It’s official – this is the last sucky Sunday of the year! By this time next week, I’ll be parked in front of the tube, watching football. Real NFL football. I’m so excited, my fingers are tingling. Football season is so close, the boyfriend is already complaining. (Why on earth did I fall for a guy who doesn’t care about football? Love is funny like that sometimes.)

Anyway, I am so glad this summer is almost over. It’s been hot, I’ve been working like a mofo, and it’s been hot. Bring on the fall! Give me cowl sweaters and falling leaves and football and sweat-free drives to the office.

Other items of note: I’ve found myself repeatedly using the word “gajillion” at work… like a gajillion times.

Have you heard, Tom Brady doesn’t like the Jets. That doesn’t surprise me in the least, after the Rodney Harrison proclaimed last year on NBC how much New England hates the Jets. And it’s funny because there is nothing I hate more than a NY Jet.

But Tom Brady publicly admitting his disdain for the Jets also reminded me of this old gem that never really aired much:

Time to return to real life

The summer’s just about over (not that I’m complaining!) and all that’s left is St. Anthony’s Feast (yay!) and Labor Day. Then it’s nothing but football, cooler temperatures, and nice fall clothes (my favorite).

But in the meantime… a look back at my Hampton Beach, NH week:

Vacation’s over

The vacation’s over, folks, and I had to return to work today. And how does my beloved work computer greet me after a week-long absence? By dying in a catastrophic blue screen of death and subsequently kaput hard drive. We’re talking cooked. Fried. Smoked. We’re talking so deader than dead that it caused two IT guys to literally gasp.

Did I also mention, the death of my work computer means I have to use a crappy loaner laptop until IT can replace my hard drive? Do you know how hard it is to work on a loaner? Hard.

But I can’t really complain too much because I did just get back from vacation and I did happen to have an awesome one at that. Best part of the week… my 6th annual New England Patriots training camp.

We were among the first to arrive at Gillette on Thursday morning. I was slightly impressed with how quickly we were able to get there. But then the rain started. And it rained, but fortunately, practice wasn’t moved indoors. And, again, I can’t really complain because sitting in light rain/drizzle is better than being cooked alive in the sun.

As always, the highlight of the day was seeing how many Patriots would sign autographs. I think I should admit, I don’t really care for the autographs that much and opt instead for the super-duper close-up photographs. Seriously though, half the time, the players are moving so quickly, the autographs don’t even remotely look like anything other than some squiggly lines. For example, this year, we were fortunate enough to get Randy Moss to sign our training camp roster and, honest to God, it looks like it says ~~\\\ 57.

But I was able to capture photographic evidence of Randy signing our stuff (see above), despite the complete DICKHEAD behind me that UNSUCCESSFULLY tried to shove me out of the way. Two more steps and I would have kicked him in the groin.

Oh, and can I just mention that Randy Moss is crazy jacked for a tall skinny guy? We’re talking GUN SHOW… as also captured by my stunning photographic abilities (see right).

And to further showcase those abilities, I made a handy-dandy photo gallery showcasing the entire morning for your viewing pleasure (because I’m cool like that). Ah, memories.

Anyway, it’s back to work tomorrow with my horrendous loaner computer and by mid-August, I’ll be back on vacation again (I know, right!) for a week at Hampton Beach.

Another month gone by… D’oh!

Did you know I turned 31 last month? I had this total epiphany the other day at work when a co-worker said she couldn’t believe I was in my “thirties”. Woah… when you put it that way… it sounds SO OLD. Painfully. At least, when you are old like me (ha), you learn to not care about as much about things you can’t change like, namely, your age.

Did you also know that New England Patriots Training Camp begins this week!? I will be taking my first ever PAID VACATION this week (technically, Tuesday-Friday) in order to attend the official training camp opening day. I’m so excited, I feel like a little kid preparing to go to Disney World for the first time.

But now it’s time for TV. True Blood and the return of the AMAZING Mad Men. I’m dripping with excitement.

One year

Did you know today was my one-year anniversary at my job? Can you believe it?! One full year. It’s like the anniversary of my rebirth… finally breaking free from the shackles of a MISERABLE life of demeaning comments, horrendous Wednesdays and meager paychecks.

I am free, folks. And yet, 12 months removed, I’m still bitter and angry about my previous employment situation. A recent run-in with Mean Boss himself a few weeks back didn’t help anything but to reopen old wounds. Worse still, now seeing an environment in which I not only feel appreciated but supported as well, makes me downright angry.

Will I ever let it go, like everyone constantly tells me to? Probably. It’ll probably drop onto the backburner of Angela’s brain once some lingering issues such as back taxes owed and old parking tickets from long nights at work are cleared up. But I don’t know how long it will be until I get over the emotional abuse I endured. As the anniversary of my miscarriage approaches, I’m forever reminded of how cruelly they handled the whole thing. As I accumulate more and more days of vacation time, I remember how I had to PLEAD to get a day off of work for jury duty (!) or how my boss put a “help wanted” ad up to replace me because I had to miss ONE day to have my wisdom teeth removed. Grrrrrrrrrr…. nope, I’m not even close to over it. And isn’t it fitting that I find myself preparing for a Celtics NBA Finals just like I did two years ago when Mean Boss fired me, called me an idiot (among many other things) and demanded I respect his authority just short of jumping up and down and stomping his feet like a child.

On second thought – pardon my French – Fuck those fucking fuckers and their fucking news-fucking-paper. And thank you once again to my awesome boss for believing in me enough to give me a chance. One year down… here’s to many more productive years!!!!

Oh, and Celtics… beat those fucking Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These frickin prime time Celtics’ playoff games are KILLING me. Seriously, I was only able to muster four hours of sleep last night. FOUR! I’m way too old for that kind of night.

At least it was worth it. Go, Celtics!

I apologize for not being able to remember where I originally saw this list. I do that sometimes – find something around the interweb, paste it into a new post, and leave it for some time. Bad, Angela!

Nevertheless, it still seems interesting enough to keep me entertained for 30 days. Well, except for maybe Day 15. What the hell is a “fanfic”. Like Fan Fiction? As in, one of the lamest things I can think of? I guess I could make up some NFL-related fan fiction or something.

So, if this is Day One, then that means I should be writing about my favorite song. Most people would probably be able to easily spit out their favorite song but I guess I don’t really have one. I have songs that I love for a short period of time, “Flavors of the Month,” if you will. Ultimately, my like for a song leads to its demise when I end up listening to the song so much, I grow so sick of it as to hate it. It’s all entirely my fault and I don’t blame the song.

There have been a few songs that have seemingly bucked that trend; songs that I can listen to repeatedly yet don’t get sick of.
Mariah Carey – “We Belong Together”

Don’t ask me why I’ve been able to listen to this song on constant repeat for five years. There’s nothing special to it. If anything, I think since songs can be so sentimental, this one has oodles of sentiment for me. Coming out right around my “rebirth” (God, is that corny). The summer of 2005 was a boatload of fun for me so this song always takes me back. I’ll just leave it to your imaginations. I guess I should also note that I love the remixed version, too.

The Black Eyed Peas – “Don’t Phunk with My Heart”

OK, I admit it. I love this song. It sort of goes along with the 2005 theme. I’m telling you, that was a very good summer for me, very important. (Aren’t you just oozing with wonder of what actually happened that summer?)

Then there’s The Sheila Divine – “Hum”

The Sheila Divine’s “Hum” is the Grand Poohbah of songs I love. I’ve loved this song for more than a fucking decade! And the band, although I think they’ve broken up, reunited, and broken up a bajillion times since releasing this song. After loving them forever, I finally saw them live right before their initial split on New Years Eve of ’02 (or was it ’01?) and I nearly peed myself when they played this song (booze may or may not have played a factor in the extent of which I had to pee). Maybe my pledge of undying love for this song will inspire them to get back together.

There are a few others that I can’t think of right now (which only shows how little importance they have to me) so this will have to do for now. But heck, I think this was a great way to start off my 30 days! Let’s see if I can keep up with it (probably not).

Should he stay or should he go

I find it incredibly annoying that some of the same folks now in a tizzy over the belief that Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady might be a free agent at the end of the 2010 season are the same folks that were relentlessly lobbying for the team to trade Brady and stick with Matt Cassel at the end of the 2008 season. Make up your minds, fools!

Situations like this, for example, the way Red Sox slugger David Ortiz has been treated recently, are a strong indication of how ridiculous many Boston fans can be. Don’t even get me started on the treatment of Manny Ramirez.

Sometimes, being a Patriots fan feels like drowning in a sea of stupidity. That’s why I have to hand it to Steelers and Raiders fans sometimes. They might be cretins (I kid, I kid), but at least they know their football. And they’re FIERCELY loyal in ways an average Boston fan could never even hope to attain.

Seriously, I think I just want to move.

Let’s Go Celtics clap clap clap clap clap

I’m going to tell it to you straight. I hate the L.A. Lakers. Honestly, I don’t even like basketball that much. I mean, I like it enough to watch games and no matter what, I always want the Celtics to win. I grew up in the Larry Bird era, ya know? But for some reason, I hate the Lakers on a level usually reserved for the New ~~Jersey~~ York Jets. I get pangs of anger much like that when I see the New York Yankees. For whatever reason, the Lakers and their celebrity fans make me want to barf. And punch things.

I don’t know who’s going to win this series. All I know is, Boston better win. Go, Celtics!
