Brandenburg "walks the walk", voted "most conservative" state senator.

MIRS, the Michigan Information and Research Service that provides news and analysis of state government in Lansing, recently came out with their annual ranking of “most-conservative” legislators. They do this by analyzing a sampling of a broad variety of votes and calculating the results to determine the legislator’s “conservative rating”. As a constituent and aide of State Senator Jack Brandenburg, I was extremely proud to see that Jack was named 2011’s most conservative senator.
There are several important reasons that this is something for Senator Brandenburg and his staff to be proud of. First, Senator Brandenburg campaigned as an “unapologetic conservative”, so not only did he “talk-the-talk” on the campaign trail, he “walked-the-walk” after he took office. All too often, politicians campaign on promises that are not kept because they cave under pressure from special interest groups or try to please all sides and lose sight of their principles. Not Senator Brandenburg; He campaigned as a fiscal and social conservative, and that is how he voted !
Senator Brandenburg can also be proud of the fact that his voting record closely reflects the views of his district. The residents of northern Macomb County are solidly conservative, and Jack’s votes are in line with the views of the vast majority of his constituents. He has not compromised his conservative principles and has proven to be a strong leader in the Senate Republican caucus, fighting to return our state to the sound fiscal principles that will improve our economy and attract businesses and jobs to our state !
Conservative fiscal principles may seem like “common-sense” to the average voter, but unfortunately they had become all-too “uncommon” in Lansing during the Granholm administration. Jack vowed to change that mindset in Lansing if elected, and he is helping to do just that. It won’t happen overnight, but Michigan’s credit rating has already been upgraded and it’s economic and employment outlook have improved dramatically after just 1 short year of conservative budgeting and fiscally-responsible spending. As reported in Crain’s Detroit Business magazine, “Credit rating firm Fitch Ratings has raised its outlook on Michigan”. In a news release, Fitch said “the change in the rating outlook reflects prudent budgeting and efforts to grow reserve levels in the context of an economy beginning to slowly rebound.” It’s been too long since we’ve heard that kind of optimistic talk about Michigan’s economic outlook, and Senator Brandenburg’s conservative leadership has contributed to the turnaround.
While much progress has been made in Lansing in the past year, much remains to be done. Senator Brandenburg has mentioned elimination of the onerous personal property tax as one of his top priorities in the Senate in the coming session, as he continues the fight to lift the burden that government puts on businesses in Michigan. As a small business owner, Jack knows that excessive government regulation and taxation has kept many small businesses from locating here in Michigan, and prevents others from growing and expanding. Improving the state’s economy and encouraging job growth must continue to be our number one priority, and Senator Brandenburg is committed to continuing to lead that effort in Lansing.
I am proud to be part of Senator Brandenburg’s staff, serving as his “District Representative” here in Macomb County, and Jack also has 2 committed conservative staffers working for him in Lansing; Chief of Staff Ken Matiyow, who also served as Jack’s Chief of Staff during Jack’s 6 years in the Michigan House representing Harrison Township and St. Clair Shores, and Legislative Director Dan Papineau, who is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Political Science, and who previously worked in the House Republican policy office. Reagan Democrats ... or union Republicans ?

I would like to expose a myth that exists here in Macomb County regarding the county's voters, especially union members, and their voting habits.

Since the early '80s, Macomb County has famously been referred to as the "Home of the Reagan Democrats." The Democrat party would like you to believe that this means most Macomb County voters are, "at heart," Democrats who just liked Ronald Reagan personally and crossed party lines to support him. I would submit to you that this is false, and something quite different is actually true.

I think the reality is that there are many voters in Macomb County who are basically conservatives, but for decades had been convinced to vote Democrat by unions, in spite of their overall beliefs. For years some workers have been told by unions that even though they agree with the Republican Party's conservative positions on issues like traditional marriage, gun rights, abortion, and taxes, that they should vote for liberal Democrat candidates who they disagree with on all of these fundamental issues because, Democrats and unions claim, "Democrats support workers." This is false.

Well, as we have recently witnessed here in Michigan after the disastrous eight years of job losses under Gov. Granholm, and now after three years of President Obama's record deficit spending, Democratic leadership does not necessarily benefit workers or create jobs. Liberal Democratic positions on these labor issues clearly discourage job creation, drive existing jobs overseas, and diminish workers job security. The statistics bear this out; The Federal Bureau of Labor reports that "in 2000 the number of private sector jobs in Michigan was 3,996,000; this number had dropped to 3,213,000 by August 2009 -- a drop of 783,000 jobs (19.6 percent)." That means 24 percent of all private sector job losses nationwide occurred in Michigan during this time period ! Michigan's Democrat governor infamously promised in her January 2006 State of the State address; "In five years you're gonna be blown away !" I think it's safe to say we were "blown away," but not the way we were led to believe. Macomb County voters, especially conservatives, now understand in a very personal way that government and unions do not create jobs. I personally believe that the less power unions and government have over our lives the better off we'll be. Our personal liberty is limited when we allow ourselves to be controlled by either. Jobs are created by entrepreneurs and successful businesses, not government and labor unions.

This does not mean to say that I don't think there is a role for unions to play; there is. But remember the famous John Emerich quote; "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Giving workers a choice will limit the power of unions, and their tendency not to consider all points of view. I'll give one example. I have suggested that the UAW put its prized "30 year-and-out" defined-benefit pension plan on the negotiating table, and use it to negotiate for a company paid "match" for employees' contributions to their 401k retirement plans. (Defined-Contribution). This would be a win-win for the company and the employees, allowing workers to participate in their retirement planning and build wealth, while allowing the companies to eliminate "legacy costs," making them more cost-competitive. But with the top-down power structure in the UAW, few have the courage to take a suggestion that challenges the existing power structure seriously. The thinking is: Why offer to negotiate away something that makes workers dependent on the union ? But, if the state gives workers more of a voice by passing right-to-work legislation, workers may be able to force some constructive, mutually beneficial change in the auto industry.

Macomb County's so called "Reagan Democrats" are, in most cases, just conservative-leaning independent voters who have in the past been led to believe that their interests were best served by Democrats and their union allies. Want real hope and change in Michigan? We can start by supporting giving workers a choice and supporting "Freedom to Work" laws.

Time for Michigan to let workers decide !

I still remember the day in 1978 when I was hired in as a 19-year old at Chryslers’ Highland Park World Headquarters. As I was filling out my paperwork to authorize union dues to be taken out of my pay, I naively asked “What If I don’t want to join the union ?” The Chrysler Labor Relations manager chuckled and said “Son, if you want to work for Chrysler Corporation, you don’t have a choice”. The recently concluded contract talks between the “Big 3” Detroit auto-makers and the United Auto Workers clearly demonstrate why individual workers need to be given the choice of whether or not they want to join a labor union.

I worked for Chrysler Corp. for 11 years before accepting a buy-out, and have now worked at Ford Motor Co. for 15 yrs., so I think I have been around the domestic auto industry long enough to form an informed opinion about unions and union membership. And I don’t appreciate having my job held hostage by my co-workers vote on a contract offer that I support.

While I won’t dispute the historical contributions of unions and the benefits of collective-bargaining, I strongly support the right of individual workers to choose whether-or-not to join a union. Under current Michigan labor law, if the majority of the workers at a business vote to join a union, everyone else, and anyone who hires in to that business is required, by law, to join that union. This “forced-unionism” is called a “closed-shop”, and it has created an adversarial-labor situation where many businesses now won’t even consider locating in our state.

It is time to give Michigan workers a choice, like those in 22 other states enjoy. There is growing support for the “Freedom-to-Work” movement that would change state labor law to allow workers to choose for themselves. Too many businesses are avoiding Michigan due to the unchallenged control that unions have over the labor force. This is not 1940, and the days of organized-labor having to fight for safe working conditions, decent benefits, and fair pay are over. It is now time to look for ways to allow American companies to compete in a global marketplace. It’s 2011 and Michigan needs to change, or as Governor Snyder says; Re-invent Michigan.

The unions would fight any right-to-work legislation for one very simple reason; it will reduce their power. Right now, unions make campaign contributions to liberal, democrat lawmakers who will in-turn protect unions interests. This is exactly the type of cozy relationship voters say they don’t like between politicians and special interest groups. And typically, over 90% of Unions’ political-action-committee contributions go to Democrat candidates, with less than 5% going to Republicans. This does not reflect the fact that approximately 40% of union members sometimes vote Republican. Politifact.com reports that exit polls from 2008 showed that 39% of voters from union households voted for Republican John McCain for President. So why is it that unions contribute almost exclusively to Democrats ? That would almost certainly change if workers were given a choice as to whether-or-not they wanted to join a union when they hired into a job at a union organized shop. Unions would then have to compete for the workers allegiance and membership, and it would almost certainly affect their political alliances. That would seem to be a healthy thing to me.

Keep in mind; Right-to-work laws do not ban unions, they only give workers a choice as to whether-or-not they want to join the union. More and more union members, including myself, have begun to realize that the only REAL job security comes from working for a competitive, profitable company, not from a promise made by a company under the threat of a labor strike.

For the last several years, our nation’s economy has been reeling under the weight of trillions of dollars of accumulated debt. When President George W. Bush took office, he inherited a national debt of over 5 trillion dollars. After 8 years in office, and fighting 2 wars,followed by the sub-prime loan/housing crisis, President Bush left office with a national debt of over 10 trillion dollars. And now, after only 2 ½ years in office, President Obama has increased the national debt to nearly 15 trillion dollars. His answer to the problem; spend more money.
To put this huge amount of money into perspective; one- trillion is one –thousand billion, and as of Oct. 1st 2011, our $14,700,000,000 ,000 national debt translates to $47,210.10 FOR EVERY American citizen We are clearly on a runaway train of debt, and simple common sense will tell you that there is a “train-wreck” coming.
Fortunately, as the country has struggled with the burden of this huge and rapidly rising debt, there has been a nation-wide grassroots awakening of common-sense fiscal conservatives. The “Tea-Party” movement has been both vilified by the left, and dismissed by the mainstream media, but it has become the most powerful force in American politics today. You can try to deny it or debate it, but fiscal conservatives are thankfully taking control of the national discussion about the looming economic crisis. We can no longer allow Keynesian economists’, or Saul Alinsky trained “community organizers” like Barack Hussein Obama to chart the course for America. We must take our country back from the liberals and Socialists like Obama, and return it to a path of fiscal restraint as well as personal responsibility. We must commit ourselves to accepting responsibility for our own fortunes rather than expecting “government” to provide for us. That is socialism, and we are not a socialist country.
America’s economic system is free-market capitalism and we are unfortunately caught in the throes of decline and decay that the false promises of social democracy bring. Europe is currently struggling with its very economic survival because it believed those false promises of the “social welfare state”. We cannot allow ourselves to follow them down that road. In 1992, Texas businessman H. Ross Perot entered the presidential race in an attempt to steer our country away from what he warned was a dangerous economic road. He warned that our national deficit and increasing national debt were going to become destructive to our economy.
We should have listened to Perot then, but in the 2012 G.O.P. presidential primaries we have another candidate from Texas who is preaching much the same warning; Governor Rick Perry. Like Perot, Governor Perry is a straight-talking Texan who cares less for scoring political points than he does for fixing problems. Perry understands that fixing America’s economy means addressing the spending on so-called “entitlement programs”, which makes up over 2/3rds of our national economy. He was absolutely correct when he bluntly labeled Social Security a “Ponzi Scheme”. No less a social liberal than Mario Cuomo admitted in a debate with Newt Gingrich that “only a government could get away with running a program like Social Security” saying that it is a “con-game”.
It’s time we confront the economic challenges that we face in our country and “take our medicine”. We need to elect leadership at all levels of government that will honestly deal with the reality of our fiscal situation. We in Michigan are fortunate that, like most states, we have a constitutional “balanced-budget-requirement. That forces us to make tough decisions during tough economic times, and doesn’t allow us to “live on our credit cards” as the federal government has been doing. It won’t be easy, but “Tea Party principles” will return our nation to being the “land of liberty” that our forefathers intended it to be. But first, “We the people” must take charge, as our constitution intended for us to do.

When Barrack Hussein Obama was running for the highest office in the land, with virtually no experience or record to run on, many of us conservatives shouted the warning "This man is not a true American.
His "spiritual leader" Reverend Jeremiah Wright, ranted against this great country "NOT 'GOD BLESS AMERICA' ... GOD DAMN AMERICA"
Obama was frequently photographed standing without his hand over his heart during the National Anthem, or in some other pose of disrespect to our flag.
He travels the globe apoligizing for America's history, and his wife said during his campaign "for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country."
Now we see that those warnings from patriotic Americans like you and I were correct. This man was born to an alcoholic Kenyan father who abandoned his mother, raised by an Indonesian Muslim, and spent his teens living with his Hawiian grandparents, is not fit to lead this great country. He does not believe in American exceptionalism and does not love this country and honor those who have died protecting it, as we do !
As Americans continue to wake up and see how Obama is destroying America, he will surely be replaced in 2 years.

Brandenburg represents Tea Party principles !

Jack Brandenburg is talking to voters every day across the 11th Senate District, listening to their concerns, and preparing to take the fight to Lansing January 1st 2011. He has been at numerous Tea Party meetings and rallies because he shares their philosophy of "less government spending, lower taxes on businesses and families, and smaller government". He knows you cannot reduce taxes until you reduce the cost of government. And much of the cost of government is hidden in the medical and retirement benefits of government workers.

Government needs to be "reformed", not "expanded", and that's what Obama's health care plan did. It gave 30 million people health care coverage while doing nothing to reduce the costs. That's socialism, not reform. We need to send real reformers like Jack Brandenburg to Lansing and Washington, and return Socialists like Granholm and Obama to the countries they came from, if we can ever find out where that is !

48 days 'till the August 3 primary. We have about 6 1/2 weeks until we choose our nominees for the November election. This is undoubtedly one of the most important elections in recent memory. The last 2 election cycles were disastrous for the state and the country. We have watched as liberal groups like ACORN committed voter fraud on a massive scale, allowing the most liberal Senator in the U.S. Senate to move into the Oval Office. We can not stand by and "watch" this election, we need to become involved !

After suffering through 8 miserable years under the weak liberal "leadership" of Jennifer Granholm, it is time to come out in force and take back our state, and return the statehouse to the conservatives. Here in North Macomb County we can do our part by sending strong conservative Jack Brandenburg to Lansing to start cleaning up the mess that "Jenny from the block" and her liberal friends have made.

Let's face it, our state is in bad financial shape. We need to send some conservatives to Lansing that are not afraid to fight to cut government spending. Jack Brandenburg will do that as the next State Senator from Northern Macomb County ! Over the next 6 weeks, try to talk to 10 residents in Northern Macomb, and encourage them to "actively" support Brandenburg for state Senate. Let's leverage our influence, and campaign hard down the stretch by talking to as many Republican voters as possible and letting them know that Jack is out there working hard, and we need to send him to Lansing so he can go to work for us !

Naive American voters thought Barack Hussein Obama was an "agent of change", someone who would unite us and bring positive change. They were wrong ... terribly wrong ! Obama is a socialist who has divided us and is destroying the America our parents and grandparents fought and died to protect. He agreed with Mexican President Calderon when he stood on American soil and called Arizona's new law to enforce it's border "discrimination".

As a veteran, it sickens me to hear the President, our "commander-in-chief", apoligize for America's history. To see him bow to a Saudi King who is responsible for the spread of madrassa's that teach a violent, radical form of Islam is unforgivable.

But it is also unacceptable for people to continue to vote for politicians who support Obama's radical agenda. Each and every one of us needs to do our utmost to elect conservatives this fall to stop the destruction of our country. Please share this blog with as many people as you can. Thank You.

As we enter the summer of 2010, we will be entering a historic "summer of choice". I believe we are living in times that are no less critical to our nations future than the late 1700's when our founding fathers declared their independence from British rule, or the mid-1800's when our country fought a civil war over the institution of slavery.

We must now make a stand against the "liberal-socialists" who are attempting to hijack the greatest country on earth. Their "Svengali-like" leader, President Barack Hussein Obama, is leading the entranced American public down the path to becoming a doomed social-welfare state, like the failed democracies of Europe. Great Britain, Greece, France and Germany, and most of the West-European nations are drowning under a wave of debt and immigration. Obama welcomes both saying "We are no longer a Chistian nation", and telling us that the way to solve our economic problems is through borrowing and spending.

This insanity must stop, and we are the ones who have to stop it. There is no one who will come to save us, we must save ourselves. Just as our founding fathers acted to declare their independence from British rule, and the Republicans in the North fought and died to stop the spread of slavery, we must fight and stop the spread of socialism that threatens to destroy this country. The time is now, this is the place, and we are the people who must do it !

Standing up for principle -vs- being "politically correct".

Mike Cox attended the recent Gubernatorial Candidate Forum in St. Clair Shores, sponsored by the MEDEFCO Tea Party group, and hosted by WJR's Frank Beckman. I took the opportunity to highlite Cox's principled support for Prop. 2 in 2006, and contrast it with the "politically-correct" position taken by then U.S. Senate candidate Michael Bouchard. Bouchard and 2006 Gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos both publicly refused to support Prop.2, fearing that it would hurt them at the polls.

Well, they were on the wrong side of the issue; Prop. 2 was passed statewide 58%-42%, and 68%-32% in Macomb County ! Both Bouchard and DeVos were soundly defeated and arguably could have benefitted from standing up for banning racial preferences like Mike Cox did. Mike Cox was the top vote-getter in Macomb County in the 2006 election.
I don't think it was any coincidence that Mike was a strong supporter of MCRI/Prop. 2.

The following video shows me confronting Bouchard on the issue, and pointing out that Mike Cox is the only one of the 2010 candidates for Governor who supported Prop. 2/MCRI. Mike was a supporter of Prop. 2, not because it was politically popular to do so, or because it was "polling well" (it wasn't winning in most published polls right up to the day of the election ...) Attorney General Mike Cox stood up for banning Affirmative Action for the same reason I did, "It was the right thing to do..."
Kids should not be judged differently based on their race, they should be judged on their ability, accomplishments, and achievements, period.

Tea Party Express III coming to Macomb County !

We are very fortunate to have the Tea Party Express III coming to Macomb County ! After starting out in Searchlight Nevada to say "Adios" to the Tax & Spend Speaker Harry Reid, the Tea Party Express makes its way to Michigan for Five (Yes 5 !) rallies in sellout Bart Stupak's District in Northern Michigan District, then down the West side of the state and through Lansing before coming to Clinton Township in the home of the Reagan Democrats right here in Macomb County !

The local Tea Party group in St. Clair Shores, MEDEFCO, is hosting the event and we need to turn out as many people as possible ! This event will be covered by the national media, as well as local media including the Macomb Daily. Let's show Michigan and the rest the country that Macomb County is motivated ! Bottom line; Obama does not care that Americans reject his Socialist agenda. He is a "Svengali-like" Socialist who has hypnotized the voters into thinking he is concerned about them and is trying to help them. He is not. Obama's Socialist agenda is just that. He is intent on implementing his agenda, just like Stalin did in Russia and Fidel Castro did in Cuba. He claims to be "for the people", for the "common man", but we all know (well, most of us know ...) Socialism is a failure !

Thankfully, as the latest polls show, Americans are waking up from the "trance" that Obama has had them in. They are realizing that he is taking us down a road to Socializm, from which there is no return. The Tea Parties are on the "front-lines" warning the citizens of America to WAKE-UP ! We will see this movement grow and the resistance to Obama and his Socialist henchmen in the Congress will build until we storm to the polls in November to retake our government. Then we will turn our eyes on him, their "Dear Leader" and he will be unceremoniously removed from office after one disastrous term in 2012 !

Here's another fine example of why we need to clean house in Washington ! Can you believe voters in Georgia actually sent this knucklehead to Washington to represent them as their Congressman ? I can't ... I really can't.

And here in Detroit there are several Congressmen and women that are about as clueless, but will unfortunately probably be returned to Washington in November to represent the citizens of Detroit, unless the voters there finally wake up ! Voters need to fire the corrupt and clueless, and Congresswoman Kilpatrick and Congressman Conyers would be a good place to start. Why would you continue to elect fools and thieves ? It's sad !

No Government Takeover of Health Care !

President Obama's lying, manipulating, deal making and arm-twisting will continue right up until the "non-vote",(AKA "deem and pass") that his San Francisco liberal accomplice Nancy Pelosi is forcing through this weekend.

The obsession that Obama has with a government takeover of our healthcare system has blinded him and most Democrats. They lust for more government power and control. With Obama it is the obvious and now open desire for Socialized medicine in this country. He is willing to sacrifice Democrat lawmakers on the alter of socialized medicine and will stop at nothing to achieve it. He is within a couple of votes as he cuts deals and promises savings that most of us know very well, will not happen.

There is no way that the government can mandate health care insurance, expand it to 30 million people who do not currently have it, and reduce the cost at the same time.
Has anyone taken the time to look at how the government is doing managing Social Security ? It is projected to be broke in a few years. How about Medicare ? Going Broke. Medicaid ? Same story. And now Democrats want you to let them take over the entire health care system, 1/6th of our entire economy. Are we all crazy ? We need to send a strong message to these liars and thieves in November; Anyone who votes for this government takeover of healthcare MUST be voted out of office !
