Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has organized a well-designed plan for not only placing the companies into the hands of the government for reorganization but restored the ability of the principles of free-market competition to prevail. By limiting the power of these greedy giants with unfair advantages, it will allow competition and innovation back into the industry and ultimately, fair practices and better pricing and safe guards for the consumer.

Until it does. Just this week I received an automatic email from my bank that a bill was paid from automatic deduct. That would have been okay except the only authorized bill I pay from that account always comes out on the 1st of the month and this was the 12th of the month! I immediately checked my online statement and there were 4, unknown to me, payees about to receive over $7000 from my account! Luckily, I caught the error quickly and reported it. There was still some inconvenience (like having to close the account, open a new one, contact outstanding checks and explain the situation), but nothing like it would have been if I hadn’t opened that email.

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don’t know what you guys are paying for gasoline, but here in California, we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money’s worth for every gallon.

Tip #1
Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground, the more dense the gasoline. When it gets warmer, gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening, your gallon is not exactly a gallon.
