Brick Expo 2012 Announced

Brick Expo, Canberra’s annual LEGO® fan exhibition, will be back this year and at a bigger new venue. It’ll be over two days, 14 and 15 July 2012, at the Hellenic Club in Matilda St, Woden. Hours are 9:30am to 5:30pm.

All proceeds from the event go towards purchasing much needed medical equipment for Paediatrics at the Canberra Hospital.

Put the date in your diaries! Exhibitor applications will be opening soon.

Toys R Us: Star Wars sale disappointing for LEGO

Toys R Us are promoting Star Wars bargains with their latest catalogue, “A Galaxy of Savings“. Unfortunately the savings, on LEGO® at least, are more like a small meteor shower.

A few interesting things – there’s a discount of $20 on the Toys R Us “exclusive”, 9495 Gold Leader’s Y-Wing Starfighter. Plus there are two-for deals on the new LEGO Star Wars Planets (two for $25, RRP $15.99) and new Ninjago Spinners (two for $25, RRP $15.99).

First Sydney Brick Show Announced

I’ve just found out that the first ever Sydney Brick Show has been announced. Yes, fellow Sydneysiders, after years of envy of Brickvention and Brick Expo, a proper LEGO® fan convention is finally being launched in our town!

The Sydney Brick Show will be held at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, and will run over 2 days, on 2 & 3 June, 2012. There will also be an evening reception held on 2 June, with proceeds going to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. No word yet on how many days it will be open to the public for, or who is organising the event.

We are excited to announce that The Sydney Brick Show will held on 2-3 June at the Powerhouse Museum. We invite you to join us in displaying your creative genius at Sydney’s first LEGO® fan event in 2012. The new Sydney Brick Show will bring together the best in LEGO® fan conventions with a family fun showcase of AFOL creations.

The amazing two day event will include public viewing, interactive activities and a spectacular evening fan reception with competitions, guest speakers, everyone’s favorite “Dirty Brickster” and MORE! Proceeds from the Saturday night reception will be given to the Westmead Children’s Hospital for the inspirational work they perform everyday!

Exclusive Benefit Brickvention Evening

Next Saturday 21 January is your chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at this year’s massive Brickvention exhibit in Melbourne, while supporting kids with autism or Asperger’s. ASD Aid is a foundation for AFOLs who are dedicated to raising awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) in the community, and to harnessing the power of LEGO play to help children with ASDs communicate and grow.

This benefit event will launch ASD Aid’s LEGO Therapy Program, specifically for kids with autism or Asperger’s and their families. Famed Aussie builder Ryan McNaught will also be in attendance. Tickets are $20 and you can book online here.

As a parent of two kids with ASDs myself, it’s wonderful to see the Aussie AFOL community being so supportive and spreading the joy of LEGO®! Tickets are selling fast so make sure you get in quick.
