Madonna : "Britney Spears Is Better Than Lady Gaga"

2012-02-04T12:38:00.002+08:00

Surprise, surprise.

In the March issue of The Advocate, Madonna was asked :

Advocate : What do you think of how GaGa connects with her fans, and is it parallel to the relationship you had with gay fans early on?

- Madonna pauses for a moment, composing herself -

Madonna : It seems genuine. It seems natural, and I can see why she has a young guy following. I can see that they connect to her kind of not fitting into the conventional norm. herself - I mean, she's not BRITNEY SPEARS. She's not built like a brick shithouse. She seems to have had a challenging upbringing, and so I can see where she would also have that kind of connection, a symbiotic relationship with gay men.

Britney Spears V Magazine Article

2012-01-11T21:04:00.002+08:00

Name: Britney Spears

Name of Tour: Femme Fatale

Describe your team in three words:

Britney: My second family.

What is your favorite memory so far of working with this team of individuals?
Britney: I have worked with all of them for many, many years so it was fun to see them all together again on the first day of the tour. Everybody was catching up and telling all of their fun stories from the past, laughing and just having a great time. We were all so happy to see each other again and so excited to start working. It really made me smile.

Where is the strangest place you’ve ever performed?
Britney: At a small restaurant many years ago, when I was first starting out. I just got up and sang in front of a room full of strangers. I had never done it before and it felt really weird singing in this small restaurant.

What is the most fun part of touring?
Britney: Meeting different kinds of fans from all over the world. They are so different in every country. I just did a few shows in Russia and all of the fans had big heart signs in the audience and had hearts painted on their hands. It was really cool. Also having the people I am closest to with me all of the time and staying in the same hotels every night. We have been together for many years now so we have become one big happy family.

What is the hardest part of your touring?

Britney: The actual traveling. It’s basically planes, trains and automobiles every single day. I always have fun when I get to a new city but getting from place to place can get old and boring. I read a lot of books.

Is there someone not pictured who is integral to making your show happen?
Britney: Yes a ton of people: my entire crew who builds my show, runs my show and moves my show from city to city. They work SO hard and I am so thankful for them. My band Shock and Awe made up of my longtime musical directors. Simon Ellis and Marc, my wardrobe girls who help me dress every night and keep my costumes together, my dad who keeps me on track, and of course my boyfriend, Jason, and my boys who keep me smiling every single day.

Do you have any lucky charms?
Britney: I believe I make my own luck.

What are your pre-show rituals?
Britney: I always get to the venue early to go over my show notes with my supervising coordinator and my dancers. We rehearse anything that wasn’t perfect or needs rehearsing from the show before. Then I sound check, do hair and makeup, meet and greet, and then pray with my team, my dancers, and my family.

What are some of your essential backstage items? Any special food or beverage?
Britney: Fashion magazines, good music, scented candles, veggie dip, hummus, pita bread, Shabby Chic furniture (which we take with us from city to city), a treadmill, and yoga mats.

If you could play anywhere, where would it be?
Britney: A tropical island so I can go straight on vacation after the show.

What is the biggest misconception about being backstage or on the road?
Britney: That it’s a giant, nonstop, never ending party. I mean, we do have a lot of fun backstage and we are always laughing and telling jokes and stories, but it’s mostly a large group of people working really, really hard to put on a great show every night for my fans.

Team Motto:
Britney: We have two: “you can’t make this shit up,” and “No surprises!”

Britney Spears Is Engaged With Jason Trawick

2011-12-17T01:34:00.000+08:00

Sure, it was just this week that Britney Spears' camp was denying the latest round of tabloid reports that she and her newly turned 40-year-old love Jason Trawick were engaged—but that was then. This is now.

"This is something they've both wanted for a long time," the source explains. "It's a way to cement their family. They're both extremely happy and can't wait to become man and wife." The spouses-to-be plan to celebrate their engagement Friday night at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

Spears coyly hinted at the big news on Twitter Friday morning, writing: "OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I've been waiting for. Can't wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xxo"

Though just how much of a surprise his question-popping was is unclear. According to reports, the freshly turned 30-year-old was well aware that her beau of nearly two years was planning on popping the question, as prior to the night, he asked permission both from her father Jamie Spears (aww) and her conservators (oh)

While Britney Spears was celebrating her 30th Friday by ice-skating in Houston with boyfriend Jason Trawick, her celebrity friends were sending her birthday messages or homemade videos.

"Happy birthday to the beautiful Miss Britney Spears! Welcome to the 30's club, Brit!!" Kim Kardashian told the pop star on Celebuzz. "I wish you all the best for this next year and beyond. You're going to love your 30's! I love you and hope you have a magical day."

Her response: "Next step for you are extensions!"

The pop star enjoyed reading many of the messages and watching the videos while in bed on her big day with her sons Preston, 6, and Jayden, 5. She also thanked many of her friends and fans on Twitter.

"Thank you girl. Max is so cute! Miss you. Xxoo," Spears responded to Christina Aguilera. Bass also got a special note: "You knew me when I was celebrating my 18th! Wow. Feels like yesterday," Spears wrote.

Grammys Ban Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Rihanna

2011-11-27T21:59:00.001+08:00

With only one Grammy (Best Dance Recording for Toxic), and with the new rule change it may be even harder for her to score another! Britney, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Ke$ha and Jennifer Lopez are no longer eligible for a Grammy in the Dance category.

“The Academy has decided to shift all of those artists to the Pop field, opening up the Dance field for DJs and more hardcore dance acts like Afrojack, Calvin Harris, Skrillex and Benny Benassi,” reports the Examiner.com.

The Grammys haven’t made an official announcement about the change yet, but several Academy members have confirmed being told about the change. The new policy is also confirmed by scanning the leaked list of 116 potential 2012 Grammy nominees for Best Dance Recording, which is missing all of those aforementioned pop stars.

The not so much mainstream rtists like Robyn, Dev, Kat DeLuna and LMFAO probably be nominated.

Earthquake Hit Chile - Britney Spears Panicked

2011-11-24T20:23:00.000+08:00

Britney woke up to a 5.6 earthquake at 4AM at the W Hotel in Santiago, Chile earlier this week and freaked out, according to new reports. “Britney was pale and could not manage anything. She repeated over and over that she wanted to leave and kept asking how her children were.” A security at the hotel said Britney looked “possessed,” and told her to calm down.

Another eyewitness says it looked as if Britney had never experienced a real earthquake before. After things calmed down and Brit saw her boys, she went back to sleep - with the doors open!

Stylist UK Interview: Britney Spears

2011-11-23T10:19:00.006+08:00

THE SUPERSTAR SINGER OPENS UP

Disney kid, musical superstar, mum of two; Britney Spears turns 30 in two weeks. Peter Robinson meets the cultural icon.

“I didn’t really tell someone off,” her story had begun a moment earlier. “But during one of the costume changes we couldn’t get the buttons of one of my outfits on. It was taking a really long time. Then this bracelet [jangles chunky silver bracelet] got caught on my fishnets and at the same time I’m doing this [waves arms around] and trying to get my make-up on and I’m like…” And there’s that washing machine noise again.

Britney sighs loudly and composes herself. “So in answer to your question,” which had been: When did you last tell someone off? “I didn’t really tell anyone off, but I do have my moments.”

But, although various media reports continue to throw out the same line about Britney still being slightly fragile, (despite another two sell-out world tours and launching another perfume, Cosmic Radiance), this afternoon she is animated, carefree, sharp and self-aware. She’s lightly funny too.

At one point she tells me about a dream she had two nights ago. “In my dream I needed an alarm clock,” she recalls. There is a very slight pause as she looks around, almost wishing for someone to proffer some Freudian explanation about the warping of time or the need for some sort of metaphorical ‘wake-up call’. “Maybe that was a sign that I needed to, you know, get an alarm clock,” she quips dryly.

Her biggest daily challenge, she adds, is, “trying to get up and go work out in the morning. I haven’t worked out in, like, two weeks. Sometimes it’s hard to be motivated. But once you get up and do it you feel like you’ve conquered the world.”

Can you describe your new scent?

It’s very feminine and girly. It's sweet and citrusy with a hint of my favourite scent – night-blooming jasmine. The inspirations behind it are my Femme Fatale album and empowered women.

Did you hear Jessie J saying she won’t go on stage without your perfume on?

I saw that! That’s so cool!

Why do you think your fragrances have done so well?

Some of it’s down to just taking things into my own hands. I love the process of finding all the combinations of oils and when you’ve spent so much time experimenting with them it’s exciting to find ‘the special one’.

You’ve been in the public eye for 13 years now. What does it mean to be a celebrity in 2011?

Wow. Well, I feel… [pause] Actually, let me start over. I don’t know what to say about that.

If I change that to, what does it mean to be a musician in 2011? Would that work?

That’s better! Well, it’s really cool because there are so many new, up-and-coming artists to look at and be inspired by. For me, I think it’s great to have a little competition because I feel it inspires us [Team Britney] and makes us want to do better. There are so many soulful singers, even the ones coming from London, like Adele and Jessie J, who are just amazing. It feels like a really cool time to be making music now. In the beginning obviously I was very young and I didn’t know the ins and outs of things; I was very instinctive in what I wanted to do, and I was very vocal with my input on things. I think as the years have gone by, and as I’ve evolved as an artist, I’ve put even more into my career, and after that amount of time you start to know exactly what you want. You feel a little bit more in your skin, in terms of who you are. And that just feels really nice.

Do you feel in your skin now?
Yes!

The papers are full of people who don’t really know you giving their opinion on what they think about you. But how do you think people who do know you would describe you?

People who do know me? That’s a difficult question. That is a difficult question! I don’t know. Do you think they’d say nice things? Yes, they’d say nice things.

What was the last book you read?

The Mastery Of Love [sub-titled A Practical Guide To The Art Of Relationship by Don Miguel Ruiz]. It’s basically an analysis of love and what it means to love. It goes through all the different aspects of love. Who you are as a person, knowing yourself before you even attempt to love anyone else; that sort of thing. It’s really well-written and thought-provoking.

Would you recommend it? What would I learn from it?

Yes definitely, it’s very cool. It’s not so much about learning something; it’s one of those things where you already know this stuff, but it’s good to instil it in yourself again.

You’ve said in the past that it’s a thirst for success that defines you. Has your definition of success changed over the years?

For me, success is a state of mind. I feel like success isn’t about conquering something, it’s being happy with who you are.

Is that something you’ve realised recently?

Yes.

You posted a photo on Twitter earlier this year, of you cooking with your kids at home. Your kitchen seemed really traditional. Is the rest of your house similarly decorated?

Yes, my house is very traditional. And I love ‘shabby chic’. It’s a very homey-cosy vibe. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen actually, maybe my kids will be doing their homework or that kind of thing when they get home from school. I love my kitchen.

Do you ask people to take their shoes off when they come in your house?

No.

Do you take your shoes off when you go to other people’s houses?

No.

What’s a food treat for you?

Chocolate. Definitely chocolate. A lot of chocolate.

Do you have any favourite chocolate or are you completely indiscriminate?

I love Scores in the States, with the caramel in the middle, and every once in a while if I’m really hungry then a Snickers bar is good.

So…

And M&Ms are great, Hershey’s Whoppers are great, Raisinettes…

You like chocolate.

Yeah. Twixes are great too. And the new Hershey’s Cookies & Cream, too.

What was the last film you saw?

The Never-Ending Story. I watched it with my children.

What did they make of it?

They liked it. They were scared in places. They were like, “This is scary, we don’t want to watch this”, and I was like, “It’s not scary, it’s fake, it’s a movie”. They haven’t really grasped the concept that movies are fake – they always say, “Is this real?”, and I’m like, “No, baby, it’s just a movie”. But they liked it.

So how do you explain what you do when they see it on TV? For instance, in your latest video you’re robbing a grocery shop. How do you explain to them that this person on TV is one thing but the person sitting in front of them is something else?

I think they’re starting to understand that it’s part of my work and what I do. It’s part of mommy being a performer. And being a performer, one of the things that entails is playing different characters and having fun and doing different things.

One of the big ironies of being a global pop star is that you get to travel the world but not actually see much of it like a normal person would. Is there anywhere you’ve been where you’d like to go in disguise?

Well, in some situations I’d love to be able to, y’know, put a disguise on and go to a restaurant and not be noticed. But actually it’s been pretty cool on this tour, there haven’t been that many paparazzi and I’ve been able to get out with my children and go and see a lot of things.

What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?

It would be with my children of course, and my boyfriend Jason [Trawick, also Britney’s agent], and really that’s it. We’d probably just go skiing somewhere really beautiful and have hot chocolate, in a cabin…

Are you a good skier?

No. [Laughs]. But I enjoy the process of learning. I do get frustrated when I see little kids go really fast beside me but for the most part, once you get going and you’ve got an idea of how you’re going to ski, it’s kind of fun.

When you’re performing, what are you thinking about?
What do I think about? Wow. Usually I’m so in the moment of being there with the audience that I don’t really have time to think about anything. You’re just focused on the tunes and what you’re doing and interacting with the audience and making sure you’re on cue. It’s more like a yoga state of mind, you know?

Who’d be your dream musical collaboration at this stage?

I like Gwen Stefani.

You were in The Mickey Mouse Club (1993-1995) with Ryan Gosling. What do you think of his current success?

Oh, I’m a huge fan; I think he’s amazing. I think he’s a wonderful little actor. He definitely has that ‘something’ on film; on camera, which is really cool. So I’m very happy for him.

What music are you listening to at the moment?

Well I usually listen to a lot of hip-hop in my dressing room when I’m getting ready to go on stage, so Jay-Z a lot recently. And a lot of rock stuff like Aerosmith. That really gets me going and pumps me up. And then of course, there’s Jessie J and Adele.

And finally, do you have a bucket list?

I would like to go skydiving.

The entire production will run 8 minutes, and will open the show. The introductory video will be eerie, and will feature a home video of a six year old Britney Spears playing with Barbies. This will lead into Selena Gomez singing “…Baby” in a signature school girl outfit.

Followed by Miley Cyrus, whispering “…I know I may be young…” with a snake draped around her neck. Then, Demi Lovato enters rises from the center of the stage with a sequined costume on.

As Demi’s song ends, all girls strut to left stage, put on Mickey Mouse ears and sing “3″ in a manner that will surely have people talking the next day. As their shocking performance ends, lights fade up on Katy Perry who is soon joined by Rihanna in singing “Hold It Against Me”.

As their song ends, Nicki Minaj comes from the back of the audience wearing a ringleader outfit and singing her “World Ends” verse. As she finishes, all eyes shift to Britney who performs her song with Sabi.

Before Video of the Year is presented, there will be a video monage of Britney videos with excerpts of stars thanking Britney for her contributions to music including: Miley Cyrus (confirmed), Lady Gaga (confirmed), Justin Timberlake (unconfirmed), Selena Gomez (confirmed), Joe Jonas (confirmed), Will.I.Am (unconfirmed), and Christina Aguilera (unconfirmed).

As the video ends, Madonna enters the stage, makes a brief statement and presents Britney the Lifetime Achievement Award.

2011-08-15T22:58:00.000+08:00

Britney’s MTV tribute looks amazing as dancers wear themed costumes from all of her hit singles in the promo — she even gives a nod to the King of Pop!!

Britney Spears is making it clear: she’s back and here to stay. The MTV VMAs has documented Britney’s highs and some serious lows. Whether it was her jaw-dropping performance in 2001 when she performed “Slave 4 U” with a Burmese Python or her embarrassing “Gimme Me More” spectacle in 2007 — Brit has had a tumultuous relationship with MTV performances.

But that will all change when MTV pays special tribute to Brit Brit on Aug. 28! If this 30 second clip is any indication of what’s to come — we can’t wait!
