BERLIN - Germany's president resigned Friday after a string of scandals, handing Chancellor Angela Merkel a political headache at home as she battles to lead Europe from its debt crisis.

"I am ... today stepping down from the office of federal president to free up the way quickly for a successor," Christian Wulff said in a dramatic three-and-a-half-minute televised statement from his Bellevue palace.

Germany needs "a president that enjoys the trust of not only a majority, but a broad majority of citizens," said a sombre Wulff, with his wife Bettina at his side.

"The developments of the last days and weeks have shown that this trust and therefore my effectiveness have been damaged.

"For this reason, it is no longer possible to carry out the office of president both domestically and abroad the way it needs to be done," added the head of state.

"I have made mistakes, but I was always honest," he said.

Prosecutors in the Lower Saxony state where Wulff was formerly premier said late Thursday they had asked parliament to lift his immunity in order to investigate allegations he abused his position.

Merkel's hand-picked choice for Germany's head of state has been battered by almost daily allegations in the media that he accepted favours when he was premier of Lower Saxony.

Wulff is from the same conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party as Merkel who cancelled a planned trip to Rome to meet Italian premier Mario Monti on the euro crisis to make her own statement later.

Wulff's role is largely ceremonial but carries important moral weight and the announcement by the prosecutor in Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony, marks the first time the German parliament has been asked to lift presidential immunity.

The 52-year-old president has been rocked by scandals and allegations since mid-December largely over his connections to wealthy businessmen, initially over an advantageous home loan from a friend's wife.

He then faced claims he tried to hush up the story, as well as reports of free holidays accepted from friends.

But the Hanover prosecutor's case focuses on his relationship with film producer friend David Groenewold who is also facing investigation over dealings between his firm and Lower Saxony while Wulff was state premier.

He also reportedly picked up the bill for Wulff's hotel during a short holiday in 2007. Wulff's lawyers have said he repaid the money in cash later.

Speculation about whether Wulff could remain in office reached fever pitch after the prosecutor's announcement following two months of almost daily media reports about Wulff.

"I assume that the parliamentary commission for immunity and the Bundestag (lower house of parliament) ... will vote in favour of the request by the Hanover prosecutor," deputy head of the CDU parliamentary group Michael Meister told Deutschlandfunk radio.

"It's over now, Christian Wulff must resign," demanded the influential Bild daily in a Friday editorial.

Wulff landed in hot water in December when Bild reported he had failed to declare a 500,000-euro (S$828,000) home loan at an advantageous interest rate he accepted in 2008 while premier of Lower Saxony.

He then left an angry voicemail for the paper's editor-in-chief over the story and publicly crossed swords with him over claims he had tried to hush up the article's publication.

Wulff's presidency was rocky from the start.

His election in 2010 proved humiliating for Merkel as members of her own coalition broke ranks and refused to vote for him in parliament amid a strong challenge from a former East German dissident, a political outsider.

Wulff, who had once been considered a potential challenger to Merkel, only eked out a victory in the third round.

Australian university slammed over Malaysian award

KUALA LUMPUR - An Australian university has faced online criticism since it gave an honorary degree to the Malaysian premier's wife, who has been ridiculed over reports of her excessive shopping sprees.

Western Australia's Curtin University on Friday suspended public comments on its Facebook "wall" after days of verbal attacks over the award from users in Malaysia and Australia.

The university awarded Rosmah Mansor, wife of Prime Minister Najib Razak, an honorary degree on Saturday for what it said were her contributions to early-childhood education.

Rosmah is a controversial figure in Malaysia, where she is routinely portrayed by critics as out of touch with ordinary Malaysians amid reports of her extravagant tastes, and web users have pounced on the affair.

"How much Rosmah paid for this PhD?" one Facebook user wrote on the university's page, before submissions were blocked.

Another admonished the school to "Get your fact(s) right before giving out your cheap toilet certificate."

Several Curtin degree-holders pledged to tear up their own certificates in disgust, while a separate Facebook site called "Boycott Curtin University till Rosmah Mansor's Doctorate Revoked" also was set up.

Rosmah has faced ridicule in Malaysia's independent online media over her alleged shopping exploits at a time when many Malaysians are concerned about inflation.

Recent accusations include reports that she spent tens of thousands of dollars on clothes from an Australian designer and bought a US$24 million (S$30.2 million) diamond ring and a US$200,000 designer handbag.

She has denied the accusations.

Curtin vice-chancellor Jeanette Hacket defended the degree award in a statement on Facebook, saying Rosmah "was recognised as the founder and driving force behind" early childhood centres in Malaysia.

But the school said Friday it had "no choice but to temporarily suspend comments" on its Facebook wall.

It cited "continuing infractions of our own terms of use and Facebook's terms and conditions, and the risk of breaching" Australian and Commonwealth defamation codes.

Malaysian online news portal Malaysiakini quoted Rosmah as saying her critics might be "jealous" over the degree.

"I don't want to handle personal petty issues. It is all out of frustration. It is all out of... I don't know... Maybe jealousy," she said.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has alleged that Najib and Rosmah orchestrated charges that he committed sodomy with a young male aide in 2008 in a bid to tarnish the opposition.

Anwar was acquitted in January but the government is appealing the ruling.

THE teacher at the centre of a porn scandal says he wasn't thinking when he made a sex tape with a former student.

Former Oberon High School teacher John Walsh used the humiliating saga to warn others of the dangers of putting sexual material online.

"I think if there's any message it's that there's no safe place on the internet. Where we were supposed to be, it was supposed to be a restricted site, and obviously that's leaked out, and the rest is history," Mr Walsh told Network Ten's The Project.

Mr Walsh, who was forced to resign from the Geelong school, said he'd always liked teaching but "wanted to do something else".

"Take the morality issue out of it ... , I think the hurt that it caused ... and that really affected me," he said. "I'm very fond of the school, and I didn't really want that impacting on anyone further."

The video shows Mr Walsh and his co-star, Sarah Bradford, 23, naked, engaging in sexual acts, and with her blindfolded.

The graphic film went viral on social media sites after students discovered it online.

Mr Walsh resigned from his position before a Department of Education investigation into the scandal had ended.

Ms Bradford, who joined him on the program last night, said they were not romantically involved while she was a student.

"John was my teacher but, I mean, I was friends with him when I was at school in, like, a teacher-student manner," she said.

"And then I was out of the state for two years, and then I just sent John a message, and we got together and we've been together for 18 months."

Mr Walsh, who taught media studies to VCE students, said the irony wasn't lost on him that he'd been caught out on the internet.

The teacher now saw both sides of the argument and that the scandal had polarised people.

"There's that role model position, you're kind of thrust into it whether you accept it or not," he said. "If I was a plumber this wouldn't be an issue, would it?"

But, he said, looking back, he wouldn't repeat the episode.

"Hindsight's 20-20," he said. "I wouldn't be doing that again."

The pair run a natural herb shop in Geelong called Happy High Herbs.

The saga caused a massive backlash from parents and teachers.

Some staff at Oberon High said they would refuse to work with Mr Walsh if he returned.

Threaded Comments For Blogger

Blogger has just announced the much awaited feature "Threaded Comments For Blogger" and you might have already seen it on your Blog if you are using a default Blogger Template. If you are using your own custom Template, then you will have to tweak your template for the threaded comments to appear.

This is how the Threaded Comments will look like (Screen shot taken form the Official Blogger Buzz Blog)

How to get the Threaded Comments ?

1. Make sure that you have enabled Comment Feeds

2. Use the Embedded Comment Form.

3. Now If you are not seeing the Threaded Comments, then it means that you have a customized template.

There are different methods to fix this. But before doing any of those download a backup of your Template.

On the Old UI, you can get a backup at option in Design > Edit HTML > Download Full Template

If you are using the New UI, then you can find the same at Template > Backup/Restore(Right Side) > Download full Template

Tweaks to get the Threaded Comments:

1. The simplest method is to reset each of your Widgets to default. Doing this will revert back any customization which you or the template designer has made to the Widgets.

You can reset the widgets by going to the Edit HTML page, and clicking on the link which says “Revert widget templates to default” . If you tried this and lost your Customizations, you can always get them back by re-uploading your Template using the Backup/Restoreoption

2. If you don’t want to reset the widget templates, then you will have to manually Edit your template.

Find each occurrence of this snippet

50% of S'poreans say their partners are bad in bed

SINGAPORE - According to a latest survey, Singaporeans are a hard lot to please in the bedroom.

A Durex sexual wellbeing survey found that just 58 per cent of us are satisfied in bed - making Singapore the second least satisfied country globally, just nudging out Japan, which rated an overall satisfaction level of 34 per cent.

Only half of men surveyed (54 per cent) were satisfied with their partners when it came to sexual pleasure in the bedroom. Singaporean women seemed to be slightly more satisfied with their partners, with almost two-thirds (62 per cent) claiming their partners were good at providing sexual pleasure.

It was a different story for the rest of the region, such as neighbouring Malaysia, which recorded a 85 per cent national average in satisfaction in sexual pleasure.

Indonesia came in tops on the global scale at 89 per cent satisfaction level.

Singapore's dismal ranking could possibly be due to its people lacking in the area of making their partners feel loved during sex.

The survey showed that just 66 per cent of men here and 72 per cent of women said that they felt loved by their partners during sex.

"While people in Singapore feel emotionally connected during sex, they don't seem to feel loved by their partners. Intimacy and emotional connection often play a strong role in sexual satisfaction for both men and women," said Nikhilesh Kalra, Marketing Director at Reckitt Benckiser Malaysia & Singapore.

The researchers encouraged Singaporeans to experiment and communicate more with each other when they are in bed, as this is likely to up the enjoyment factor.

On the bright side, Singaporeans appear to have a positive outlook towards sex in general.

Eight out of 10 women here and almost seven in 10 men agreed that sex is important in bringing couples closer to their partners emotionally.

At 77 per cent, respondents aged between the 35 to 49 years represented the largest group who felt closer to their partners through sex, compared to only 64 per cent of younger respondents aged between 18 to 24 years.

In addition, Singaporean men won in terms of showing a more sentimental side to their psyches, as compared to their Asian counterparts.

Close to 60 per cent of men said that feeling loved, respected and being intimate during sex is as important to men as it is to women.

This is quite different compared to countries like Taiwan, China and Indonesia, where the majority of men said intimacy during sex is more important to women than it is to men.

The survey was conducted mid to late last year to gain global consumer insights into sexual attitudes and behaviours.

Man severes own penis on V-day

A 26-year-old Chinese man cut off his penis on Valentine's Day and then jumped off a hotel building in what seemed like an attempt to end his life.

The man, only known as Zhu, had apparently picked up a knife from a street fruit stall located near Tsinghua University in Beijing.

According to Jinghua News, the fruit stall vendor said the man ran to her shop, saying he wanted to buy fruits but instead grabbed a knife, took off his pair of jeans and severed his private part.

Bleeding profusely, he ran around the campus in search of a clinic and found a dentist and asked for anesthetics to ease the pain.

The dentist could not help him because the anesthetic they had was only for teeth, said the report.

Subsequently, the injured man ran to the university hospital where a physician bandaged him up. But because he was badly wounded, they had to send him to a bigger hospital.

En route there, the man fled and was believed to have gone to a hotel building and jumped off. Hotel staff said a man entered the building and went directly to the third floor. No one spoke to him.

Police picked up his penis and sent it to the hospital where the man was being treated. However, the doctors failed to save him because his head and lungs were severely damaged and had lost too much blood.

A friend who knew Zhu said he recently graduated but had no history of mental illness.

Tsinghua University said the deceased man was not a student of the school and that the incident had nothing to do with the university.

She's a Florida girl who's comfortable in a bikini, and now 19-year-old model Kate Upton is on the cover of the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

She wears a tiny red-and-brown, sparkle-covered string bikini with a view of the waters of Australia behind her as she poses for the magazine cover, which is scheduled to be unveiled on TV Monday night onLate Show with David Lettermanon CBS.

"That was one of the first photos from the first shoot," she said in a telephone interview before the big reveal."

"It was my favourite swimsuit. ... I felt sexy in it but confident."

Upton, 5 feet 10 (1.78m), was born in Michigan but raised in Florida. Her hometown is Melbourne, on the state's east coast.

"In Florida, people walk around in their flip-flops, bikinis and jean shorts, so I'm very comfortable in a bathing suit," she said.

The 2012 magazine cover is her second time appearing in the annual SI issue that's the equivalent of the Super Bowl for models.

Last year, when Irina Shayk was on the cover, Upton was chosen as rookie of the year.

"I have had a great year," she said. "For me, this is groundbreaking."

A huge perk of the job as the official swimsuit model is visiting lovely beaches, including shoots for the magazine in Sydney and Cairns, Australia, and Apalachicola, Florida.

She said living a healthy lifestyle for her includes working out regularly with a personal trainer and watching what she eats.

But there's no special diet to prepare for a bikini shoot, she said, and she admits to splurging on the occasional ice cream or plate of fries.

Christie Brinkley and Elle Macpherson are among the now celebrity models who previously had this gig. Upton said, "I am so glad to be in their company."

A PICTURE showing the bath tub where tragic singer Whitney Houston died has emerged in the US.

It was nearly filled to the rim with water. A silver dish — believed to be a gravy boat — can be seen next to the plug hole.

The dish was understood to have been filled with olive oil, which Whitney used to keep her skin soft, according to US showbiz website TMZ.

A blue-handled hairbrush can also be seen lying on the side of the bath while a white towel is still underwater.

The photo emerged as it was announce today that Whitney's funeral will take place next Saturday.

The ceremony — sure to be attended by some of the music industry's biggest names — will take place at midday in New Jersey (5pm UK time).

Golden hearse ... Whitney Houston's body has arrived in New Jersey

The service will be held at the New Hope Baptist Chuch in Newark, where the late pop superstar first sang as a child.

Whitney's body arrived in New Jersey today and was transported in a golden hearse after being flown by private jet from Los Angeles.

Mystery still surrounded the cause of her death last night.

But according to reports, her family were told the 48-year-old may have died before she became fully submerged — after consuming a combination of drugs and booze.

The star's body arrived at Whigham Funeral Home in her home state today as plans were under way for the singer's funeral.

The star's family is considering holding her funeral in an 18,000-seat arena on Friday.

And it emerged last night that pill bottles found in her room were from the same pharmacy that supplied Michael Jackson. Cops were reported to have said they were from the Mickey Fine chemists. It was where Jacko got Demerol and other drugs.

One theory also being considered was that singer Whitney had a heart attack caused by a reaction to the binge cocktail.

It is believed only a small amount of water was found in her lungs. Los Angeles cops obtained a search warrant and are said to have found SIX prescription pill bottles — Xanax, Lorazepam, Ibuprofen, Midol, Amoxicillin and Valium.

Night out ... Whitney Houston last week

Meanwhile, pictures emerged yesterday showing a meal Whitney had moments before her death. The star ordered a hamburger, fries, a turkey sandwich and jalapenos, according to reports.

She ate her burger and chips, but took the rest into the bathroom.

One chilling image showed her food tray discarded on the bathroom floor soaked in water after the desperate struggle to revive her. Other lunch remains were pictured strewn on a table with an empty Champagne glass and can of beer.

County coroners will request copies of Whitney's medical records to cross-reference with the prescription bottles, a source told The Sun.

Police could charge anyone who gave Whitney drugs illegally before her shocking death — just as in the case of Jacko's doctor.

Last meal ... remnants of singer's final lunch

The source said: "Investigators will speak to her doctors. Even though it appears to be prescription pills that may have killed her as opposed to illegal street drugs, the authorities need to be satisfied she had these drugs in her possession legally.

"They need to determine that no one is criminally negligent. There could still be charges in this case."

The Sun told yesterday how Whitney went on a 48-hour booze binge before she died. She was shown looking wasted on one of the nights out.

LA's Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter yesterday confirmed the mum of one was found in the bath — but insisted that it was too soon to determine the cause of death before the results of toxicology tests.

He said: "We are awaiting the results of toxicology tests. We do not know yet (the cause of death)." Asked about reports the singer was dead before her head went under the water, Mr Winter said it was too early to be sure — and he had NOT told Whitney's family this.

He said an autopsy on the divorced diva had already been done.

And yesterday her body was taken from an LA funeral home to a local airport. It is then thought it was loaded aboard a private jet owned by actor Tyler Perry and flown home to Whitney's native New Jersey.

LA officials are cracking down on a prescription drug epidemic.

Such drugs were blamed in recent years for killing a string of celebrities — including Jacko, former teen idol Corey Haim, Clueless actress Brittany Murphy and glamour girl Anna Nicole Smith.

Luxury ... bathroom in hotel where star stayed

Last year Jackson's personal doctor Conrad Murray, 58, got four years' jail for involuntary manslaughter after a court heard he killed the 50-year-old Thriller superstar with a cocktail of prescription drugs in 2009.

Tests on Whitney's body confirmed there was water in her lungs.

But medical examiners will need to determine exactly how much before they can officially rule whether she died from drowning.

THIS Olympic swimmer gave his girlfriend the perfect Valentine's gift — by proposing on the winner's podium.

Matt Grevers won the 100-metre backstroke on Saturday night at a Missouri swimming gala.

He waited for the silver and bronze medallists to leave the stand, and dropped to one knee before popping the question to fellow US national swimmer Annie Chandler, 24.

Matt, 26 — who won two gold medals in the 2008 Olympics — had help from his brother Andy, who is an assistant swimming and diving coach at the University of Missouri.

He slipped his brother the diamond engagement ring before Matt went to collect his medals.

Woman traumatised after swallowing 3cm long needle at dentist

Suffering from a toothache, a 23-year-old hotel employee went to a dentist, only to narrowly escape death from accidentally swallowing a 3cm long needle which almost punctured her small intestine.

Ms Yang told Chinese daily Wanbao that she visited a dentist for a toothache in her left jaw. As the dentist said the decayed tooth could not be extracted immediately, the dentist used a 3cm long needle to clean the roots of her teeth.

According to her, the dentist, who was not named, kept spraying medicated water into her mouth, which caused her to choke.

She then sat up coughing, not realising the needle was still in her mouth. As a result, she swallowed the needle.

Ms Yang said she strangely did not feel any pain at that time or any sensation of the needle stabbing her throat.

She claims that the dentist did not take action to remedy the situation immediately, and only told her what had happened after a five minute discussion with his assistant.

Shocked, she questioned whether there would be any danger to her life.

The dentist then assured her that if the needle is naturally excreted, there would be no problem. However, he later advised her to get an X-ray.

That night, she said she started to experience a sharp pain in her abdomen. Feeling uneasy, she went to the clinic the next day to complain.

Accompanied by the clinic assistants, she went to a hospital for an X-ray, where they confirmed the presence of the needle in her small intestine.

The hospital staff added that if the needle were to be allowed to be naturally excreted, it would pose the danger of puncturing the small intestine.

Forever traumatised

She was immediately sent for an emergency operation.

She was hospitalised for three days and later took two weeks of medical leave. She spent a total of $4,000 in medical bills, borne by the clinic.

Ms Yang from China claims the events left her traumatised and suffering from depression.

"I only dared to tell my parents what had happened after the operation. Every time I think that I am still young, and uncertain whether there will be future side effects, my emotions will become unstable and I will become depressed," she said.

She said she has been dealt such a blow that she keeps crying. Having loss her appetite, she also has lost 4kg and now only weighs 44kg.

The surgery has also left her with three scars, with the largest being 7cm long.

She has asked for $10,000 in compensation from the clinic. However, as the clinic is only willing to pay $8,000, the two sides are still negotiating.

Ms Yang said she earns a basic salary of $600, and has to work overtime to hit a thousand dollars, the majority of which she sends home.

Although she did not have to pay for her medical expenses, she wants compensation for the time taken for her recovery, as she could not earn overtime pay.

She said she has asked for $10,000 as compensation for both her economic loss and mental trauma.

The clinic at first offered to compensate $5,000, but later upped the amount to $8,000.

Deaf girl kept in cellar as sex slave

Locked in a cellar where she was allegedly raped and beaten for nearly a decade, a young deaf and mute Pakistani woman told a UK court on Monday how she was trafficked into Britain and forced to work as a virtual slave.

The woman, whose age is not known, said she was around 10 when she was brought to the northern city of Manchester as a domestic servant in 2000.

She cannot be identified for legal reasons.

A Pakistani couple - 83-year-old Ilyas Ashar and his wife, 66-year-old Tallat Ashar - are charged with false imprisonment, human trafficking, sexual offences, violence and benefit fraud.

Both have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Speaking through an interpreter and using sign language, the woman - thought to be 19 or in her 20s - described how she was allegedly hit with a rolling pin while forced to work for no money, made to sleep on a concrete floor in a bolted cellar and sexually abused.

When I first had sex years back, I was so tense it took 15 tries before he could enter.

Since then, I’ve always felt a sharp stab in my vagina during penetration.

I eventually realised my symptoms mirrored vaginismus, a condition in which vaginal muscles clench involuntarily due to fear.

Lately, the pain had become so bad even lubricant didn’t ease it. I’d read that hypnotherapy, a cross between hypnosis and psychotherapy, could help, though

I feared it’d leave me in a zombie-like daze. But I was desperate.

Hypnotherapist Katherine Wong quickly corrected me: I wouldn’t be in a trance but a state of deep relaxation.

Why did I need this? Apparently, my early experiences of sex had “conditioned” me into relating it to pain, making my muscles tense up.

Katherine would plant positive messages about sex in my mind when I was relaxed and mentally receptive. I would also have to reflect on those messages so they would be etched in my mind, a process called “self-hypnosis”.

For the session, I sat in a comfortable armchair, my eyes closed and the lights dimmed. I was asked to picture tranquil scenes, like walking through a garden, and I dimly heard her tell me to “practise” lulling my body into this relaxed state during sex.

She also told me to mentally “lock” all my bad sex experiences in a “filing cabinet” and walk away, and to “imagine how you want sex to be”.

After what seemed like 20 minutes, she told me to “wake up”. I opened my eyes and was shocked to see an hour had passed.

My second session three days later was weirder. Katherine told me to imagine my vagina to be wet and lubricated during sex. I had to visualise it as a rose, petals unfurling and “welcoming” my guy. These images would distract me whenever my mind fixated on pain, letting me enjoy sex.

That weekend, I willed my body into a relaxed state before bed, while my guy was in the bathroom. By the time he joined me, I felt ready.

There was a slight twinge on penetration but less acute than before.

Strangely, picturing blossoming flowers was helping me re-focus whenever I fretted about pain. I didn’t climax, but my body felt “looser” and more receptive to touch.

Each time after, I found it easier to shut out any discomfort and be in the moment. I also felt adventurous enough to try a new position.

Within 20 minutes, I had an orgasm. At last!

On hindsight, hypnotherapy taught me not to let pain dominate sex and overcome it. No multiple orgasms yet, but we’re working on it.

A series of nude and sexy photographs of a popular Chinese blogger has been leaked onto the Internet.

The pictures of Yan Hua Meimei (Fireworks Sister) were first posted online by netizens earlier this year.

Very soon, they were circulating like wildfire.

The blogger, Yan Hua Meimei, whose real name remains a secret, re-posted them on her weibo.

A series of nude and sexy photographs of a popular Chinese blogger has been leaked onto the Internet.

The pictures of Yan Hua Meimei (Fireworks Sister) were first posted online by netizens earlier this year.

Very soon, they were circulating like wildfire.

The blogger, Yan Hua Meimei, whose real name remains a secret, re-posted them on her weibo.

"This is my private life, it has got nothing to do with my personality and social status," she said.

Later, the blogger posted a nude photo of herself on weibo but the nipples were censored, saying that she would put up the uncensored one if the post was forwarded 5,000 times.

So far, there is no sign of the uncensored picture.

Yan Hua Meimei, a white collar worker in Chengdu, gained popularity while supporting her football idol, Sun Xiang, during the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying rounds.

"I will post an equal number of my sexy photos as many times as Sun Xiang (of China PR national football team) plays," she wrote on her blog.

Since then, she has been called "The woman who will strip for Sun Xiang".

On March 2007, her name was searched more than 6,000 times a day on Baidu, overtaking all the popular celebrities in China.

Weighty problem: Keith Martin, who eats eight hotdogs for breakfast, is putting extra strain on the NHS

A Briton who devours eight hotdogs for breakfast has won the dubious accolade of being named the world’s fattest man.

Keith Martin, 42, tips the scales at 58 stone, and is so large that he is bed-ridden.

His needs are putting an extra drain on NHS resources and costing the taxpayer thousands of pounds as he requires an army of 18 medical professionals to look after him, including ambulance staff, carers and nurses.

Eight ambulance workers must be on hand to help hoist his giant frame to a reinforced vehicle for frequent hospital visits close to his home in Harlesden, North-West London.

Trips for health checks are the only occasions in the past ten years on which he has left his bed. He also requires four carers to visit him twice a day and four nurses three times a week to wash him and monitor his health as his staggering weight is putting massive strain on his heart and other internal organs.

Medics say he would need to shed half his bulk before he could even be considered for a gastric band to aid his weight loss.

Mr Martin took the crown of heaviest man on the planet after the previous title-holder – a 90-stone Mexican – went on a crash diet. Manuel Uribe, 44, is still listed as the heaviest man in the Guinness Book of Records but is believed to have shrunk to a relatively svelte 31st 6lb. Mr Martin has also overtaken another former world’s heaviest man, fellow Brit Paul Mason.

Mr Mason, a 51-year-old former postman from Ipswich, slimmed down from 70st to 49st after being warned he was dangerously close to death.

At the height of his binge-eating, Mr Mason would consume in excess of 20,000 calories per day and would be wheeled to local takeaways daily by his carers.

By 2002, he was so big that a 5ft window at his former home had to be removed and a forklift truck brought in to lift him when he needed to go to hospital for a hernia operation.

But the subsequent fitting of a gastric band coupled with a healthy diet finally saw him reach a manageable weight.

Super-sized Mr Martin seems to have no plans to follow Mr Mason’s lead, and tells a Channel 5 documentary, due to be aired next week, that his life of excess was triggered by the death of his mother when he was a teenager.

‘My mother died when I was 16 and I didn’t care about anything after that and I couldn’t care less about what happened to me – I ate anything and everything,’ he said.

‘I blame myself. It was my fault and I hate what I have done to myself.’

Mr Martin has not had a girlfriend for 20 years and can no longer find clothes that fit him, as he is 5ft 9in with a six- foot waist.

He relies on round-the-clock support from carers and relatives with his two sisters taking it in turn to carry out house visits. He spends his days watching television and gorging on sweets, cakes, biscuits and sausages.

Mr Martin is one of several morbidly obese Brits to appear in the TV programme Big Body Squad, which aims to raise awareness of the plight of more than a million similarly overweight people who cost taxpayers millions of pounds in home help costs every year.

A couple in Texas, US, induced the birth of their baby girl so that her father could hold her before he died.

The girl's mother, 31-year-old Diane Aulger, had her labor induced in January after her husband, Mark Aulger, was diagnosed with colon cancer in April, theAssociated Press reported.

While Aulger's diagnosis improved after Surgery and chemotherapy, he developed pulmonary fibrosis.

The couple, from The Colony, learned on Jan16 that the condition, which thickens the lungs, was terminal and that Aulger had only five or six days to live, APreported.

As their daughter wasn't due for another two weeks, they decided to have the labor induced.

The girl, named Savannah, was born Jan 18, with Mark Aulger in the room, according to ABC News.

Diane Aulger said her husband held Savannah for 45 minutes, but that "he cried and he just looked very sad."

"If she cried, he would shake his head and moan," she told ABC News.

The next day, her husband was only able to hold Savannah for a minute before he slipped into a coma.

"I put her on him when he was in the coma a few times and his hand would move toward her," Diane Aulger said.

Mark Aulger died five days later at age 52.

The Aulgers have two other children, ages 10 and 7, while Diane Aulger also has a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old.

An autopsy was completed Sunday, assistant chief coroner Ed Winter told journalists, but the cause of the 48-year-old's death would not be known until further toxicology tests were completed in about to six to eight weeks.

Winter said foul play was "not suspected at this time," and that Houston's body showed no visible signs of trauma.

The autopsy was performed at the request of detectives investigating the circumstances of Houston's death, the BBC reported.

Winter would not comment on rumors that Houston had drowned in the bathtub, and was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol:

"I'm not going to comment on any of the meds or prescriptions that were obtained. I'd just comment that she was found in the bathtub ... I believe somebody removed her from the bathtub and the paramedics didCPR on her."

A 32-year-old model who held the record for the world’s largest implants has walked away from a car crash after her breasts acted as an airbag.

Sheyla Hershey, who has 38KKK breasts, was driving home near Houston, Texas, after a Super Bowl party on Sunday when she crashed into a tree.

The mother was charged with drunk-driving after the incident and allegedly was not wearing a seatbelt when she lost control of her Ford Mustang.

‘I think my breasts saved my life,’ she told Barcroft Media. ‘The accident was bad and my boobs are sore, but they protected the rest of me.’

Her car spun around and hit a tree during the crash but she denied the drunk-driving charge in court on Monday, reported the Daily Mirror.

Despite the crash Hershey, who once had 38MMM breasts, avoided injury because her huge bust protected the rest of her body from harm.

She claimed she doesn’t ever drink alcohol and passed the breathalyser test issued by police, reported the New York Post.

She told Radar Online that she took drugs for her bipolar, depression, headaches and backaches, which may have caused the confusion.

Texas law states you can be charged with driving while intoxicated if you are impaired by drugs or legal medications even within the legal limit.

‘The state will now have to prove that the medication caused impairment,’ her lawyer Paul Kendall told Radar Online.

Hershey was released on bail and is due to appear in Montgomery County Court next month on March 28, reported the Daily Mirror.

Montgomergy County Court records show Steinberg lives in Humble, 20 miles north of Houston, and her case was heard by Judge Keith Stewart.

A request for comment and more details on the case today to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office by MailOnline was not immediately returned.

Hershey lost her 38MMM breasts due to a life-threatening infection, before having new implants that made her feel ‘almost whole again’.

An infection that set in after her 30th breast enlargement operation led 5ft 3in Hershey to undergo an emergency operation in June 2010.

That left her with unattractive sagging skin where her implants had been, but she was obsessed with maintaining her Guinness World Record.

‘Not having my breasts was killing me, I didn’t know if I could make it through 2012 without them,’ Hershey said last November.

‘My breasts had become part of me and I was deformed without them. It is a miracle. I never thought I would have my breasts back again.’

She ignored the wishes of doctors and her husband Derek, 29 – who all feared the trauma of yet more surgery could cause a new infection.

Hershey organised a tour of cosmetic surgery practitioners in Latin America last September and went to Cancun,Mexico, for the operation.

She had 2,500cc of saline liquid implanted into her breasts, before having more saline gradually introduced in her hometown of Vitoria, Brazil.

‘I increased slowly over a two-month period and now my breasts are back at 4,300cc of liquid and are 38KKK,’ Hershey said.

Hershey, who has spent $100,000 in a decade to maintain her breasts, wants more surgery this year to take her breasts back up to 38MMM.

Kyle Dyer gets bit by dog live

Max, a 3-year-old Argentine Mastiff, fresh off his rescue from the icy waters of Smith Reservoir, has bit veteran KUSA anchor Kyle Dyer on the face during a segment being filmed at at 9News studios this morning.

Thankfully, 9News reports that Dyer is “currently in fair condition and is being evaluated by the trauma team. She is awake and visiting with family who asked that we thank the community for their immediate outpouring of support.”

The dog, it’s owner and the firefighter involved in the Smith Reservoir rescue Tuesday afternoon were in 9News studios with Dyer for a follow up report on the dramatic rescue, according to The Denver Post. In the videobelow, Dyer is seen kneeling on the floor petting the dog’s neck and getting close to it’s face, when suddenly Max, perhaps still traumatized from the rescue, bares his teeth, lunges and bites Dyer’s face.

On the 9News Facebook page, viewers reacted to the bite with sympathy for Dyer’s injury. Some expressed that it might have been too early to put the dog on television or that perhaps Dyer may have been too close to the dog’s face and that his “reaction was out of trauma.”

The 85-pound Argentine Mastiff is lucky to be alive after being rescued from the freezing cold waters of SmithReservoir, Tuesday afternoon.

The 3-year-old dog was off-leash “doing his business,” according to 9News when he saw a coyote running out of a bush. Max took after after the coyote and both Max and the coyote wound up on the ice of the Smith Reservoir.

Unfortunately for Max the ice didn’t hold up and only seconds later both he and the coyote fell into the icy water around 5 p.m. as the sun was beginning to set. Max’s owner Michael Robinson told 7News that the coyote went under the icy water and was not spotted again, however Max kept paddling and was able to stay afloat.

Max paddled for about 20 minutes before the West Metro Fire Department came to the rescue. As seen in thevideo above, firefighter Tyler Sugaski, in a special cold-water rescue suit and tethered by a rope, waded over to the water’s edge until he finally broke through the ice and fell into the frigid water himself.

Sugaski, who had trained for this kind of scenario, but had never been faced with performing it in the real world, Fox31 reports, broke through the remainder of the ice with his arms and inched closer and closer to Max who began to paddle towards Sugaski. Sugaski told Fox31:

It was clear Max was slowing down. He knew the minute I got in it was safest to come towards me.

Once Sugaski had a good hold on Max, he and the dog were towed in via the tether line attached to Sugaski. Sugaski helped hoist Max onto more solid icy ground and after a few shakes Max ran toward another firefighterfurther up from the reservoir ice and simply sat down, taking a much deserved rest.
