Marilyn Monroe: 50 Years of Style

2012-08-09T10:54:00.000-04:00

On August 5th 1962, Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe passed away...here are some of her unforgettable looks. She may not have been a style icon in her day but many look to her as a fashion icon.

Johanna Johnson Spring/Summer 2012

2012-05-07T23:38:00.000-04:00

Thanks to http://www.fashionising.com/ I was able to get so many pictures to share from the Johanna Johnson Spring/Summer 2012 runway show from Australian fashion week. The collection steered from black lace and leather to luxurious gold designs and then to intricate white beaded looks, all complete with head jewelry, one of fashion's newest trends. Johnson said that there are not as many bridal looks but more red carpet glamorous designs which she has been in high demand for (note: my last post, Kim Kardashian wore a Johanna Johnson dress to the White House dinner). Johnson's inspiration was, "...very Egyptian....palace shapes and colourways. There'll be lots of coals, dark blacks, onyx and lots of lashings of gold."

Check back on Makeup Monday for how the glamorous looks were achieved.

Trendy Thursday: Mint Green

2012-05-03T17:17:00.000-04:00

Pastels are of course huge for this spring/summer season, but my absolute favorite has to be mint green. It is a color that looks good on everyone and it popped up here and there in spring 2012 collections, so naturally I had to feature it!

Tomboy Style: Beyond the Boundaries of Fashion by Lizzie Garrett Mettler (purchase on Amazon)

(excerpt from the books introduction: "...the all encompassing nature of tomboy style. Its umbrella covers everything from overalls to smoking jackets, punk shows to horse shows. The look has been embraced all over the world. But despite its great diversity, there is on consistent thread...:their spirit. Tomboys share an invisible intrigue cultivated from their inherent confidence, rebelliousness, and unquenchable thirst for adventure. ...the clothing will only ever account for the thin surface of tomboy style. The complete look requires the right woman underneath."
