Arlo Davy Guthrie or just Arlo Guthrie is a popular folk and blues singer from New York. He is a singer and songwriter who can also play the guitar, harmonica and piano. How cool is that? Arlo Guthrie was born on the 10th of July in 1947. His father, Woody Guthrie, was also a popular folk singer and composer.

Arlo Guthrie was able to release several albums. One of the most popular amongst them is the album ‘Alice’s Restaurant’ which was released in 1967. Included in this album was his popular song/musical monologue ‘Alice’s Restaurant Massacree’ (mass-a-cree). This song was actually based on a real event that happened in his life. The song was 18 minutes and 34 seconds long which was too long to be played on the radio, but still, it was a big hit. It received 4 stars rating from critics. This song of his was actually made into a movie in 1969 which was directed by Arthur Penn. He starred the movie, too, along with Pat Quinn (Alice Brock) and James Broderick (Ray Brock). This movie won the third place in the 1970 Laurel Awards for ‘Golden Laurel for Comedy’.

In 1968, he was able to release his second album titled ‘Arlo’. Following that was the album ‘Running Down the Road’ released in 1969 – which only received 2.5 stars from critics. Come 1970, he was able to release another one titled ‘Washington County’ which gained 3.5 stars from Allmusic and 5 stars from Amazon. 2 years after ‘Washington County’ was the release of his album titled ‘Hobo’s Lullaby’.

Arlo Guthrie’s other albums were the following: ‘Last of the Brooklyn Cowboys’ in 1973, ‘Arlo Guthrie’ in 1974, ‘Amigo’ in 1976, ‘The Best of Arlo Guthrie’ – a compilation album released in 1977, ‘One Night’ in 1978, ‘Outlasting the Blues’ in 1979, ‘Power of Love’ in 1981, ‘Precious Friend’ in 1982, ‘Someday’ in 1986, ‘All Over the World’ in 1991, ‘Son of the Wind’ and ‘2 Songs’ in 1992, ‘More Together Again’ in 1994, ‘Alice’s Restaurant (The Massacree Revisited)’ and ‘Mystic Journey’ in 1996, ‘This Land Is Your Land: An All American Children’s Folk Classic’ in 1997, ‘BanjoMan – a tribute to Derroll Adams’ in 2002, ‘In Times Like These’ in 2007, ‘32¢ Postage Due’ in 2008, and ‘Tales of ‘69’ in 2009.

Arlo Guthrie is definitely one of the talented and, certainly, the most accomplished folk musicians in the industry. We are so lucky that he will be touring here in Boston.

John Mellencamp is a popular musician who plays under the rock, heartland rock, roots rock, and folk music. He is a singer-songwriter who can play guitar and harmonica very well.

In 1974, which was the early stage of his career, he released his first album under a different stage name – Johnny Cougar. The change of the name was the album producer’s idea but John Mellencamp wasn’t exactly all right with it. The album was titled ‘Chestnut Street Incident’ and, sadly, it wasn’t that big of a success. He then changed producers (Riva Records) in the late 70s and released a few albums under John Cougar. In 1982, he released an album ‘American Fool’ which received quite a lot of success. After that, he added his real last name and made it as John Cougar Mellencamp. He continued to gain success with his albums.[ad#300×250 L-side]

In 1991, he released another album titled ‘Whenever We Wanted’ under his real name – John Mellencamp. The word ‘cougar’ was definitely forgotten and he received a lot more success recording albums. After that 1991 album, he was able to release several more albums including ‘Human Wheels’ in 1993, ‘Dance Naked’ in 1994, ‘Mr. Happy Go Lucky’ in 1996, ‘John Mellencamp’ in 1998, ‘Rough Harvest’ in 1999, ‘Cuttin Heads’ in 2001, ‘Trouble No More’ in 2003, ‘Freedom’s Road’ in 2007, ‘Life, Death, Love and Freedom’ in 2008, and ‘No Better Than This’ in 2010. He was also able to release one live album and four compilations.

John Mellencamp was able to win a Grammy Award in 1982 for Best Male Rock Performer for ‘Hurts So Good’ – a single from his ‘American Fool’ album. Other honors and awards that was given to him were the following: ‘Classic Songwriter Award’ in 2008 at Q Awards, ‘Billboard Century Award’ in 2001, ‘Nordoff-Robbins Silver Clef Special Music Industry Humanitarian Award’ in 1991 and ‘ASCAP Foundation Champion Award’ in 2007 and this is just to name a few.

You may have known Stephen Stills from the groups ‘Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’ and ‘Buffalo Springfield’. He also has association with other famous bands while pursuing his solo career. Now, what did I tell you? Very, very talented man, indeed.

Stephen Stills gained interest in music (blues and folk music) at an early age. His Latin music influence was gained during his teen years. Stephen Stills grew up to be a well-known singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer and a political activist. He can also play the bass, piano, organ, percussion, viola and drums. [ad#300×250 L-side]

He started pursuing his music career further in the 60s. As mentioned above, he was in association with several other bands and this include ‘The Continentals’, ‘Au Go Go Singers’, and ‘The Company’ (created by him and former members of Au Go Go Singers). He was also able to create a band named ‘Manassas’ in 1971 but the band separated in 1973.

Stephen Stills’ music is categorized under rock, folk rock, blues rock, and Latin. He was able to release over 12 albums in his solo music career. His first album was self titled and it received a 4.5 (5 being the highest) stars from professional critics. This album actually owned the number three position on the Billboard Top Pop Albums in 1970. Stephen’s other albums were ‘Stephen Stills 2’ in 1971, ‘Stills’ and ‘Stephen Stills Live’ in 1975, ‘Illegal Stills’ in 1976, ‘Still Stills: The Best of Stephen Stills’ on December 1976, ‘Thoroughfare Gap’ in 1978, ‘Right By You’ in 1984, ‘Stills Alone’ in 1991, ‘Turnin Back The Pages’ in 2003, ‘Man Alive!’ in 2007, and ‘Just Roll Tape’ in 2009.

The Dan Band is famous for its cover versions of songs that were initially performed by a female singer/performer – of course, with comical musings added. The band’s music is categorized to play under comedy rock and indie rock.

The Dan Band was founded and being led by Dan Finnerty, a stage and film actor, and comedian. The other members of the band are the following: Gene Reed, John Kozeluh, Marc Strommer, David Arana, Dave Johnstone, Einar Pedersen, Ivan Delaforce, and Byron Thames.

Dan Finnerty has made several appearances in different films. Some of his notable performances are from the movies ‘The Terminal’, ‘Old School’ where he performed the songs ‘Lady’ and ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’, ‘Starsky & Hutch, and ‘The Hangover’ where he performed ‘Candy Shop’.

The Dan Band’s first album titled ‘The Dan Band Live’ was released in 2005. Their renditions were a big hit and some of the songs that really gained huge attention were ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’, ‘Milkshake’, ‘Lady’, and ‘Mickey’. They were able to release an original work, a Christmas LP, titled ‘Ho: A Dan Band Xmas’. It was really a big hit. The tracks included are ‘Ho, Ho, Ho’, ‘I Wanna Rock U Hard This Christmas’, ‘Merry Christmakwanzakah’ and ‘Please Don’t Bomb Nobody This Holiday’ just to name a few.

They actually made a video for the song ‘Please Don’t Bomb Nobody This Holiday’ which included several cameos from big celebrities. This includes, mentioning a few, Christina Applegate, Sheryl Crow, Kyle Gass, Nicole Scherzinger, Meg Ryan, Macy Gray and Christopher Guest.

The Dan Band also made several appearances on different TV shows. They were seen many times on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CD USA, The Late Late Show and Last Call with Carson Daly.

Are you looking for a fun, ‘rockin’ and ‘jazzin’ night? Then look no further, your all-time favorite rock band, Steely Dan, is on tour and Boston is on their list!

Steely Dan is a band who plays music that falls under the categories of rock, jazz and jazz rock. The band was created by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker – they are also the core members of the band. When they are on tour, they are usually accompanied by a band which includes some of the fine musicians out there. It includes Keith Carlock (drums), Jim Beard (Keyboards), Carolyn Leonhart-Escoffery, Catherine Russell, Cindy Mizelle (Backing vocals), John Herington (guitar), Michael Leonhart (Trumpet), Jim Pugh (trombone), Roger Rosenberg (Baritone Saxophone), Walt Weiskopf (Saxophone), and Freddie Washington (Bass). As you may notice, they have the whole enchilada when it comes to instruments. Gotta love the band that has a complete set of instruments.

Steely Dan was created in 1969 and enjoyed their rise to fame in the early 70s. They were able to release their first album titled ‘Can’t Buy a Thrill’ in 1972. The album was a big hit as it went platinum. One of the notable singles in this album is titled ‘Do It Again’ which peaked number 6 on charts. The rest of their albums are as follows: ‘Countdown to Ecstasy’ released in 1973, ‘Pretzel Logic’ in 1974 – one of the singles (Rikki Don’t Lose That Number) landed the number 4 position on charts, ‘Katy Lied’ in 1975, ‘The Royal Scam’ in 1976, ‘Aja’ in 1977 – this album peaked number 3 on Pop albums chart, ‘Gaucho’ in 1980, ‘Two Against Nature’ in 2000 – this album landed the number 2 position on the Top Internet Albums chart and number 6 on the Billboard 200, and ‘Everything Must Go’ in 2003.

The album ‘Two Against Nature’ actually garnered a lot of awards. It received the 2001 Grammy Awards for Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Recording, Non-Classical.

Barnum & Bailey Circus, the finest circus you will ever see

The Barnum & Bailey is an American circus which performs as the greatest circus on earth. The company owning the circus is Ringling Bros. It was formed when P.T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey decided to troop with the Ringling Brothers Circus. The transaction took effect in 1907. However, the company ran their circuses separately for some time before deciding to merge both and create a mega level circus in 1919.

The Barnum and Bailey circus kept growing with the passing years and moved on to performing in venues such as sports stadiums instead of the traditional tents in 1957. Over the next few decades the ownership of this circus changed hands a couple of times but the spirit and interest only continued to heighten despite these changes of management. The circus include two circus train shows named as the red tour and the blue tour. There is also the gold tour which is truck based. A train has 60 cars including 40 for passengers and 20 for freight. It is an unique experience that should not be missed if you get the chance to witness one of the most amazing circus shows in the world.

A little trivia for you: Did you know that Donald Fagen was the one who asked Walter Becker if he wants to be in a band? Donald first heard Walter practicing his music in a café (The Red Balloon). They have come to know that they love the same music styles and later started creating songs together.

Steely Dan was able to release nine studio albums in total.
