Blogfest 2012 Kravet Tour

My favorite day of Blogfest 2012 was the Kravet Studio Tour. We got a behind the scenes glimpse into the world of fabric design, product development and showroom merchandising for three of the industry’s most respected brands: Kravet, Lee Jofa and Brunschwig & Fils. Doug Garfinkle, EVP Showroom Merchandising, was our tour guide, and I must say that he was the best! Thank you Doug, seen here in the Lee Jofa showroom.

The amount of time and detail that goes into the finished product is overwhelming. From the artwork to the printing, fabric design and development is a fascinating process. Seen here is Tony Amplo, director of Print Textile Studio, and a fabric designed for the White House, Lincoln Sitting Room.

We got to see the Press Room where the editors and magazine photographers come to see the newest products. Kravet Inc. realizes the importance of social media and embraces technology as an avenue to elevate the world of design to new heights. Beth Greene, EVP of Marketing and Strategic Branding, was telling us that there are around 24,000 Kravet fabrics that can be searched. In a couple of weeks, kravet.com will have a new, user-friendly way to search. You will be able to search by color, etc. For the Interior Design trade, you will be able to make “favorites” folders and name them by specific clients.

Kravet Trimmings can add the finishing touch to any upholstered piece or window decoration. I enjoyed hearing Lisa Wilkie, Director of Trimmings, speak about working with all three brands: Kravet, Lee Jofa and Brunschwig & Fils. She also has the best corner office tucked away with an amazing view too!

The Brunschwig & Fils studio was bright bold and beautiful to say the least. David Toback, Director of Product Development Brunschwig & Fils, is such a wonderful speaker, he needs to be in PR. It is obvious that is passionate about his job. I would be too. How fun!

I was extremely interested in hearing Nina Behan, Carpet Product Development. Kravet has some exciting news about a new product line with Jonathan Adler coming soon! You will love the designs. They are completely in tune with Jonathan Adler and his signature fun circles and shapes.

And we heard it straight from the source, pastels are going to be huge. Get ready for fresh, light and airy pastel colors. I am excited about that!

Just look at the rich colors and beautiful textures of these Kravet woven fabrics. Wow! I could have stayed there all day. What a treat! Thank you to everyone who helped make this Kravet tour of Blogfest 2012 such a memorable and extraordinary event. We all learned so much from you.

Kips Bay Decorator Show House

We joined Architectural Digest Editor in Chief Margaret Russell at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House for the Kickoff of Blogfest2012. We had the best time meeting most of the room designers as well as blogger friends. It was a wonderful way to start the event. If you have the chance to visit the Kips Bay Showhouse this year, I highly recommend it! I loved the Study by Brian del Toro. Everything from the paneled walls and the blue and emerald green jewel tones, to the Japanese panel topped coffee table blended together perfectly.

In Alexa Hampton‘s bedroom, the canopy features her Kravet fabric she designed called Meadowmere. I could live in this absolutely luxurious room. It’s peaceful and calming.

The sunny Family Room by James Rixner is cheerful and delightful, youthful and sophisticated. I am loving the abstract art in blues against the silver lamp and lime colored walls and accent pillows.

I took notice of the amazing abstract art choices each designer picked as in the study by David Scott Interiors.

And the highlight of the evening for me was meeting the incredibly glamorous and talented Margaret Russell. What a treat!

About the History of Kips Bay

Every year, celebrated interior designers transform a luxury Manhattan home into an elegant exhibition of fine furnishings, art, and technology. The event began in 1973 when several dedicated women’s committee members of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club launched the Decorator Show House to raise funds for much needed after school and enrichment programs for New York City children. Over the course of four decades, this project has raised in excess of $17 million and grown into a “must destination” for thousands of design enthusiasts and is recognized for launching interior design trends throughout the world. Today, the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club is one of the most prominent and responsive youth development agencies in New York City and a “flagship” of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The Show House will be open on Memorial Day 11am to 5pm

Rollout

We attended ICFF {the 25th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair} which is North America’s premier showcase for contemporary design. One of my favorite exhibits was Rollout, a custom wallpaper company based in Canada. The New York City street maps and taxi cabs are so cool. They will work with you to customize one of your own designs as well. What print do you think will make fun wallpaper? Is that something that you would be interested in? Eataly NYC

While in New York for Blogfest2012, we did have some free time to explore on our own. We ate lunch at Eataly NYC {200 5th Avenue} the first day we were there. I could eat breakfast, lunch and dinner there every day. The food is prepared fresh right before your eyes, and the menu is unlimited. I love Eataly‘s manifesto, “Food Unites Us All. Good food brings all of us together, and helps us find a common point of view. We believe that one of the greatest sources of joy is what happens around a dinner table.”

“Our goal is to have you as our customer for a lifetime. The easiest means to that end is offering the best food and drink as well as the best environment in which to discover and expand your tastes.”

The Kravet Family

The highlight of Blogfest2012 for me was meeting the Kravet family. Kravet, a 4th generation family owned company, is today’s global leader in home furnishings. On the 1st day of this memorable design conference, hosted by Kravet, we had the pleasure of hearing Newell Turner, Editor in Chief of House Beautiful, speak to us about creating the “a-ha” moment for the magazine. Not only is Newell Turner a fabulous public speaker, but he is also very approachable and inviting with a sense of humor. Newell instantly made us feel welcome as he engaged us to become part of the event. As he spoke, he urged us bloggers to think about our “a-ha” moment. After having a chance to reflect on everything we learned, I thought about my ”a-ha” moment. For me, the Kravet family, and the extended Kravet family of loyal employees and partners taught me the most. They are passionate about what they do. No matter what your field, I believe that if you surround yourself with energetic, creative, and ambitious people who have a passion for what they do, you will be a happier and more fulfilled person in your own life.

Everyone we met thoughout Blogfest2012 made us feel welcome. Their smiles and humor were contagious. It was refreshing and just plain awesome! I was honored to meet Cary Kravet, President of Kravet, Inc., a charming and charismatic person to be around. I also chatted with Ellen Kravet who spoke about her loving family and how they have always been close personally and professionally.

I could go on and on about Beth Greene, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Branding. She is talented, funny, stunningly gorgeous and a pure delight to be around. Also, Blogfest2012 would not have run along schedule without the amazing Ann Feldstein {Senior Director of Marketing and Communications} and Jennifer Powell {Social Media Coordinator}. All three women kept us organized and moving along each step of the way. To the Kravet family, I thank you. You are truly an inspiration and I look forward to seeing you next year for Blogfest2013! Headed Home

Hearst Magazines

Hearst Magazines is one of the world’s largest publishers of monthly magazines, including Elle Decor, House Beautiful and Veranda. We had the pleasure of listening to Newell Turner {Editor and Chief of House Beautiful } ,and Dara Caponigro {Editor in Chief of Veranda} speak along with others and at the top of the Hearst Tower. I will be going into more detail about each day when I return home. For now, we are trying to listen and take everything in. Stay tuned.

On top of everything we are learning at Blogfest2012, we are also having so so much fun chatting and networking with our blogging friends. I am thrilled to have met my friend Erika from Radiant Republic. Not only is she an extremely talented blogger, but she is as sweet on the inside as she is on the outside.

Once the fog lifted this morning, this was our view form the 44th floor of the Hearst Tower.

Having way too much fun at Blogfest2012 today! It is thrilling for me to meet so many bloggers I have known for so many years {in the blogosphere that is!}. Flatiron Hotel

We arrived in New York City last night and stayed in the brand new and very chic Flatiron Hotel. I am rooming with my great friends Kirsten Nease from Richmond and Lisa Mende from Charlotte. We are having the best time and catching up with each other! Located at 9 West 26th Street, the Flatiron is steps from trendy Chelsea shops and cafes and Flatiron District landmarks. The Flatiron Hotel is perfectly situated in the who’s who of hip New York neighborhoods. Also within walking distance are the Theatre District, Empire State Building, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and famous Midtown attractions. The Empire State Building is .2 miles away. We ate at a fabulous Mexican restaurant called Dos Caminos located on Park Avenue between 26th and 27th Streets. Then back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep in preparation for an amazing 3 day event at Blogfest2012. The Flatiron lobby is complete with a 2 story fish tank in the center with the beautiful staircase wrapped around it.
