Within the sports industry, I have already used many different social media outlets for my personal use. I get a lot of information from my followers and the people that I follow on Twitter as well as the friends I follow on Facebook. There are tons of amounts of information available for fans to be involved in.

As I have researched on the Internet about social media opportunities in the sports industry, I have found many opportunities for all sports fans and companies to become involved. Some ideas that I have seen and thought were good ideas to use social media sites are explained in this blog article. Add your thoughts as well and let's socialize.

One that I have seen is on Facebook, the Colts created a photo application. Basically, they posted photos that fans could get on and look for themselves and tag themselves in the photos to post onto their blogs. This could be elaborated on to allow those fans to post their experiences from the game. Maybe they could create a contest of those who had the best experience in that area of the arena.

Twitter also allows everyone to get the info for games and sports happenings. Twitter can create the opportunity for fans to become involved with sports in many ways. Players have their own twitter pages, fans can follow those players to get personal information about each of the players they are interested in. There are also some players and coaches that are working "raffles" so to speak to give away prizes. Twitter can also create ways to build relationships with fans and others. Becoming a fan of a sports celebrity on Twitter could provide ways the players and celebs can exchange information so to better understand one another. This could provide opportunities for fans to meet sports greats in person, they could work trivia on their players to win prizes, or they could post information on their players to be presented to the team or in the stadium.

Foursquare is also another social media site that I am learning right now, but it seems like there are many opportunities to promote sports businesses through this site. Foursquare allows you to "check in" to places and allow people to see where you are at certain times. With Starbucks (from a video that was watched through a class I am taking), they allowed followers to check in to Starbucks within a certain time period and, if they checked in, they would receive a promo item through email or other outlet. Sports could also use this to "check in" to certain venues for sporting events. From an article below, this could be done and posted within the stadium so fans could see themselves as they checked in, maybe on the big screen.

Here are the links used for some information and also links that provide more information to elaborate on some topics hit on in this blog. I hope you read my blog and give me your thoughts on social media and sports. Also, give me some of your ideas on how this will benefit the sports industry.

Links:
http://www.sportsnetworker.com/2010/11/12/incorporating-social-media-into-televised-sports/
http://www.coylemedia.com/2011/01/04/hello-social-media-meet-the-for-nfl-playoffs/

Here is also a video that explains a little bit how athletes are breaking into the social media aspect of sports and how it is changing the views of fans and followers as well as changing the face of media.

How Social Media Affects Sports Marketing

Hire Me!!

Breaking into the sports industry is not going to be an easy feat. There are many others wanting to work in sports and the sports industry is a very demanding industry. There are a lot of sacrifices I will have to make, but I believe I am ready to make sacrifices to work in an industry that I have a lot of interest in. I would like to work in the planning, organizing, and management of sporting events.

Starting in the sports industry, there are going to have to be many changes. These changes may include money, home, travel, vacation, and many other factors. An article I read recently described the time that it will take to begin in the industry. Many people working within sports have sacrificed holidays and time to make their career work. It will also take a lot of hard work. Being that so many people want to be in the industry, there has to be something that distinguishes me from the others. Sending a resume to the president of the company will not work in this day and age. What am I going to do to set myself from the others? I have to create opportunities for myself that will get me the experience I need to show the people in the industry that I can do what I need to do. I will have to get the experience through internships and learning to work within the industry and build my skills in sales and marketing as well.

There are many different places that I found that show opportunities for working within the sports industry. I currently follow, on Twitter, the Work In Sports feed. This shows many different opportunities available within the industry. This is a site that asks for a fee to view the different jobs, but I believe there are many opportunities available by paying the fee. I have also worked within the Sports Networker site. I believe that is a good source for finding opportunities in sports as well.

Overall, I have to distinguish myself from all the many others looking for jobs in the sports industry as well. I have to look for internships that allow me to show my skills. These internships, for example, could include sales jobs working for a large sports facility...maybe the Dallas Cowboys stadium. I could use the tools above to look for a job in the industry as well, maybe something similar to that spoken of previously.

The links below show the information used for this blog and the links that were spoken about in the article. If you have any sources or information to add, please feel free to do so. Any additional information out there I would be more than willing to know and explore.

www.gamefacesportsjobs.com/breaking_in/sportsjobfaqs.html
www.sportsnetworker.com
www.workinsports.com
