Range Funeral Home

I typically publish photos of local churches on Sunday. While a funeral home is not a church per se, it is a place where people give praise and glory to God. So, why not?

At the corner of Eastern Avenue and Third Avenue, Range Funeral Home is an elegant place. The building, perhaps, was once an East Side Mansion that an owner converted in the 1950s or 1960s.

The beautiful home presents a sharp contrast with its neighbors on Eastern Avenue. Where many are designs in the Queen Anne style or New Roman, this home is decidedly Southwestern.

Like so many other homes in the East Joliet Historic District, this one has been divided; it appears, into a duplex.

Union Pacific Railroad Line

Nearly every morning, you see freight trains winding their way through East Joliet. Most of these trains are moving in and out of the CenterPoint Intermodal Center near Elwood, Illinois. These trains ride along the Union Pacific Line just east of the Joliet East Side Historic District.

This is the rail line that backs on to Eastern Avenue.
