My mouse still couldn’t be used. Then I tried my Targus Bluetooth Presenter but it couldn’t work either.

I was convinced that it was problem my MacBook’s bluetooth. And I was right. My bluetooth is not found in System Profiler.

Restarting the MacBook didn’t resolve the problem either. After browsing for a while, I found out that it’s a common Mac problem. And here’s how to fix it: Reset the System Management Controller (SMC), and you can read the instruction here.

One of WordPress blog gave me this error message when I tried to installed and activated a new plugin: File is writable by others, please fix permissions and try again.

Activation or deactivation of the already installed plugins doesn’t generate this error message. It only happens whenever I tried to install or activate new plugins.

I currently use WordPress 2.7.1 and it was installed using cPanel and automatically upgraded using WordPress Automatic Upgrade like my other WordPress blogs. So there’s nothing different here.

The problem is obviously file permission. But which one?

I changed the permission my wp-content/plugins to 755 and 644 but I still get the same error message.

Finally after testing by changing the file permission one-by-one, I was able to resolve the problem. I’m not sure yet if it’s a permanent solution, but for now I’m able to install and activate new WordPress plugins.

Just in case you happen to experience the same problem, here’s the solution that I use.

Caveat: I haven’t done thorough testing so use it at your own risk.

Change the permission of these following files to 644:

  • wp-admin/edit.php

  • wp-admin/tools.php

  • wp-admin/plugins.php

  • wp-admin/plugin-install.php

]]> 3 Aldian Prakoso http://aldianprakoso.com <![CDATA[How To Connect Huawei E220 Mac]]> http://aldianprakoso.com/?p=205 2009-03-12T05:44:46Z 2009-03-12T05:41:21Z It a bit frustrates me when a few of my peripherals (such as printer, scanner, and 3G modem) can’t connect automatically with my MacBook.

After searching Google thoroughly I found many scatter information to configure and connect my Huawei E220 3G modem on my MacBook.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Download the Huawei E220 Mac driver.
    It consists of 2 files: Huawei Data Card Application, and the driver itself (the driver is for Leopard).
  • Install the driver and follow its instruction
  • Plug your Huawei E220 into your Mac
  • Run the Huawei Data Card Application and set your APN (Access Point Name). You can ask your ISP for the APN.
  • Create the connection on your Mac:
    1. System Preferences > Network
    2. Click + to create new service. It opens a drop down menu then choose Huawei Modem from the Interface.
    3. Telephone Number: *99#
    4. Account Name: your account name (leave it blank if your ISP doesn’t require it)
    5. Password: your account password (leave it blank if your ISP doesn’t require it)
    6. Click Advance
    7. Vendor: Other
    8. Model: Huawei Mobile Connect – 3G Modem
    9. Check the Enable error correction and compression in modem
    10. Dial mode: Ignore dial tone when dialing
    11. Click the PPP tab
    12. Settings: Configuration
    13. Uncheck the Send PPP echo packets

I was able to connect using these steps on the first try :)

So yesterday I bought myself the new aluminum MacBook along with the cordless Mighty Mouse :)

I must admit that it was not an easy decision. After all I’ve been using Windows for almost half of myself and the price tag of the MacBook is about 3 times of Dell Inspiron notebook. I browsed many Mac forum and asking questions, and also asked my friends who got the enlightenment (moved from Windows to Mac).

Before making my ultimate decision, I did research if there’s the Mac version (or at least the alternative) for my frequently used programs such as Camtasia, SnagIt, ActiveSync, WinRAR, and so on, including how to export all of my data safely to Mac. Yes, I got my ThunderBird mailboxes and FireFox bookmarks intact on my new Mac! :)

And my first impression on my new MacBook and Mac OS X: they’re impressive and very easy to use!

  • Switching from one program to another is so easy using Expose. It’s much much better than Windows Alt Tab!

  • I can have a few desktops for working space using Spaces.

  • Uninstalling programs is so easy… just by moving it to trash bin that it scares me that I may accidentally uninstall my programs.

So I can say that this moving from Windows to Mac is one of my greatest decision!
