I find myself running around with a million things in my mind, finishing up post on projects, burning discs to mail out, loading the Macbook with stuff for the 16 hour flight there. No this is not a hunting safari. Site & Animal Seeing guided safari.

2011 was full of hard lessons and amazing opportunities. I’ve been hugely blessed by connecting with so many creatives (online and in person). Tough business lessons were taught through experiences. Dream projects became reality. (One’s I would have laughed at if somebody told me I would shoot them someday) There were also seasons that have tried me beyond imagination. Tested my will. Perseverance is a muscle. Strengthened through rigorous challenges.

We are protected by a 100 things we can see and 1,000 we will never realize existed. I’ve been there. I’ve wondered my purpose and worth in this world. It rains on the just and unjust a like. We will be tried again. That much is certain. But we must learn from every mistake. Be wise but not so jaded we are not too scared to try again. I heard a line the other day that has plagued me deeply. “What if hell were actually a reflection of our lives lived at our max potential?” What do you think? I plan on trying to narrow that gap of who I am and who I could be. We must dare to do better! Be better!

May the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows. And may you find the wind to your back, the sun on your face, and love in your hearts.

Stay Grateful my friends. Hold onto hope. Stay inspired and creative. Hope for your future and ours. 2012 will be great. Believe.

I’m grateful for each of you. Be blessed. Fearless love. -Braun #crazyblessed

I love music. I love movies. If 50% of any film is audio then these creatively edited “Mash Ups” are completely brilliant. Thought I would share a few of my favorite I have seen.

Seriously, watching stuff like this gets me really excited to see these films again. But in a way, and maybe I’m just sleep deprived, but seeing a collage of scenes, people in different scenarios and events all combining into one beautiful big collage…Do you think that’s how we will look back at our lives and see when we die? or perhaps how God see’s us as a race. (stretch) Isn’t that life though? It’s joyful and tear filled. Gripping Mad and Cloud 9. I know I’m getting abstract but food for thought.

What do you think? What songs would be on the soundtrack of your life?

ORRRR Perhaps God just see’s us like this.

and here’s a sweet bonus. Only cause I love you.

I’m a pretty big advocate of archiving what what inspires me. Inspiration is so important for creatives and blows my mind how many visual people overlook it’s weight. In a recent blog Miss Aniela, a photographer that I’m a huge fan (and been following her long enough to see her rise as a flickr star to the present international star in the fine art photography world)……described the importance of inspiration perfectly.

“Photographers don’t exist in a vacuum. Work doesn’t birth itself on another planet free from all external influence. All artists’ work is a collective flow of ideas: like water running its rivulets into the work of each single artist in existence; the water can’t collect in a self-contained pool and say ‘this is it, this is where it begins’.”

Stay inspired and stay creative my friends

Lately I’ve been asked quite a bit about what apps I use on the iPhone so I thought I’d write something up.Considering I’m a photographer, I want to start with the first blog about photography apps. These are the meat of the photo apps I really can’t see parting with, even thought I have about 3 times the amount on my iPhone. ENJOY. Keep Shooting.

Camera+ is the first app I suggest to people that want to take better photos with their iPhone. I compare it from going a point and shoot to a SLR. Shoots faster and sharper and has great filters/effects too. Clarity is my favorite. 1 on my list. The sharing options for social media are fantastic as well.

Snapseed is a close 2nd to features to Camera+. Some stuff it does better, like area specific retouching. This app is one of my newest apps but I really really love it.

instagram my newest obsession on the iPhone. The image capture and filters aren’t the best but the social aspect is so cool. Kind of like twitter but only visual. I usually take photos with Camera+ and import them into instagram. (my profile is BrianBraun) perfect for capturing and sharing life’s little interesting moments. Tilt Shift effect is fun too.

PANO is what it says, it creates panoramas. Fantastic for Landscapes or even interiors.

QuadCamera is a serious blast. great for when hanging out with friends and want to grab a series of images in one collage.

True HDR & Pro HDR are two apps that are excellent at producing HDR photos. Really they do a great job of making those surreal images that combines the highlights, mids, and darks. Perfect for shots where things are too contrasty.

Diptic is a really cool “accessory” app that you can combine separate photos to make collages. fun to post with instagram.

FEED ME!

SlowShutter is a pretty rad app that lets you play with some cool creative “Slow Shutter” effects like an SLR could. It’s a bit tricky but you can adjust the light sensitivity and time you want it to shoot. Very fun to experiment with.

PhotoForge 2 is a new app to me but has a ton of cool creative filters and advanced editing options. I really look forward to experimenting with this more.

I love seeing my friends and family who switch from their comfort zones and beloved “better” devices to the iPhone. Their response after they get used to it is so fun. I love The level of impact the iPhone has changed multiple industries hasn’t fully been realized yet but I think it is truly a pivotal point in history.

The best camera is the one with you. One of my favorite things to do while I’m waiting for something is to look through the images I’ve shot through me iPhone. Just as good as a diary. Keep Shooting!

Dead as disco. I took it to the Apple store and said it was something with the motherboard. Either way I was over due for one, as a professional creative. My 17 inch had been run HARD for years and was just it’s time. (nor justifiable to fix).

Bitter sweet though. This was my first mac ever and my only computer for a solid 3 years. I learned photoshop and basically grew with it as I began my photography career. I learned quick that advertising agencies and most creatives used macs so she was my card to the cool club. LOL.

I traveled with this computer every where. (what felt like) 50lb’s of her LITERALLY bulletproof self. To the Emmy’s, Gold Globes, tethered as I shot into it everywhere. I remember trying to open it on a airplane. Might as well been a 60inch screen.

So I went into debate mode. I wanted a smaller laptop since I had the 27 inch iMac I used at my house. It just made sense to have something smaller that could travel easy but still something with muscle. I almost chose a 13 inch Mac Air because of how crazy lite it was but still was pretty quick. The only deal breaker after talking to some of other photographers is that it strained when tethering to medium format digital cameras like Hasselblad or Mamiya, which is something that is very part of my work now. 13 inch Macbook Pro it is! 8gb of Ram, i7 processor and splurged on the SSD drive. This thing but super quick! Greatly Looking forward to using it in the field soon.

RIP old friend
