A 29-year-old Moroccan man was arrested Friday near the U.S. Capitol as he was planning to detonate what he thought was an explosives vest as part of a would-be suicide mission, police and government authorities said.

Amine El Khalifi of Alexandria, Va., was taken into custody with an inoperable gun and inert explosives given to him by undercover FBI agents as part of a long-running sting operation, the Associated Press reported:

The federal government is sending USDA officials to inspect for healthy meals being provided by the schools. But it doesn't stop there. Even lunches packed by parents and brought from home are being inspected to meet the USDA guidelines. The key word is "guidelines". Since when is a guideline MANDATORY!
If, as First Lady, she wants to promote healthy eating, I'm all for it. But mandating what parents pack their children for lunch?! This is fascistic. And having Michelle Obama telling us how we are to feed our kids is crap anyway. It's no secret that she goes out and hits the 1,700 calorie a meal burger and rib joints. Hey, more power to her if she wants to splurge. And, it's none of my business. Likewise, it's none of her, or any other bureaucrats', business what I pack my kids lunch box with. This creeping incrementalism by the government has got to be stopped!

North Carolina officials have said there was a misunderstanding when a preschooler’s homemade lunch was sent home for not meeting certain nutritional requirements, but now a second mother from the same school has come forward exclusively to The Blaze to say the same thing happened to her daughter.

Diane Zambrano says her 4-year-old daughter, Jazlyn, is in the same West Hoke Elementary School class as the little girl whose lunch gained national attention earlier this week. When Zambrano picked Jazlyn up from school late last month, she was told by Jazlyn’s teacher that the lunch she had packed that day did not meet the necessary guidelines and that Jazlyn had been sent to the cafeteria.

The media is all in a tizzy over a comment by Santorum Backer Foster Friess' comment, “Back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees and it wasn’t that costly.”

I've heard this, or variations on this with coins, for decades as parents have used it as a reminder to their daughters that if they don't let their legs come apart, they won't get pregnant. I've also heard of giving their daughter a quarter, so if a boy gets frisky, the girl can give him the quarter with the instruction to "Call my dad. If he is okay with it, then it's okay". Old fashioned? Yes. But worthy of creating a nuclear firestorm around Rick Santorum over something one of his supporters said?! Greta Van Susteren said he was creepy for making a failed attempt at humor. And Andrea Mitchell! You would have thought that Andrea Mitchell had taken a body blow from Mike Tyson, saying she needed to catch her breath, after hearing the remark. Oh, the horror!

Really? And then to go after Rick Santorum, as if he were the one who had made the remark. Yet back in 2008 when we had Barack Obama's pastor Jeremiah right screaming "Not God Bless America. God Damn America!", the media were accusing those who brought it up as racists, and excusing it by saying it by saying that it was a "guilt by association" game by Republicans. Same with Bill Ayres, the former leader of the Weather Underground, which committed terrorist acts against the United States and is a committed Marxist.

This whole thing is much ado about nothing and the media is turning it into two days of feigned outrage. The only thing that this is good for it that it gives one more example of the medias double standard when it comes to Republicans and Democrats, and gives us peek into the institutional bias that exists in today's media.

Chicago Teachers Union: 20% Smaller Classes, 30% Pay Raises

As Chicago and the state of Illinois sink deeper into the red, the Chicago Teachers Union is "negotiating" for a 30% pay increase for teachers over 2 years. The highest paid teacher in the state is currently making over $203,000. Under the unions demands, this teacher would then be making $264,100.20, more than some CEO's make.
Oh, and the projected deficit of the district schools is a reported $720 million.
Union President, Karen Lewis (who makes more than $300K in pay and benefits), stated: "We are not negotiating this in the public". Well you should be you arrogant, porcine jerk. Seeing as this is a "public" union, payed for with taxpayer dollars, my question is: why is this NOT being played out in public.
This is the problem with public unions. They, and government officials who receive political donations from these unions, sit around a table and negotiate how much of the taxpayers money is going to change hands, in the form of exorbitant salaries, and ridiculous benefits packages. Unlike unions who negotiate with private companies and private money, public unions are beholden to the taxpayers for their pay and benefits. They are negotiating against the taxpayers, with the taxpayers having no say in how much of their money is going to be confiscated from them in the form of property, local, and state taxes to pay for this crap.
Illinois taxpayers should raise holy hell about this outrage!

Congressional Republicans are now interested in examining Media Matters For America‘s tax-exempt status, The Daily Caller has learned. Doing so would cause the GOP to wade into the complex world of tax laws that govern “exempt organizations” such as Media Matters and more than 1 million other charitable organizations that are exempt from federal income tax.

Media Matters’ critics have questioned its tax-exempt status for some time. The Internal Revenue Service has a series of requirements that must be met before organizations can qualify. Successful applicants pay no federal income tax because the government presumes such charities perform services that benefit the public. Donors also may deduct their charitable contributions.

One central requirement before an organization like Media Matters can achieve the gold-standard nonprofit status — known by its place in the tax code, Section 501(c)(3) — is that it may not “attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities” or “participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.”

The foundation gave Media Matters the $50,000 “to support a Religious Broadcasting Project to expand the monitoring and fact checking of religious broadcasts,” according to its tax return that year.

When the "Arab Spring" broke out, leftists in the U.S. media and around the world hailed the riots in the Middle East and North Africa as "democracy movements. The were described as "organic" popular uprisings brought about by oppressive leaders, lest we confuse them with the "astro-turfers" of the Tea Party. The Obama Administration also cheered these events, first throwing Hosni Mubarak under the bus, and then Moammar Ghadaffi. Two scumbags, to be sure, but scumbags which could be kept in check.
To those who have been following this, we recognized this for what it was - a well-coordinated combination of leftists (Code Pink, CPUSA, & others), and Islamists (Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Hezbollah) creating anarchy in the streets of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and elsewhere. There were, of course, the typical useful idiots which became part of the protests. Liberal Christians in Egypt who worked in concert with the Muslim Brotherhood in the "hope" that things would improve. Of course it wouldn't, because the Brotherhood were only using these dolts to further their goals to gain power (which they have), and to begin instituting Sharia law as part of a greater Islamic Caliphate across the region. There have already been numerous attacks on Copt's and other Christians in Egypt and Libya, with burning of Churches and the killing of scores. This was easy to see coming as the Islamists in the region are emboldened and see Obama as weak and indecisive.
Funny how Obama, when given a choice, always makes the wrong one.

"Everybody who is out there back in 2009, if you look back what their estimates were in terms of how many jobs had been lost, how bad the economy had contracted when I took office, everybody underestimated it. People thought that the economy contracted 3%. It turns it retracted close to 9%. We lost 8 million jobs just in a year's span, about half a year before I took office and half a year after I took office. So, the die had been cast, but a lot of us didn't understand at that point how bad it was going to get. That increases the deficit because less tax revenues come in, and it means that more people are getting unemployment insurance, we're helping states more so they don't lay off teachers, etc."

His most laughable, or infuriating line is this: "The key though is we're setting ourselves on a path where we can get our debt under control." Really? Really?? Four year of TRILLION dollar-plus deficits, with the coming year projected to be even higher than last year. The lowest, LOWEST deficit under this President has been $1.2 trillion. This is nearly triple George W. Bush's highest deficit, for which King Barry called him "unpatriotic". Obama's policies have increased the overall debt in three years for which it took Bush eight years.

I would say that if $450B is unpatriotic, then four years of $1.2T-plus is downright treasonous.

How much freedom are we willing to voluntarily cede to the State? How much control are we willing to let the State have over our children? We already know that they are poisoning their minds with state-sponsored propaganda, masquerading as education. Now it seems that they have decided that they know better than parents what our children should eat, even going to the extreme of having some sort of food nazi inspecting home lunches to make sure that they are "nutritious" - at least as the government has determined. This would all be part of Marie Antoinette's, I mean Michelle Obama's, healthy lunches campaign. You know, they one where they put salad bars in all the schools? The one where they expect 5 year olds to choke down their carrots, broccoli, and lettuce. Really? What friggin' fantasy land are these people living in? What's going to happen is what happened with the girl in the story below: they're going to get the "healthy" food put on their tray, eat the chicken nuggets or the pizza slice, and throw the rest of it into the trash. The reason given is that that there are more children who are obese. That is only part of the problem. Children aren't allowed to play anymore. You don't see dodgeball and kickball during recess anymore. We've sissified recess. Kids aren't burning calories. But don't expect to see schools allow kids to play a game of "smear the queer" anytime in the future. No, we have boys out playing hopscotch.
This story is very instructive of the reasons why public school (which is one of those great ideas from the Communist Manifesto) is such a slippery slope. Because it is government funded, they get to make the rules (all government programs have strings attached). They get to determine the curriculum. They get to determine what your children eat. That is, unless you organize with other parents in your community to fight back. Go to school board meetings en masse to make your voices heard. Get local media involved. Distribute petitions.
We are losing more and more liberty everyday. The question is: how much more are you willing to lose before you start fighting back?

The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.

The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs — including in-home day care centers — to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.

When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones.

The girl’s mother — who said she wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter from retaliation — said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a “healthy lunch” would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $ 1.25.

“I don’t feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home,” the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative, Republican G.L. Pridgen of Robeson County.

On Tuesday Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House committee on Oversight and Government Reform, took a major step toward holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his failure to provide subpoenaed documents and other information about Operation Fast and Furious.

In a Jan. 31 letter, Issa had threatened Holder with such a move if he failed to provide all the subpoenaed documents relating to the Fast and Furious gunwalking scandal by Feb. 9. That deadline has come and gone, and Holder’s Department of Justice still hasn’t provided most of those documents. Issa’s subpoena dates back to Oct. 12, 2011.

In an accompanying story, a politically correct local news headline reported that the auditorium was cleared due to a "bounty on the speaker", omitting any reference to Islam. It is not until you get halfway down the page that it is revealed that the bounty is from "islamic terrorists" who have been ordered to "behead" Mr. Saleem.

An opinion letter in the Kalamazoo Gazette, via Public deserved to hear Kamal Saleem talk about Sharia law (letter) | MLive.com.

Part way through a presentation on Shariah law and its potential impact on America earlier this month, former Muslim Kamal Saleem along with an audience of several hundred people gathered at Allegan High School auditorium were asked to leave the grounds by the city’s chief of police.

Against vocal accusations of “violating free speech” and “the right of assembly,” Chief Rick Hoyer faced a crowd of upset tax-paying local citizens in the hallway and justified his actions of breaking up the gathering by citing his concern for the safety of other people and students in the building as he had heard there might be a $25 million reward on the head of the speaker.
