OCEAN CITY – Alexis Harris ended her high school basketball career with a bang - and took it to the bank with one memorable buzzer-beating three-point shot - to lead Team Baruffi to a 65-46 win over Team Douglass in the Just 4 Wheels Girls Classic at Prime Events All Star Saturday.

Harris, a senior from Atlantic City High School, scored a game-high 20 points, including four field goals from well beyond the arc, and flashed the kind of play-making and ball-handling skills that should serve her well as she continues her basketball career at Palm Beach State, a Division I junior college in South Florida.

"This is really just the beginning for me," said Harris. "It's sad (that her high school career is over), but I'm just glad that I got to be known as one of the best in the area through high school. I just love everything about the game."

Some 46 percent of children screened had acuity worse than 20/50 that was previously undetected and untreated. This project was conducted in November 2010 with 2,700 children screened. Acuity of 20/50 is the largest print allowed for the New Jersey driver's license test.

This year the island will see a distinctive new event when the inaugural Brigantine Beach Blues, Brews and Barbecue Festival comes to town Sept. 19.

Presented by the Brigantine Blues Foundation, the festival will be structured similarly to larger music events such as the Monterey Jazz Festival and New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, according to promoters. However, unlike those festivals, Brigantine has the advantage of providing this music experience on a beach venue.

There is a proposal that should come before the general membership of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association that would change the way high school football is structured in the state.

The most interesting - some would say most necessary - change would create a parochial-only football league to start in 2016.

If approved, St. Joseph, St. Augustine Prep and Holy Spirit would leave the Cape-Atlantic League for football. Public schools could still play parochial schools in non-league games, but public schools would no longer have to keep getting hammered in league play by non-public schools that can recruit and draw players from throughout the region. Holy Spirit, St. Joe and St. Augustine are a combined 59-10 against CAL public schools the past three seasons.

Prime Events All Star Saturday will be held at Ocean City High School on Saturday with the best seniors from the Cape-Atlantic League facing off in the final two basketball games of four that celebrate the present and future of the CAL.

The two high school games, starting at 4:30 p.m., will match the best CAL seniors. Because the CAL is aligned into three conferences, the all star teams were drafted based on the all star voting of the league’s coaches.
