2nd Creative Leaders Conference; BrightSpyre Guiding Young Leaders

BrightSpyre, once again, joined hands with ECI and SOUL to hold 2nd Creative Leaders' Conference (CLC-2009) featuring the theme of "Justju Jo Karay Wo Chuay Asman". CLC is designed to educate, enlighten, encourage and empower the Pakistani youth through Workshops, Hands on Training, Recreational activities, and Events. This event was one of its kind and it got tremendous response from Young Leaders, Entrepreneurs, Corporate Executives, Social Workers, Politicians and Technology Gurus. BrightSpyre was there to motivate, direct and guide young leaders towards their future endeavors.

Event was packed with discussions, workshops, presentations and handful of interactive activities. BrightSpyre invited Todd Shea, American volunteer working in Pakistan since 2005, who deliberated his wonderful experience in Pakistan and he also sung Dil Dil Pakistan which boosted young leaders and audience.

Event went successful and BrightSpyre is pleased that event got covered by various well-known Channels like Business Plus, ATV, Waqt TV, SAMAA TV, TVOne, FM 89, which is another hallmark for BrightSpyre. BrightSpyre signs MoU with USAID & IBA

BrightSpyre, USAID Pakistan (Jobs) and Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Sukkur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday 12th September 2009 to work together for the placement of approximately 100,000 Pakistanis on highly skilled jobs nationwide.

Speaking on this occasion Mr. Fasial Chohan, Co Founder BrightSpyre, expressed his pleasure and said, "It is a great new step for job seekers not only in urban centers but also smaller towns in locating jobs throughout Pakistan." This Agreement is significant step forward for promoting talent with good technical skills and finding them great new avenues to locate jobs.

This MOU is first of its kind that will bring a revolution in Pakistani Industry and will also help the non technical Pakistanis especially youth and a woman to acquire the technical skills and find the opportunities on a single platform that is BrightSpyre.

In the words of Ms. Amy Raam, Chief of Party , USAID Pakistan (Jobs), “In partnership with BrightSpyre - the leading job portal for the corporate sector; and IBA, Sukkur - one of the best Information Technology Institutes in the country, USAID Pakistan (Jobs) will train and counsel students to get preeminent jobs in line with their interest and caliber.”

The memorandum of understanding signed set the bases for the needed long term cooperation and coordination between the Educational Institutes and the Job Market. BrightSpyre will bridge this gap in collaboration with IBA Sukkur and USAID Pakistan (Jobs).

This is a five-year project funded by (USAID) and implemented by consortium of private sector non-government and technical partner organizations led by Care International in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives.

Creative Leaders Conference 2009 (CLC-2009 is the first exclusive forum of its kind to bring leader's splinter groups together who value persistent innovation and fostering of diverse strengths in their efforts to make a difference. CLC 2009 assembled around 200 youngsters from across the country. The theme of the conference was "hai jazba janoon tou himmat na haar". CLC 2009 was a 3 day conference designed to educate, enlighten, encourage and empower the Pakistani youth through workshops, Hands on Training, Recreational activities, and Events. Besides, Eminent Scientists, Renowned Educationists, Politicians, Famous Sports Personalities, Successful Businessmen and Celebrities from Showbiz delivered outstanding lectures on imperative subjected matters.

BrightSpyre was among the partners to the event, it did all the E-Branding for CLC-2009. BrightSpyre also arranged a Career Counseling Session exclusive for CLC-2009 participants where the panel included Saadia Malik from Teradata, Talat Haider from AWT and Omer Nazir from GHPL. Brightspyre along with International Islamic University and Jang Group organized National Job Fair (2009) on 9th & 10th of June 2009. Job fair held at the International Islamic (Faisal Mosque Campus) was a huge success. You could see a huge influx of job seekers applying for jobs on 44 stalls representing different companies. A big community of females was also present there. This shows that the trend of keeping women restricted to the households is changing and not only are these girls themselves willing to do jobs but their families are supporting them as well, as they see this as a necessity for the woman of today. The event started in morning and continued till evening with students coming with the same enthusiasm all day. This job fair gave them the opportunity to apply in many companies simultaneously rather then going to these companies individually, that too with the rare chances of even getting called after they drop their resumes.

Brightspyre played a vital role by encouraging students and collected more than 1,500 resumes each day and conducted walk-in-interviews. BrightSpyre Supporting Relief Efforts in rural Mardan

BrightSpyre and its parent organization Cogilent Solutions joins hands with UM Healthcare Trust to support relief efforts for Buner and Swat refugees in rural Mardan. BrightSpyre has consented to collect donations/supplies/equipment of all sorts in Islamabad and send it to the victims/refugees in Mardan in collaboration with UM Healthcare Trust.

UM Healthcare Trust (http://www.umtrust.org) was established in 2004 with the aim to provide affordable healthcare for the poor and needy in rural Pakistan. Today, By the Grace of God, they are successfully running their services on a regular basis in rural Mardan District of Pakistan. Their hospital is located in the village of Zahidabad, NWFP which is 200KM North of Islamabad. Since September 2008, they have treated over 15,000 patients off which over 5,000 have proper medical histories and tracked on a regular basis.

UM Healthcare Trust's hospital in Zahidabad is located at the border of Buner District and therefore, they have witnessed a huge influx of refugees into the area since the conflict began earlier in April 2009. In fact, an estimated 100,000 refugees are located/housed in a 10KM radius of this medical facility. The conflict, that has been going on since the War on Terror began earlier this decade, has caused over 1.5 million refugees in the province of NWFP (North West Frontier Province) of Pakistan. As a response to this crisis, UM Healthcare Trust, in collaboration with its stakeholders (NUST, APPNA among others) has launched a massive healthcare relief effort for the refugees streaming in from the Buner & Swat district.

The project is a joint collaboration between UM Healthcare Trust (http://www.umtrust.org), NUST (http://www.seecs.edu.pk), and APPNA (http://www.appna.org) and is partially supported by grants from USAID (http://www.usaid.gov), ISIF (http://www.isif.asia) and Cybernet (http://www.cyber.net.pk satellite connectivity for Tele-healthcare servces) and ordinary people like you and me. In this hour of the need for refugees we need your support as we are running short on medical supplies.

No international non-profit is not operating in our area and thus our limited resources are under a lot of stress. NUST (http://www.seecs.edu.pk) and BrightSpyre (www.brightspyre.com) have consented to be the collection points for relief goods in Islamabad and Rawalpindi area. We are currently finalizing venues in other cities for collection of relief goods.

STEP Job Board - A Step Forward for Persons with Disabilities

Did you know that there are over 16 million persons with disabilities in Pakistan? And did you know that majority of these people are unemployed and do not have a job? Did you know that Government of Pakistan requires, by law, every enterprise to hire 2% of the workforce from persons with disabilities. Did you know that there are over 65,000 private limited companies registered with Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) yet, hardly 1% if registered enterprises comply to these rules set by the Government?

BrightSpyre in collaboration with STEP (Special Talent Exchange Program) has embarked on an initiative to support people with disabilities seek better and qualified jobs within Pakistan and abroad. The Job Board was inaugurated by Mr. Zamrud Khan, Managing Director of Bait-ul-Mal, Pakistan. Mr. Khan in his speech talked about the need to influence the government to understand their needs and hoped that together we can prevail on the government to have atleast five seats reserved in the Parliament and Senate for people with disablities.

This year, STEP and BrightSpyre will promote the recruitment of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in all across Pakistan and bring awareness to the cause.

Mr. Atif Sheikh, President, STEP emphasized the need to bring people with disabilities into the mainstream by giving them employment opportunities just like any other individual. In his speech, we learned that Pakistan government first recognised the need for PWD in 1981 and only in 2002 did the framework was developed and adopted by the government. Still a lot of work has to be done including making places accessible to the disable in Pakistan.

The ceremony was attended by the HR managers of leading enterprises in Islamabad.

STEP is a non-profit organization run and managed for the people with disabilities by themselves. It was founded by the Alumni of Special Education Centers who felt the need to form a cross disability self-help group. Students Talent Exchange program (STEP) was then conceived and launched by the alumni of special education centers of Islamabad in order to bring a change in the behavior of society toward People with disabilities (PWDs) in 1997.

As it is not possible for everyone to attend this conference, but TEDx (mini TED events ) series are the important way to spread TED inspiration to the community who did not attend this conference.

As such event was organized in Islamabad and attended by BrightSpyre Team. Mr. Faisal said "It was difficult to decide which TED theme and talk to choose to show them in 1 hour session. So I decided to ask it from attendees to make my choice easier."

Mr. Faisal started with Evan Williams story over sixth sense demo.

Additionally he talked about the TED team,TED fellows program, TED fellows, about duarte training on creating powerful presentation to TED fellows and ofcourse delicious TED food.

A few arrangements done for the talk include a projector ( a bit bigger screen than Ana Gabela Hawaii TEDx) , badges for everyone (not as sophisticated as TED badges) and desi local food. The team members from HR, Graphics and admin departments made arrangements for this wonderful talk.

It is impossible to create the TED atmosphere any where else in the world but still TEDx Islamabad attendees were looking thrilled and inspired after one hour.

“Biz Fest 2009: Business Plan Competition” was held by NUST (on 7th of Feb 2009) with the collaboration of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and co-sponsored by BrightSpyre, at ICCI.

The event gave students exposure to corporate board-room involving planning and presentation skills to train quality professionals for business world. The workshop was overwhelmingly attended by top executives from multinational companies. Student teams presented their business ideas in a very professional manner that earned great appreciation from corporate guests.

Among participants, Shaban Khalid, President ICCI; Bilal Ahmad Khan, CFO, POL; Naeem Zamindar, Head of Broadband PTCL; Owais Anjum, Country Head Numetrics, appreciated the effort of NUST for holding this important competition event. NUST Business School is determinant to continue holding such competitions as they play a key role in boosting up the confidence in students, in improving their knowledge and skills as well as in generating more interest in them about entrepreneurship.

BrightSpyre took another step by partnering with Google and introducing its Business Solutions in Pakistan. An event was held for the same purpose on Monday, Feb 09, 2009 (5~8pm)

Although Google is generally known as a web search engine, it has many business products in various categories including internet advertising, communication & publishing, development, geo, search, statistics, etc. The idea behind this talk is to introduce these products to SMEs, corporate & professionals so that they can make the most out of Google business solutions and increase their efficiency & productivity with these cutting edge tools.

Seminar was arranged at newly build NUST SEECS H-12 campus which is situated on the outskirts of Islamabad. More than 100 people from industry attended the Seminar.

Seminar started at around 5:20pm. Many professional people from the industry joined this session including guests from BrightSpyre, Tera Data, Eco Conserve, Ufone and other companies. Marketing of this event was done by BrightSpyre through its active links in industry, newsletters, banner advertisements and from Facebook page. Mr.Badar started with a video about the current boom in the growth of Internet users and Infrastructure. After that he introduced different products of Google such as Calendar, Docs, Insights, Webmasters Central, Gmail, Adwords, Adsense and others. The room got filled with fiery question and answer session. Mr.Badar also distributed 10 Google Merchandise Shirts among the guests after asking simple questions.

Session was excellent and was a chance to learn new things and interact and socialize with new people. All the members of NSEC did a great job and their efforts paid off.

Wikipedia defines BCP as Business continuity planning (BCP) is the creation and validation of a practiced logistical plan for how an organization will recover and restore partially or completely interrupted critical (urgent) functions within a predetermined time after a disaster or extended disruption.

Business Continuity Planning (BCP) is the corner stone of all the security and work continuity plans for any major enterprise. BCP helps organizations create a working plan for them to stay in business during and immediately in the aftermath of a disaster. For example BCP works to reduce operational risks during natural disasters like earthquakes, and floods, or incidents where raging fires, violent riots, or even bomb blasts knock out the infrastructure of any organization. BrightSpyre launches " First ever Disabled Job Board"

BrightSpyre, together with STEP (Special Talent Exchange Program) ,a cross-disability organization, has taken an initiative to launch Pakistan’s first ever disability job board. This board is specially designed for disabled persons in order to facilitate and provide them equal job opportunities. This is a unique job board that has been created for the disabled community for the very first time not only in Pakistan, but globally.

The first ever disability job board powered by BrightSpyre.com has been launched at a colorful event being organized to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Tuesday, December 2, 2008. This event was organized by the Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP). Event included the Minister for Social Welfare & Special Education, Samina Khalid Ghurki, as the premier guest. Over 350 participants including 250 persons with disabilities, attended the ceremony, which was held at the auditorium of the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). The event featured a theatre performance by disabled persons, a presentation by a role model titled ‘Disability is a Social Issue’, and the launch of a video documentary.
