The seller purchased this car in 2001 with the specific goal of preparing the car for that year’s Carrera Panamericana. The original rust-free car was sprayed with DuPont Imron paint and professionally preserved and stored by its previous owner in Michigan. The campaign was successful, resulting in a class win in the Sport Menor Class against a strong field of Porsche 356s and one other Giulietta Sprint. The team placed 19th overall out of 76 finishers. The win in the Carrera was documented in a two-part article in Alfa Owner Magazine – Jan and Feb 2002. Copies of the magazines come with the car. In the 2004 Targa Newfoundland the team lead its class until the afternoon of the final day when they dropped out with a broken radiator hose.

In its heyday, the Giulietta Sprint competed in events such as the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio. It also notched up successes in the Coupe des Alpes, at Daytona and the Sebring 12 Hours, collecting nearly 500 wins along the way. Nowadays it is still a great looking and excellent handling car ideal for historic rallying or vintage racing. The seller says that it runs great and pulls very nicely, and that the Besic motor is really a dream. The interior retains the original instrumentation plus additional gauges for oil temperature and pressure, fuel pressure and water temperature.

The car has been prepared to a high standard and features the following:

In recent years the car has been driven from time to time on country roads and at a track day or two. The seller tells us that he drove it for about 45 minutes this week, dodging snow flakes, and that it is in great overall condition and still running very well. Some spares come with the car including a set of 15″ Compomotive (Campagnolo look-alike) wheels. The parking lot and underbody photographs below were taken last month.

This 1982 DeTomaso Pantera GT5 Stage 3 (VIN THPNAT09233) is offered by the original owner who took delivery from Shelton Brooks at Ogara Coach Company in Beverly Hills, California. The car is all original according to the seller, and was the subject of two iconic 80′s posters shot in Los Angeles in 1984 as shown below. The car includes proper California and DOT paperwork from new, which is very rare for a GT5, and has only 22,097 documented miles. It is available near Chico, California for $125k obo.

The info on the car was submitted by the seller’s son, who was present for the poster shoot and explains it as follows:

“My father was asked by Image Masters’ owner if he could make a poster of my dad’s car, my dad was delighted and very excited to have his car made into a poster. At age 13, I thought that this is very cool and wanted to go with my dad to the photo shoot. The day came, and we drove to Downtown Los Angeles to a warehouse where the photo shoot was to take place. We parked and entered the studio, “Wow,” I said. They were just finishing shooting a Black Lamborghini Countach. As a 13 year old, I was in heaven. Cool car artist, what a life. Well it gets better, as they get ready to set up for the Pantera photo shoot, the biggest suprise of the day… “Just to let you know we will be shooting Playboy playmate Miss Feb. 1984 with your car as a second poster.” Well, life didn’t get any better for me at age 13. That was a highlight of my childhood…”

The car was purchased new in 1983, and was a 2/1982 production unit. It has been well taken care of according to the seller, and has never needed restoration. It has the original 351 Cleveland V8, ZF 5-Speed transaxle, full leather interior, and best of all it is California smog legal. All paperwork since new is included. The car runs and drives great according to the seller.

The car had a personalized license plate for many years according to the seller, which was removed a couple years ago, which explains the more recent white plate.

This 1954 Lincoln Capri hardtop coupe is described as all stock, and the photos seem to show a well-preserved original with some desirable options including factory A/C. This seems like a ton of 2-door hardtop for the money, especially considering the ties to motorsport, the V8 powerplant, and the clean condition. Find it here on Craigslist in the Danville, California for only $13,500.

Lincoln had a strong racing presence in the early ’50s, winning its class in the Carrera Panamericana road races in Mexico three years in a row. A modern ball-joint front suspension and a 317.5-cubic-inch OHV V-8 helped make the car a formidable competitor. The two-door hardtop body style was new for ’54 and this example appears to be reasonably straight. The seller reports that the stainless steel trim is in good condition and that the floors are solid.

The interior looks quite presentable and the seat upholstery shows no major signs of wear. Lincoln interior materials reportedly were of higher quality than those used in other Ford products of the time and the fit and finish of these cars was said to be superior as well. The car has a new Smitty exhaust,  new brakes and new wheel cylinders according to the seller.

The understated dashboard employs the lever-type controls typical of Lincolns (and Mercurys) of the time. The steering wheel and dash knobs appear to be  in good shape as do the door panels and interior chrome pieces. GM’s Hydramatic automatic transmission was standard on these cars, though ’54 was the last year it was used. This car has the optional 4-way power seat.

Though the seller’s short description makes it hard to gauge the extent of this cars needs, it appears to be a very complete survivor that could be either a driver or a candidate for a full restoration. At the listed price, it could very well be worth checking out.

The second owner was a British car nut in New Jersey who did most of the restoration work. The car was shown it at the TVR Woodwork Convention, where Martin Lilley (the owner of TVR during the M-series era) signed it. We like the factory alloy wheels and twin center exhaust. New tires have recently been mounted, and the rear hatch design makes the car much more useable than some of the other TVR’s. No more loading luggage or gear between the seats to the rear compartment.

Like all TVR’s, the interior is a snug fit but this one is much more finished looking than the earlier cars. The only issues that the seller mentions are a horn with an intermittent short and the fuel gauge with limited read area (full is half a tank but the gauge does register).

The car is always detailed and maintained as part of the seller’s collection. The V6 was rated at 140 horsepower and replaced the Triumph engines in the earlier M-series cars as they would no longer meet US emission requirements. The four-speed transmission shifts great according to the seller, and the engine bay looks very clean.

I’d been collecting parts to build my own, slightly rough 1968 Bellett GT into a 1972+ Bellett GTR replica when this Jewel Green machine came up for sale.  I can’t remember where I saw it first; other people look for porn, but I think I was doing some late-night Yahoo Japan trawling, looking for sweet, sweet parts to import for the replica.

Once the GTR hit Bring A Trailer, several of my mates forwarded me the link, despite me already being a long-time recipient of BaT emails.  The more forwards I got, the more I thought that perhaps… perhaps it would be possible…

Amazingly, it took about 30 seconds to get the green light from the wife, but ONLY if I sold the 1968 Bellett GT first.  I hadn’t actually got to the stage of pulling it apart, which was a bonus.  I casually mentioned to a mate that I was selling it and he did the deal on the spot; turns out my Bellett GT, which I’d never been truly happy with, was the first Bellett GT he saw as a kid and he loved it from that moment.  It couldn’t have gone to a better home; he loves the radiused guards, the 1965 sedan front and the DOHC EFI engine conversion; all things that annoyed me because they detracted from the originality of the car and also precluded me from getting it on cheap historic registration.

Deal done, I turned to Iron Chef Imports to get the car here.  Proprietor Kristian, also a BaT’er, was the one who sent the GTR to Bring a Trailer in the first place.

The deal was done in November, I think and the car arrived a few days into January 2012.  It’s exactly as described; there’s a small amount of rust which will need attending to plus dodgy paint on the passenger side, but all up it’s an original survivor car with few changes and as far as I can tell, a genuine GTR as well.

I need to get an exhaust and the carbies tuned up; I have an original wheel and better seats; all parts I collected for my replica.  Plus I have a set of Watanabes with sick dish that will fit under the guards (just). The indicators on this late-model Bellett are red, something that is not permissible in Australia, but if I can put some amber globes in the reverse lights and get them to flash instead, that will solve the problem without ruining the look of the rear of the car. Kristian organises South Australia’s All Japan Day show, so I’ll be keen to get it along to that, registration or not; methinks it’s going to take a couple of goes to get through SA’s notoriously finicky registration inspection, but once done you will NOT get me out of the driver’s seat.

1/5/2009 Update: This Glasspar has been sold.

This 1951 Glasspar G-2 is a long-time vintage racer which is now an unrestored runner. It was once part of a 2-car team and has recently been brought back from long-term storage with new tires and vintage Torque Thrusts. It is available in Atascadero, California for $27,500.

We originally featured this car back in July when it was offered with a Vintage Racer Warehouse Sale. Since then it has been cleaned up and shaken down on the street. The windshield has also been removed in pursuit of a smoother look but the original frame and glass are included. Adding Brooklands screens would be a great period look, and it is what the seller intends.

The car sits high in the tail, but that could likely be adjusted. The rollbar has been cut out but is included. A singel hoop installed through the body might make for a more comfortable cockpit than the HSR-spec bar.

The interior is vintage looking with many round dials and a pedistal mirror. The 3-spoke wheel and Hurst shifter are keepers, and the driver seat is included.

The engine is a 390 cubic inch Ford V8, which is backed by a 3-speed manual. This wouldn’t have been available in 1951, so we’d search for a modified flathead instead of dropping our cash on a restoration of this engine.  This one does run strong enough to get the car back on the road.

This is an interesting early American sports car and the shape has huge potential. Oddly, most other Glasspars that we have seen have sat tail-low instead of the raked stance seen here. With the right stance, seats, and exhaust this car would be a sweet street machine or right at home in the paddock. It has better curves than the Atlas cars, but still this ’53 Atlas Road Racer could be used for detail inspration. The included parts are pictured below:

This thing looks cool standing still, but we’d love to hear from the seller how it is to drive. We suspect that if it gets going fast enough, that wedge nose will generate some serious lift. The burgundy color works well, and we think that photographing the car among some crisp modern buildings would flatter the design more than on a Florida residential street, but this is how the car would look in the wild.

The 351 Cleveland Ford V8 looks similar to how it would in a Pantera. We are guessing the underpinnings are scratch built and not based on a DeTomaso or other chassis. We wonder how the car is registered, as states other than the ever-permissive Florida might have a few questions.

The front view of the car is crazy, with several flaps that raise with the headlights. The rear view mirror is mounted over the windshield to allow visibility over the rear engine cover, and we don’t see any side mirrors, so that must be a keeper.

We don’t know much about the history of the car, but Sam Foose always seemed like a genuine hot rodder. We like that someone commissioned such a car and that it is actually prowling the streets, as opposed to the real Italian show cars that are all under lock and key.

1/20/2012 Update: Almost 4 years after our last feature, this 1969 Alfa Romeo racer is now being listed here on eBay in Gervais, Oregon with a Buy-It-Now of $29,500. The photos are much improved and the seller says he has run in 9 track events since his purchase.

This Alfa Romeo is prepped for SCCA B Sedan and E Production classes but also retains street title and registration. It is fresh for this season and now listed here on Craigslist from the owner for $29k.

No GT Juniors were ever sold new in the USA, but many were imported from foreign markets. The exterior is the same as the 65-67 Giulia Sprint GT’s. Any step-nose car is okay in our book. The French blue on this car is striking.

Many SCCA and lifetime racers have suffered serious abuse and damage. This car looks clean, but would only warranty the high asking price is the body is in great condition. The interior prep looks very good and the bare floorpans can’t hide rust like carpets and insulation. The dash is swapped in out of a Giulia, and the rollbar and race seat are all business.

This is a great car to take directly to the track, or make some small mods and it would be a great dual purpose car. We would like to see a set of vintage race buckets, silver wheels from Alfaholics, and a contrasting color on the nose.

$29k is pretty steep, but if you want a competitive Alfa to go racing this might be the right car.

The previous owner and the current seller brought the car back to its former glory, and it has been garage stored ever since the paint was applied seven years ago. The car is only taken out in good weather. The seller installed a rare 1750 grille with Carello headlights and added the inboard lamps like on the 2000 cars. New rubber for the doors, trunk and windows were also added. Bumpers were re-chromed along with the wipers and other small parts. The period 14¨ GB aluminium wheels were powdercoated in silver grey and fitted with new center caps.

Brakes and suspension have been sorted with new ventilated brake discs up front, Ferodo DS2500 brake pads all around and four reconditioned brake calipers with stainless steel Goodridge lines. Red Koni shocks are mounted in back, and yellow Konis are up front. Eibach springs give the car the right look, just slightly lower than stock.

The interior was completely re-trimmed in black vinyl, and new luxury door panels were added. The stock dashboard and steering wheel were restored to like-new condition, and new logos, badges, windshield, decals and original engine stickers were applied. The headliner is also very nice and the seller installed a radio cd player in the glovebox so the dashboard remains unharmed.

The car runs as it should thanks to new shocks, brake and suspension parts. The engine starts perfectly without the choke according to the seller, and it revs smoothly up to 7000 rpm. All 5 gears are said to shift smoothly. Other recent engine work includes a set of reconditioned DCOE40 Weber carbs, a tune-up for the engine, new filters, a new master brake cylinder,  and a new exhaust.

The seller lists the following as issues remaining to be resolved:

• Horn and gasoline gauge aren’t working
• Heater fan isn’t working (common on these)
• Passenger door doesn’t lock
• There is a cut in the paint in the right front fender (1 inch, see photo)
• Few scratches on the passenger door (barely visible)
