I’m bursting with excitement

When I think about all the places my life has gone in the last ten years, there’s one constant. And that would be Tom Brady and the New England Patriots making my Sundays happy (for the most part).

I’m not going to lie, a decade ago, I started this website primarily as a medium to boast about the New England Patriots winning Super Bowl 36. That was it. Little did I know at the time that Tom Brady and the team would go on a bender, winning two more Super Bowls, racking up an undefeated regular season, and become one of the most successful – and detested (because that’s what winning a lot does to a franchise) teams in the entire NFL. The Patriots have become what the San Francisco 49ers were in the 80s. What the Steelers and Cowboys were in the 70s. This has been their decade and, as a fan, I’ve been happier than a pig in shit.

So you can see how I feel a bit sentimental that the Patriots are returning to the Super Bowl on the tenth anniversary of their first championship ever. I still consider that cold night in February 2002 to be one of the best of my life. Unmatched, even in the ten years and three Super Bowl berths since.

I don’t know what the outcome of next Sunday’s super rematch versus the New York Giants will be. I think the Patriots can win, but then again, I’m hopelessly optimistic. I think they can win the Super Bowl every year. What I can say is I am bursting open with thankfulness to the team, Tom Brady, Robert Kraft, and Bill Belichick. For just a few months each year, I forget about life’s bullshit. I’m able to put life’s problems on the back burner and enjoy my favorite thing in the whole world: football. And I’m able to watch a competitive team.

So, we’re entering the countdown to Super Bowl 46. Pray for me that my head doesn’t explode before kick off.

Bad Mood

What a coincidence because whenever the Patriots lose, I’m in a bad mood all week, too!

Today at work, I was chatting with one of our sabbatical professors who was telling me amazing stories about Ryan Fitzpatrick and how big Willie McGinest is in person, and then he casually, matter-of-factly dropped that he has watched a few games with Robert Kraft in the owner’s box. Wow! I’m dropping degrees of separation with my most beloved people on the planet!

To know me is to know my undying love affairs with all things New England Patriots. Another thing to know is that when you mess with one of my 53 boys, you’re going down. My colleague discovered this when he thought it would be funny to draw a mustache and beard on one of the Tom Brady photos that adorns my desk. I was also benefited by the fact that said colleague was away for the week giving me ample time to prepare.

I hate this site. I hate the name – which I came up with as a 21-year-old moron. If only I had known back then how lucrative it would have been if I had registered a boatload of domains.

Anyway, I hate this site. I don’t want to write on it anymore. I think it’s lamer than lame.

BUT…

Because I’ve had it for nearly ten years, and that’s almost an eon in internet years, I’ve decided to slightly reformat it.

Gone is anything not sports-related. (It’s not gone, gone. Just moved to somewhere else)

No more meaningless ramblings. Instead, expect ENDLESS NFL lockout rants. Among other things.

Thursday Night Football = LOVE

I LOVE nights with Thursday Night Football. And this week, more than usual, it’s important I watch because for the first time in our five+ years of dating, I can actually go to my boyfriend’s annual family Christmas Party (also known as the only event they get together for all year) thanks to the Patriots playing on Monday night. Finally, after all the years of fighting, my boyfriend guilt-tripping me to oblivion, all in the name of my endless devotion to the Patriots, I can go to his family party and I won’t have to worry about the scorn I’ll receive when he gets home.

I’m still slightly bummed that I’ll be missing the rest of the games but I’ll survive. Relationships, after all, are about compromise and making sacrifices. I guess I can sacrifice one Sunday afternoon. I hope the boyfriend appreciates this!

Brady Face

I suck, I know. But I’m trying, at least.

I’m listening to some NFL Films music on Grooveshark as I type this. And this music makes me want to run around my living room screaming (in a good way). Maybe, I should load all this shit onto my MP3 player and maybe I’ll get pumped up enough to exercise or something. Maybe I should channel all this overexcited football-induced energy into something healthy. Did I ever tell you all about the time after the ’04 AFC Championship when I was so pumped up, I went outside without a jacket and shoveled four feet of snow off my car? Yeah… that’s the kind of pump-me-up shit I need. I figure, if the Patriots beat the Jets on December 6th, that should provide enough energy to keep me pumped until the playoffs.

God, I love football so much, it hurts.

Another Sunday, another week the Jets barely squeeze out a victory. Watching my team’s archrival barely eek out a win each week is frustrating. And make no mistake, the NFL and the broadcasting networks might want you to think the Colts are the Patriots’ biggest rival but they are sadly mistaken (as usual).

Now, we’re at the point in the season where I’ve gotten to watch the Patriots get two of the three MUST WINS. #1 the Steelers, and #2 the Colts. And I shouldn’t have to tell you which is #3.

But speaking of the Steelers, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Richard Seymour for doing what I (and I’m sure many other women) wish I could do myself… slapping Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger :

Thank you, Richard! Now, I think I should start a collection to help Seymour pay his fine. I’d definitely donate.
