I have been absent from the blog for a while, busy with big projects in my personal life. However everything falls in place after a while. Im still figuring out my island style combined with fashion trends.

This little number is "the new bohemian" style. Think peasant tops and dresses and prints that remind you of a middle-eastern vacation. Like strolling on a Marrakech market and snapping shots from above of Mediterranean and Arabesque design tiled floors.

Mothers day DIY; Sustainable flowers that will last

This mothers day give mom flowers that will last. They are cute and versatile. You could stick them in a cake or hang them on a string like a garland or just in a jar.

What you will need:
-Paper in color and/or print
-Skewer sticks
-Scissors
-Glue or tape
-2 sizes circular object for measuring
-Colored duct tape or tissue paper

Cut flower shapes out of your paper. Use a smaller shape for the middle. You can play around with the width of the "petals". Cut a slit into the flowers and over-lap one "petal" over the other and stick them together.

I used metallic duct tape for the center op the flower, but you can also use tissue paper.

Stick the flowers through, add the center by just rolling the tape around it. You can even add leaves.

Et Voila! Flowers that are sustainable and will last.

Mr & Mrs.

4 months ago we surprised friends and family with our wedding. We had been planning it all in secret. It was one of the hardest secrets to keep, but one of the best things we have done. The day went exactly how we had planned.

We invited friends and family for a holiday get to gather. We had been working hard on our latest project and want to share it with our loved ones and no one had a clue....

On December 26th our guests arrived and were welcomed by out pallet "Welcome loved ones" sign. They gathered inside and were greeted by our parents and siblings. At 6pm everybody was invited to take a seat outside on the patio. Then we walked up and revealed the big surprise... We were getting married!

The decor was from recycled tin cans, with Aloe planted from the back yard. Recycled glass jars held candles in them with a hand-made tag stamped "J&F" on it.

Even our rings (that were carried in by our pet donkey, barney the ring bearer) are made from recycled old family gold.

The shoes I wore are my mothers vintage Nine West shoes that she ones wore almost 35 years ago ( I wore them once before and it happened to be the day I met J).

The "Mr. & Mrs." chairs were salvaged from a dump yard. I personally re-upholstered them and brought them back to life.

We only had locally sourced flower, that I went and hand picked myself the previous day.

Inside we had a charcuterie table with cheeses, meats, jellies, fresh and dried fruits and nuts and local honeycombs dripping fresh honey.

The dinner was a gourmet, serve yourself hotdog buffet. With kimchi cogs, chili dogs and a naked dog, to be topped with whatever condiment you wanted.

This is our families together and below are your new Mr. & Mrs Farmer

Our wedding was held at our own farm barn, where in the near future we plan to open an local, organic restaurant.

Bizar Bazar, Curaçao

Last Sunday we visited Bizaar Bazaar for the first time

(follow them on facebook to keep in the loop).

Local artists sell their art work, awesome live music and delicious vegan food on he menu.

There is something majestic about the place.

The vibe is laid-back and the view is amazing that leaves you in awe.

Artist that makes jewelry from sea glass and shells, displayed on a colorful pallet.

This astounding chair design and recycled bags are crafted by Mad-Work

Fin & Fintage with a trunk full of metallic tattoos and her hand made bags from recycled kite surf kites. (if you missed the market order her Tattoos "here")

And another great artist that I met; Omar Sling. He is a multi-artist he makes all sorts of art. Sculptures, paintings and accessories, from all sorts of recycled materials. I liked these woven fabric bracelets the best!

International Swim Fashion Week, Curaçao

Passed weekend I made it to International Swim Fashion Week which was held on on our beautiful island of Curaçao. It was a very fun event, well organized, beautiful girls and cool designs. Hopefully with events like these our tiny Island will be put on the map in the fashion industry.

Below are some of the shots I captured (with IPhone6).

The first show was Sirenes De Soleil. A French-American and Colombian fashion duo, doesn't that sounds like a fashion match made in the swimwear industry...

The second show was Island State is an Australian swim and resort wear label. Founded in 2013 by a couple who have a mutual love of travel, lazy days on the beach and photography.

Lots of color and nice beach cover-ups...

This (below) was my favorite! Colorful and a gorgeous design (look at the back!)

The third designer was Canadian and was not sure if this was swimwear or something you would wear in your boudoir. She had some funky stuff...

DIY; Candy Filled Diamond

Let me start by saying; I despise Valentine's day, on the other hand, I love crafts and candy! So for those with either a Valentine in mind or a sweet tooth and an itch for crafts, I made this candy filled diamond that would make a perfect Valentine gift.

I started by saving and printing "this" template.

Then trace on your valentine paper, fold lines and glue the spots that I marked black (for you to see).

Fill with your favorite candy, close it up...

Holiday Gift Guide; Curaçao Edition

The Holidays are about to come up, so are the parties, the get togethers and the gifts. A few cute gift ideas while supporting our local artists and small business owners on the beautiful island.

I fell in love with the limited edition "Sweet Honey Scrub" and was happy to hear that due to a great demand it is going to stay in the collection! From the Kitchen; Easy-peasy Pumpkin Hand-pies

Ok just a quickie before the holidays! It's for the busy-bees or the undomestic-divas. A cheat to make a scrumptious holiday dessert.

What you need;
- Store bought pie crust
- Can of pumpkin puree
- Pumpkin spice
- Cream of coconut
- Cool Whip
- Brown sugar

1. Roll out your pie crust and with a cookie cutter cut circles
2. Prep your pumpkin puree with the pie spice and brown sugar (taste and add till satisfied).
3. Drop a spoon-full of pumpkin filling (depending on the width of your circle)
4. cover with another circle and close with a fork. Cut an X on the top

Don't forget to pre-heat the oven.

Pop them in for +/- 15 mins or until golden

In the mean time, mix the coconut cream, but just the white solid bit not the oil. To separate this let is stand for a bit. Add pumpkin spice to your liking. When mixed well spoon it through cool whip. Warning! This stuff is deadly delicious!!

Et Voila! Add a dollop of your coconut spiced, whipped-cream and devour!

Layering in the Sun

With fall nearing to an end and winter approaching, I think back at layering fashion in the cold. Living on an island with a 30*C average, it is very unlikely to layer. However I figured a fun different way to wear items I already own, is to layer.

Now you could always throw on a khaki trench coat (like "this" or "this") and a pair of chelsea boots. For now I will stick to my sandals and imagine what I would have worn if still living in a four season country.

Reinvent your closet; How to wear something old, this season

So I have been reinventing my clothes, always finding new ways to wear things you already own. This upcoming season you will see lots of sleeveless vests. I have had this little number for years, here on the tropical island you can wear it as a top. Instead of wearing it open, layered on top, you close it, worn on a midi skirt.

And what about a bustier you have had laying in the closet since last summer. Layer is with a simple white tee or if you dare even with a graphic tee, wear it with boyfriend jeans and sneakers for a laid back look or with a midi skirt and strap heels for more dressier look.

All around Gingham

It has been a few weeks since I made an appearance on the blog. Seasons are changing, but Curaçao remains the same. I have been finding myself with a struggle to follow seasonal trends on island weather, however it is possible. A print that you will see a lot this fall and even next spring, is Gingham. Also Mod/60's style is coming this fall. When buying a piece in the seasons transitions, make sure you can get optimal use out of it. An A-line dress is simple yet versatile. It has a mod vibe going on and it is super simple to layer, wear a shirt underneath, pair it with a cropped blazer and maybe some wooly tights. Wear them with superga sneakers, Chelsea boots or clog style heels that you may wear with wooly socks when it gets colder. One dress, so many options! If only the weather allowed me to layer, wool and boots.

Travels; 24 Hours in Aruba

The nice thing of living in the A,B,C Islands is the possibility to Island-hop. Passed week I spent one day in Aruba. One of my friends was there and I could not stand not seeing her. Besides quality time with my friend, it was like a real (one day) mini vacation.

and we did quite a lot!

What to do.....

1. I stayed at my friends, close to baby beach (east of the island).

In the AM do some kind of water sport. We Kayaked, swam and snorkeled.

2. For lunch we stopped at Charlie's bar in San Nicholas, It was delicious. We snacked on conch fritters with wedge potato and a shrimp seviché. The potato wedge had the perfect crunch to it and the seviché has wonderful flavor with a little kick to it.

3. While driving, sight see. Instead of driving on the main road, drive along the coast passed the local beaches like Mangel Halto and Spaans Lagoen.

4. Take a coffee break before heading to the city "Playa" Coffee House Aruba. Had the best iced latte yet. and the prices are very decant. It feels like a European coffee house (in the tropics!).

5. After roaming the city for a little while, continue onwards to the beaches passed the hotel chain. We took a walk at Malmok Beach and Arachi Beach, where you will see the light house at the tip of the island.

6. Right before sun-down we made it to Palm Beach and had a drink at Pelican's Nest.

Although it rained earlier that day, we had an amazing sunset. And I had a wonderful mini vacation.

3 Ways; Denim, Denim, Denim

Since I have moved down to the island, I can count on one hand how often I have worn jeans. However there are more ways to wear denim. It does give a casual touch, but may be worn more than just in the weekend.

Wear a denim strap dress, layered over a t-shirt or frilly top. Dress it down with trending lace-up sandals or dress it up with wedges or clog-style heels.

Last days of summer, wear denim espadrilles with a white eyelet dress. You may also opt for denim loafers or sneakers for fall (like "these").

DIY; Tasseled Basket

I love a little funk in my wardrobe. this Tassel basket is exactly that. Perfect for the summer, markets roaming, a day at the beach or even with a simple black dress or "BF jeans and white tee" outfit.

It is easy and fun!!

What you need;

- A basket ( I have had mine for a while, so I am going to re-invent something I already own)

- Tassels (in Curacao, get them at Ackerman, check other local fabric or trimmings stores, or make them yourself; watch "this tutorial here")

- Optional; Needle and thread

Decide which color scheme your going for; you could do colorful rainbow, or ombre colored.

I simply tucked the loop in and tied them in between the basket. You could also sew or "hot glue gun" them on.

Beauty Buzz; Peachy Summer Look

This week try out a new lightweight, fresh new summer look. You don't need a lot, just a bronzy cheek and a peachy lip. Tie your hair back to keep your crazy "fly-away hair" in tact (like me). I used Bobbi Brown Duo Mascara (one side is Extreme length and the other is No Smudge waterproof), Ideal for vacations along the sea.

Tone your face with fleur d'orange water (orange blossom water), it is refreshing and energizing.

Then moisturize, I use a moisturizer with SPF in it and I recently started using a BB cream. The BB cream is nice and light weight with a higher SPF. it evens out red spots and gives the skin a glow without looking like a cake.

I use my fingers to apply the BB cream, the warmth of your hands will make it set well.

Apply Bronzer with a flat brush, right underneath your cheekbones and on your temples in upward motion.

Smile slightly and apply a peachy-coral blush to the apples of your cheeks.

This season I am into the peaces and cream orange lipstick to complete the look.

Weekend by the sea

Rediscovering my island is a delight. Last weekend we drove around and ended up at a fishers bay Boca Sami, St. Michiel. we had an amazing lunch of fresh fish and "funchi hasa" something like polenta fries. For dessert local ladies walk around selling fresh pastries like "tert di coco" a coconut pie-like pastry.

Spending time along the water is amazing and here in Curaçao this is possible everyday!

Oatmeal Cookie, Ice-cream Sandwich

I made these sour cherry, white chip oatmeal cookies and to make this party complete I added ice-cream and created sandwiches.

I used this recipe ("here") and added dried sour cherries and white chocolate chips.

Of course you could add anything you like to the oatmeal cookies like;

Macadamia and white chips,

Dried apricots and white chips,

Pistachio and dried cranberries,

Pecans and dark chocolate chips.

Pick your favorite and create a summer party!

Make the basic recipe and spoon in the add-in ingredients last...

Let them cool down completely (I even popped them in the freezer).

Then scoop one scoop of half soft ice-cream in the middle of he flat side of the cookie and lightly press another on top.

Wrap them individually in foil and pop them back in the freezer for another hour or two.

Et Voila! Serve them straight out of the freezer. Enjoy!!
