Sheds are enjoying an unmitigated revival currently, and Border Fencing explore how and why in this latest blog post! Read on for more!

To many, sheds are a symbol of a bygone age, a simpler time. Their often rustic appearance plays up the part, and whilst for the last few years a garden shed has become an almost unusual sight, that recently has completely turned its head. The Daily Express called it a ‘huge revival’, whilst their presence at the 2012 Chelsea Flower Show proved the returning popularity. For us here at Border Fencing, sheds have always been our passion, and now we can deliver these stunning new, private, personal get-aways to you, tailored, designed and built to suit! But what’s so great about the modern shed?

Freedom

Sheds offer the kind of escape that annexes and other similar such extensions of the home simply cannot. Their entirely independent location gives them a true ‘other-realm’ aura, a separate space that is wholly one’s own. Indeed David Budd, owner of shed enthusiast news group uk-rec-sheds.org.uk says “The shed, with its contents and use, is a major archetype within the male psyche”, going on to explain how knowledge of the joys of shedding seem to be largely unknown these days, speculating further still that this lack of knowledge may be contributing to the breakdown of modern society!

Functionality

Sheds have always been functional items, and whilst their prowess delves far deeper than their surficial applications, it’s undoubtedly true that, when safe, extra space is required no matter what the intended use of that space may be, a shed can supply. The shed atmosphere is particularly productive, it is a place for ‘tinkering and for making’ to quote designer shop Conran who displayed their thoughts on mounted shed display inside their Chelsea establishment, a testament to the sentiment undoubtedly.

Flamboyance

That Conran quote didn’t stop there however, as they went on to explain how sheds were also ‘ripe for design’. Heading back to the Chelsea Flower Show, the examples on display there were truly inspiring, showcasing just what can be done with the modern shed to differentiate, stylize and personalise every inch.

Here at Border Fencing, we’re proud to be able to help reignite the passionate flame that once burnt inside sheds up and down the country (although not literally, of course) by delivering a huge range of options and alternatives on structures, sizes and styles, all tailored to your needs and designed to ensure you have the space to design, escape and enjoy. Give us a call today to find out more!

Having a centre of attention in your garden is integral for making it flow visually! As such, here're a few ideas for garden focal points from Border Fencing!

Focal points are an integral aspect in any garden. Often they are implemented subconsciously; we might instinctively work around an idea, or an immovable object that then becomes the centre of attention, or we might spend the majority of our time and effort on one particular area whereby the rest of the garden becomes secondary to this, whether it’s a collection of plants, a nice bit of landscaping, an ornamental birdbath, or something bigger. Here then are a few great ideas for focal points in your garden that we here at Border Fencing can help you with!

A good way to start when thinking about focal points is to decide what it is you need. Think what you’re going to require in your garden, so what’s going to be there anyway. Something like a large tree in the corner is likely a permanent fixture, but many of us require space to keep our garden tools and outdoor paraphernalia, something you could build with the rest of the garden in mind.

Shedded to Bits

Sheds are, of course, the storage space giving constructs we’re referring to, and with the range of quaint designs available, they don’t need to be the mere functional buildings we offer consider them to be! With the right style and type of wood, the right adornments and a perhaps a bit of gardening and landscaping to accentuate it, your shed could easily be the eye catching focal point of your garden!

All Decked Out

Decking has a beautiful, unique overall visual, something that’s instantly noticeable in your typical garden and something that is easily added to with flower and horticultural surrounds. You have an endless array of options when it comes to size, style, type of wood and how you’ll place it in your garden. Adjacent to the patio? In the corner? Border Fencing can supply beautiful railings to really help your decking stand out and turn it from more of the same, into something truly unique!

PATHological

If there were a scientific formula for creating picturesque scenes, garden paths would no doubt be an element of that equation. They are the meaning of quaint and, with little effort, can be the focal point of your garden. No matter how you choose to floor it, with decking style planks perhaps, or a rustic, stepping stone combination, adding in fences and gates will make a significant difference to just how eye catching you can really make it, and that is, of course, something we can help you with!

For more on our work, give us a call today, and we’ll help you turn your whole garden into one beautiful focal point.

Border Fencing explain how your winter garden doesn't have to be the barren wasteland that many become in this latest blog. Read on for more!

The colder months can be ravaging to the garden, they can leave it looking desolate and war-torn, drab and grey and of no interest to anyone. It’s an easy predicament to find yourself in, but, in that respect, you may be surprised to learn that it doesn’t have to be the case! Quite the opposite in fact, as with a bit of careful planning, you can engineer your garden to look even better in the winter than it does in the floriferous summer months, that is presuming of course we British are afforded a summer this year.

So what makes your garden look great. Let’s start with the easier stuff shall we? Plants. Using the right plants to adorn your garden during the winter is paramount to keeping that rich and textured sense of colour alive. Evergreens are a great way to start and perfect for the border, whilst a structured element of colour, bright stems, bulbous berries, anything that’s going to augment the piercing sprinkling of white will do. If you’re feeling particularly flavoursome, Topiary tends to work well this time of year, as its shape is retained underneath the elements that lay on top. Clipped hedges and simple potted shapes will add a sense of visual interest with ease.

The extras are where you can really have fun. Try to think what might look interesting against the snow or the rather barren feeling that winter can impose on a garden. Patios, gravel stone pathways, and fencing all tend to look quaint and appealing when it’s cold outside, whilst doing something interesting with railings and decking will look great now and be even better if and when the sun finally reminds us all it exists.

If you’ve got a shed, why not build a small pathway to it, line it with a fence and a gate and sporadically add in potted hedge style plants along the way, perhaps adding a hanging basket to the door way of the shed as well!

Follow these simple tips and you’ll have created the perfect winter wonderland garden in no time, your neighbours and visitors will wonder how you did it, and they’ll be even more impressed when it still looks great in July! Of course, for all fencing, gating, railings and even sheds, Border Fencing can help. As experts in the garden, we’re happy to advise you on what’s best for your particular situation, so give us a call today!

Looking for a change before the New Year rolls around. This latest news post discusses how a fence can spruce up your garden as well as add a practical element.

Is your garden lacking a little something? A new wooden fence could be the final piece of the jigsaw. Whether you’re looking for something to add some character, or simply wish to mark a boundary, Border Fencing can help you find the perfect addition to your garden. Fences play a crucial role in garden design, so it’s worth spending a little time searching for the perfect one.

Protecting Your New Fence from the Elements

If you’re going to install a new fence this winter, it’s important to learn how to protect it from the cold weather and frosts that plague the British winter. Taking steps to protect it will ensure you get full value for money out of your investment, and it continues to look good for many years.

It’s a wise idea to paint your fence before installing it in the ground. Using a waterproof paint will prevent the wood from absorbing water, which may cause rotting. Applying paint with a sprayer will make sure all parts of the wood are covered. You can then use a paintbrush to guarantee an even spread over the wood. Treating the fence in this way will ensure it survives the winter without damage.

Making Your Garden Look Quaint with a Fence this Christmas

The number of unique and varied fence designs available from Border Fencing means there will be something for every garden. You can make your garden feel extra Christmassy this year by installing a classy fence that adds to its aesthetic. If you like Christmas lights, you could tastefully drape some over the fence to help create your own festive paradise.

Border Fencing’s products are double sided so both you and your neighbour will have a great view of the superior craftsmanship. This makes it simple to go halves on the cost. To find out more about purchasing the best fencing Birmingham can provide, call today on 0121 371 0890.

Here's the latest guide to Family Garden Planning from Border Fencing, in this first post the trade off between design and practicality is explored!

Garden design is a whole new realm of possibility, especially for those among you that are more artistically inclined. The great thing about this kind of work though, is that even if you only have some basic ideas, you can call in the professionals to get their advice on how to go about turning your garden in to a gateway to your personality, a blank canvas upon which you may scrawl and scribble, no matter what ability to you have, or you have not.

Today, we’re looking at a family garden. How would you put together a plan to make a great space for you and your family to live in? How do you juggle the many aspects required for a family garden whilst still creating with the space you have? The answers are below!

Naturally, a true family garden needs to be practical, almost above all else. A close second, is, of course, those beautiful natural and contemporary aesthetics you’ll want to attribute to your green space.

A combination of surfaces is a good way to begin, think of decking, patio, grass and plantlife, and the kind of space you’ll need for each. With kids, it’s best to have a good deal of garden space for them to run and play in, but that doesn’t mean there’s a limit to what you can do around the edges and away from the main area. The planning stage is for you to decide all this.

Try drawing up a scaled diagram of your garden and marking out areas for each of the aforementioned aspects. You can squeeze a lot into a small space when you plan out in this manner.

Planting is one of the big factors to consider, as you’ll want to do this strategically, keeping out of the way of the kids, yet being focal enough to maintain an element of interest in the overall aesthetic , and baring maintenance and shaded areas in mind. Vegetable or herb spaces are great too, for food and even for educational purposes for the children.

Making space for sitting in the sun, perhaps via decking, as well as putting in a path will stop the worn-away look that dead grass will give on a route or patch that is over used, as well as adding interest and visual dexterity to your space!

Lastly, sheds are a great, practical addition to any family home and allow for the storage of items that would otherwise clutter up the garden space!

Look out for more great garden design tips coming your way from Border Fencing and stay tuned to this page for all your updates!

Whether you’re simply a DIY enthusiast or carry out your work from home, a dedicated workshop or studio will be your number one dream. A place you can work quietly, without distraction and with all the room you need. The only thing making this just another ‘dream’ and not an attainable reality is the question of space. It can be hard to take a large amount of it away from your home or family – but have you ever thought about utilising your garden for your workshop in Birmingham? Well now you have, and here at Border Fencing we are here to show you it could be the best decision you ever made.

A Garden Building to Let your Creativity Flow

You could be an artist, a sculptor or even a writer and are fed up with having to turn your bedroom or dining room into your ‘workplace’ at any possible moment – with it never truly giving you the environment you need to focus, with unwelcome distractions or restrictions constantly rearing their heads.
With a sturdy, eye-catching yet affordable garden building which our team can design and build to your own needs, you gain that space you aspire for, leaving your home to be what it should be: a home, and your garden building a place for work, your thoughts and where creativity can flow and flow.

Workshops that Work for You

Another problem with trying to work inside your home could be the amount of noise or mess you could be making when carrying out whatever it is you’re doing… maybe you’re an avid do-it-yourself carpenter. Once again, these versatile, secure and long-lasting garden workshops are the solution to any problem, unlocking what could be often unused space in your back garden and turning it into an extension of not only your home, but what you can do when it comes to work.
