. My grandad has taught Music at Leeds Met for around 20 years and my Dad's just gotten his PHD in Composition, my grandad was the first to do so in the UK. I started the same as most people with piano lessons when i was about 8 but it wasn't until i was around 13 and my dad showed me how to insert a new VST layer on Sonar that i first started making proper tracks. In secondary school i used to make grime beats for all the MC's to avoid gettin my head kicked in and thats how i came into the more garage/dub side of things. Right now i'm playing a lot of Flying Lotus, Actress, Two Inch Punch, Emeralds and old school jungle mixtapes i found in my attic.

Can you tell us a bit about your setup and how you build tracks?
All i have now is a laptop running FL Studio 10 with about 1GB of RAM, a Korg padkontrol and a prophet '08, a lot of people shun me for using FL but it's their loss. I usually build tracks by just ripping off other people.

Are you planning anything in the way of bigger projects?
Right now i'm just focusing on my degree, but in between that i'm doing bits and bobs for tv, remixes for friends and alike.

Introduce yourself. Who are you? What do you do, and where do you do it?

"My name is Adam Flynn, 23 years old, I'm a producer as well as working a job, currently based in Stockport, a little town neighbouring Manchester"

What are your musical roots and what is doing it for you at the moment?

"I have a lot of roots in experimental music, ambient to be precise, made my first releases in that scene when I was about 17 and I think that's had a big impact on how I'm doing things today. I've been making or trying to make computer-based music since I was 11.
So much music I find inspiring right now, I like my deep stuff but also been listening to a lot of soul records and some arabic stuff for influence, check the artists in the mix too!"

Can you tell us a bit about your setup and how you build tracks?

"Yeah, it's not much. My setup is very austere haha. I'm running Reason and Logic Pro- sometimes I rewire them. I own AU plugins and all that, I love the Zebra, but the box-standard stuff like Malstrom, Sculpture, EXS24, and ES P I'm using heavily for synthesising, Trueverb, Space Designer are my favourite effect plugins at the moment too, always loved my reverbs.
I've had no classical training in music or sound engineering whatsoever when I was school or college and I think I wear that on my sleeve with my production, as a result I don't have an effective work ethic. I just try to make something more enjoyable than what I would have made the day before. When building a tune I often try to write out a nice loop, sometimes beats and bass, but mostly synths and melodies- I've probably made hundreds now. If I can listen to a loop for about 10 or 20 minutes without getting sick of it then I'll usually build on it.
I try to make music that I'd like to listen to; something that I can come back to in a few months or maybe even a few years down the line and still get a little tingle from it, and if anyone else is feeling it then that's a huge, huge bonus."

What's the background of Flaming Idiot?

"I got this little collective going last year, we've just had our first run of digital releases on a tight schedule with a lot of help from Admin and Tanka, been getting some nice feedback on them. Soon getting ready to do some more releasing later in the year from the likes of Mirror State and Kapture, another producer living in my area. It's given me something music-related to do when not producing. For most of the guys this was their debut and I'm proper thrilled to see things starting to take off for all of them now too, although I don't believe them being involved with this label had much to do with it as I knew from the start that all their music was pretty special and bound to get noticed."

Are you planning anything in the way of bigger projects?

"I've got a track coming on Vol. 2 of Ministry of Sound's "Adventures in Dubstep & Beyond" on June 6th, as well as getting some kind of release out there this year. I've started on some ideas for an LP, no idea when that will surface, just when I feel I've done it right, got some more collaborations coming up but I can't reveal who with yet."

Anything you want to plug before we go?

"Yeah, if anyone is looking to grab some of my music any time soon, then look out for "Adventures in Dubstep & Beyond" vol. 2, out June 6th in all good record shops, I'd would also recommend people into their garage/dubstep check out the releases on Flaming Idiot Audio!"

Got this in the inbox the other day from Mahni who is really beginning to create his own unique sound with some really strong tracks under his belt. He's very good at using a crisp bouncy bass which seamlessly progresses and you just want to hear more n' more.

Neighbourhood Watch - It's kind of suprising that we havn't posted this sooner but here you go, here's something you don't hear everyday.

Admin & Mahni - Formattin' by ∆dmin

I have been itching to do another post on Bruises for a while now. Once again we will say a big thanks for the track 'Snow Roses' we put up as a limited free download over the christmas period. Now here's a couple of tracks which stand out from his collection to date. 'Introduce me to your friends' goes in hard, a proper stomper, distorted but still very tidy indeed. More recently im really liking the contrast of low and high pitch vocals which are used in 'Would You'. His EP 'Rabbit' will be out in may so watch out for that.
