Now we wait...

We wait now for more snow and cold air. I was able to get out and lay down the tracks for the classic ski trails. They are extremely thin all around and no coverage in spots along the road on the way out of the park on the East side.

One thing I need to strongly suggest is please do NOT walk on the track portion of trails. I need the base to set up as good as possible so the trails can be enjoyed throughout the winter.

The plan is to have a short skate-ski route that follows the road in the park. I hope to expand this next year on some of the other trails, but that depends on how much wider I can go in crucial spots.

A new map is going to be posted on this site hopefully by the weeks end. More posts will also be put in. Now I get that these are not the most ellaborate things in the world, but it will work until we get funds for something much more substantial. I will look to distribute maps to City Hall, Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce, Tomahawk Main Street, and more to come.

If anybody wishes to donate towards the grooming and future improvements i.e. lights for a night loop, real sign posts and arrows, please send and make checks payable to:

Bradley Park Trail Crew
W6300 Camp Rice Point Rd
Tomahawk, WI 54487

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year with your friends and family.

Hopefully, we'll be able to enjoy the trails in the park soon.

Justin
BPTC

2012 Hogsback CX Highlights

Okay so after Tuesday's Bradley Park visioning meeting, Silent Sport Trails are to be considered a focus of the park. Step one is complete. Now what takes place is a feasability study to see what can be done in the form of funding. We all know as the avid mtb racers we are that the common trail can be done with basic but necessary tools and the most costly thing of it all is time. I will be getting out there with the camera, gps, Salsa Mamasita, and my ERGON pack full of goodies like tape to flag my routes. I would like to start in April, but that's not in my hand and I must be patient.

An of what will be included in the park is around 5.5 miles of mostly singletrack for the difficult level of ability. I would like to have roughly the same distance for the easy and intermediate loops. I will be including some cyclocross run up areas that believe it or not are already built into the hills down the hogsback with some other fun stuff. The users that would be able to utilize the park in it's future focus as a silent sport area are: Hiking, Mountain Biking, Trail Running, Disc Golfing, Surfing, XC Skiing, and Snowshoeing. I would also like to somehow work up something where it could be a drop for kayaking and canoeing.

Trail Layout 10/13/09

<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" It's about 5 miles in total length with only a little bit that needs to be added to complete the loop. Red is where I walked it last weekend and the white is how I want it to go. There is and will be a little climbing in this compact little area but it wont disappoint once completed.

3 hours and 6.5 miles later

Trail Head Creek

On a bit of a scouting mission with my garmin gps unit, I walked the grounds and every trail to its end. I found some trails that are just in need of clearing, some need to be benched for errosion control and some have to be created to connect and complete a loop. I've already got some names for some of the features. Say hello to:

Heartbreak Hill or...

Double Jeopardy as either way you choose your going up and it's going to hurt.
