Brandia has been in PromaxBDA European 2012, the european tv awards, in Barcelona. This was an incredible experience for us, mainly because we could meet colleages of international channels and share our philosophy with professionals of other parts of the world: Russia, Poland, Denmark, Holland, Austria, Ukraine…

For this event Brandia was sponsor and put an advertising in the bag of each participants. This gift , specially designed for this event, was a little cuckoo clock that the people could bild but they needed to contact us to obtain a little lost moustache.

The cuckoo clock and the moustache are funny games to get in contact with the people, to gain visibility with good taste.

At Promax there were more than 700 people. We only could meet a few of them but they were lovely people. We would like to invite to all the assistants to visit our web www.brandia.tv and to visit our office in Tenerife. You are welcome!

Finally we would like to congratulate all the winners and the organization for the experience. Nice to meet you, See you the next year in Paris!

We are pleased to present our latest work. This time is a opening credits for a new program for Canal +, “Hands down Directors”, which talks about young filmmakers, with a child of 80. with a infancy of 80′s. The video count as it has influenced the movies they have seen. From this brief thoughts we think in three to start. From this briefing we three ideas, three possible ways of telling the story proposal.

“The icons that  constructed me”

We focus the spotlight on the icons that encourage people to become the professionals of tomorrow. We miss the person in it, for focus on those things that go unnoticed but many engage them. Toys that tell stories with which we ours, your life through the objects that were marked and your day to day now revolves around the movies. Iconic style, plain and simple (not realistic).

 THE WORK

 Finally choose “The Magic of Cinema”, where we propose a color range chosen for two purposes, first balance the animation style. The animation type UPA, is tending tothe comic style and exaggerated. The colors chosen yet tend to neutral, with dissonant color to highlight points of interest. The other objective is to identify the directors who are Spanish and therefore the range is constructed with colors derived from red and yellow flag Spanish, with a dark gray and white.

The animation style is known as proposed UPA style of the years 50s. Very used to describe applications and processes, and now with the time, very appellant explaining, love and catching. We can see on the next page several concepts of characters and situations.

At the same time we make final sketches and design the characters and objects in the video. On the one hand we have the head which revolves around the video: as a child, curious and seeing Cinexin with classics like The Goonies, a teenager who begins to translate that visual culture in home productions, and as an adult, taking advantage of all the baggage to their careers.

Now it’s time to edit. First we make frame by frame animation, characters and objects. To later complete the work in after effects. Here we add some effects, textures and lights to finish editing andvideo tner ended. Ready for Canal +.

One of our recent work has been to build the image of the social network Fizzikid. We are proud to participate fromthe start in building a social network, designed all the visual parts that serve to communicate.

Fizzikid education is a social network oriented to children aged 8 to 14 where they can communicate with their friends, chat and send messages, live experiences with Nell and Eddy, participate in social experiments and learn about scientific developments. Fizzikid again becomes a safe space for learning, which encourages the use of new technologies.

MAKING THE BRAND

For the design of the identity of Fizzikid we work under the premises that were suitable for a social network of children between 8 and 14 years, with a scientific content. Subsequently, the orientation was more open, with a chromatic different from other social networks. As a brand that is very open, not opt ​​to build it with icons, use only fonts friendly. The visual weight falls on the characters. The brand presents a setting and character are those that communicate.

 MAKING THE INTERFACE DESIGN

To design a user interface using similar assumptions to those above. We use a lively and joyful color aimed at children. The interface consists of three distinct parts:

 Left Side Panel: Where the user can view their profile and interact with their friends.

 Right side panel, where the user can have all the information.

 Central Wall: with exercises, messages and tasks for the user to interact.

 To build the navigation and make the buttons we chose to use images, icons. Do it all very visual, reducing the presence of the text to a minimum. Thus we have a browsing experience attractive and intuitive for the young user.

 MAKING THE CHARACTER DESIGN

Initially, the characters would be 3, but decided they were 2 for creative issues. The duality is a more attractive and versatile. The client wanted the characters to be boy and girl, but we opted for no sex characters defined. In addition, we thought it desirable not to be human. The first way was to design technology-looking characters or close to sci-fy as aliens, or robots.

Finally we chose to design the characters based on animals, being neutral, being less “cool” and more friendly than before. After many designs, we create two characters based on a fox and a whale, to play with their complementary personalities. One is proactive and bully and the other more thoughtful and studious.

Gradually the design of the characters was polishing, while also making the poses of the characters. Each pose, reflects an attitude and will be used in different areas of the web, showing emotions .

First, we start with a storyboard. After much consideration we decided to make a special dinner, a meeting between meals. Like a big party, with food singing, dancing, enjoying the rhythm of Mr. Sandman. Here we finish the story and began to think who could be our “stars” …  nutritious meal, healthy with  Christmas spirit, with delicious vegetables!

After making hundreds of sketches we decided to use real food, and make the animation putting eyes, mouths, little hands and legs  … bringing them personality. For this, with photos, we draw eyes and mouths in photoshop, frame by frame and then editing the animation in After Effects. At the same time, we drew the backgrounds. Our story start with a magical stage  to ending with  a “warm” (In every way) christmas kitchen.

In this point, we work the animation of the food bodies. How? We begin to try the “puppet tool” of After Effects. With it, the food becomes the best singers in the world. After that we edited the sequences according to the storyboard, and finally finish the work the last details like lighting, textures and the magic touchto give the  Christmas “flavor”.

The event in London was in the World Entrepreneur Week ) that we could be there thanks to the invaluable collaboration of Cambridge Studies and ITC.

The meeting in Barcelona was into the Broadcat, a meeting point of professional branding tv, animation, motion graphics … A perfect place to meet new industry professionals. During these days we also concrete appointments with agencies and studys of Barcelona to share views. We shared moments with the greats BBDO and Ogilvy and no less greats Morillas, Toy Life or Vértigo Graphix.

In both experiences we learned that in this globalized world, knowledge has no limits and to go to other countries becomes a unique experience and obligated to reset our minds, opened our eyes and inspired us (not copie) from what is done outhere.

Over 3000 participants from around the world in London, talented professional in Barcelona, ​​nervous minds all of them, running at 200% to make this world more pleasant with innovation and design. They have made us grow as a company and as individuals.

Los Anuncios de tu vida (Ads for your life) is one of our most loved works. It was the first performing for a national channel. It is a graphics package for RTVE (Televisión Española) documentary series, which reviews the social evolution of Spain through advertising.

To develop the concept of this graphics package, we began as usual to define the header as the centrepiece of which the remainder breaks down. After documenting and analysing the content and the format of the show, we really realized that the history of advertising and the history of the home accompany together. Showing an accurate picture of spending habits and lifestyle of this country.

So, we decided to make the header like a historical journey through the ages that the program touches -from the 50’s until today-. Starting in an advertisement of the 40’s, seen in a TV and a lounge of the 50’s, locating a retiring room of the 60-70 and finally determining a 80′s television advertising placed in a TV set by zooming out from stage to stage.

As well, we studied and adapted the characters for each period, facing that the 50′s target audience was the housewife and later in the 60’s it was a younger audience…. It is the history of advertising in reference to TV households.

References

For this type of work, which has a considerable historical perspective, searching for references to make a accurate work was very important. We considered many aspects such as like the decoration, the design of objects, costumes, the look of the ads of this time … through time of three distinct eras.

Designing characters and scenery

After the process of searching for information, we proceeded with designing the characters and scenery to build a consistent visual style to propose it to the client in the form of a storyboard. All this processes are manual. Like illustrations of the old school, with pencil and paper and by working for long time designing characters, settings, introducing objects in it, etc.

After this long road, we finally created the main animation storyboard to present it to the customer.

Now began the last and final design state. Based on the approved storyboard, we started the animation of the characters and created the corresponding backgrounds. We also did this in a traditional way, but with digital help. The animation is manually drawn frame by frame, with the help of a graphics tablet used together with Photoshop. What would all of us do without the Ctrl + Z? Parallel to this we made another series of tasks.

On the one hand, there are little things we had to do in 3D for the scenery. When this was done, we considered improve the appropriate look by drawing on top of it. So it was more ambient and this is the look we wanted.

On the other hand we designed all the labels, which made up the image of the program to include it in the animation.

Once we had our different elements and finished the animation, we used After Effects to compose everything in order and to the volitional look. An immense work in which animations are touched, the lights are retouched, the camera shots are balanced and the colours are regulated. Hours and hours of work to achieve the result of the final video you can see above.

On 30th September we opened our new office in La Laguna. The Opening Day had two faces, offline and online. In offline part we spend time, effort, technology and creativity to produce an amazing event: Cameras , broadcast live for guests, visits to the studio and a funny timelapse.

Meanwhile, the online activity was essential to the success of the event. We invited our fans around the world to follow us in Facebook and twitter and share the event.

Finally we had more than 100 guests in the studio, and a 30% traffic increase in our social profiles, getting more visits in our website.
