wednesday the hollands biggest fashion event began, called 'arnhem mode biennale'. and guess who's living there? we! the whole city is decorated in theme by the fashion biennale and there a lot of things to do in town, like exhibitions to workshops to photoshoots.

i did a workshop, done by peter stigter, holland's most famous photographer. the workshop was about streetstyle photography. in teams, each leaded by a photographer of peter stigter's team, we went in the streets to photograph people. it was very nice and i learned a lot. the only disadvantage was that we had to work together in different teams with people who had a different taste as me, wich ment i couldn't really do my own thing... here are some of the photos!

hello! remember us? it's been a long time! i don't know exactly why we didn't post for such a long time, because when we finally had some time, we got lazy. but this week we did! a few days ago i discovered this underground parking garage, which was very unusual and empty, so a good place for b&c! the plan was also to take pics in the parking places, but the battery of my camera kind of died... so maybe we have to go there again!

hmmmm just enjoying these four free days, finally a weekend without any school work! now we realise this could be one of the last relaxing days, after the holidays because we now have another 2 months of struggling to get to the fourth class...
the best way to end finals week is with great weather! we headed to the rijn river, we felt like we were at the beacht there, delicous!

Lately i've been mailing with Siri from Ringo, have a banana! and we came up with the idea to do an interview. She's great and her blog is very inspiring and you should totally check her out here! so if you've got a spare 3 minutes, read this and get inspired by Siri and Ringo!

- Why should Ringo have a banana?
Hahaha, that is a great question that no one has ever asked me. The line itself is actually a quote from some banter on the Beatles' album "Live at the BBC". I was completely obsessed with the Beatles when I was a kid, and my friends and I used to sit around the kitchen table playing cards and listening to Rubber Soul on repeat. So in answer to your question, Ringo should have a banana because John told him to (and Johnny knows best!)

- Could you tell us a little bit about yourself and where you live?
Certainly! At the moment, I'm 25 and I live in Brooklyn, NY. I moved to New York almost four years ago to finish up school, which I finally managed about a year ago. Since then, I've been working freelance as a journalist and a stylist's assistant, which continues to be a tough and unpredictable way to try and make a living. Before moving east, I grew up in the San Juan Islands of Washington State, and later moved to California to start my education at UCSC. I will always, always be a West Coast girl at heart, and it constantly pains me that I'm not able to get home to visit more often. That said, I am very glad that I moved to New York when I did. I know it was the right decision at the time, but honestly I do find myself feeling a bit restless and morose here. I keep myself distracted by going to the farmer's market, taking photos with my old Canon SLR, trying out the amazing restaurants that are always popping up, watching amazing old movies at Film Forum and, of course, reading copious amounts of blogs.

-When and how did you get involved with the fashion scene?
I started my blog about four years ago now. I was living and working in Santa Cruz, CA, having dropped out of school for the time being. Everyone around me was busy going to school, and I began feeling very isolated and lonely. I started posting to groups like wardrobe_remix on Flickr and newestwrinkle on LiveJournal, which is where I got to know many of the ladies who now run some of my favorite blogs, and which is what lead me to start my own blog. Otherwise, my very first article was published in print in BUST Magazine back in the beginning of 2008. I will always be endlessly grateful to editor Lisa Butterworth for believing in me and giving me my break!

-If you had to describe your style in 5 words, what would they be?
Simple, casual, comfortable, thoughtful and frugal.

-Who are your favourite designers?
I'm always excited to see what Hannah MacGibbon and Stella McCartney have dreamed up each season. I also really admire Shabd Simon-Alexander and the designers behind Upstate, the dying processes they use to create their fabrics fascinate me.

- What are your summer must-haves?
Jean shorts! The first day of the year I get to wear my cut-offs outside, all day, is my favorite day of the year. Also this summer I expect to be wearing a lot of slightly cropped cotton tees and tanks by American Apparel and Leah Goren, and simple leather sandals--the fewer straps and less fuss, the better. I'm also still searching for the perfect straw hat that doesn't make me look, or feel, like a fool!

- If you had half a hour to shop for free, in which store would it be?
Ack that is hard! If it could be an online store, definitely LaGarconne.com. Otherwise maybe the No.6 store in Nolita, or Junk in Williamsburg so I could finally have all the old overpriced furniture I've ever wanted!

- Wich blogs do you follow? And do you read any magazines?
I follow quite a lot of blogs. Just a few of my favorites at the moment:
Fieldguided, Miss Moss, Youthquakers, Cat Party, So Much to Tell You, Capture the Castle, Tomboy Style.
My favorite magazines include RUSSH, The Gentlewoman, Apartamento, The World of Interiors, and Saveur.

- What inspires you?
Movies have always been a huge inspiration--in fact, my college degree is in Film Studies. I often find myself favoring movies that look great, especially older ones that have those certain soft, warm tones and great outfits over those with great plots, which is terribly embarrassing for a film student haha. Of course, if a movie happens to blend both those traits then it's a great find! Two of my recent favorites are David Lean's "Summertime" and Louis Malle's "Murmur of the Heart". I also love the streetstyle shots on Street Peeper--photographer Phil Oh definitely knows my taste!

- What can't you live without?
Chocolate. It's so cliche but it's true. Every time I tell myself I'm cutting out sugar or some crap, I make it maybe a week and then completely fall off the wagon and eat an entire bar of dark chocolate with almonds and sea salt (my fave!) in one sitting. Also, fresh flowers. Well, maybe I could, but I wouldn't want to.

- What's on your iPod / bookshelf / DVD-player at the moment?
iPod: I've actually been listening to the radio on iTunes a lot lately. My favorite stations are "Hindi Desi Bollywood Evergreen" (classic Bollywood tunes and ragas), KLUV Oldies (the greatest hits from 1955-1964 ONLY) and the CBC.
Bookshelf: I've just finished reading "Norwegian Wood" by Murakami. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did I was completely hooked. I hated the very end though--well, really, just the last paragraph!
DVD player: I've been watching a lot of period pieces lately, like Merchant-Ivory's "Howard's End" and Gillian Armstrong's "My Brilliant Career".

a random picture we took a looooong time ago. it's so bad, but i can't even remember wearing this.
these past days have been pretty busy... with studying. this friday we have testweek untill thursday. so we haven't had any time at all to do something for the blog. apoligies, apoligies, apoligies. in, i think, two weeks we'll have vacation and we both are not going anywhere so that means loads of fun and relaxation!
today is my moms birthday, and for that reason we are going to this new sushi restaurant tonight so that's exciting! here in holland it's so expensive, that it's really a treat to go out for some sushi.

1. my new vintage fur bag wich i bought in antwerp, and nylon magazine. 2 me in front of this very non-brieetchar-esque wall, wich i thought was pretty neat, a bit scary though. 3 my new rings. the pink one kind of reminds me of this mania mania ring, but then a smaller and way more affordable version. the indian ring is just hilarious. 4 me walking around in antwerp. 5 two of my new shirts; the flower one is vintage, and the other one is american apparel.

tomorrow i have to go back to school again. too bad but that's just life i guess. i hope everyone had a real good weekend! x brie

the vacation is great. i love doing nothing all day, and once in a while going out. today char and i + a girly friend went shopping. not much to buy though, because tomorrow i'm going to antwerpppp!!! woopsiedaisy i can't wait, i've never been there before. i found about thirty shops to go to via internet, so i don't think i can visit them all (too little time/money...) but if anybody knows any nice tips for me they sure are welcome!

now everyone's vacation in holland is (almost) over, our vacation just started.

the first day we began with a 'photoshoot', or well we took some photos by the river called 'rijn'. we took lots of clothes with us so we can make more posts then just one. eventually we stood in our underwear 'cause we had to change clothes, and i can tell you, that was cold! but if we forget the coldness and the mud (yes, all our good shoes were under), it was pretty fun though.

so, that was our first day, but i'm going to do some more fun things. for example, tuesday i have a photoshoot with a good friend of mine with a photographer on a roof and probably we have to wear
isabel marant, nice, nice! and on thursday i'm going to amsterdam, shopping!

yeeeeeh, it's allmost vacation! in three days we will be free! aaah can't wait.
after the vacation, i (brie) am going on an exchange trip to england! YEAAAAH. my first time ever over there. i'm pretty excited. i do have a little problem though, and was thinking maybe you could help me? should i spend my money in the vacation when i'm going to amsterdam/antwerp (monki, american apparel), OR should i wait till the end of the month and spend my money in england (UOutfitters, topshop)?

finally weekend! and after a friday like this we need it! today we had sportday and after that we had to go to school till 4, how they infent it?! and what a nasty people we have on our school i realised at sportday, seriously there was a bitchfight going on! well, let's forget our stupid day. probably tomorrow we're going to work on a new header, cause what we have right now is a little boring.. and hopefully the weather will be good this weekend, so we can go to the hei to take looots of pictures!

have i ever mentioned how important it is that your clothes are comfy? i never really really payed that much attention to it, but heck, after this sweater i certainly do! just a great sweater with small, pretty details. perfectly suited for some couch-lounging or perhaps a day at school, going to the city, i could go on and on and on about it!
andddd i want to give somebody my appreciation! my dear blogger bestie char, for always making those pictures look so fabulous. i really don't understand how you can do this and come up with these original ideas.

today we went to the swimming pool, not to swim but to take some photos. haha, exactly a very weird place to take photos and we thought we didn't get in there, but i think it's pretty cool and the owner just let us in! although it was brie's idea!

this week will be hell. it's test-week. the only positive thing about that is that schools out at 12 every day, so char and i will have lot's of time for pictures!
last week there was a super sale in our favourite store, humanoid, and we both shopped till we dropped. beautifull things for less, that's definately what we like! the grey will be gone again, and the sun will peek out of the clouds! good things to come for sure!

so, the third post this week, aren't we good?! it's because the weather was so nice, especially the day we took these photos. my outfit is quite simple (as always), but i need some more clothes at this point, actually at any point, but okay. so wednesday we went to the superduper, a veeery nice vintagestore in our hometown and we just had to buy something and we did! we only bought one thing, but okay we have something new though! and omg, the humanoid superstocksale is next week!! it couldn't be at a beter moment!

when we made these pictures the sun was shining and the weather was good, but when we left school........ omg you will not believe it! it felt like swimming in the swimming pool with clothes on. i discovered this very cute new vintage shop so we went in there leaking all the way and the whole floor got dirty, oops... but then it got sunny again and we were happy ;). andddd we saw the cutest cat ever, with a pink collar, while having a free hour at school. SO CUHUHUTE.
