Rumours of the actress casting her sister Isabel in the film were also afoot. UPDATE 10-Tornadoes tear across US South, killing over 300

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., April 28 (Reuters) - Tornadoes and violent storms tore through seven Southern states, killing at least 306 people and causing billions of dollars of damage in one of the deadliest swarm of twisters in U.S. history.
President Barack Obama described the loss of life as 'heartbreaking' and called the damage to homes and businesses 'nothing short of catastrophic.' He promised strong federal support for rebuilding and plans to view the damage on Friday.
Over several days this week, the powerful tornadoes -- more than 160 reported in total -- combined with storms to cut a swath of destruction heading west to east. It was the worst U.S. natural disaster since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which killed up to 1,800 people.
In some areas, whole neighborhoods were flattened, cars flipped over and trees and power lines felled, leaving tangled wreckage.

While rescue officials searched for survivors, some who sheltered in bathtubs, closets and basements told of miraculous escapes. 'I made it. I got in a closet, put a pillow over my face and held on for dear life because it started sucking me up,' said Angela Smith of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, one of the worst-hit cities.
In Birmingham, Alabama, which was also hard hit, Police Chief A.C. Roper said rescue workers sifted through rubble 'hand to hand' on Thursday to pull people from destroyed homes.
'We even rescued two babies, one that was trapped in a crib when the house fell down on top of the baby,' Roper said in an interview on PBS NewsHour.
Tornadoes are a regular feature of life in the U.S. South and Midwest, but they are rarely so devastating.
Wednesday was the deadliest day of tornadoes in the United States since 310 people lost their lives on April 3, 1974.
Given the apparent destruction, insurance experts were wary of estimating damage costs, but believed they would run into the billions of dollars, with the worst impact concentrated in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.
'In terms of the ground-up damage and quite possibly the insured damage, this event will be of historic proportions,' Jose Miranda, an executive with the catastrophe risk modeling firm EQECAT, told Reuters.

'ONE OF THRE WORST'
'I think this is going to rank up as one of the worst tornado outbreaks in U.S. history,' said Federal Emergency Management Agency director Craig Fugate.
Fugate spoke in an interview with CNN from Alabama, where his agency said the tornadoes killed at least 204 people. There were still unconfirmed reports late on Thursday of 'entire towns flattened' in northern parts of the state, Fugate said.
'We're still trying to get people through rescues and locate the missing,' he said.
In preliminary estimates, other states' officials reported 33 killed in Mississippi, 34 in Tennessee, 11 in Arkansas, 14 in Georgia, eight in Virginia and two in Louisiana.
The mile (1.6 km)-wide monster twister that tore on Wednesday through Tuscaloosa, home to the University of Alabama, may have been the biggest ever to hit the state, AccuWeather.com meteorologist Josh Nagelberg said.
Obama said he would visit Alabama on Friday to see the damage and meet the governor. He declared a state of emergency for Alabama and ordered federal aid.
'I want every American who has been affected by this disaster to know that the federal government will do everything we can to help you recover, and we will stand with you as you rebuild,' Obama said at the White House.
Miranda said estimated costs would be 'in the same ballpark' as an Oklahoma City tornado outbreak in 1999 that caused $1.58 billion of damage and a 2003 tornado outbreak in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma that caused $4.5 billion of damage.
The Browns Ferry nuclear power plant in Alabama was expected to be shut for days, possibly weeks, as workers repaired damaged transmission lines.
But the backup systems worked as intended to prevent a partial meltdown like the nuclear disaster in Japan.
The rampaging tornadoes and violent storms destroyed 200 chicken houses that held up to 4 million chickens in Alabama, the No. 3 U.S. chicken producer.
They also battered a local coal mine.
Up to 1 million people in Alabama were left without power.
Daimler said it had shut down its Mercedes-Benz vehicle assembly plant in Tuscaloosa until Monday due to the tornadoes, but the plant itself sustained only minor damage.

'SOUNDED LIKE CHAIN-SAW'
Some of the worst devastation occurred in Tuscaloosa, a town of about 95,000 in the west-central part of Alabama, where at least 37 people were killed, including some students.
'It sounded like a chain-saw. You could hear the debris hitting things. All I have left is a few clothes and tools that were too heavy for the storm to pick up. It doesn't seem real,' said student Steve Niven, 24.
'I can buy new things but you cannot replace the people. I feel sorry for those who lost loved ones,' Niven told Reuters.
The campus of the University of Alabama, home of the famous Crimson Tide football team, was not badly damaged, but some students were killed off campus, Bentley said.
Shops, shopping malls, drug stores, gas stations and dry cleaners were all flattened in one section of Tuscaloosa.
Alabama's governor declared a state of emergency and deployed 2,000 National Guard members. Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia also declared states of emergency.
Among the Alabama counties affected was Jefferson, which is struggling to avert what would be the largest bankruptcy in municipal history over a $3.2 billion bond debt.
The county suffered 'widespread damage,' a local emergency spokesman said, and at least 17 people were killed.

They work for a local bhai (Alok Chaturvedi), who, in turn, serve another small mafia. Tilak is married to Sapna (Radhika Apte) who, as he discovers, is surprisingly ahead of him. She has read Paulo Coelho’s Alchemist much before he even struggles to read it. Tilak’s introduction to Coelho is a life-altering moment in his life, and the scenes in which the writers establish this are infused with sympathy and humour.

Sony S1&S2 Honeycomb tablets

Well, well. What have we got here? Another day another tablet is announced.

I’m talking about the new “Sony Tablet(s)” codenamed S1 and S2 that Japanese company unveiled today. Or should I say “previewed today”, since besides some cool Photoshop renderings and display size, Sony decided to keep most of the other details to themselves. Raising a ton of interesting questions about the whole thing.
Let’s start with what we know.
We always knew that Sony can do great design and the new S1 and S2 tablets are no exception. They both look unusual, but very good, and will get you noticed anywhere.
The display size for S1 is 9.4”:

Sony says that both tablets will run on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, will have Wi-Fi and WAN (3G/4G) modems available, will support DLNA and act as a remote controls for other Sony A/V equipment. Where available, they will also run Sony cloud entertainment “Qriocity” service, and support the Playstation Network too. Here’s a promo video for new tablets:

That’s about all Sony decided to tell us about the new tablets. Which leaves us with more questions the we got answers today. Here are some of them:
*1. Why the heck did Sony even bother to announce these things today? The new tablets won’t be available until this fall. Which means we are probably at least 6 months away from launch. And the only thing you have to show us are some Photoshop renderings and some pretty vague specs. I know in gaming console biz things move slowly, and it’s business as usual to pre-announce new devices 6-12 months in advance. But in a fast paced tablet/smartphone/next gen mobile computing field? I’m not sure it’s such a good idea.
*2.And why Sony is making tablets in the first place? Aren’t smartphone makers supposed to be better equipped to do tablets? Why aren’t S1 and S2 done by Sony Ericsson? Especially when last January SE was strongly hinting that some very unique tablets are on the way. Did you take that Sony Ericsson project away from them? If yes, why? Is there something we should know about the Sony Ericsson future prospects? If, not and SE is also working on some sort of a tablet, will they compete with Sony?
*3 Are you serious about this Android 3.0 Honeycomb stuff, you say the new Sony Tablets will be running in fall 2011? The same old buggy Android 3.0 from early 2011, when Google starts shipping the next iteration Android 3.x this fall? Wasn’t Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 update debacle enough of a lesson last year?
Oh well, I guess we’ll have to wait until this fall and see what happens.

Verizon will be updating its Droid lineup with a new HTC Droid Incredible 2, which is based on the Incredible S. Launching this Thursday, the new CDMA handset offers a bigger screen, some more RAM and a front-facing camera compared to its now canceled predecessor. The HTC Droid Incredible 2 for Verizon boasts a 4” WVGA screen, compared to the 3.7” of the previous model and 768MB of RAM (vs. 512MB), but the same 1GHz single-core CPU. The Droid Incredible 2 still runs Android 2.2 Froyo. The main camera is 8MP with 720p video recording again, though there is a secondary camera now, a 1.3MP unit. Other new goodies include noise-cancellation microphone and SRS WOW HD sound-enhancing technology. The rest is pretty much the same.

Anyway, Verizon no longer offers the old model. Instead, you can get an HTC Droid Incredible 2 starting 28 April (this Thursday) for $199 on a new 2-year contract with a Nationwide Talk plan (starts at $40/month) and a smartphone data plan ($30/month, unlimited).

Bollywood badshah Shah Rukh Khan, chirpy Juhi Chawla and her hubby Jai Mehta are all set to develop a cricket stadium in Porbandar, Gujarat.

Apparently, the troika has zeroed in on Mahatma Gandhi`s birthplace because Jai`s family has roots there. Interestingly, the owners Kolkata Knight Riders plan to take over the Duleep cricket ground in Porbandar to build a stadium to be named after Jai’s grandfather - Nanji Kalidas Mehta in its place.
Apart from adding strength to Gujarat`s cricket program, it will also provide training camps to KKR.
Talking to a daily, a source said, “The local district cricket association and Mehta Sports Private Limited recently inked a deal to build the Nanji Kalidas Mehta stadium at a cost of almost Rs 10 crore.”
“They have decided on a three-tiered approach. First they plan to make at least 12 pitches, then the dressing rooms and finally the stands. UK-based David Hemstock Associates will develop the outfield and dressing rooms.”
