Little bout of insomnia this week so I messed around and made some Gifs.

A little context for the second one if you don't get it.

(Also loosely inspired by the goons in "The Triplets of Belleville", a cool animated film about bicycle racing (kind of) that's worth your time.)

Here's what I've done so far (stay tuned for more as the playoffs progress):

Click to embiggen.
Both of these are available as prints, and I got a t-shirt design based on the Monta one.

Reminder too, check out my Bx3 Tumblr page if you want to see sketches, work in progress, news, etc...
First one is about how hard Kobe was playing (pre ankle injury) just to keep the Lakers in playoff contention. Second one is based on this must-read article about the Raptors' use of advanced video technology.

I actually kind of like the sleeved uniforms. Why not. Not so sold on the pinstripe shorts though.

If you haven't noticed, lately the comics aren't coming at a high frequency exactly. Regretfully I think it may be like this for a while- just got a lot going on nowadays family-wise and work-wise which keeps me away from the drafting table.

If you'd like to see more, I suggest checking out my tumblr which is linked below- I post some sketches and in process stuff and other things not directly related to this comic that I am working on there.

Thanks- J.
Some animated Gifs I made for articles over at the Classical.
I've had a ton of work and family stuff going on lately, so I haven't been able to find the time to do new comics much. Sorry about that. Thanks for sticking with me.
Schadenfreude, if you're unaware, is not some Euro-league PG prospect as Chub seems to believe, but rather a word borrowed from German that means 'the pleasure that non-Lakers fans derive from watching Lakers' fans watch the Lakers struggle.' Or something like that. In case you haven't noticed, the schadenfreude has been very strong lately.
Reasons #1-#46 have something to do with fans switching between "we" and "they" when they talk about "their" team depending on how good the team is doing that season.
This comic is an animated GIF. If it's not doing anything and you're thinking "I don't get it" then try the static version here:
CAPTION CONTEST! Got a alternate caption idea for what D'Antoni's saying? Post your ideas in the comments below and I might use it! (On the rare chance that it's better than the one I came up with- I kid).
I'm going to repost a comic with the best one - with credit (and a prize- original sketch, etc.) to the submitter. (Unless of course, again, I stick to my own hilarious original line.)

Bonus! I updated this classic Bx3 comic too to reflect the Harden trade:

It's hard to not read anything into pre-season play, everybody's so ready for meaningful basketball.
I'll say, like the Summer league, you can gleam some useful information about individual player's games, but the outcomes of the games are generally meaningless. Unless you're winless of course. No team that's winless in the pre-season has ever made the playoffs! Sorry Lakers, maybe next year!

Myself, I like the creativity that the offseason breeds in the basketball blogging community, but like Chub, at some point you're just ready to stop just reading about it and to actually watch some real basketball. I'm pretty much there now. (But I'll keep reading of course).
Anyways, feel free to speculate in the comments, or steal the idea and write a blog post about it.

As I mentioned somewhere, I'm using the off-season to experiment around with the art a bit- so this kind of came out of that. I'm doing a metric ton of drawing, but it's just not making it onto the page.
Trying to learn some new moves for when the season does come.

I drew this as a prop for a comic- but haven't had time to make the comic yet. I thought I'd post it anyways. Not super happy with how it turned out. I got a feeling that these finals are going to be so epic- so that's hard to match. I should have drawn them playing on top of an exploding volcano or something. Note for next year.

J. Sorry gang- I don't have a new comic this week.

I had the chance to once again do some original illustrations for The Classical.
As you may or may not be aware, I occasionally attempt to be funny here on Bouncex3.
Well the article I had the pleasure of illustrating was written by a PROFESSIONAL humorist.
So if you like what I do here, (I hope that's why you're here) then I bet your going to like this
article by one Mr. Tom Scharpling about the dystopian sci-fi future of pro basketball.

The Link:
http://www.theclassical.org/articles/sports-from-the-future-part-one
A preview of what you're in for:

...and that's only the half of it! There's more illustrations at the link.

Also, as once again may or may not be aware of, I recently started doing
a weekly sports comic over at Buzzfeed sports.

I know most Bx3 fans are basketball fans- well this week the comic
just happens to be about basketball. Go check it out:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/joapplegate/the-nba-refs-have-been-assholes-in-the-playoffs-6als
I appreciate your support over there as well!

Here's a little sneak preview of the comic to whet your whistle:

Thanks fam! I'll be back with an original Bx3 comic next week! Book it.
I'm a week behind the current playoff events. Couldn't pass this one up. I tend to think people don't win or lose because they're "soft". It comes down to whether the other team is "better at basketball". I think that might mean that I'm soft.

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Bouncebouncebounce/~3/Gl-RPA0YhwQ/hard-talks-with-larry-b-bx3-61.html" title="Hard Talks with Larry B.
Previous Comic (Lebron gets Crafty) - Next Comic (The Team/Fan Relationship)
This is the second "Full Locker Room Access"comic. I did one last year during the playoffs for the Heat. You can see that here.

Okay I am really "trolling" the Clippers with this one. It's hard because I've got to make jokes every week but I really don't like making fun of people. Honestly. Vinnie Del Negro takes a ton of flak as a coach, but I still think he has potential. Look at Doc Rivers. He's widely considered one of the best coaches in basketball now, but he wasn't always thought of that way. Coaches need reps too. VDN's getting his reps. We'll see what he does with them.

I may be one of the few (outside LA) that think the Clippers can challenge the Spurs- maybe in spite of VDN but maybe not- despite of the impression that I'm giving off with this comic. The joke's really about the incredible chasm in the public opinion of the Spurs and the Clippers coaching and management. But nuance doesn't make for a very good gag now does it. Anyways...

Last week over at Grantland Bill Simmons published an article about championships with asterisks. I tend to think you can do this deconstruction almost any season- so I'm not putting an asterisk on this season no matter which teams wins. (Unless something extreme happens like the other teams suddenly choose to forfeit the playoffs to start an 'A cappella' singing group or somehow get stuck in a well or something.)

All that being said, things are breaking pretty well for Lebron and the Heat right now. Out of laziness I didn't draw all the voodoo dolls I could have- Chandler starting the series with the flu, Baron with that gruesome kneecap dislocation (thank you for all the slo-mo replays Mr. Producer!). Etc.

The Heat's next round matchup, the Pacers, are healthy at least, and I recently bought a Pacers' hat because I love underdogs and liked the design so watch out because as we all know my choice in headwear has great power on the outcome of pro basketball games. I think the Pacers are a good team with a lot of ways to matchup that when playing to their full potential can compete with any team (remember the competitiveness last year in the playoffs versus the Bulls?). So for Lebron and the Heat's sake I hope they're not making the mistake of overlooking them in their "preparations". I'm trying to talk myself into this.

As always check out the t-shirt shop or art-print store if you're interested in some Bx3 approved schwag.
I'm more of a Lev (the guy in the gray hoodie if you're new to the comic) type hardcore basketball fan- the long serpentine trying to be objective analysis- than the Chub (yellow jersey) rooting hard and having faith in one team kind of fan. How about you? I guess it's possible to be somewhere in between those two extremes... and there's the people out there that just seem to root for individual players too, forgot about them when I was drafting up the comic.

I also have no idea who will win this year, despite my ability to talk at length about it. It's wide open in my eyes. That makes it all the more exciting, doesn't it?

A side note- I feel really bad for D. Rose and Shump. Hate to see guys go down like that, but it just shows how hard it is to predict what will happen because anything can happen. I tore my own ACL once playing basketball, and the resulting forced period of inactivity is when I started getting really into art. You just never know the path you're going to end up on, no matter how much analysis you do of the past.

This is actually the second time I've drawn some NBA players as children. Did it a while back for a guest spot for Hoopism.com. Go check it out if you missed it the first time.

This comic is available as a high quality art print in the print shop- <strike>Free shipping worldwide on all orders through Sunday the 29th!</strike>

J.
Baron Davis has an interesting take on the 3-goggles. The "three-puffs" I guess we should call it. I wish I could have fit this into the comic.
Previous Comic (So that's what that means!?!) - Next Comic (NBA sign-language)

Any similarities to real life basketball talking heads are intentional, but like in an "intentional foul" kind of way, if that makes sense.

A word directly from me (because I have no sponsors)-

In addition to the link below for Bouncex3 t-shirts,
I've also set up a way to purchase original comic and illustration Bouncex3 prints.
There's a handful of options available, and you can choose from different sizes based on how big the wall-space is in your conversion van.

-If there is a comic that you'd like a print of that is not currently available please contact me and I will add it to the store so that you can order it.

-Because the Prints come direct from the printer I am not able to sign them. If you'd like a signed print please email me and it can be arranged. Basically it will be the cost of the print in the store with the S+H doubled because I'll ship it to myself first, and then ship it to you. (Maybe with an original sketch thrown in???)

-If you are living the minimilast lifestyle and don't need more "stuff" in your life you can also make a direct monetary contribution from the "donate" link below as well. If you'd like I'll send you a Hi-Res digital print of your choice for any amount donated.

As you can see I am running the site without ads (for formatting and other reasons). Any of the options detailed above (and linked below) are a way to support the site if you are a frequent visitor that enjoys Bouncex3. I am hoping to continue developing and improving the comic- and all contributions will go a long way in helping me achieve that goal. No pressure of course- your continued readership is already great support in itself!
