Salmonberry Inn sits on a bluff above the Pacific in Lincoln City, where the coast feels wide open and quietly grounding. The wind moves through constantly. The light shifts by the minute. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t need much added to it—and that’s exactly what drew Taylor and Drew in.

They were married here last August, and from the start, the inn’s decor and overall vibe shaped the day. Thoughtful details. Warm interiors. A feeling that everything already belonged. Rather than trying to transform the space, they leaned into it, letting the location guide the rhythm and tone of their Salmonberry Inn wedding.

Many couples do choose to say their vows on the beach here, but having the ceremony tucked into the landscape of the inn created a different kind of energy. Portraits happened as we moved through the property and later down toward the beach, woven into the day instead of carved out as a separate event.

A Leach Botanical Garden Wedding Guide

If you’re dreaming of a garden wedding tucked into nature, Leach Botanical Garden might be your perfect place. Nestled in southeast Portland, this peaceful space feels like a hidden world all its own. It’s lush, serene, and full of quiet magic—just right for couples who want their day to feel intimate, grounded, and full of natural beauty.

A Garden with a Story

Long before it became a public sanctuary, this land was the heart of Sleepy Hollow—the cherished home of Lilla and John Leach.

In the early 1930s, the couple purchased just over four acres along Johnson Creek and built a quaint stone cabin on the south side of the property. This storybook cottage, with its terrazzo floor gifted by John to Lilla on their 50th anniversary, served as their peaceful retreat from city life. Even the slate roof carries a tale, crafted from leftover pieces from the Reed College library.

Lilla was a remarkable botanist. She and John spent many summers exploring remote mountain regions with their pack donkeys, Pansy and Violet. Their favorite place to botanize was the Curry County wilderness in southwest Oregon, where Lilla discovered five plant species previously unknown to western science. Her contributions earned national recognition, including the prestigious Eloise Payne Luquer bronze medal from the Garden Clubs of America.

John, a civic-minded pharmacist, shared her love for nature and beauty. The two of them worked closely with landscape designer Wilbert Davies to bring their vision of the garden to life. John and Wilbert’s original stonework still lines the paths and terraces of the historic grounds.

In 1936, Lilla and John built their home on the north side of the creek and began shaping the garden in earnest. Their love for native plants, thoughtful design, and each other continues to bloom in every corner of this place.

Leach Botanical Garden borders the Lents neighborhood, about 20 minutes from downtown Portland. It’s easily accessible but feels worlds away. The property spans 17.35 acres, with winding paths, old-growth trees, and curated gardens around every turn. There’s a sense of stillness and wonder here that sets the tone for a thoughtful and romantic celebration.

Perfect for Intimate Weddings

This venue works beautifully for both ceremonies and receptions, weddings and elopements. It’s best suited for small to mid-sized weddings with a maximum guest count of 80 people. The garden terrace is especially lovely for couples planning an outdoor ceremony with a deeper connection to the earth and seasons.

Ceremony and Reception Spaces

There are a few different spots to host your ceremony or reception within the garden. The East Terrace is a clean, whimsical space nestled at the forest’s edge—great for receptions or dancing under the stars. The South Side offers a more woodland feel, perfect for vows surrounded by trees and a stone cottage. The historic Manor House has timeless charm and can be used as a backdrop for portraits or smaller gatherings.

Getting Ready for the Day

While there isn’t a traditional large getting-ready suite onsite, many couples rent a nearby Airbnb or hotel to prep with their people, then arrive ready to slip into the quiet joy of the garden.

However, if you’re renting the Manor House and East Terrace for your full ceremony and reception, a private getting ready room is included inside the house. It’s a charming space with natural light—perfect for final touches and a quiet moment before stepping out into the celebration.

While the venue doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, there are plenty of local options nearby, from casual food trucks to farm-to-table dining. Couples can bring in a private caterer, set up a food truck, or even host a cozy family-style meal using the venue’s communal kitchen spaces. For a relaxed and intimate vibe, many couples opt for a picnic-style reception, beachside bonfire with s’mores, or a catered meal inside the pavillion.

One of our favorite food vendors in the area is the victorian Shelburne Hotel & Pub just down the street. They make my absolute favorite plate of fish and chips and their cocktails are amazing. For an intimate event, it would be the perfect place to visit for your wedding meal. For larger events I’d recommend coming here for your rehearsal dinner with a few close friends and family.

One of the most unique aspects of The Sou’Wester is its variety of accommodations. Guests can stay in restored vintage travel trailers, rustic cabins, or lodge suites, all designed to provide a cozy and nostalgic experience. Whether you opt for a reception under the Covered Arbor, which can fit 50 people seated, or on the East Terrace, which can fit 80, you’ll get to enjoy beautiful views of the abundant greenery and feel the gentle breeze that blows through the woods. It’s an absolutely stunning space to start your journey as a married couple, as the tranquil setting creates a really amazing place to reflect, connect, and create memories to last a lifetime. Open for weddings between the months of May-November, this garden is home to not only countless plant and tree species, but also a beautiful spring-fed lake that surrounds a large part of the area. On your way to Crystal Springs Lake you’ll find multiple picturesque waterfalls, bridges, and a fountain; truly a dream venue for any couple looking for plenty of space to explore throughout the day.

If you’re a Portland native, chances are you’ve been to Cathedral Park at some point—but have you ever considered it as a wedding venue? This riverfront park is home to iconic views of the Willamette River and the St. John’s bridge, and was named after its dramatic, cathedral-esque footings that tower over the grounds. With a rich history dating back to the early 1800’s, when the area was used as a fishing and camping site for local tribes, Cathedral Park offers an expansive and scenic spot for intimate weddings, featuring not only beautiful riverfront views but also a boat dock, picnic tables, and a spacious grassy area. It’s an ideal venue for any couple who doesn’t want to spend thousands of dollars renting a formal venue for an entire day, and would rather have a small ceremony out in nature, then potentially head into the city for a reception at a venue or restaurant. The Portland Parks & Recreation department does require you to obtain a permit in order to hold your legal ceremony at Cathedral Park, so be sure to read up on that information here.

Note: As of January 2024, the stairs & deck at Cathedral Park are unavailable for weddings in 2024, according to this PDF from the Portland Parks & Rec department. However, you can still reserve the amphitheater, which can fit up to 500 people.

Whether your dream wedding looks like an intimate & moody ceremony among a grove of massive redwoods and lush ferns, or possibly a bright & airy ceremony in a peaceful, grassy meadow, Hoyt Arboretum has so much to offer to engaged couples! A huge benefit to hosting your wedding at Hoyt Arboretum is that you won’t need to pay an outrageous fee for an all-day rental like you would at a traditional venue; the rental fees are significantly lower at the arboretum, even if you choose to have both your ceremony and your reception on the property. What’s even more amazing is that the rental proceeds support Hoyt Arboretum’s public programs and global tree collection, so you know that your money is going to an amazing cause.

The arboretum has four uniquely beautiful outdoor spaces to offer for weddings of up to 100 guests:

• Stevens Pavilion Picnic Shelter—an A-frame pavilion
• Redwood Deck—an open wooden platform that opens out into a redwood & sequoia grove

Houseplant lovers, unite (I know there are a lot of us in Portland)—I’ve got just the venue for you! Located inside of Pomarius Nursery, Blockhouse is a one-of-a-kind wedding venue in the heart of Portland’s Pearl District, brimming with lush greenery, lavish & modern decor, and all the romance & charm of a secluded garden. On its own, Blockhouse offers a furnished outdoor patio to use for wedding celebrations, but the star of the show is really the Pomarius Nursery Orangergie that you can add on to your event, which is a vibrant, natural-light-filled greenhouse venue.
