Coast Guard Auxiliary to conduct free vessel safety checks

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Brigantine Flotilla 85, will be conducting recreational vessel safety checks City from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 2 at Farley State Marina, 600 Huron Ave. in Atlantic City.

Teri Gragg receives Outstanding Educator Award

Brigantine Elementary teacher Teri Gragg was awarded by the Epicurean Society’s 2012 Southern New Jersey Outstanding Educator Recognition Award this past Wednesday night. The award is a $1,500 grant to be used for the purpose of obtaining supplies, equipment or purchasing student incentives.

Gragg was nominated for the award by Elementary School Principal Don Marrandino. Part of the nomination states, “In 50 years as an educator, I have not seen any educator who has had a greater impact on children, the school, the community and international schools than Mrs. Gragg.”

Atlantic Club Casino adopts Marine Mammal Stranding Center

Brigantine’s nationally known Marine Mammal Stranding Center recently received some good news. The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel has adopted the it – good news as the center has been threatened with a significant loss of funding from the federal government. Atlantic Club has committed to help generate awareness and funds to support thee mission and efforts.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Brigantine Flotilla 85, will be conducting recreational vessel safety checks on Saturday, June 2, at Farley State Marina, 600 Huron Ave., Atlantic City from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The marina is located adjacent to the Golden Nugget Casino. Rain date will be June 3. No appointment is necessary.

The Brigantine Elks 2428 presented “Under the Sea” Fashion Show and Champagne Brunch, on Sunday, May 20. Fashions were by Lilli Rose, Primal Surf, Root Beer Barrel, Brigantine Beach Gift Shop and accessories from Bloomingsales.

Manager draws big crowd to Lion meeting

Brigantine City Manager Jennifer Blumenthal was the guest speaker at the Brigantine Lions Dinner Meeting, held on May 21 at St. George's Pub. Lion President Steve Satz presents Blumenthal with a Certificate of Appreciation for her presentation. The club had one of its largest turnouts of the year to meet and hear the city manager.

Fishing’s as good as it gets for the holiday

Cathy Crossland of Bayside Marina reported that fishing can't get any better for this Memorial Day Weekend. In the surf, there are stripers, drum, and kingfish as well as those pesky skates and sharks. Big flounder and stripers have been all over in the back around Broad Creek, Eagle Bay and Mankiller. They are hungry, eating anything including Berkley Gulp, minnows, squid, strips of mackerel and spearing. Crossland has fresh, large spearing in now and hopes to keep them coming. She also has her famous fresh hand-cut squid again this year. Smelly for her to work with, she said, but it catches fish - it's that crab smelly jelly she uses for a marinade.
