Unfortunately we’re quite a ways off from most of the inventions in Back to the Future II, but we’re getting closer every day and Google Glass is a big step in the right direction. What I’m most excited about is the potential to tap into augmented reality and make walking down the street the coolest thing since hover boards. Now the first models of Glass may not be able to support augmented reality like a video game HUD, but it’s only a matter of time before our view of the world is enhanced by digital information – and this is going to turn local SEO into an incredibly competitive field.

Glass Already Targeting the Local Niche

How do I know this? Well the practical applications behind Google Glass merit themselves to being locally focused. Yes, you can search for any global query with it – but the fact of the matter is that Glass is taking our eyes off the screens and putting us back into the now (at least that’s the hope).

Instant Reviews

Imagine looking down a busy downtown street that you’re unfamiliar with and there are signs stacked on ads and ads stacked on signs until you don’t know where the beauty salon ends and the great Thai restaurant begins.

With a simple nod of your head activate Glass and ask it something like, “show me the best restaurants on this street.” Seamlessly syncing with Google Local, Google Maps, Street View, Picasa, and other Glass users around you; Glass can not only tell you exactly where you are, but where you are looking in real time.

Now comes the HUD to integrate with the real world. Four and Five star ratings taken from Google Local float alongside restaurant signs and doors. Places where your friends and contacts have been are highlighted with their personal reviews along with their filtered photos of the food they ordered (what a hipster) if you want a closer look.

Choosing a spot, you have Google Glass make a reservation for two on the Thai restaurant’s website in half an hour because you just saw your friend walk by, who you would have missed if you’d been looking down at your phone, and want to grab a bite of coffee (drinking coffee is sooooo 2013).

Becoming a Part of the Action

With all that being said – being a player on Google Local, online review sites, and encouraging your customers to promote your positive reviews is going to be of vital importance to get more foot traffic from Google Glass users (which will be everyone, obviously). Who knows what Glass SEO will look like, but you can bet after looking at the recent trends in Google’s changes to its algorithm that it’s going to be heavily based on user reviews.

Changing the Game

Right now, local SEO is a bit of a crap shoot. You sign up for as much local directories as you can and engage on Google Plus/Local to foster positive reviews and hopefully rank in the local listings for the keyword queries. Well local listings get thrown out the window when users are standing and looking down the street, because everyone is being listed! This will level the playing field eventually, but those who already have a presence on Google Local and have fostered positive reviews will have a BFG leg up on their next door neighbors who are trying to compete for the same foot traffic.

Local Ads

Please, Flying Spaghetti Monster, let holographic (okay, augmented reality) sharks swoop down upon us for Jaws 99!

Google Glass Spaghetti Monster

This day cannot come fast enough for me. I’m the guy that will skip back on DVR to watch a new GEICO commercial and I cannot wait to see what kind of clever ads that the marketing teams come up with for augmented reality. Forget bidding for the highest PPC ad, what about trying to best your competitor in a game of wits when it comes to your Google Glass advertisements for the people walking by your shop.

Imagine mirrors where digital clothes model themselves on the Glass wearer, or eye catching “pop-ups” that interact with you. Better yet, what about the new age of street performers who use can amplify their shows with augmented effects. There is an iceberg of advertising potential that could blow local SEO out of the water like never before.

Google Glass, or whatever comes from it, is changing the way we interact with the world around us. Augmented reality in real time will be possible because I’ve seen Minority Report and I want it to be true. Jokes aside, it’s only a matter of time before this kind of local search engine becomes a big player for small and big businesses alike, and setting the cornerstone now by becoming involved on Google Plus and Local could pay dividends in the future. Sure, you may be playing right into Google’s hands, but you won’t be feeling so smug when you see foot traffic walking by you because you aren’t showing up on in Google Glass.

In the past few years there has been a remarkable shift in the way the developers are creating the websites. Most of the users have already shifted onto the different mobile platforms together with new browsers that support the HTML5/ CSS3 web standards. You will find so many unique thoughts flowing out from the designer’s community. Therefore, it seems like new entrances are being restored every few months.

In this article you will get an idea on the most recent trends that have been evolving for the time. Among them there are many of the designs that are around for a long time. In the year 2012 we have seen several new trends that appear in website design and one of the most distinguished being the growth of responsive design.

Mentioned below are some of the essential website design trends that you require to know for the year 2013

Mobile First Design

The concept of responsive design is not just limited to full sites scaling down lesser. The ideology that is surfacing among the designers is to commence with mobile and then create it according to the concept of the designer. It is much easier to plan out your interface elements and then squeeze each layer of the concept into mobile layout. If all of them don’t fit you need to drop out quite a few. Simultaneously, you also need to plan out on how the design will look once the window goes bigger. You will have enough of room to incorporate a sidebar, if it’s possible maximum 2 sidebars together with various other page components. Therefore, this trend points towards a necessity to fill mobile interface as the main concern among the Internet users. Most of the desktop browsers will be compatible and happy with new layouts as long as everything works perfectly. It is quite difficult to nail down on the mobile platforms and therefore it is advisable to get started with something that is small while you plan to opt for a larger design.

Infinite Scrolling

There are few social media sites that have started to pin down infinite scroll effects onto the various dashboards, timelines along with user feeds. This effect got much attraction due to the huge popularity of Tumblr and Twitter’s unique layout style. And recently it is also found that Pinterest is following the same path in their homepage. This is helpful as it gives a seamless boundary without reloading the page. But then the users using the website will face a hard time generating the permalinks for the dissimilar kind of pages. Furthermore, it also brings up the vital point that all of the sites will not need endless scrolling.

Whitespace and minimalism

Both of these terms whitespace and minimalism are thrown around a lot. And this is very true that these trends are a part of website design for a sometime now. They have developed to play a part as the new spectrum of creativity. There are numerous sites that make use of whitespace as a design tool that will force the users to focus basically on the basic content.

Natural Design Elements

The CSS3 have brought in various kinds of changes. Among them importing typography with the help of fontface in addition to keyframe animations are few of the elements that exhibit the advanced traits. These traits also comprises of box shadows, rounded corners or background gradients through a flexible container.

So, these are the top four essential website design trends that you need to know in 2013. Therefore various web design agency need to follow all of these four trends to get more visibility.

Though websites owners were preparing for this for long to qualify the new norms set by the giant search engine but it went harder than their expectation. Link removal and disavow campaigns bring just a little more visibility to the sites. Moreover, Google’s penalty has gone more focused than ever before considering not only site as a whole but all the parts individually.

A Fresh Approach For Link Removal

Though, there are lots of ways to find unnatural links but not even a single one among them seems to be perfect. But there’s a new way which may prove to be very efficient for the purpose. Let’s see.

It has been more than one year to the penguin update but still more than 80% of the sites are still struggling. Besides, lots of people are suffering from manual penalties and are making constant efforts to be reconsidered by Google but the success is still far to seek for them. We can conclude two things from it-

Recovering from the penalties is not an easy task.

No existing link removal method is perfect.

Before discussing the fresh approach to the removal of the links, let’s first discuss the existing methods and their shortcomings which make them imperfect.

Link Removal Methods Being Currently Employed

When it comes to link removal, the methods being used currently are related to-

Over Optimization of Anchor Texts

Inundating sites with low quality links

Using just one particular type of link

Links scattered throughout the site

These metrics are considered to be very reliable techniques for link removal, and that’s why they have gained extreme popularity. These techniques are really essential to be kept in a link removal campaign but observing the results obtained through them clearly indicates that some more efforts are needed to be done.

The present methods are very efficient in finding links from those sites which have done excessive link building but all these techniques go inefficient in finding plenty of branded links, even if they are unnatural. Such links can easily stay undetected. This shortcoming gave rise to the need of finding a new, and really efficient, way to detect the unnatural links.

Let’s Check Out the New Method

There’s a very good method for detecting unnatural links which don’t feature the limitations of the methods being used presently. This method is based on the trust of the sites that links to you. To understand the importance of this “Trust Factor”, you are required to be educated about the linking of the entire web and the process of Google for considering the overall web architecture linking.

It’s quite difficult to understand the complex link graph as a whole but there are two easily comprehensible facts..

Authoritative sites link to authoritative sites.

Spammy sites are linked to spammy sites.

These facts are known to every website owner on the planet but nobody wants to read between the lines. There are so many things which can be learnt from it. Authoritative sites follow the practice of linking to only those sites which are authoritative and relevant. On the other hand, due to the structure of current methods, spammy sites get linked to other spammy sites within the same niche. We can understand with a very simple example. Bad people get along better with other bad people whereas the good people belong with other good people. As they say, same feather flock together.

Most of the link building methods are automated. They insisted on creating a high volume of links through various techniques like blogs, forums, article sites etc. These techniques used to create links with any low trust sites. So it’s very imperative to ascertain the trust of the sites which link to you.

Method to Determine the Trust

You must have understood the importance of the trust of the sites that link to you by now. So now, you are highly interested in knowing the way to find that trust. Lets’ have a look.

The process doesn’t suppose to be a complicated one. It can be done easily and conveniently with the help of Majestic SEO link metrics. This metric is based on the same principals and technologies on which Google works to evaluate links. This metric has Citation Flow and Trust Flow which perform similarly to Google’s Page Rank and Trust rank.

How do Majestic SEO link Metrics work?

To understand the overall functioning of Majestic SEO link metrics, we need to understand the functioning of its two main components, i.e. Citation Flow and Trust Flow.

Citation Flow- This one is based on the Page Rank model. It’s helpful in finding what rank can a site get. It can help site owners a lot in finding the potential of the site.

Trust Flow- Trust Flow is there to ascertain the trust inherent in a link. It employs manual SEO methods to evaluate the trust of the site which makes it a very reliable metric.

It’s very simple to understand that a link having good citation flow but poor trust flow is a spammy link. Thus the metrics can be of very help in finding unnatural links. Isn’t that very simple and beneficial.

Majestic’s Metrics Let You Create a Trust Ratio

Creating trust ratio is a cakewalk, provided you are using Trust Flow and Citation Flow. Its formula is:-

Trust Flow/Citation Flow = Trust Ratio

Let’s understand it through two examples.

Site 1

Citation Flow = 40

Trust Flow = 50

Trust Ratio= 50/40 = 1.25

Site 2

Citation Flow = 35

Trust Flow = 7

Trust Ratio= 7/35=0.2

Through the above examples, one can easily guess that Site 1 is an authoritative site whereas Site 2 is a spammy one. The trust ratio of Site one is above 1 and is way higher than Site 2. This trust ratio can be very valuable in locating spammy links on a website.

Your Research Should Be Niche Specific

Before ascertaining the trust ratios of links attached to a site, one must figure out and consider the trust of the particular niche. All the niches have their own trust standards according to the competition level. For example a domain having a trust ratio of 0.5 may be a poor site for one niche but it may be an average one for another niche.

How to Find Average Trust Ratio of a Niche?

In order to find average trust ratio of a given niche, we need some specialized tools like SEO Quake which can help in exporting some data from SERPs of Google. If you want to download SEO Quake, you need to follow the following steps.

Download and install the suitable version of SEO Quake for your browser.

Set it up properly to install the Google SERPs overlay.

Go to the search engine settings of Google and raise the amount of results to be displayed in 30.

Installation and utilization of SEO Quakes can be very useful in determining the trust ratio of a niche.

How to Locate Low Trust Ratio Links in a Penalized Site?

When we are educated about the average trust ratio, all we need to do is to find the low trust ratio links linking to the site. Those links with poor trust ratios are needed to be removed or disavowed as soon as possible. This thing is to be done manually as you need to consider the ratios carefully. Let’s have a look at the process.

The domain of the penalized site should be put in the Majestic site explorer. You need to select the domain option button instead of the URL as all the links related to the domain are to be considered. You can click of the “Ref Domains” tab to have a look at all the referred domains. To export the data, you are required to click on “Download CSV” button. By observing the data obtained carefully, you can easily recognize the spammy links.

How to Remove the Spammy Links?

Once, we have recognized the spammy links, we need to think about getting rid of them. You can contact the sites to which the spammy links are related and ask them for removal, but this method is very complicated and time consuming. There’s a very simple way to do it. Make a list of all such domains in a text file and submit to the Google disavow tool.

After disavowing, you are required to either resubmit to the search engine or wait till the next algorithm penalty refresh to find whether the penalty has been withdrawn or not. If it’s of no use, you need to tighten the ratio. Higher the ratio and repeat the process. You can also use excel sheet, if more domains are to be captured. Keep on repeating the process until the penalty is lifted.

Majestic SEO is a very powerful link analysis tool used by SEO specialists, affiliate marketers, and business owners alike. It can show you advanced results to help your website rank at the top of the search engines for various keywords.

There are so many uses for this tool such as: link analysis, competitor analysis, link building, reputation management, monitoring backlink profiles, etc. There is so much this tool can do and it is extremely useful for SEO companies.

A nice benefit that many people do not know exists is the free report they offer for verified site owners. What this means is that if you own a website you are entitled to a free backlink analysis. Although this is not all the tool does, it is one of the most widely used features.

To enable this all you need to do is sign up for an account and add your website as a verified site. Create a free account at http://www.MajesticSeo.com and go to reports. Add a new report and on the next page it will ask you if you own this domain and want to get a free report. Click on the link that says free report or go to this URL: http://www.majesticseo.com/reports/create-free-report to get your free report. Once here you will need to upload a .txt file with a verification code for the name. The easiest way to do this is with a FTP client such as FileZilla. Save a blank notepad file with the code given to you by Majestic SEO. You will then upload this to the root directory of your website. If you are confused you can call your hosting company and they will gladly walk you through the process. Once this has been completed you will need to wait a few minutes to a few hours for Majestic SEO to gather all back link profile data.

You are given three report types for few, standard, advanced, and tracking (BETA). I would suggest using the advanced as this will give you more details about the backlinks and where they point to on your site. It also lets you see if links are going to http://yoursite.com or http://www.yoursite.com which is seen as two different websites by the search engines.

The report shows an overview of all your backlinks, a history showing when they were discovered,
Your link profile which analyzes trust and citation flow, referring country for domains, anchor text used, internal URL rankings, top-level domains (TLD), referring domain, and IP addresses.

The reports are even updated every time you log back in with fresh data so you can always know what is going on with your website and how it is looking to the search engines when it comes to backlinks. You can even download and export entire reports of your backlinks, anchor text used, linking domain, and much more useful information.

Ever since Google announced the retirement of the Google Reader platform in July 2013, users around the world have been wondering how to replace their beloved former favorite RSS feed. Luckily, Google has announced this news with three months notice, providing a “sunset period” to users to be able to download their feeds using their Google Takeout program and transfer them to a new feed reader. Now that it is time to find a replacement for the product, many people are looking for a new daily reading solution that allows them to follow lots of RSS – here are some of the most popular products that can serve as a new reader for old Google Reader fans.

Feedly: The Best Things in Life are Free

Lots of Google Reader users are turning to Feedly as the top replacement platform. In fact, many people made the switch to Feedly before Google’s announcement, since it has really helpful aspects such as news suggestion algorithms, sharing mechanisms, and customization features. They are currently offering a seamless program that helps Google Reader users transition to their services, all while syncing with social network platforms like Facebook and Twitter so that you can share your stories and articles with friends and followers. Looking at layout features, there are so many customizable options that help to save your eyes from stress and make it easy to pick out headlines and determine trends. As the service develops with the arrival of more and more readers over time, we expect that the offerings of this platform will continue to develop for the better. Currently, this program is available for free as a browser extension and a mobile app for both iOS and Android.

NetVibes: A RSS News Reader With a Strong Social Connection

This Google Reader replacement option focuses on flexibility and social networks: building your feed through smart suggestion technology and feed algorithms, you can switch to the service with little hassle and virtually no training time. Though the premium and advanced services are quite expensive at a high monthly fee, you can stick to the basics with this program by using the RSS feed reader features for free, and also track your friends and their reading habits at no additional costs. The one downside: no apps are available for Android or iOS yet, so you’ll have to stick to reading on your computer and directly from the internet browser for now. Make sure that you have a strong wireless internet connection here in order to use NetVibes all around your office and home without any disconnection or interruption.

Streamlined Surfing: Pulse

Looking to cut back on all of the reading you do, finding great topics but sifting through the fluff? Pulse is a reader that filters through much of the material in your feed to find pieces that are fit to your needs, and will bring those stories most likely to match your interests to the top of the feed. Of course, you can skip these functions and use Pulse simply as a standard feed reader, but then you’d be missing the key feature that makes Pulse stand out from the rest of your standard news aggregators. Importing your Google Reader feed via mobile is easy, and there are plenty of syncing and storing mechanisms that will help you catch up on your reading – wherever you are.

Reasons that Google Reader is Closing Down

Many users are quite confused: why is the legendary internet company closing down one of their most popular products? The web giant responded that they are aiming to consolidate their development resources on a few particular products over the coming years, and that Google Reader was experience a decline in the number of readers over time. However, as shown above, are lots of great options that have been in the works as webapps, mobile apps, and browser extensions that can take the place of Google Reader without too much fuss.

The Internet has opened avenues across the world and people of various regions and nationalities use the web extensively. This being the scenario, it is time to think of reaching out to people who do not speak, read or communicate in English or a few other international languages. The only answer seems to be to go multilingual. If you could think of making your

site multilingual, think of the amount of international traffic that will be diverted to your site, it is simply mind boggling. Here are a few tips on how to make your WordPress site multilingual and reap the benefits.

Now that you have decided to create a website in other languages as well, you don’t have to worry too much about the framework in which you site is already programmed. When you use WordPress, you have the benefit of many options in the form of plugins that should make the task a lot easier, saving precious time in the process. Each plugin comes with a unique list of features, depending on what the ultimate goal and objective of your site are. All you need to do is to plan meticulously and execute.

Start with localizing WordPress

Did you know that the installation of WordPress can be localized to several languages? Whenever you go to the homepage and download WordPress, you will find that the default language is English, if you just go to the ‘WordPress in your language’ section on Codex, you will be able to install your preference for WordPress backend. There are many options that you can use to do your translations. However, you need to be prepared to spend some time and money in order to get a perfect translation that is acceptable to you and your client.

Plugins for translations

The easiest method of translating the content in your WordPress to several other languages is to resort to using Google’s excellent tool, the API V2, which is a script based on JavaScript and provides options for machine language based translation. Google assists in translating automatically the content and posts on the website as per your requirements. The Google AJAX plugin is an excellent way to begin with.

Plenty of benefits

This form of instant translation is very beneficial to site owners as the person seeking to translate will never have to leave your site even for a minute. In today’s fast paced world, you cannot afford a customer to get diverted even for a second, as it is important to hold the attention of a visitor to your site. The great thing is that you do not have to do anything much other than having the plugin in position. Another great advantage is that you can choose any of Google’s languages that are available without having to pay anything extra.

Pay and Use

The only drawback, if you could call it that is that you need to pay $20 per month for using Google Translator API, version 2, with a cap of 50 million characters. Another point to remember is that the Google brand presence will be felt as all the translated documents will carry the Google stamp. You may also run the risk of having to put up with subtle errors as the work is being done by a machine. The saving grace however is that you can use Google’s Translation Editor to check the content for errors that may have crept in.

Help from Servers for translation plugins

Alternatively, for those of you who wish to exercise more control over the content in other languages, the option of open source software exists. These server-side plugins are adept at handling general website translation issues. The best would be to explore possibilities of creating a development WordPress install and check out how it works for you. There are some multilingual WordPress plugins like Multilingual Press that make it a lot easier to build multilingual websites and use WordPress’ multisite feature, for which you need to first setup WordPress multisite installation. If you anticipate more traffic in a particular language, you could devote a site or blog exclusively for that language and have Multilingual-Press create duplication of content.

How to detect the user’s language

You don’t have to wrack your brains too much about how to detect what the user’s language is. There are WordPress plugins that are specifically meant to detect the user’s location and language. The other multilingual plugin options that you could investigate are qTranslate, Polyglot, mLanguage, Language Switcher. In case you need more options, a search for WP plugin directory will yield excellent results. You will find plugins that are listed with ratings, and you should obviously choose the ones with the best ratings. However, Google is yet to create a mechanism to differentiate translated content from content that has been duplicated in another language. An element of risk does exist.

According to StatCounter.com, mobile device users make up for 14.35-percent of the worldwide Internet browsers as of February, 2013. This is more than 6-percent higher than it was a year ago. Although the numbers are starting to level out somewhat for the two months prior, there is still continued growth. Mobile Internet browsing is an important aspect of life worldwide. Why should you care about such usage by mobile device users?

1. Accommodating - According to the numbers above, nearly one out of seven people that visit your website could be using a mobile device. If the pages are too detailed and image heavy for a mobile user to benefit from, they will move on and most likely not return. What makes these pages unattractive for mobility?

Font sizes

Images

Tables larger than 1200 pixels

Inability to scale down

2. Business Perspective - According to Statista, Inc., 11-percent of e-commerce sales were completed from mobile devices. If you own an e-commerce website, approximately 1 out of ever 10 buyers could be from mobile devices. The data also suggests that this number is continuing to rise at it has been since 2010. If your website isn’t mobile device friendly, you could be missing out on a great deal of income. If you haven’t invested time into discovering what you can do to improve the functionality of your site, you better do so quickly as your competition is raking in the benefits.

Mobile Commerce Applications 2013

3. Not a Fad - As smartphones were coming into the spotlight, many speculated that mobile computing of this nature was nothing more than a fad and the tablet computers are nothing more than experimental units that won’t gain traction. Nearly every statistical analysis since 2010 shows a steady growth of mobile technology. As these devices become more and more sophisticated, it could be laptops and netbooks that could be viewed as fads. According to the data provided by Forrester Research, Inc., laptop and netbook sales will level as desktop PCs drop. However, tablet PC sales grew surpassing each PC unit type as of 2012 and is estimated to continue being on the top for the next few years. This doesn’t mean that mobile PC computers were a fad, though. This just means that people are drawn to mobility and practicality over general functionality in a heavier and more awkward to carry product.

Netbook Tablet Sales

4. Site Longevity - As more and more mobile devices take to the Internet, you need to make preparations to make sure you can capitalize on this growth. Before you realize what is happening, mobile devices could surpass desktop and laptop browsing and your site could suffer by not providing a method for these visitors to utilize. As the competition is very high for virtually any niche on the Internet, you need to ensure that your site is among those that can be utilized by all before it fades to a dim memory of its previous former glory.

Redesigning your site for mobile functionality can be accomplished a number of ways depending on how your site is constructed. Some sites can use CSS coding to reshape images and more to fit hand-held screens, while others can utilize redirected domain names such as http://mobile.yoursite.com in order to accommodate this growing trend of mobile browsing by providing a smaller version of your site. Don’t dismiss the numbers because it is doubtful that your competition has.

With each update from Google, the search results are becoming smarter as far as distinguishing words with different meanings.

What is Knowledge Graph?

Google announced its Knowledge Graph (KG) in May 2012. Its basic utility is to offer searchers with a factual summary of what they are searching for. This is especially applicable in cases of biographies of prestigious personalities, star cast of a film, musicians’ tour dates etc. It is available across the world and is displayed only if you enter a search string in English.

The primary objective, as stated by Google, of Knowledge Graph as a tool is to help you get:

The best summary

Accurate information

Deeper knowledge about a search string

Google’s basic purpose behind introducing KG is to facilitate a more intelligent search. You get a more relevant and refined search result as the tool enables the search engine to understand the entities and subtle differences in meanings of the words and phrases entered in the search box. It does it almost as immaculately as the human user, making a search engine think like a user.

Google‘s KG is primarily a knowledge base which consists of over 18 billion facts and 570 million objects. It has been continuously been updated since its inception, which includes the new feature of a sidebar that offers a snippet of the relevant facts and the ability of a search engine to differentiate between words with distinct meanings.

Prior to this tool, if you searched for ‘Eagles’, Google would display a mix of information including both the bird ‘eagle’ and the band ‘Eagles’. But now with KG, Google can offer results relevant to the ‘eagle’ you have searched for.

What are the benefits of Knowledge Graph?

Its greatest benefit is that it allows you to find exactly what you are searching for. It no longer gets confused between similar words with distinct meanings thereby offering you a more precise search result.

Advertisers can also benefit from this new feature. How? They will no longer have to battle with irrelevant search results for getting the valuable top right corner of the result page. As the pages are few, they have lesser competition for outranking your brand.

The tool also allows you to pull strings with the purpose of enhancing the reputation of your brand. This can be done by leading consumers to sources with the most pertinent brand messaging. You can update your content strategies for getting additional advantage of Knowledge Graph. You can contact a good Google SEO company for doing the job for you.

If you wish to know how KG can help your brand by displaying the right message about it, you have to be aware of the sources from which information is pulled by it. In order to understand it in details, you need to understand Knowledge Graph Sources.

What are Knowledge Graph Sources?

Wikipedia, CIA World Fact book and Freebase are the websites from where Knowledge Graph gathers its information, which is displayed in the right sidebar of Google’s SERP. You get to manipulate the information that is to be displayed when you submit the same to Knowledge Base Sources.

While submission in CIA-managed Fact book is next to impossible, other KG sources may provide you with SEO opportunities for enhancing your brand.

You can control the display of messages regarding your brand by getting yourself a page in Wikipedia. Once your brand gets a place in Knowledge Graph information in a SERP sidebar, it is essential for you to reexamine the summary content in order to determine its origin. This will prove to be helpful in case you wish to change the summary of your brand.

Content Strategy

On-site content strategies can be benefited by Knowledge Graph, particularly after the Google Panda update. Prior to this update, content strategies typically involved the development of unique pages using all the keywords. Then, two distinct pages were created for two distinct phrases with the same meaning. And each of the pages was optimized for one of the synonymous phrases.

Now the problem was that as the two pages were about the same topic, their content was bound to be similar. But under the Panda update, similar content was tagged as “thin content”, thus devaluing them. This became a threat for a Google SEO company.

But, with Knowledge Graph, this issue can be solved because of the tool’s ability to connect semantically similar phrases, thereby creating and optimizing a page that is capable of ranking for all synonyms. Thus, it not only allows a website to rank for several keywords but also offers a better user experience, while perfectly complying with Panda rules. A user gets benefited because he gets the exact information he requires without much effort.

I believe you’re familiar with the endorsement feature on LinkedIn. With this feature, you can easily endorse other people’s skills without having to write a lengthy, written recommendation.

In case you don’t know, the number of endorsement you receive affects your word- of mouth referrals, connections and search engine rankings.

So, do you want to get more LinkedIn endorsements? Here’s how…

          1. Re–build your Endorsements

When I first started out on LinkedIn, I didn’t realized that I had skills from my previous career that made no sense to my current business (which is a guest blogging service) until I came across an article on vertical response. Since then, not only do I update my skills, I also moved them above my profile, and I got a couple clients as a result.

Pro tip: if you haven’t updated your skills since you opened your LinkedIn account, do it now.

For example, you may have listed skills that better applied to an old plumbing job. Now that you no longer work at that job, your current followers don’t know you for those skills.

Here’s a word of advice: visit your ”profile and skills” section, edit them for your current position. This way, when people visit your profile, your current skills will pop up for them to endorse.

          2. Don’t be selfish–Endorse Others

Yes, you read that right. I didn’t mean to be rude–I just said that to dazzle you.

If you’re expecting others to endorse you, endorse them.

When you endorse your connections, they receive an email notification that you’ve endorsed them and that email notifies them to endorse you.

You see, it’s a win–win situation. 50/50. No cheating.

How to Endorse Others:

If you don’t know how to endorse others on LinkedIn, here’s how to do it:

          3. Visit their Profile

Scroll down to ”skills and expertise section” and endorse the skills they claimed. It may be one, two, or three. It’s your choice!

          4. Be Smart–Move your Expertise Section to the Top of your Profile

Yes. Make your profile visible so people can endorse you without having to scroll down your profile.

Here’s how to go about it:

Click to edit your skills.

Scroll down to the ”skills and expertise section”.

Place your curser on the ”skills and expertise” section and drag it up.

Drop the ”skills and expertise” section higher up on your profile so your connections can easily see it!

Your turn to ”Wow’’ me…

Have you edited your linkedIn profile since you opened it?

Have you started endorsing others? What are you waiting for?

What do you like about LinkedIn endorsement feature?

Do let me know what you think in the comments section. I’d be waiting to reply your comments
