Reminders (for historians)

For some reason, this story about N. Koreans halting their nuclear program reminds me of this:

http://www.cla.calpoly.edu/~lcall/chamberlain2.jpg

EDIT: SEE? THE VERY NEXT DAY - DPRK wants a reactor from U.S.

Almost forgot

So I totally forgot about my tire, and so I run to Sears at 9 (all the while thinking that I will encounter a large crowd, just like the other day). Large crowd getting new tires, but somehow I got my work done quickly. Also, no chance of outside exercise today, so I guess it'll be inside the student center.

Senators and sentences

Since I started back exercising last week, I've already begun to feel the differences. I hope to go exercising today despite the forecast for t'storms. Although it is cold in the morning, the afternoons are warming up to late-spring-SC temperatures. In other news, my school projects' deadlines keep getting moved ahead in time by my professors. Pretty soon there won't be any time left to do them!

(I accidentally wrote "t'stroms" the first time, then I just wrote "the frist time." Strom? Frist? What is with the senatorial references in my typos today? Maybe that is how they named them. "Let's call him Storm." Then they wrote it wrong on the certificate. Back when I was in high school, I heard from a reputable source that Strom had illegitimate children. My source also said that when Strom died, it would hit the fan - and it did!)

Livejournal is really amazing, and I have yet to realize its full potential. I am wanting to make it look more like my webpage; so far, so good. There are so many aspects that I can tweak and yet I lack the complete knowledge of how to do so. (This reminds me of when I was younger and someone commented on how formal my colloquial sentence structures are. "Brian, you could've said 'My shirt color matches my eyes,' but instead you said, 'The color of my eyes is dependent on the color of the clothing that I wear.'") I hope I can figure it all out.

Tire woes, washing clothes, and tax foes

Yep, again I have something in one of my tires - a screw. Thank goodness that
1) I saw it as I was getting into my car after exercising, and
2) I had that particular tire covered under the Road-Hazard agreement.

Since I am self-employed, I get to pay both parts of the Soc. Sec. tax. Yay me. Yay taxes.

Sears was too busy this time of day, so I'll take it Wed morning probably. It's amazing how I thought about taking the car to get it's tires rotated this morning, and if I had done so and not known about the screw it would have been a hassle in the end.

Clothes are almost done drying, so cooking will be in my future this evening whilst reading for class, typing a summary, and then going to rehearsal. After looking over my schedule, it seems that every other week is exceptionally busy and this just so happens to be the busy one. But being busy is good for me....

I can't wait to see what my new website and logo conceptions look like. I gave my friends the deadline of May, but I said they wouldn't have to be held steadfast to that time. Knowing my friend's abilities, it'll be amazing.

Long days...

Today was quite a long day - played my Sunday brunch gig, then came back and rehearsed in the afternoon. Tried to get some reading done for class (pretty much reading ahead at this point). Decided to watch the Academy Awards Show. Bill Murray was robbed! I think he is so underrated and deserved something. Another travesty was the Annie Lennox song - all those other songs were so much more deserving, I mean, come on! Allison Krauss alone was nominated for two songs and you tell me she didn't deserve something besides a nomination? Tsk tsk....

This coming week consists of school days and rehearsal/gig nights. This coming weekend will be quite busy and almost all at one jazz club (Sambuca Addison)! Thursday night will be a night of difficult, original music to read. Spring break can't come soon enough!

More at first, less later

Went exercising - braved the cold, high-speed winds to get it. Next, rehearsal with Urban Folk.

I guess I am pretty into this online journal thing now because it's new. I am sure over time, I'll probably come and go like a lot of the other journal people. My wonder is why people would say, "This journal is mainly for friends," if it's online and in a public-type forum (Livejournal). I mean, isn't the point of having it here to be more public about your life, share things about yourself to other people? I mean, email and phone could be for more personal things if need be, or create a forum for that (maybe that is how they are using their Livejournal and that's fine, too). I guess if you don't want to make things public, then simply don't write them. But otherwise, it's like saying, "I have a secret but I'm not going to tell you," which is pointless.

About the weather...

So I thought it'd be nice to go exercising outside today. And yet, it's very cold, cloudy, and windy - just my luck. I'll brave it a little later, but for now I thought I could go into the details about the place where I live.

This house is very unique in this town, for the people who originally built it have a street named after them (although it isn't this street we live on). Being an old house makes for the need of repairs and upkeep, all of which my landlord never does. So the temperature inside is sometimes closer (than I would like) to the temperature outside. Unfortunately, every room has some sort of draft, the oven doesn't work, tracer from gas lines are sometimes prevalent, smoke from cigarettes and other substances reek. Yet, I put it up with it because moving would be a pain right now.

Back to work...

The day...

Went to the Cheesecake Factory and had a crabcake sandwich (I'm not the best Catholic in the world, but sometimes it just comes out). After that, saw Girl with the Pearl Earring, a movie telling a fictitious story (based on a book) of the inspiration behind some of Vermeer's paintings. After studying Art History during my undergraduate tenure, I felt I had a little better appreciation and understanding of things in this film. The cinematography is amazing - Delft is so detailed and interacted with that you feel you are there, experiencing the bitter cold season as the waters freeze over and snow bombards the city. Scarlett does an excellent job, so this makes me ever the more ready to see Lost in Translation, especially to see Mr. Murray.

Came home this evening and made a bean burrito with green bean casserole; I love cooking so much and wish that I knew how to make many dishes. Just as with everything else, school gets in the way of so much learning - how ironic. Most people go galavanting off during the Friday night hours. I am content to rest after a somewhat tiring and trying day.

Tomorrow? Exercise and enjoy the outside until rehearsal!

First time for everything....

So here I am! Finally, after years of reading others blogs and journals, I decided to get one and start writing. I can't say that I'll be able to write here everyday or say anything worthwhile, but at least I've 1) secured this journal name, and 2) felt I would be able to contribute something. So, what is going on with me? I am here in Denton, TX trying to get my master of music degree. The weather is always uncertain - snow one day, 70's and sunshine the next. Since it is a college town, there is not much to do besides going out to eat or watching movies (writing in blogs I guess!). Dallas and Ft. Worth have many more things to do, so that is where I spend time when I can.
