New Haven Area Easter Egg Hunts 2017 Featured Download - Download a PDF of a map and list of Easter Egg Hunts in the New Haven area. It’s time for the New Haven Area Easter Egg Hunts. The Easter Bunny will be hopping around too making an appearance at a number of Easter Egg Hunt festivities scheduled in the New Haven area for 2017. Children have so much fun participating in these Easter Egg Hunts filling their baskets collecting colored Easter eggs and candy. Other activities that may be included for the children, their older siblings and parents are music, entertainment, games and food. Prizes are often awarded too to the winners in each age group of the children. Do you know the history behind the meaning of the egg hunt on Easter? Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade 2015 The Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade is the largest single-day spectator event held in the State of Connecticut. Hundreds of thousands of people line the streets of New Haven to watch the parade. The tradition of the Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade was born on March 17, 1842 when a mutual aid organization formed the previous year of about 90 members of the Hibernian Provident Society marched through the streets of New Haven behind a banner made just for the occasion. The Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade since the mid 1950's has become one of the most significant Irish events in New England and is the 6th oldest parade in the nation. In 1999 it's prominence was recognized by the Library of Congress and selected as an outstanding example of American folk life. This year's parade is being held on Sunday March 15th at 1:30 pm. The parade route starts at Chapel Street at Sherman Avenue and and ending on Grove Street at Orange Street. The parade route is approximately 1 1/2 miles and about 3 hours long. Streets around the parade route close around 11:00 am with the exception of Church Street from Chapel to Grove which will be closed from 6:00 am. In order to provide a safe and enjoyable event for spectators and marcher laws related to public drinking of alcohol will be strictly enforced by the New Haven Police Department so be sure leave your coolers and alcoholic beverages at home. Pre-and-post parade events will be taking place at the following locations: Knights of St. Patrick Parade Day Open House-1533 State Street New Haven Open at 8:00 am for egg sandwiches, hot corned beef sandwiches at 11:00 am Free shuttle to and from the parade departing at 12:00 pm & 12:45 pm and returning at 3:30 pm. Things To Do in New Haven-Movie Theaters Whether you're directly in downtown New Haven or in the surrounding areas you'll find a great array of movie theaters to go to. It doesn't matter if it's winter, spring, summer or fall, the movie theater is always a popular place if you're local or just happen to be visiting the area. Nothing beats viewing the newest flicks on the mega screen while being surrounded by the delightful aroma of a fresh box of popcorn and a cold drink. A little trivia tidbit about theaters in New Haven. One of the first movie theaters was the Roger Sherman Theater built in 1926 on the property of the Rialto move theater which was destroyed by a fire years earlier in 1921. It later became the Palace Theater in 1984 until that closed in 2002. Construction is now under way to bring the 2,000 seat Palace Theater back to life. It is expected to open in April of this year with live music concerts. Most of the movie theaters in the New Haven feature stadium seating settings, digital projection and wheelchair accessibility. Other theater amenities that may also be available are listening devices, cafes and game rooms. In a hurry and don't want to wait in line for tickets?
