A powerful, validating read for busy moms! ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

As a single mom living here in Wisconsin, my reading time is incredibly limited, but this book was worth every stolen minute. When Women Talk Volume 3, Notes From The Future completely hooked me, primarily because of how deeply developed and relatable the characters are.

The author doesn't just present ideas; she breathes life into the women carrying them. Each individual feels like someone you actually know—or want to know. Their struggles, resilience, and forward-looking mindsets felt entirely authentic and grounded in reality, which gave the futuristic notes a profound sense of hope. I saw pieces of my own journey reflected in their strengths and vulnerabilities.

The only reason I'm giving it 4.5 stars instead of a perfect 5 is that I wanted even more time with a few of my favorite perspectives! It’s a beautiful, character-driven collection that left me feeling deeply inspired about the future we are building for our kids. Highly recommend!

A solid 4.5 out of 5 stars!

As a single mom living here in Wisconsin, balancing a tight budget while navigating today’s constant economic headlines can feel incredibly overwhelming. I picked up The Economy Always Gets Better: Navigating Uncertain Times with Confidence looking for practical guidance, but what I truly valued most was the profound sense of optimism it gave me.

The author does a fantastic job of breaking down complex economic cycles into simple, reassuring concepts. Instead of the usual doom-and-gloom, this book reminds us that downturns are temporary and growth is inevitable. It gave me a massive boost of confidence and completely shifted how I view my financial future. The only reason I'm knocking off half a star is that a few chapters felt a bit repetitive, but the overall message is exactly what I needed to hear. I was recently asked to introduce myself and recommend 10 books. In case you're new here, this may be a lovely place to start. All of the book recommendations can be found in a longer form on this blog as well.

HELLO chilly Wisconsin!

My name is Crystal Otto and I love books - particularly the paper kind because they smell and feel amazing! I love owning books, reading books, looking at books, sniffing books, collecting books, talking about books, helping promote books, and I'm currently writing a book. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about this class because I love the idea of sharing my love of books with students.

My 11 year old daughter is taking a summer school class where she is hoping to write her first book and I like to think that her love of books, reading, and writing all began when I was pregnant with her. I probably shouldn't try to take all the credit though - we all know it's God's plan, right?

When I'm not thinking about books, I'm playing music and singing. I'm a church musician and a mother to 6 amazing humans! I also enjoy kayaking, biking, riding horses, cooking, baking, and swimming!

The ten most memorable books for me (thus far in life) are:

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett (This was the first book I absolutely fell in love with during my 4th grade year. I owned the Scholastic version with the yellow cover and I carried it everywhere and read it 6 times that summer. I even perfected my ability to read while on the back of my mom's motorcycle since I couldn't possibly be dragged away from reading and my mother agreed that I could try it if it would get me out of the house.)

I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb (I even have Mr. Lamb's signature on this hard cover edition because we have mutual friends. This book drew me in and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since 1998. Lamb is a fantastic author with many amazing books, but this is my favorite.)

She's Not Herself by Linda Appleman Shapiro (Linda is the wife of the king of audiobooks, George Guiddal. George and Linda are the ones who helped me get Wally Lamb's signature, but I digress... Linda is incredibly talented and this book is a memoir about her youth and life with her mentally ill mother. Linda and I are now friends and she has painted several pictures that hang in my home, She's Not Herself was very eye opening for me as a daughter and mother; it's very well written and if you're thinking of writing your own memoir, this is an example of how someone who didn't consider themselves an author can become a successful one!)

Harriet Hates Lemonade by Kim McCollum (this is a recent book for me by an author I was unfamiliar with (McCollum's writing style is incredibly engaging and she's a fabulous story teller! Harriet Hates Lemonade has given me so many things to think about in my own life and my relationships and I'll remember this book always!)

Sugarland by Martha Conway (As a piano player I was excited about the accuracy of the musical references in this book. Additionally, I said to my husband "Martha Conway must be an amazing historian" because she did such a fabulous job with each and every details of the jazz age. Nothing felt out of sync or out of place. As an author, she give you the details you need without any extra flowery page fillers.)

The House on Linden Way by Elizabeth Maria Naranjo (The House on Linden Way is one of those unexpected books with countless plot twists! After reading it the first time I need to let you know I'm going to read it again - like immediately! It's one of those books that is written so well that once you get to the end you find yourself wanting more - and when you re-read some of the chapters, you find little hidden tidbits you missed the first time! )

Memoir Revolution by Jerry Waxler (Whether you are a reader, a writer, or a journaler, or story teller you will find Memoir Revolution to be a worthwhile read. There’s definitely a story going on, but Waxler takes the role of teacher. I hesitate to refer to Memoir Revolution

as “text book like”…so I would describe the experience of reading it as follows: It’s like getting to know a highly admired college professor and then being invited to his home for a study group and then you get there and there’s wine, snacks, fabulous coffee, and great conversation. You have an opportunity to learn something in an environment so comfortable you never want to leave.)

The Alphabet Sisters by Monica McInerney (I laughed, cried, and rolled my eyes throughout this read. When done, I wished for more chapters because I wasn’t ready to leave the characters I had grown so attached to. I would recommend this book to others and give it five out of five stars. )

Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard (I absolutely loved each and every page of “Cold Light of Day” by Elizabeth Goddard. This novel was unexpected in that it wasn’t your same old ordinary predictable romance with a hint of mystery or mystery with a hint of romance. I had no idea who should be trusted or who might have been around the next turn. This unpredictability made it oh so much fun to read! (as a side note, I took it with me everywhere I went one Saturday and even got the pages wet in the hot tub at the hotel we were staying at; I literally did not want to put this book down.) Grier is such a quiet hero and Autumn is likable and sweet. Their guy/girl next door qualities make them relatable and you feel as if you know them personally. I was incredibly thankful to find out “Cold Light of Day” was book 1 in a series, because you can’t help but want more of these delightful characters, quaint little town, and gorgeous Alaskan setting. I’m looking forward to reading more books by talented author Elizabeth Goddard.))

The main characters were well-developed and the story moved at a quick pace. I had an inkling of what might be coming next, but still delighted in watching the story come to life. I especially appreciated the tension created between the characters. This is a heartwarming and light read that could be enjoyed by any reader. I'm happy to say my daughter and mother will be reading this book next - and in today's world of cuss words, sex, and scandal, it's nice to have a book I can comfortably share with others without worrying about offending. A beautiful story told in the most lovely way! **to be fair, I love anything by Bette Lee Crosby and she wrote a book based on my real life story called Baby Girl and that might be my favorite, but it seems a bit arrogant to choose a book based on your own life as your favorite...) 5 Star Dining Review for The Wildflower Supper Club in Kewaunee, Wisconsin

If you find yourself in Brown County (that's Green Bay Wisconsin and surrounding cities), Manitowoc County, Door County, or Kewaunee County, I strongly urge you to call The Wildflower Supper Club and make a dinner reservation: 920-388-6076. Now, let me tell you why (of course it involves a story, so get comfy):

A few weekends back, I had a free evening with just one of my delightful children. We decided to drive
North on Hwy 42 in search of a meal. It was Saturday evening and neither of us had anything in mind, other than trying something new and relaxing (my daughter is 11). We pulled into Kewaunee and saw quite a few cars on Ellis Street by The Wildflower Supper Club. We decided to see what all the fuss was about. Before going in, we checked their facebook page and decided immediately that we wanted to go inside. The atmosphere and menu photos had us convinced this would be a fantastic experience! Let me just say, we were NOT disappointed!

We walked in and even though the place was packed, we managed to find 2 barstools. Looking around, I decided to try a homemade muddled old fashioned. When the bartender came over, she explained there would be a 45 minute wait which was fine with us (this is why I told you to make reservations though). We relaxed at the bar and met some new friends - some locals who are regulars and some out of towners like ourselves who had never been there before either. Knowing about the wait, we invited a friend who recently mentioned wanted to find a supper club that still served ice cream after dinner drinks. The wait was exactly as promised, they took our order at the bar, and we were quickly taken back to our table.

The dining room is adorable and inviting with a warm fireplace and floral decor. We enjoyed a garnish plate while waiting for our food, and everything we ordered was more than we expected in quantity and quality. The menu offers a little something for everyone. We've now been back 3 times and I can tell you whether it's a salad, Friday night fish, poke bowl, Saturday prime rib, soup, salad, or the drinks - whatever you order, you'll love it! They even serve homemade pies for dessert or will make a non-alcoholic after dinner drink for the kiddos. The owners are delightful and our favorite waitress is Angel! You'll thank me for the recommendation - I promise! You will leave with a full belly and a smile - every single time!

We can't wait to go back and it's well worth the drive from wherever you are in Central/Northern Wisconsin!

Ok - hopefully it's on it's way to your house and shipping doesn't take too long. While you wait, let me tell you why I think everyone needs to read this book:

I wanted to read this book because the cover of the book is just too perfect to pass by. Yes, that's the first thing that drew me in but once I started reading, I carried this book with me EVERYWHERE! Now, my 5th grade daughter is reading it and then my next door neighbor wants to be next. And of course, there's you...because you ordered it, right?

Harriet Hates Lemonade sucked me in. We all know a Harriet or can be a bit of a Harriet. She's the gal who says whatever is on her mind and doesn't seem to notice when it is not well received. Harriet is blunt and to the point. Harriet reminds me of some older women I know and love - they've got really big hearts but their filters are faulty. Harriet will tell you that your yard is a mess, that you put on a few pounds, or that your car is filthy and she won't apologize if she hurt your feelings. And yet you absolutely love her. She's like lemonade - sometimes it hits a little bitter and sometimes it hits a little sweet. I can't tell you much more because the twists and turns of this story are what makes it so fabulous - like life, it's absolutely unexpected! And like lemonade, sometimes the unexpected makes you pucker...

McCollum's writing style is incredibly engaging and she's a fabulous story teller! Harriet Hates Lemonade has given me so many things to think about in my own life and my relationships and I'll remember this book always! I've read most of Michael R. French's books and loved them! French writes beautifully with just enough detail to keep me engaged and his flow is consistent throughout his books. When he popped into my inbox in December with an opportunity to read and review The Good Mother Test, I literally tossed my phone onto the couch and looked at the ceiling asking "why me God?". The day the email arrived, I had found my mother on the floor of her home. The paramedics were called, I spent the day at the hospital, and I had just come home to check a few things (including emails) after learning my mother had a brain tumor and would be in a coma for her remaining days. My mother and I had always had a tumultuous relationship. Due to her mental illness, I had always felt like the mother: cleaning up her messes, trying to smooth over her broken relationships, forgiving her for outbursts, and trying to help others see her in the best light - even when I was the one seeing her at her worst. The very last thing I wanted to do while sitting next to my own mother on her death bed was to read a book titled: The Good Mother Test. I took a few deep breaths remembering how much I adore French's other books and I picked up my phone to finish reading about this new book. Ah...single motherhood...that speaks to me. Co-parenting, psychological struggles, and that unhealed inner child...I guess I can find something interesting in this book. I replied to the email. The book arrived after my mother died and before Christmas. We had her funeral between Crystal and New Years and I decided to start reading right after sending out the last obligatory thank you note. My own situation aside, here is my review:

Michael R. French did a fabulous job writing The Good Mother Test from the perspective of a mother and a daughter (neither of which he has ever been). The book had great flow and I didn't feel any chapters were lacking when it came to holding my attention. Even though the characters were very different (primarily in socio economic ways) from my friends and myself, they were very believable and relatable. I would recommend this book for older readers as there are adult topics, but as an adult mother, I found The Good Mother Test to be a beautiful story. I can definitely relate to vowing to be endlessly loving and fiercely protective of my children. I also think that no matter how hard we try as parents, our children are going to come up with ways they can do better than we did. Isn't that what progress is about any way? That was the best part of reading French's latest book - it made me think. I spent a good deal of time reflecting on my childhood, the childhood I provide for my children, and how my children may think about their own parenting journeys some day. The Good Mother Test is 5 stars in my book - and it's a book I'll be thinking about for years to come! Well done Michael R. French!

“It’s time for dinner!” mom hollers loudly from the kitchen. You’ve been at school all day and your tummy is growling. You race excitedly into the kitchen asking pleadingly with big eyes “what’s for supper?”. Mom gives you two options. You can choose from a plain hamburger bun or a cheeseburger deluxe. Which would you choose?

How does this apply to reading and writing? Let’s read two short paragraphs and see if we can figure out how a cheeseburger deluxe is going to help us be better writers.

My trip to outer space – I went to outer space once. I saw a lot of things that were different. I got tired. I came home. My mom missed me. I told her I went to outer space. She was glad I was home. I was glad I was home. I went to bed.

My trip to outer space – Tuesday morning started like an ordinary school day. On my way to school, the bus began to fly and I was afraid at first. My teacher was driving the bus so it wasn’t as scary as I thought at first. She told me we were going to outer space and I was really excited except I wasn’t sure my mom would be very happy about me missing school. My teacher told us she had permission slips from our parents so I could relax and concentrate on having fun. There were bright stars and flying rocks out the windows. Everything was just like we read about in our chapter books about going to the moon. I thought it might be cold but the bus kept us warm even though it was very cold outside. Our teacher talked to us about everything we were seeing like meteors, asteroids, and comets. I started getting hungry so I knew it must be close to the end of the school day. I was hoping we would go home soon so I could have dinner with my family. My stomach was growling. With the flip of a switch the bus turned back into a regular school bus and the comets turned into regular old oak trees. I realized I was on my block and nearly back to my house. I hopped off the bus and ran quickly to the house to tell my family all about my outer space adventure. I hoped dinner was ready so I could eat while we talked. Outer space adventures really make second-graders hungry. Mom said I’ll sleep well tonight!

Which of those paragraphs were more fun to read?

Details can help make stories come to life for us as readers. Details can also make us better writers. Today, we are going to learn about making our writing a Deluxe Cheeseburger!

The Components of a Cheeseburger Deluxe

This method breaks down a paragraph into distinct, visual parts:

Top Bun (Topic Sentence): Introduces the main idea or topic of the paragraph.
Lettuce/Onions (Supporting Details): The first layer of details that support the main topic.
The Patty (Key Evidence/Example): The "meat" of the paragraph, providing crucial evidence or a strong, central example.
Cheese/Tomato (Extra Details/Elaboration): Additional layers of details that expand, explain, or add flavor to the main evidence.
Bottom Bun (Concluding Sentence): Wraps up the paragraph by summarizing the main points and restating the topic sentence in a new way.

How to Use the Strategy to Add Details

To specifically encourage detail addition, teachers can use the following techniques:

Add "Toppings" (Details): Instruct students to add at least three "toppings" (supporting sentences) between the buns.
Use "Deluxe" Add-ons: Beyond the basic 3-sentence body, the "Deluxe" component requires students to add specific examples, sensory details, or descriptions after each main supporting point.
Visual Organizers: Use graphic organizers that feature a burger with labels for "Bun," "Lettuce," "Patty," "Cheese," and "Bottom Bun" to help students plan before they write.
"Fix the Bland Burger" Activity: Have students read a simple, thin paragraph and brainstorm "toppings" (details) to make it a "deluxe" paragraph.
Color-Coding: Have students underline their topic sentence in green (go), their details in yellow/orange (add), and their conclusion in red (stop).

Benefits of the Strategy

Encourages Elaboration: The visual of a "naked" patty (unsupported topic) makes it obvious when a paragraph needs more information.
Improves Organization: It provides a clear, structured framework for paragraphs.

Yes, I've read the first two books but I feel strongly that The Reckoning of Grace could be just fine as a stand-alone book. Greetings from Wisconsin - it's that time of year where it's warm enough to wear a swimsuit a few hours a day at least once a week - as long as the sun is shining...I'm not sure I was really meant to live this far North of the Equator.

Isn't the cover of this memoir gorgeous? It also makes me feel warm - even whilst sitting in Barnes and Noble where it is a chilly 68 degrees.

The cover is not the only thing to love about this memoir though...but before I get into that, here's a little more about "Where Did i Go?" by Francene Gillis:

In Where Did i Go? a Memoir Plus by Francene Gillis, the author tells her story of the arduous years and months that followed a tragic accident--a slip and fall on black ice on her way to work as a high school English teacher that caused a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), the symptoms of which lasted many years. Francene shares her story of the uphill battle that ensued in the hunt for the right treatments and providers at a time when the simplest task was nearly impossible due to the 'hidden' injury she suffered. Her symptoms were very real, from severe balance issues and brain fog, to speech impairment and more. Along with being a teacher, Francene was also a regular columnist for her local paper, both of which came to a halt following her injury. As she slowly regained the ability to focus for short periods of time, she began writing her story in the hope that she could help those with TBI and other 'hidden' injuries by sharing her research and others' stories of resilience and perseverance.

The book holds seven stories plus hers to help people fighting a battle in relation to health, injury, or loss, and while raw and difficult to read at times it shows how mindset, support, and the right treatment is imperative to recovery. Watch for the arrival of Where Did i Go? coming this June 2025 (Brain Injury Awareness Month). More on the book and people within in the next few months.

And now for my 5 star review:

Francene Gillis weaves a beautiful memoir with "Where Did i Go?" and I enjoyed every page and appreciate her sharing her journey. This is one of those memoirs that not only shares one person's story, but also gives you tips you can use to improve your own story/journey. "Where Did i Go?" was full of wisdom - ideas to help improve my attitude with gratitude, foods to help improve mood, and a list to help create a positive mindset (page 176 if you want to look at that every day for the rest of your life)!

I feel like there is so much wisdom shared in this book and as much as I'd love to pass it on - I'm keeping it close to refer back to. Go get yourself a copy though - you are sure to agree with my 5 star rating!

Serenity Saturday (3/8/2025) - Girl, Where have you been?

So much for 365 blog posts in 2025. I made it to the middle of February though. I was going to try to catch up on the days I missed, but then the number got so large I considered just throwing the laptop out the window and going into hiding. Is there a witness protection plan for overextended writers?

Obviously the laptop is alive and well and so am I. I may still go back and fill in the blanks, but as for right now, I'm here and I'm writing. I'm toying with giving up blogging for Lent. That was a lie - I gave up blogging and I'm thinking about blaming Lent and those two things are definitely not the same.

I just don't know how to find the time for everything. I want to be the best employee, the best mom, the best looking and healthiest version of myself, the best author, the bestest of friends, and an amazing musician. If only there were more hours in each day or more days in each week or if I were superhuman and required less sleep - or even better, no sleep at all!

How do you do it? How do you juggle everything? I want to be working on my novel, organizing my closet, baking sourdough since that's all the craze, and I should be at the gym, prepping fresh cut veggies, and making my own granola bars while arranging beautiful floral arrangements and finishing my crochet project.

Serenity Saturday #7 - 2025 (2-15-2025)

Such a storm..."don't leave home" ...

We had a slow start, a big breakfast, and the plan was to stay in jammies all day long. Until the teenage boy called asking for a ride to work. So much for that!

"me either - but since I have to, you do too. Might as well take ourselves out for dinner too"

"where are we eating?"

"As long as we are taking Andre to the Waterfront Wine Bar, we may as well eat there. I love their wine and I could go for some prime rib"

We spent a cozy evening in my favorite restaurant enjoying all of the amazing Valentine things without the crowd. I fully expected to spend the day at home reading and catching up on work. This was WAY better!

Fit Friday #7 - 2025 Happy Valentine's Day (2/14/2025)

If you read yesterday's post, you know I was a little befuddled when it comes to Valentine's Day this year. In past years, the gifts on the table were definitely chosen by mom, but the kids were always led to believe they were from mom and dad or sometimes just dad. Mom would pretend along with the kids to be completely surprised by all the sweet things.

I wasn't going to do anything. I really wasn't - but I couldn't help myself. I woke up Valentine's Morning and looked at the empty table and missed my Daddy oh so much and longed for that feeling again. You know the one, the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you feel loved unconditionally. The feeling you get when you know someone loves you with a sacrificial deep love that transcends everything!

I put sweet little gifts by everyone's spot at the table - even my own. There were cards and love notes and no mention of who provided the magic. It was simply there and everyone enjoyed exploring their gifts and showing one another. It's not really about the WHAT or the how much - it's about sharing the love. Appreciating one another. Making others feel special. What a glorious way to start the day!

And how does this apply to fit Friday you ask? Well.... there aren't any chocolates on that table - so that's as close as you're getting to fitness today!

Thoughtful Thursday #7 - 2025 The Big V-Day Dilemma (2/13/2025)

Well, tomorrow is the big day. I know I know...Hallmark Holiday and such. I bought the Valentine's for school, filled out the cards, made the snacks, filled the candy jars, and now I have to decide what to do at home. Carmen's gift will arrive and since she opens all my packages any way (like a good teen daughter always does) it will work out beautifully and I ordered exactly what she wanted from Ulta so I know she'll be happy. I'll give Andre some money to take his sweetie out, so that's not a problem. But what about the table?

The table? You ask...

Well - for as long as I can remember my Dad would place my Valentine gifts on the table so I could wake up and feel special Valentine's morning. It's a tradition I continued long after he went to Heaven to be with Jesus. This is the first year it's just me and the kids though. This sounds trivial, but all the years I was married I'd still put gifts on the table and usually just skip myself in hopes that my husband would run to the gas station and get me a bag of chocolates. I overthink which you know unless you're new here.

So... should I get myself something so my spot isn't empty (a reminder that I'm not someone's Valentine this year? that I failed once again at love and marriage?) or what's the right thing to do. I don't want the children to pity me.

A poetic memoir on living with and loving rescue dogs.

Barth started adopting dogs to heal after the loss of her husband in 2008. In nine months, she went from one dog to six, all older dogs needing love as much as she did. From larger dogs to downsizing to Chihuahuas over the years, always five to six dogs sleeping in her bed. Each dog with a unique set of quirks but finding its place in the pack. Barth has captured the essence of their personalities in her poems. Sadly, dogs leave us too soon. Barth believes in honoring a lost dog by adopting another, giving it a safe-haven.

Meet a few of the pups. Queen Chloe, the first Chihuahua who ruled the larger dogs in her leopard print dress. Annabelle, the grumpy, pudgy cocker mix. And the PS as of publishing this, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, a two-year old Chihuahua mix that wants to play in a house full of seniors.

Barth has been writing for as many years as adopting her canines. Known as Writer With Dogs, her works range from memoir and fiction to publishing and editing several anthologies with other authors. You can be certain, whatever she writes, there are dogs in her stories.

Barbara Barth turned to writing and adopting dogs to heal after the loss of her husband in 2008. Known as Writer With Dogs over the years, she now calls herself Chihuahua Mama and lives with six demanding Chihuahuas in a charming small town forty miles from Atlanta. She is Literary Arts Chair on the Board of her local art center. Inspired by the many talented artists she meets Barth started painting. Temptation Tuesday #6 - 2025 Take Your Family to Harborside in Manitowoc - 5 Stars! (2/11/2025)

I saw this advertisement on Facebook and I was drawn to head downtown Manitowoc to one of my all time favorite restaurants! We were greeted warmly by the lovely Shannon and had a most relaxing and enjoyable evening! The food at Harborside is absolutely wonderful, the portions are ridiculously large (don't let your 11 year old son get the adult size burger...even my little manchild can't finish that bad boy)! The salads are delicious, the desserts are sure to please, and the drink menu is never boring. One of my youngest daughters swears by the bacon wrapped shrimp - and she's right - best appetizer in the world!

All around this is a 5 star dining experience in Manitowoc - friendly staff, comfortable and clean establishment, and fantastic food! This is the type of restaurant you can go to as a family, or you can get a sitter and make it romantical ... I took the kiddos and as always, they were welcomed with open arms (and a lovely gent even treated them to a dessert because they were so amazing!)

Deep Sunday Thoughts about What Really Makes a Memory!

This is what happened at our house yesterday - it didn't cost much more than a trip to the grocery store but hopefully it's a priceless memory!

We like to do this thing on Slow Saturdays (usually the only day we aren’t rushing) and we call it Big Breakfast. Everyone places their order the night before and we make every single thing! Some mornings there’s pancakes and French toast, eggs 2-3 different ways, oatmeal, potatoes AND bacon. It’s very seldom everyone agrees, but when the food is ready we sit down like you would on thanksgiving and relax, talk, share funny stories, etc… sometimes it takes hours before we start cleaning up the kitchen. It’s one of my absolutely favorite traditions and one I hope they always remember!

Todays Big Breakfast:

Milk

Apple cider

Pineapple orange juice

Coffee

Buttermilk biscuits

Cinnamon rolls w/frosting

Scrambled eggs

Over easy eggs

Serenity Saturday #6 - 2025 The Serenity of a Snow Day (2/8/2025)

Fit Friday #6 - 2025 Fit with Friends and Family

So - it's been a rough week here. The Y was closed for a few days, and I had sick kiddos at home, so I haven't followed my schedule as well as I should have. But... guess what?

I'm headed to the YMCA shortly and I'm meeting a friend who also happens to be my daughter (who is turning 18 soon). Instead of simply going shopping and out for lunch because we both have a free afternoon, we are meeting at the Y. Our plan is to meet in the lobby, walk a bit on the treadmills, then hit the weight room. I'm sharing this because involving your friends and family in your fitness journey can be fun and functional too! I'm not going to miss an opportunity to chat with my lovely daughter so even if I feel more like laying on the couch than working out, I'm going to go!
