Its quite simple, really, and I know you already know the answer. We all want YOU to invest in OUR laser! Class 3 vs. Class 4, power, power density, time, penetration, burning and tissue damage, hair, price, training and so on and so forth. These are all "selling points", regardless if they are true or if they are fictitious. It is rather obvious that Scare Tactics are being used in some circumstances, 99% of which are unfounded, unresearched myth handed down without thought from company to manager to rep. This deliberate fabrication adds to the confusion, which slows the buying process, and ultimately prohibits YOU from getting a laser, earning extra revenue, and producing better patient outcomes.

The Spin Stops Here
Look, as I've stated in my book, I believe all lasers work. Some are, in fact, better than others. It really depends on what you're trying to accomplish and what the clinical need is. Sure, pricing and value are important. If you have $200-$300 monthly budget and only treat a lot of superficial conditions and wounds, then a Class IIIb is good enough. If you can invest $400-$500 monthly and want to save time as well as treat deeper pathologies such as arthritis and DJD, then a class IV is what you need. See Beer-Lambert Law. Class IVs treat everything that Class III's treat.

Burning and tissue damage: what a croc! A SURGICAL class IV was made to cut and coagulate tissue. Dont be fooled by reps that tell you that THERAPY class IVs do this. There is no proof of this. I recently was shown a picture of a human arm that the rep claimed was made by a class IV... sadly for the rep, in front of the Doctor, I Googled that same picture on my iPad (prior knowledge) and showed that it was caused by Oleylamine Chemical Burn. Ouch... oddly enough one of the applications for Class IV Therapy Lasers is burns. Go figure. If this were truly the case, then the FDA would have warning letters all over the place and there would be an outcry from the Veterinary and Medical communities. Class IV Therapy Lasers are the #1 selling piece of Capital Equipment in the VET market!

Dr Peter Weinstein, Executive Director of the largest Veterinary Medical Association in the U.S. accepts a generous contribution from K-Laser USA for $3500! There is certainly more to come as part of my agreement and concept was to give back to the community of the SCVMA members for every therapy laser investment with K-Laser. This is the initial offering in my relationship with Dr Weinstein and members to help offset association costs.

Watch for announcements regarding therapy laser WETLABs in June! Board Certified Veterinary Surgeons will present and staff members will be invited. Stay tuned.

Veterinary Information and Testimonials

How Many of Your Patients Could've Used the Laser Today?

Does Negative Selling Affect Our Investment Decisions?

Americans were recently exposed to one of the worst political seasons on record for negative advertising. Amazingly, one candidate knew that the TV ad they were running against the opponent was an outright lie, yet refused to refute his unfounded claims.

Conventional wisdom among campaign professionals is that negative ads do, in fact, work. That is, while voters might not like negative ads, their perceptions of candidates attacked in negative ads are tarnished by the information they are exposed to. However, two important qualifications must be made to this general observation. First, according to the survey data presented above, voters do not treat all negative information equally. If the allegations or information presented in a negative ad are not perceived as relevant, the effects of the ad will probably be less significant. Second, while negative ads have the capacity to weaken political support for a candidate's opponent, "going negative" in a campaign can also diminish the attacking candidate's stature among voters. There is a perceptible "backlash" effect when a candidate persistently publishes or airs negative information about his or her opponent, especially when that information is not perceived by voters as immediately relevant to the campaign.

What does it have to do with Medical Sales?

Negative selling against a competitor can work sometimes. But who wins? When we're talking about capital equipment, there can be a lot of commissions on the line for the rep. as well as tremendous buyers remorse for the Doctor.

We all know that there some reps that will do anything to get the sale... even state untruths about their competition. What if a company says they will “throw in” a competitors laser IF you buy theirs? They then would most obviously be including or selling you something that they were at first trying to counter, right? And would it come with training, manuals, warranty, parts, protocols?

Does it feel sometimes like buying a laser is like bidding on eBay? Will you be the highest bidder in the auction game?

Did you know that your company can lease equipment and still take full advantage of the Section 179 deduction? In fact, leasing equipment and/or software with the Section 179 deduction in mind is a preferred financial strategy for many businesses, as it can significantly help with not only cash flow, but with profits as well. Click here for the BEST calculator!

In general, a qualifying taxpayer can elect to treat the cost of certain property as an expense and deduct it in the year the property is placed in service instead of depreciating it over several years. This property is frequently referred to as section 179 property, after the relevant section in the Internal Revenue Code.
Under the new law, a qualifying business can expense up to $250,000 of section 179 property purchased by the taxpayer in a tax year beginning in 2008. Absent this legislation, the 2008 expensing limit for section 179 property would have been $128,000. The $250,000 amount provided under the new law is reduced if the cost of all section 179 property placed in service by the taxpayer during the tax year exceeds $800,000. This law has been extended through the end of 2010.

Essentially, Section 179 works like this:

When your business buys certain pieces of equipment, it typically gets to write them off a little at a time through depreciation. In other words, if your company spends $50,000 on a vehicle, it gets to write off (say) $10,000 a year for five years (these numbers are only meant to give you an example.)

Now, while it's true that this is better than no write off at all, most business owners would really prefer to write off the entire equipment purchase price for the year they buy it.

In fact, if a business could write off the entire amount, they might add more equipment this year instead of waiting. That's the whole purpose behind Section 179… to motivate the American economy (and your business) to move in a positive direction. For most small businesses (adding total equipment, software, and vehicles totaling less than $500,000 in 2010), the entire cost can be written-off on the 2010 tax return.
Addressing the issues of declining insurance reimbursements and finding better outcomes for patient’s has become a main concern in these challenging economic times.

Properly integrating a laser medicine program into your practice using Class IV Therapy Laser on a cash basis can not only help to deliver better medical outcomes, it may dramatically enhance your bottom line. The emerging field of high power laser medicine now offers physicians the ability to transform their facility into a specialty practice that treats medical failures. Class IV offers your profession the ability to treat medical conditions that have failed all forms of medicine, such as peripheral neuropathy, failed surgical back, disc pathology, spinal stenosis, severe degenerative joint disease and even non-healing wounds just to name a few. In order to reap the benefits of a cash practice and prosper for years to come, you need to deliver results commensurate with the remuneration you are seeking.

Unlike all other treatments available to physicians, HPLT is the only “actinotherapy” outside of ultraviolet light that results in both chemical and metabolic changes at the cellular level. This unique modality enables the physicians to actually accelerate the healing of human tissue1. Best of all, HPLT can be virtually side effect free as long as the laser beam is delivered in a safe and precise manner. The majority of high power output lasers be they surgical or therapeutic have collimated beams. Collimated beams have the potential to burn tissue because of the high concentration of the energy they put out at the skin surface. In order to prevent this phenomena, that type of laser is typically pulsed.

Economic Factors of a Cash Laser Medicine Practice
Revenues generated by laser patients can be substantial and typically exceed those which are generated by traditional insurance practices. The national per minute average for laser specialty practices ranges between $25 to $125 per session. This fee range appears to be more heavily influenced by the level of confidence the doctor has, their geographic location, and, of course, demand. Treatment times range from 3-12 minutes for the majority of conditions, but can be as high as 15 minutes for peripheral neuropathy. Typical treatment plans range from 6 visits for acute injuries and 8-10 for chronic conditions. Complicated cases of failed surgical back syndrome or peripheral diabetic neuropathy will usually require maintenence programs after initial treatment set. Maintenance doses range from 1 visit/month to 4 visits/year. Remember, in order to keep them coming back and continuing to pay, you must be able to deliver the best outcomes.

A laser capable of delivering these types of financial outcomes will cost around $12 to 50 per working day on a lease basis. Many leasing companies offer deferred lease payment programs which allow the lessee to generate cash flow before having to make their first payment. Doing the math, one can see how you can be cash flow positive in a matter of minutes. Because of Class IV's effectiveness with both acute and chronic pathologies, it’s safety, and the fact that it can be used to treat a wide array of conditions from head to toe, most physicians are discovering success in treating and marketing solely to medical failures. This is truly an untapped market where there will always be an abundance of patients desperately needing help. These conditions include post op pain syndromes, peripheral neuropathy, disc pathologies, stenosis, chronic foot and ankle pain, and degenerative joint disease. Another positive feature of a cash only practice is your patient referrals will already know beforehand that they must pay out of pocket.

Effectively marketing your laser medicine specialty practice requires strategic planning including a high return on investment advertising campaign. Also, as good as Class IV is - it’s only as good as the knowledge base of the operator using it. That is why it’s highly recommended that the practitioner and his/her staff attend continuing laser medicine educational seminars, and seek out a total laser practice management solution to move forward successfully.

Because cash practices are not at the mercy of the insurance companies and declining reimbursement 100% of services billed will be collected. Your time will now be better spent in practicing medicine and getting the results you and your patients expect and not those controlled by third party reimbursement.

In closing, if you’re looking for a program which will definitely change the way you practice medicine, the outcomes which you can achieve, as well as your financial freedom and success, then you should definitely consider implementing an Class IVtherapy laser medicine into your practice today.

Book Release on Laser Therapy

I recently released a book called Laser Therapy for Really Smart People.
It encompasses most of what Clinicians are looking for:

*Resources
*Case Studies & Abstracts
*References

Excerpt: Laser use in medicine can be as comprehensive and complex as you want it to be--from mitochondria to chromophores--or as straightforward as you need it to be.
I compiled and organized this important information because I am in the unique position of having worked for 3 of the best class IV therapy laser companies, and I thought it was time to ease some of the confusion and delusion brought about the marketplace. No proprietary secrets are revealed here, only public information and knowledge. Although there are many similarities, let me also point out that there are many distinctions that need to be made. You may or may not currently be in the market for a Class IV, but let me assure you that this is one of the best selling pieces of capital equipment today. See Rule # 1.

Over the years, when speaking with clinicians at their practices or at trade shows, I would hear statements like, “My therapy laser is great… I love it”, regardless of which laser they bought. I used to think those evaluations as very subjective, not objective. But as I advanced in the field I realized that all lasers really do work. Anyway, most clinicians will stand behind their buying decisions.

For us in the therapy laser profession, we understand that this is just the beginning, and at some point this modality will be in the majority of clinics, human and animal, available for patients seeking to quickly ease their pain. Let’s face it… this new therapy works and it makes the patient feel good in the process. We have learned that most patients will do just about anything to be relieved of pain, acute or chronic, regardless of this economic downturn. We will also cover some of the drawbacks to this type of therapy, primarily in regards to insurance reimbursement and medical billing.

Unfortunately, there are a couple misconceptions about the therapy laser. From Doctors to Reps, sometimes the desire to “sell” and promote their product can cause myths and fabrications in a competitive setting. Also, we hear things from industry pros that might not represent the entire truth. Well, I plan to uncover and explain away some of these “myths” so you have an unbiased, neutral position without spin. I will point out what we know to be true and won't shy away from problem areas.

Case studies, abstracts, peer reviewed published articles, white papers, and science: there are far too many to list here, but you can visit each laser website where you will be able to request some. I have included a white paper, a few clinical studies, and abstracts. This is merely the condensed version.
