lighting solutions

2009-11-18T12:51:00.005-04:00

This is amazing. It's magnetic. It's a light. & It's pretty looking.

The little ball that's hanging from the bottom is how you turn it on, and then it just hangs there magnetically.

Then you just take the ball and place it on the side of the lamp, and that turns it off! So Cool!

To see a little video of how it really works, check out Constance Guissett's website here.

e is for entertainment unit

2009-11-13T14:49:00.005-04:00

You would think that with a step father that has a custom furniture company that one would be able to get the perfect entertainment unit, right? Well I guess all it takes is asking said step father to see if he's busy or not...

This is a good one. I like how they tv doesn't really look like a tv, I mean at first glance it just looks like it is some black picture on the wall. I like that.

I'm not sure I'm really a huge fan of this one, I don't like how they have the electronics so on display.

Again, this is a favorite of mine, the way that they've made the tv blend into the whole wall area. It's a winner in my books folks!

This one is perfect, right down to the globes and star, see, stars have been my "thing" since middle school, and I always wanted to have a collection of globes, but alas, I've only ever collected...one. This room is how I dream of having my cottage decorated one day. And I say cottage, even though I don't have one yet, I just know that i will have one. I even have a wicker chair exactly like that one already.

d is for dusting

2009-11-13T12:58:00.004-04:00

Here's a question: When do normal people find the time to dust? I was just looking at a bunch of house tours and when there's a close up of these peoples table tops there is absolutely no dust at all. I mean, sure if you know your house is going to be published on the interweb, then you clean like mad for two days prior, but seriously are these people's homes this clean all the time?

dream home

2009-11-12T13:00:00.008-04:00

I was just looking at apartment therapy and stumbled across my potential new favorite dream house. It is the most amazing house I have seen in a very long time, complete with amazing views and pool in the backyard! Love it! Check out the rest of the house tour here.

My dad is a pretty incredible photographer and filmmaker. Not that I'm bias or anything, but his and my step mother's latest documentary film, NORM is nominated for a Gemini Award this year!
Here are a couple of his shots from our summer trip to New Brunswick to visit my grandparents.

small spaces

2009-10-31T22:24:00.007-03:00

Man oh man. I really could not imagine living in a studio apartment or anything like that. I have to give major props to the people who can make a home out of such small spaces. My place is only a one bedroom and I swear I need more space, mind you that could be due in part to the fact that I have a lot of crap in my house.

cat house

2009-10-17T15:38:00.003-03:00

So this kind of follows the last post. I found this in the comments of the last house tour I was talking about (the kitty loft). Now this is one couple that is majorly devoted to their kitter cats! They've got a website, The Cat's House and it has a ton more photos than what I put up here, so I totally recommend taking a look if you're feeling down, or even if you just want to see some super happy cats!

Casey, look out! I want to do this to our house, k? thanks.

loveyoubabe!

They've made a cat walk through their entire house, through walls even.

I'm not sure how many cats they have but I'm pretty sure there's at least 3 more than just the ones in this photo.

Really, when you think about it, if you've got like 6 or 7 cats, then why not give them space above you so they're not always underfoot?

This guy wins best photo ever! I can't stop laughing, every time I look at it, he just looks so amazingly happy! Great, now i'm the crazy person at work that laughs to herself!

busy bee

2009-10-17T14:54:00.005-03:00

I've been sick. I got a cold on Tuesday and it pretty much knocked me on me arse. I've just spent the last 4 days in bed cuddled up with a pretty cute 70 pound dog that thinks he's a little puppy. I gotta say, that was the absolute best part of being sick. Finnigan didn't leave my side the entire time, at one point he curled up behind me and layed his sweet little head on my side and went to sleep, AH i love that dog!

SO anyway, last night I was catching up on my emails and ended up on apartment therapy for a good hour and a bit, and came across a house tour that I had seen about a year ago, but had completely forgotten about. It's the most amazing idea I've ever seen, if you live in an apartment and don't have a lot of room for your kitties, this is definitely for you.

It goes all through the house, and into the kitchen. I personally don't think I'd like to have my cats crawling around the ceiling in my kitchen (think-cat hair in food) but meh, maybe their cats don't shed?

That looks like one happy kitter cat!

You can check out the rest of their house tour here.

heavenly space

2009-10-03T10:18:00.004-03:00

I have one particular website that I visit daily, if not multiple times a day, Desire To Inspire, it's just an absolute pleasure to the eye to see what they come up with to post every day. Then just a few minutes ago when I was looking on Apartment Therapy I came across a house tour of Kim, who is one half of Desire to Inspire. Looking at each pcture it is as if she took all my favorite design elements and threw them all in one house, and it actually works too! Especially the 6 cats element, I aspire to become a crazy cat lady with at least 6 cats.

Also check out the couch too! She and her boyfriend custom made it, and now it's all I can think about when I sit at home on my crappy couch. I'm thinking that with my connections (step father owning a custom furniture company) that I should be able to get one made easily. It's on the to-do list, among about 149 other things.

(click the kitties and it'll take you to the beginning of the house tour)

amazing bedrooms

2009-10-03T09:46:00.009-03:00

So it's an early morning here at the box office and all I can seem to think about is my bed. I can't have my bed for another 7 hours so I'll just look at other beds I found on Apartment Therapy. The 6th one especially makes me want to go back to sleep.

book blog

2009-10-02T14:52:00.005-03:00

I've just started reading a new book, The Host by Stephenie Meyer (Twilight author) and I would highly recommend it to anyone already, I'm only on the 2nd Chapter.
Here's a review I found on it on Amazon.com.

From Publishers Weekly In this tantalizing SF thriller, planet-hopping parasites are inserting their silvery centipede selves into human brains, curing cancer, eliminating war and turning Earth into paradise. But some people want Earth back, warts and all, especially Melanie Stryder, who refuses to surrender, even after being captured in Chicago and becoming a host for a soul called Wanderer. Melanie uses her surviving brain cells to persuade Wanderer to help search for her loved ones in the Arizona desert. When the pair find Melanie's brother and her boyfriend in a hidden rebel cell led by her uncle, Wanderer is at first hated. Once the rebels accept Wanderer, whom they dub Wanda, Wanda's whole perspective on humanity changes. While the straightforward narrative is short on detail about the invasion and its stunning aftermath, it shines with romantic intrigue, especially when a love triangle (or quadrangle?!) develops for Wanda/Melanie. 10-city author tour. Seeing Red

2009-09-29T14:21:00.007-03:00

So I want to paint my living room red. I know it's a hard colour to go about, in terms of making sure you get the right shade, but I just really want my living room to be warm and cozy. Right now it's painted a very pale, very cold feeling, purpley/grayish colour, and it just feels so cold and empty. I want to walk into the room and feel like it's warmer and cozier and comfortable. See, here's the thing. I only have one window in there and it doesn't get any light during the day, the only time there really is any light that gets to it is in the evening when the sun is setting (on those rarer and rarer sunny days). So there in lies the problem. Am I going to be making a mistake by making it feel small and in closed? Or will it have the effect that I want, warm and cozy?

summer lovin'

2009-09-29T14:08:00.004-03:00

So I was sitting here at work and thinking about the summer, you know, since we're at the end of September and it seems to be getting colder and colder lately. And you know what? I had a pretty fantastic summer! I got to go camping with some work peeps (which was a blast), I got to then go camping again at my parents cottage on probably the hottest weekend we had all summer, you know you really can't beat swimming in the ocean for hours! Also I think I've seen my sister Laura Mae, who's an actress based out of Toronto, the most this summer than I have in total in the last 3 years. So all in all it was pretty fantastic. This is not to say that I'm not looking forward to the winter though too. Snowy days/nights? It really doesn't get much better than that. I gotta say I love living in Nova Scotia because of all the seasons!!

my bathroom!

2009-09-26T21:04:00.005-03:00

So this is my bathroom. Yeah, I know, I'm really opening myself up here, but I wanted to show you the travesty that is my house. I know that there really isn't anything that I can do to change it, it's just plain old small.
The only thing that I can do is dream, right? So this is mine, hey, check out that super small sink in there?! I know, riiight, it's from a trailer or something. SUPER SMALL!
ps that's my little Miss Willow cat sneaking in for a drink in the tub. C. doesn't like the kitties in the bathroom, I on the other hand am indifferent.

This is the smallest bathroom sink I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure that when I went to Florida when I was 17 and stayed with my Aunt and Uncle in there camper (huge trailer) that thier sink was bigger :) HAHAHA Oh yeah, the windows are complete with bars for burglars. I sort of live in the ghetto.

I'm standing in the bathtub taking this picture

This is the from the doorway, when sitting on the toilet, you can't close the door. You have to walk into the washroom, turn around, close the door, then sit down.

Black Rooms

2009-09-24T21:36:00.018-03:00

So I'm trying to decide on clolors for painting my bedroom. I've been going back and forth between a dark grey, black, and purple. When I first mentioned to C. about painting it black, she was a little put off, but I'm thinking I'm leaning more and more towards it now though. Here are some prime examples of how beautiful a dark bedroom can be.

2009-09-24T21:08:00.006-03:00

I've been waiting for tonight for what seems like ever! GREY'S ANATOMY is on!!! I can't wait. 45 minutes and counting. Survivor will have to help me pass the time. Ahhhh, tv. I admit it, I'm a television whore and I'm not ashamed either.

hula hooping

2009-09-24T14:59:00.006-03:00

I'm taking a hula hooping class with my friend Steph, starting this Sunday. And I have to say that I'm a little nervous. I've never done any sort of group activity (when I was in grade 5 my teacher made me get out on the gym floor and play floor hockey and all I remember was that I stood there leaning against the wall bawling my eyes out), and ever since then I've always taken private lessons of whatever I took, pottery, swimming, piano...Buut, I'm an adult now so it's really about time that I get my head out of my ass and get out there and do it! Apparently the classes burn a ton of calories so that was pretty much a no brainer for me there.

Below is a picture of the teacher, Monique Ryan.

Mario Testino: A GOD among photographers

2009-09-20T20:24:00.007-03:00

Mario Testino is one of the most amazing fashion photographers that I've seen. Years ago my Mom found me one of his books on the discount table at Chapters and ever since then I've been in absolute awe. Bonus here: there's a Kate Moss photo in there, as well as one of Agyness Deyn (more on her to definitely follow, she's another favorite.)

my garden at it's peak this summer

2009-09-20T16:30:00.007-03:00

I didn't get as many good photos of my garden this year compared to last years. But this is just a bit of it. Next summer we will be doing a major overhaul out there. We plan to put out grass seed and fill in one of the gardens that we have in the middle of the yard and then move everything from it over along the fence, so Finnigan and the kitties can have more room to run around. The majority of the space out there is all mud because last year we didn't have Finnigan but we did have a vegetable garden.
