Oh yeah! What's that you spy? Only the freakin' weekend! After a busy week packed with meetings and events in the city, I'm dreaming of a weekend filled with the simple things life can offer. I'd be very happy to start my day in this colourful country kitchen, coffee brewing and a leisurely breakfast enjoyed to the sound of birds tweeting as a light spring breeze fills the space. That would be kinda alright, wouldn't it?! Anyway, back to reality...! As pastels are proving popular both on and off the catwalk, I decided to whip together some inspiration on how to decorate with delicate hues for my latest feature inside Sweet Paul magazine. Flea Market Chic isn't just an inspirational coffee table book. Oh no! It goes way beyond pretty pictures, giving the reader accessible and useful ideas on how to add texture, colour and depth to modern spaces with flea-market finds. In her introduction, Liz Bauwens writes about how what flea markets are selling has changed. With 19th and early 20th century pieces becoming increasingly harder to find, with space being taken up with mid-to-late 20th century furniture and accessories. Once you begin to turn the pages you see how Bauwens has illustrated this through a well-edited selection of real family homes. Each space shows you how flea-market finds have been mixed in with purchases from big box stores. Also included are tips on where to look for certain items and how to negotiate when buying them (so useful!). Personally, I love how flea-market pieces let you create a home that reflects your life and personality; these pieces become interesting talking points in your home as each 'find' comes with a story attached. It's fun to read where home owners found pieces, so I've shared the spaces from the Flea Market Chic that caught my eye. The white and turquoise summerhouse? 100% dreamy, I know. Mr. Bazaar's Colourful View of Amsterdam

From the moment I stepped foot off the train I was charmed by the colourful building facades I saw across the city. Add in the ever-present rumble of the trams passing below and then you really know you’re in Amsterdam. It’s a great city to visit with loose plans; enjoy taking the time to aimlessly stroll the tree lined canal banks, popping in and out of small, independent boutiques as you do. Earlier this month I was in the city for two days to shoot my inspirations for Eurostar's photo campaign across London Underground screens. I tried to capture something beyond the cliched shots of the canals, focusing on my main love - colour!

Possibly one of the best city hotels I’ve ever stayed in, the citizenM city hotel in Amsterdam is decked out in colourful designer furniture from Vitra, including my favourite Hang It All Coat Rack - luxury on a budget! You can shop the citizenM look over on Nest as they stock pretty much everything I saw in the hotel.

Café George has perfected the balance between feeling fancy not pompous, and welcoming not scruffy. Go for brunch on a lazy Sunday morning to pick something tasty from their striking, typographical menus.

A veritable feast of colourful home and cookware, Kitsch Kitchen is the ideal place to pick up a fun yet practical memento from your trip. Their in-store mural is a must see for colour inspiration! I picked up a pair of sweet little yellow and white ceramics (seen above).

This Italian restaurant and cocktail bar in the heart of the city has a relaxed yet cosmopolitan vibe. Flavours are just as they should be - simple and bold; the interior is an atmospheric, theatrical treat.

The ideal store to stock up on some interior style, Nordic New is an inspiring stop to add to your itinerary for ideas on introducing bright colour accents to your home through lighting and furniture.

Raw Materials is like an Aladdin’s Cave for any vintage maven. Expect to find rustic industrial homewares, vintage signs and packaging and weathered textures a plenty. (Pssst! There I am in action shooting these very snaps!)

Zara Home Spring/Summer 2012 Collections

Ah, I do love this time of year. Why? Well, as March arrives I know that spring is within touching distance. The crocuses and daffodils spring up from the ground in abundance, while each day feels a little warmer, a little lighter. Whatsmore, March is the month we see many stores start to fill up with their spring/summer offerings. Zara Home are doing just that, with their latest collections filtering in at present. I've rounded up their products into two themes - Graphic Nautical and Feminine Brights. Graphic Nautical is all about bold navy patterns set against crisp white base hues. There's the occasional pop of red (which works wonders for this year's Jubilee!) but the main elements of this look - the white and blue duo - spans across their living room, bathroom and bedroom categories. The second, Feminine Brights, offers us a very different look, one that's awash with soft pink, washed-out orange, silky jade green and light saffron yellow shades. Notice how they've styled the colourful tableware cabinet in the relaxed, effortless way I wrote about last week? I think it looks fantastic! That said, I'm also drawn to the stripes, blue hues and natural, tactile textures of the nautical-inspired pieces. Which look is flirting with your interior eye, friends?

Happy Weekend: Organise Your Tableware

I often find time on the weekend for a little kitchen tidy up and this weekend will be no different, especially as I'm planning on baking tomorrow. As I thought about making my tablewares more accessible, I happened upon these candy coloured units stocked with an array of cheerful tableware from Rice. I started to think about displaying tableware and ways to make it look stylish yet natural, relaxed instead of untidy. My advice would be to avoid stacking everything in perfectly neat pyramids as this can create a stuffy, somewhat forced look. Sure, you'll want one or two pyramid stacks but I'd recommend creating them with items that coordinate particularly well, as these brief occurrences of perfect stacking and neatness will be what grounds the collection visually. Then, amongst these pyramid stacks, mix in other pieces of all shapes, sizes and colours to break up the linearity of the tableware. By keeping a few items in neat stacks and the other pieces stored more 'loosely', your collection will look effortlessly stylish and laid back. How do you store your tableware? Tablescape 101: Spring Brunch (Yellow & Pink)

Blossoms are no longer a distant memory and the first baby lambs are beginning to arrive. Yes, as each day passes we step closer to spring and all of the hope, opportunity and energy associated with the season's longer days. In mind of this Manvi and I wanted to pull together inspiration for a Spring Brunch - think washed-out ombre shades of primrose, lemon and fuchsia against crisp white. Here's Manvi with more of how to recreate this look...

For the invites we used a scallop print gift box with a coffee mug inside, along with rolled up paper invites and confetti for a festive touch. Claudia of Fig2Design dip dyed beautiful and playful invites, menus and place cards in softer pastels shades of the core pink and yellow palette. Michelle’s calligraphy added a touch of sophistication to each piece. We also decided to key into the ombre dip dye trend, which proved an enjoyable and inexpensive DIY approach to creating unique table linens. Fold a solid white cotton bed sheet to align the edges and dip in liquid dye to create an instant no-sew tablecloth. For this scheme we used pink and fuscia dyes (from Rit) to get an ombre effect, with the whole DIY costing less than $10. The flower centrepieces anchored the stationery and linens by tying the scheme together. Three milk bottles filled with vibrant dual-toned roses, white and fuscia ranunculus, and eucalyptus pod branches formed the multiple-piece centerpiece. The eucalyptus branches added height and sculptural interest to the arrangement, drawing the eye upwards to the colorful dip-dyed paper lanterns. Opting for a multiple-piece center arrangement makes it easy to move a couple of the vases during the meal to make space for dishes without compromising on the look. Colourful, stylish and practical - just the way Mr. Bazaar likes it!

Colour Palette: Fresh Ideas For Green & Black

Black. I suspect that it isn't the first colour you would associate with spring. Am I right? Well, I can understand why because whilst those noir hues are beautiful, they don't exactly feel fresh. That's until you start to pair them with lush green shades and crisp white base notes. Then we're talking a whole new ball game, folks! Take the left hand kitchen, where the palette of ash grey and black is punctured with a small handful of green and yellow accents, which add a sense of depth and energy to the richly coloured scheme. Similarly in the right hand kitchen, we see how the striking black and white palette is broken up by using greenery to soften the space. Have you combined black and green before? Hurrah, the weekend has arrived! What are your plans, friends? My friend Rachie and her fiancé are coming over for a dinner party at mine, so throughout the week I've been looking for tablescape inspiration. The moment I set eyes on this Craspedia themed table I knew it was the ideal starting point for tonight's dinner. Why? Well, Craspedia is my favourite flower and the yellow hue will go perfectly with the dark navy walls of the dining area. OK, so my little apartment in central London doesn't offer a setting quite as beautiful as we see here (hello, isn't it dreamy!) but I know the company will be great, and there will be lashings of colour and conversation. A perfect dinner, right? Have a great one, folks!

"Everyday magic begins with a lovely table setting." These words by Rice founder, Charlotte Guineau ring so true with me - just take a look at the Tablescape 101 series for a host of reasons why! This collection of Italian tableware curated for Charlotte's lifestyle brand Rice help create that very magic. As regular readers will know, colour is the not so secret ingredient to creating magic for Mr. Bazaar. So it will come as no surprise that I was charmed in an instant by this rainbow of tableware brights. I've broken the shots up into sections, as I thought this helped see how the various hues have been used to create each scheme. Notice how occasional yellow, navy and sea green tiles break up the blue splash back. This is a great way to add visual interest and add to your colour palette without over crowding the eye. Book Review: A Space of My Own

For many of us a desk probably plays a prominent part in our lives. Perhaps it's your cubicle at your nine to five office job, a small writing desk in the shed at the end of the garden, a place for crafting or simply a place to house your laptop and pay the bills. Whatever 'desk' means to you, the workspace is important to all of us in some way. That's why I wanted to share with you some of the spaces that inspired me most from Caroline Clifton-Mogg's new book, A Space of My Own. These pulls from the book should give you some idea of the diverse workspaces covered in the book's 176 pages. From country to colourful and modern to homespun, there's bound to be an idea that keys in with your personal aesthetic. I don't know about you, but given the sheer volume of time we spend working I'm always happy to learn of clever ways to make daily tasks more efficient. Yes? Then dive on in, friends...

Caroline kicks off the book by taking the reader through the elements of creating a great space. From furniture to lighting, storage to decoration and everything in between, you can consider all elements of a great workspace covered! The second half of the book focuses on inspirational workspaces, themed together in relevant groupings such as shared spaces, children's work areas or craft rooms. From my top spaces I like 'Inspiration Station' best. There's something unusual about the juxtaposition of the structured, tidy storage area behind the graphic drape against the loose and freely pinned inspiration tears above the desk. It feels like the perfect fusion for Mr. Bazaar's OCD tidy/buzzing with ideas and creatively inspired personality! Have you read this book? What are your top workspace tips?

John Lewis' Spring/Summer Collection 2012

Playnation is the first of the three collections for the spring/summer season at John Lewis and details graphic geometric prints and shapes in a variety of bright hues. This feels like a collection that is full of energy and upbeat ideas to use in the home; it's colourful not saccharine, playful not childish. I would use pieces from Playnation to add life and visual interest to a space: a graphic throw cushion on an armchair or a set of coordinating, brightly coloured stationery pieces upon a wooden desk to break up the workspace.

Modern Utility is a development of the pared-back and sophisticated Refined Puritan autumn/winter collection from the brand. Although it details a natural progression for spring, I like how John Lewis have maintained the tactile and detailed feeling to the collection. This is seen through the use of worn wooden textures, traditional factory lights from Davey lighting and terracotta vases. The reclaimed wooden stool needs to find it's way in Mr. Bazaar's abode quick sharp (along with the yellow terracotta vase, too)!

Nautical themes are common in many spring/summer collections but they do fit perfectly with the season ahead and, personally, I rarely tire of crisp whites teamed with an array of beautiful blue hues. Think midnight, sky and ultramarine shades, accented with a sunflower yellow and grounded with wicker textures. Maritime offers all of these elements in abundance and at a high quality, too. (I recently invested in their coastal dinnerware set, which has been nothing short of excellent.) I love to see this look in a spare room as it's the perfect scheme for offering guests an escape from their daily lives. Which collection do you like best? Colour Palette: Country Rustic Yellow Twist

When living in a small one bedroom apartment it's important to have multifunction spaces and areas. Somewhere that doubles up as a space to work, write, craft and cook. In my London flat I have just that: a corner of the main living space that I use for writing blog posts, catching up on emails, packing parcels, rolling out mixture for cookies, sewing and more. It works well (not to say it wouldn't be nice to have a separate space for all these things but good things come in time, right?) and I enjoy changing up the surrounding area to suit the task at hand. The corner area shown here does the same: nearby shelves stock an array of implements to suit the task at hand, task lighting is on hand as required and fresh blooms and candles are ready to sooth or inspire as one writes. The space is a fusion of country and rustic-industrial elements; the colour palette of yellow and turquoise brights grounded by paper white and silky grey hues. What do you like about this space?
