Technology is a fickle mistress.
Things will mysteriously start to work again, flawlessly, once you give up trying to fix them.
Windows will always find a way to piss you off, and it will twist the knife at the same time.
Failure of one OS suddenly makes you think your alternative (working!) OS is utterly perfect in every single way - even though in real life it is not.
Having a second system is incredibly useful and comforting.
Being lazy about backing data up results in fear and panic, so it is better to just keep things backed up constantly, no matter how safe you think you are.

My experience trying out the free MMOG Dungeon Runners thus far has been… less than great.

I loaded up the game at long last, made a character, and once I hit the world? The game crashed as I moused over the buttons in the toolbar.

And now, after forcibly restarting the PC, I’m getting disk read errors.

What a way to start the day. Sigh.

edit: And now it’s telling me I need to repair Windows. FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

edit2: It will not boot. Going to try booting from a live CD to rescue my stuff, then flatten it.

OK, that’s good. But:
However, Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which criminalizes homosexuality, will continue for non-consensual and non-vaginal sex.

Yes, you’re only allowed to be gay as long as you only ever put your pee-pee in lady-bits. Or don’t put it anywhere at all.

I suppose it’s a slight step forward, though, which may, eventually, usher in a proper acceptance of non-hetero relationships in the law? Every country has to start somewhere, afterall.

I am disgusted. This is fucking disgraceful. The police should know better. I really hope someone is held accountable for this, but I know that will never really happen - perhaps an internal warning/slap on the wrist at most, because they’re only animals lol rite? Ugh.

Can’t believe I missed this one! Best Zelda game ever, and it remains one of my all-time favourites. Before mobile phones got fancy polyphonic/mp3 ringtones, I printed a guide to inputting the theme tune, key by key, into my old brick. It was glorious.

I will make a cake in celebration of this most excellent of games, at some point. I MUST!

“It made me think of what Tom Taylor did with some NASA data on Near Earth Objects. He took this data and hooked it to a Twitter feed so that every time a rock passes near earth a Tweet is sent. Imagine if regular data was kept on meteorite Earth impacts? Every time a space rock knocks into the Earth a tweet would be sent with the location (longitude and latitude) and time of impact. You could plug that info into your GPS device and be the first on the scene when a giant robot emerges from a smoldering crater to annihilate the the world with his ray gun. Now wouldn’t that be the ultimate first?”

My interview went really well! Hopefully I’ll be invited back for a second interview and things will go well again, but we shall see. Hopefully I’ll know by the end of the week.
