I've been having fun organizing my tangles in alphabetical order, and then demonstrating how to create them on the

Back. Then to shorten the demo, I use red for the first step, blue for the second step and black for the third step.2

I used Chartz, which is the big zig zag pattern with circles, Ditto, (the inside boarder) and 133, which is the outer twiggy boarder. Hope you like it.

I used Akoya (that's the one going around the boarder and I absolutely LOVE it!), Tripoli (very hard to get all the triangles the same and spaced correctly, which is why I have them colored in solid instead of a design like I started to. Definately need more practice) I did read that it helps to think of them as circles with 6 triangles creating a circle and 3 triangles creates half a circle and that helped a lot! Then there is Kecko (the weave one with lines. Love it!), and finally Knightsbridge.

Zentangle Challenge #21 is P - I - J and I used Pokeroot (the little mushroom or cherry looking things in the bottom left corner), Puf (which is the one I used most on this tile, very fun!), Intersect (the funny looking stars), and then Jax.

Ok, this is for Diane & Carolien's Weekly Zentangle Challenge http://www.dianeclancy.com/blog/2015/08/weekly-challenge-18-tangle-with-b-e-z/

First we have Challenge #18, which are for tangles that start with B - E - Z.

Some of the tangles I used were Blooming Butter, Buggy Beads, Buddy, Efilys, Zenplosion & Zebra. It takes me longer to decide which tangles I'm going to use than to actually do the artwork. I am finding that one of the tricks is to take it slow, one stroke at a time.

I really got into the Blooming Butter, which are all those flowers.

Now Zentangle #19 is for tangles starting with N - V & B and I used Nexus (the 3 crazy stars, Bales (the Boarder), and Vermal. I Kept it simple.

I used Umble, Nipa & zing, along with some others. I should call it X Marks The Spot.

Finally, Challenge 17 are for tangles that start with the letters S - P - V, and I used Sooflower, Squiggles, Poke Leaf, Printemps and Vortex.

I always practice new tangles on a piece of paper before I start the actual tile. (The 3.5 inch square paper that the tangles are commonly designed on are called tiles.)

I read this post by Pastor Tim Burt and it really spoke to me, here's a paragraph from his post.

"The Apostle Paul was teaching Timothy that the point of our conversation with others in the Lord is to produce spiritual edification that helps people live a life of faith and trust in God. It is not to put out a lot of blah, blah, blah that sounds spiritual but really just becomes a lot of words or “meaningless talk.” Paul writes, “Don't let people waste time in endless speculation over myths and spiritual pedigrees. For these things only cause arguments; they don't help people live a life of faith in God. The purpose of my instruction is that all the Christians there would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and sincere faith. But some teachers have missed this whole point. Some have wandered away from these and turned to “meaningless talk.” (1 Tim. 1:4-6)"

Play Time With Inks

I took a couple of hours or so today to just play with my alcohol inks. No planning, just playing and it was so much fun. This is the only medium I can do that with. These are the results. What do you think?

My Alcohol Ink Hummer

Today's painting, My Little Hummer was done with alcohol inks on Yupo paper, a new fav of mine.

I finally got back to my animals art class that I am taking through Karen Walker.

I basically used 2 colors, we'll kinda. Purple and green: Twilight Purple and about 3 or 4 different greens and a touch of butterscotch. Ok, so I guess that's three.

I first drew my hummingbird out on a piece of computer paper, which is my preferred paper for drawing. I then scribbled on the back of the drawing so I could trace it onto the Yupo paper.

This is where the fun begins, I started pouring on the inks starting with the purple. I really used a lot of ink and I let it lay flat most of the time, taking a brush to fill in the white spots. I also used a little blending solution In the upper left quadrant, and held the paper up for a very short time. Most of it was done wet on wet, except for the flowers in the upper right, and some extra green on the bird's back. Using my paintbrush to lift, blend and add color, a cotton ball with a little blending solution and cotton swabs to lighten areas and add flowers and a bit of Spectrum Noir markers under his chin.

With a little blending solution on my tiny brush, I traced over my drawing to lift the color and bring out the humming bird. From there I blended the lines, lifted color, added color and this is what I came up with.
