The year was 1975 and the music world was prolifically and creatively pumping out great music every other week.   The airwaves were flooded with all kinds of great music. Everything thing from Country, to Pop, to Southern Rock, to Disco, to Funk ...to Hard Rock: great music was consistently being written, recorded and released to the masses.   Elton John was singing about his Philadelphia Freedom,   David Bowie was telling us all about "Fame".     The Eagles were procrastinating with "One Of These Nights". KC and The Sunshine Band taught us all how to "Get Down Tonight" and Olivia Newton John was flooring this 12 year old's love crushed heart, with "Have You Never Been Mellow".

I still love ya', Olivia!

Seriously, was there ever a more prolific decade of such a wide and diverse amount of creativity and great music? Personally, I think not.

Meanwhile and unbeknownst to the unsuspecting public,   Gene Simmons (of Kiss),  in a small night club in Washington D.C. had just discovered a band called Angel. Simmons pitched Angel to Neil Bogart of Casablanca Records and they eventually signed.     Little did they know the influence Angel and their "image " would have on the 80's music world.

For those of us who have a deep passion and love for music, musicianship and the instruments used to create our beloved music: the heavily-armed raid on Gibson 's facilities in Tennessee (on August 24th 2011) was a major head-scratcher, as well as a disturbing precedent. This was not the first time Gibson has been raided. Back in November of 2009 the Justice Dept conducted their first raid on Gibson and walked away with half a million dollars of Ebony and Rosewood. This time, they walked away with a million dollars worth of fingerboard wood.

Sometimes It's Better Not To Go Back - Rockin' Jones Beach With Whitesnake

This one was my fault, partly. I saw Whitesnake in 2002 at the Nassau Coliseum on a dual headliner bill with Scorpions. My memory of that one is being disappointed after getting myself fired up to relive some of my youth with 2 bands that I had seen numerous times in their heyday.

Fast forward to 2011 and it’s announced that Whitesnake, Tesla, Sebastian Bach, Lita Ford and Firehouse would be playing Jones Beach. Upon first glance it looked like it had potential for a fun night out. The show was going to be a day after my wedding anniversary and me and the wife, we still have a certain affinity for Tesla (she walked down the aisle to Love Song at our wedding) and I know that they still sound as good if not better than ever. Even when it was announced that Lita Ford and Firehouse would not be performing, we were still sold on spending a night out with our memories.

The show was last night and while Tesla was just as good as I would have hoped, Whitesnake was worse than I thought, so with apologies to Sebastian Bach who we missed because it’s just too damn hard to get to Jones Beach by 7PM from Manhattan on a weeknight, here’s Whitesnake 2011 in my eyes:

A few months ago while assessing the new streaming music options at the time (Amazon Cloud Player, the presumed Apple alternative) I came to the conclusion that they all fell short of my preferred method of streaming, the Subsonic Music Player.

Today I am still using Subsonic as the primary method of streaming my home collection of 47k MP3’s, but have embraced some online services as complementary options as well.

In April 2010, President Obama had a Supreme Court vacancy to fill and former President Clinton was asked whether his wife was a candidate for that position. His response was that he and Mrs. Clinton were too old for nomination and suggested that President Obama “appoint someone 10, 15 years younger.” The reason the Clintons were too old? Streaming Music The Best Way

While Amazon has jumped the gun and rolled out their Cloud Drive service giving everyone with an Amazon account 5GB storage online for free to store their music files online and play directly through the Cloud Player, people are eagerly awaiting Google and more importantly Apple's move.

It's been assumed for quite awhile that it's only a matter of time that Apple offers their "Music in the Cloud", iCloud or Mobile Me's Music or whatever they wind up calling the product. People are seemingly waiting with baited breath.

My question: Why?

The Sox losing to Cleveland for the second consecutive night almost makes up for that disaster in the Bronx last night.

Yeah, you got that right Jay Bilas! As usual the experts look real good heading into the Final Four. Just 2 weeks ago it was an abomination that VCU was even considered as a play-in to the tournament. Now they're playing for the right to play for the Championship!

To be fair, the team that all of the analysts were so up in arms about being passed, Colorado, is in the NIT Final Four and very well could win it. I wish this clip wasn't edited because there were many more great quotes that night and VCU was the butt of most of the jokes.

Movies are often the most effective way to teach life lessons. This list of ten great films shares many common themes including overcoming injustice and intollerance and the importance of courage, faith and loyalty. As a bonus, they are all very entertaining.

1. Brian's song – This is the true story of two young football players selected to be the first interracial roommates on the Chicago Bears. Their friendship allows them to overcome racism and have the courage to face the adversities they are dealt.

2. Chariots of Fire – The real life story of two British Olympic runners. One was a devout Christian who ran for the glory of God and the second, a Jew who ran to overcome prejudice.

3. Its a wonderful life – George is a good man who reached the end of his rope and was about to take his life until his guardian angel intervened in a surprising way. On St. Patrick’s Day I thought it would be a good idea to point out how important the work of St. Patrick proved to be to the preservation of western culture.

St. Patrick was not born in Ireland. It is believed he was born and lived near the modern day border of England and Wales. He was captured at the age of sixteen by pirates and taken to Ireland in captivity. After living in Ireland for six years as a slave, Patrick escaped and returned to his native Britain.
