After our jaunt in the Copper Belt and Chobe National Park, we’re back in the States. Boy did we have a knockout time. I took somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 photos. You can see a selection of those on my flickr.

I have picked up my camera again, after neglecting it for so long, and have really gotten back into shooting and processing. I will be, in the coming week, off to Zambia for 10 days of travel so will certainly have more to show.

Sometimes you win the conceptual battles, sometimes you lose them. And then again, usually, you have to meet somewhere in the middle. This is a instance of a big, fat win (color way aside).

No where could this pull-me-push-me-feeling be as evident as a designer within a scientific research institute. At its core, it’s a true epic battle of the creative imaginative versus the analytical rationale.

Through the course of three months or so, I have been working on a modular type face that I have used as potential typographic solutions for a few type mark ideas.

None of the directions came to fruition but I decided to solider on and complete the full alphabet along with a numerical set (capitals A–Z, numerals 0–9).

While far from perfection, it was a good study to better understand how type works as a whole along with stumbling over the problems it can present along the way.

I’m making the resulting study, Muli Shani (“Hello” or “How Are You” in Bemba) available for your usage, no strings attached. So use it however you want (you’ll have to hand-set the type), dress it up like a Fancy Feast cat, or keep it low key.

After finishing his two year commitment teaching kindergarten in the inner-city of Washington, DC with Teach for America, David Bram is parlaying his experience abroad. Currently, Dave is training educators in primary education and also assist in petitioning the Zambian government for reform in education policy.

We have been hard at work, collaborating with our friend and freelance journalist Brandon Lowe to help update his website.

You might have heard through the grapevine that we were proudly responsible for his first build-out. Now we have continued to help him develop his portfolio site by expanding his archives, creating a Hall of Fame, and developing a blog that integrates into the rest of his site.

Did we mention he’s a mighty fine writer (and swell guy)?

In case you didn’t know, notice, or care, I’m on flickr where I occasionally update our work and personal photos.

There is a somewhat popular pool called Make Something Cool Everyday which I have been succeeding attempting failing to comply with, at least on the weekdays.

I have found it to be a pretty useful and practical exercise in regards of digital sketching and playing with some general and loose concepts.

Check my account every now and then to see the bits and bobs that the left side of my brain manages to churn out.
