Time To Celebrate…..almost

It’s not time to pop the champagne, but it may ease the jitters felt by millions of homeowners, lenders, realtors now that the Feds have moved forward on a necessary takeover and restructuring of the mortgage giants, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has organized a well-designed plan for not only placing the companies into the hands of the government for reorganization but restored the ability of the principles of free-market competition to prevail. By limiting the power of these greedy giants with unfair advantages, it will allow competition and innovation back into the industry and ultimately, fair practices and better pricing and safe guards for the consumer.

IDENTITY FRAUD - What a Nightmare!

It’s one of those things you hear about and always think happens to other people, not you. Until it does. Just this week I received an automatic email from my bank that a bill was paid from automatic deduct. That would have been okay except the only authorized bill I pay from that account always comes out on the 1st of the month and this was the 12th of the month! I immediately checked my online statement and there were 4, unknown to me, payees about to receive over $7000 from my account! Luckily, I caught the error quickly and reported it. There was still some inconvenience (like having to close the account, open a new one, contact outstanding checks and explain the situation), but nothing like it would have been if I hadn’t opened that email.

In case you don’t know who he is, check out one of the cable channels and watch some episodes of “The Beverly Hillbillies”. Ole’ Jed figured it out long ago that if you discover oil in your yard or a pile of dough under the mattress, “California is the place you want to be…”

The news on the housing market continues to paint a bleak picture and if the information is to be believed at face value, every other home on every block is in foreclosure. But, let’s take a closer look and put those numbers into perspective.

Getting The Most From Your Gas Dollars

As we all suffer and agonize over the rising cost of gas and all the ripple effects throughout the economy, here are a few good tips most people do not know. If the price of a barrel of oil does hit $200 as some have predicted, these useful hints will be more important than ever.

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don’t know what you guys are paying for gasoline, but here in California, we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money’s worth for every gallon.

Tip #1
Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground, the more dense the gasoline. When it gets warmer, gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening, your gallon is not exactly a gallon.
