Describe the body condition: All original, no accidents except dent on side (see photos). We chose to leave it alone, and not alter anything. It is exactly what you see is what you are getting, no bondo or paintwork or bodywork. Undercarriage in excellent solid condition. Wheels and Tires are not original.

Describe the mechanical condition: Starts right up, runs excellent. Does not appear to leak any fluids, good power, excellent fuel economy. Has some interesting Toyota off-road add-ons like special air filter can for deep water fording, and dual fuel filtration with water separator. New Battery. Tires are not original size, and will need to be replaced sometime soon.

Included documentation: CA clear title with correct matching numbers and 1982 build date.

What makes this car special? One of three known in North America. This is not the later Blizzard that is a re-badged Rocky. Stamped number plate from Toyota of Japan indicates FJ22 Trim with L series motor and LD10 chassis.

It took the seller two solid days of compounding to get all the years of dirt out of the paint. It now looks very clean, but is properly aged and not over shined. The floors and underside are perfect according to the seller, with photos included in the album below. Finding such a dry car in the Northeast is a rarity. Neither the spare nor jack have ever come out of the car.

The interior is completely original according to the seller, including the original vinyl floor matting. The split bench seat is in amazing shape, and the dash is unaltered. The original owner’s manual remains in the glove box. The odometer in the photos shows 15497, which the seller says is original just like the rest of the car.

The 6-cylinder engine looks stock and has likely never been out of the car. The seller says that it could literally be driven across the country right now, and that it drives like it is brand new.

The Lotus Esprit-had a fiberglass body-designed by Giugiaro around the traditional Lotus backbone chassis. The sharply creased lines became Giugiaro’s trademark for many years, and were starkly handsome. The car was produced over four decades, having had several-evolutionary redesigns, and many engine developments from the original 140hp Lotus 907 four cylinder, to a 350hp twin-turbo V8.

This car is a S1 model, distinguished most readily by the Wolfrace alloy wheels. Evidence of Chapman’s parts bin raiding includes the taillights from Fiat, and a transaxle from Citroen. The seller offers two sets of carbs–US-spec Zenith-Stromberg, and UK-spec Dell’Ortos. It appears that the more powerful Dell’Ortos are installed.

The interior was re-upholstered in black alcantara instead of the tartan plaid that came originally. We like the subtle color, but it could use some leather or even vinyl accents to give some contrast. We don’t mind losing the tartan at all, and often want these interiors to be a bit more subdued,

Racing modifications added over a period of time include diaphragm-type clutch, fuel cell, roll bar, 60-spoke heavy-duty wire wheels, racing seats, heavy duty torsion bars and sway bar, Brookland wind screens, fuel filler. The sale will include the car as pictured in the driveway shots, plus the following original equipment: bumpers, leather seats, windshield and 54-spoke wire wheels. A C-head also included. The seller says he was greatly assisted by friend and Jaguar mechanic Stu Donaldson in both the original rebuild of the car, and then in the conversion into a racetrack eligible vehicle.

The car is street registered and a second Brooklands screen was added for the passenger when the seller retired from racing in 2008. The bumpers were also reinstalled and the headlights function. The car is painted black with tan leather interior, which shows very nicely. The bucket seats are from a Lotus 26R and look like a Jag buckets but are 17” wide rather than 19”. A 4:11 limited-slip rear end was added which threw off the accuracy of the speedometer. The seller disconnected the speedometer, since I didn’t need it on the race track, and it will have to be recalibrated. The seller has maintained it well as a race car, but it is not pristine as it was never his intent to restore it as a show car.

The seller has no knowledge of its ownership or use before his purchase of the parts, which he says he is sure came from a variety of vehicles. He augmented that purchase with parts over a couple of years from XKs Unlimited and from Guy Board UK. Being a race car, the original engine, head and transmission are all long gone. The current head is an E-type head with full race cams since it will take the 120 intake manifold. The engine compression is 10.5:1. When the seller added the fuel cell, he says he neglected to have the fuel gauge sender included, but one can easily be added. For racing purposes, he removed the gas gauge (which he has) and separated the oil/temp gauge into separate gauges.

The Chassis number is 672528 which appears to include it in the 1952 Jaguar XK120’s, but the California registration states it is a 1951. The seller says that with the stiff suspension and clutch pedal the car is not particularly comfortable to drive on public roads in present form.

The seller says that the car was restored at the RUF factory in 2005. No total mileage is listed, but it is said to have 16,000 kilometers in the last 6 years. He also says it is the only RUF VIN CTR in North America, and that it is #12 of 29 produced by RUF in Germany.

Our photos of the car from the Fairfield County Concours are linked in this Flickr album. The engine shot below shows the RUF intake as well as the intercooler and plenty of other custom parts. What we like is that these are understated cars compared to the 930, but are brilliantly packaged.

We were given a full tour of the car, and the interior featured the ultra-cool integrated roll-cage. You can see how the custom license lights are spaced wide for a Euro sized number plate. These cars also had the whale tail that is slightly mellower than the 930 tail, and void of the vertical side rubber.

This is one of our personal dream cars, and we spent a good deal of our time at the show chatting with this seller and looking at this amazing machine. We now know just what it takes to buy one. Would you do this or a 959? Tough call.

The seller shows photos from all the famous stops along The Mother Road, from tee-pees to bluebirds to Caddy farm art. The car sports shaved handles and emblems, and a good amount of pin-striping. Thick/thin whites look perfect tucked up into the wells, and the front was dialed in with short coils while the rear uses bags to assist the leaf springs.

This is an oft forgotten model, and we usually see them pretty well beaten and with four doors. The 2-door hardtop is slick, and we like it kustomozed even better than stock. Goldmine Pearl and the Candy Root Beer were amazingly well chosen. We couldn’t care less what the original color might have been.

THe interior looks clean in white with a painted and striped dash. Note the visor mirror which allows shaving of the side morror. Automatic is definitely preferred in such a car, and the 390 V8 sounds about right. Check out the seller’s photos and find more info on the Vegas event here at VivaLasVegas.net.

The seller finishes his listing with one command: “Drive it anywhere… we did.” Bravo to that. More of us should pick an event at a far away spot and plan such a journey. We are inspired.
