Google hasn’t always been the most forthright company. In the spirit of ‘That’s Right, I Said It‘ attitude I thought I’d share my thoughts with the three people that read the nonsense I write.

In the Webmaster Central Help forum a Google employee said, “We’ve been telling people for a long time that they shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much; many site owners seem to think it’s the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true. We removed it because we felt it was silly to tell people not to think about it, but then to show them the data, implying that they should look at it. “

Now that’s just fine, Google wants to keep and use pagerank but we “shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much“. I agree with Extreme John’s statement last month, “Page Rank is an important factor when it comes to how other bloggers and even investors view your blog“. [See How to Check Your Google Page Rank]

When deciding where we want backlinks PageRank is a quick and easy way to get an idea of the authority, in Google’s eyes anyway, that the site has. When we are determining which keywords to use and how the competition looks with those keywords we use PageRank. Sure, Google PR isn’t the be-all end-all ranking tool and no one should be obsessed with it but I don’t see why it should be ignored. Personally I prefer Alexa rank over PR anytime, Alexa gives us an idea of traffic, not just how good someone is at SEO.

When Google changes or updates the PageRank Algorithm some will be happy and many will be disappointed. Most, I think, couldn’t care less. And changes there will be, you can always count on that. Getting obsessed with it is setting yourself up for certain disappointment. Look at the list of sites that lost significant PR exactly two years ago: Google Changing the PageRank Algorithm? In fact, ExtremeEzine.com had a PageRank of 05/10 and I would love to see it there again. It’s a “status” thing, sure, but it’s more than that. It’s a measurement of success to many sites, webmasters and internet savvy geeks like me. Just like money is, like it or not – agree with it or not. If you can advertise on one of two related and relevant sites for the same price, where are you going to put your money? The one with zero PR or the one with a five? Case closed!

I post and comment without a single thought about PageRank and it probably shows. I had no idea what this site’s PR was until I checked seconds ago. I really don’t care, it’s a personal blog. I use this site as self therapy and to show off how smart i is, really. If I was making money from this site it would be a different story. I want traffic and PageRank on sites I’m feeding my family from, especially if I’m selling ad spots on the site.

My conclusion? Google spent all that time developing a popular system while saying they don’t want it to be popular. Why did they even make it publicly visible? They hide everything else like it was National Security or something. Now, to prove their point, they have removed it from one of their products. Big deal! Ever hear the term ‘you made your bed now lay in it‘? If they don’t want it, move over; I’ll gladly lay in it! For a company that earned revenue of $5.94 billion last quarter they sure seem dumb sometimes.

That’s Right, I Said It now you do your part and Speak You Mind!

The folks in Washington are very excited about these programs. Let me try to explain to you how it works using a simple Q and A format:

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn’t that stimulating the economy of China?
A.. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China.

If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.

If you buy a computer, it will go to India.

If you buy fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala.

If you buy a car, it will go to Japan.

If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan.

If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.

Instead, keep the money in America by:

Spending it at yard sales, or

Going to ball games, or

Spending it on prostitutes, or

Beer or

Tattoos.

- —————
So, I’m going to go to a ball game and drink beer with a tattooed prostitute that I met at a yard sale.

The site is over run by teenagers (I know, they were first) and online whores but it always was. So what changed? For one thing I feel like I’m going into an epileptic seizure with all the flashing banners and ads everywhere. That’s after waiting ten minutes for the page to load.

The purpose of this post was going to be about using my MySpace friends as a starting point when developing your own MySpace page if you are new to it and looking for marketers. It took less than a minute to understand why I don’t log in any more – MySpace sucks! MySpace is a very boring place right now but I’m hoping they’ll get a clue and improve it so my past efforts don’t go to waste. I actually had my profile page up to a PR of 5 when I was on there promoting everyday. That was when ExtremeEzine was 05/10 too. Yep, the good ol’ days.

I’ve been pretty selective who I’ve accepted as a MySpace friend over the years. From the beginning I decided to limit those friends to other internet marketers and online business owners. I wasn’t interested in big boob bimbos and rock star wannabes, I wanted to stay within my niche. I know 600 MySpace friends is tiny but, like I said, I was very selective and never used automated crap to build the list.

Should I Flush MySpace?
I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just cut my loses and drop MySpace altogether. I have enough time-wasters. What do you think, should I flush MySpace?

Feel free to send me a friend request and next month when I log in again I’ll probably accept the invitation. At this point it’s better to just concentrate on FaceBook I guess. Here’s mine, what’s yours? Feel free to add your facebook link in your comment.

As an honest person with morals and a conscience I appreciate ‘Truth In Advertising‘.

There has been a lot of debate and discussion over ‘Truth In Advertising‘ when it comes to celebrity endorsements. For example, the law says if Catherine Zeta-Jones says she uses T-Mobile she better be using it. Give me a $20 million celebrity endorsement deal (according to AdRants.com) and I’ll sleep with the thing in my ear every night.

That doesn’t mean we have to use or even try everything we sell or endorse, it just say’s we can’t say we do if we don’t. BUT, I take it one step closer and refuse to promote or endorse any product that I haven’t tried and like. That’s why you don’t see me involved in too many joint venture deals or even affiliate programs. Most of them are junk and unless I have personally tried and like a product you will not see it on my sites. The only exception to this rule would be ads such as AdSense since I have little control over that and my automated niche sites. Those are pretty much hands-off self contained sites.

If I recommend you try a program or read a book you can bet I use the program and have read the book. Don’t even hesitate to ask for proof, I’m happy to oblige.

This post is to assure customers that I can be trusted and is not intended to ‘set a standard‘ although it wouldn’t be a bad way to go. How about you, do you like to test drive that latest gadget or program before you push it? No problem if you don’t, most marketers feel confident that the product has been advertised fairly. Others say it’s risk free due to a no questions asked refund policy. That’s all cool, I just want to take that extra step.
