Shirley Frimpong-Manso and Husband, Ken Attoh, owe The Royal Bank

Ghana’s finest movie director, Shirley Frimpong Manso and her husband, Ken Attoh have defaulted on their loan payment to The Royal Bank Ghana.

The photos and names of the debtors were published in the Daily Graphic on Thursday (June 7, 2018).

There were 15 others whose details were also published as part of the defaulters.

The amount they owe was not disclosed. However, a note which accompanied the publication said that “this is a notice to the Directors of Companies who have defaulted their loan repayment to The Royal Bank Limited. The Bank reserves the right to take any appropriate action to recover the debt owed,” it added.

Some of the other defaulters are said to be Directors at Kamsak Limited, Alistel Enterprise, Kron Capital amongst others.

DJ Khaled and Kendrick Lamar lead the nominations for this year's BET Awards.

Khaled is up for six trophies, with his hit collaborations "Wild Thoughts," anchored by Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, and "Top Off," which features Jay-Z, Future and Beyoncé, leading the way. The producer is up for the night's highest honors, album and video of the year, as well as the viewer's choice award.

Lamar follows with five nods, including two for album of the year with his Grammy Award-winning "Damn." — the first recording outside of classical or jazz to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for music — and the soundtrack to "Black Panther" that he oversaw.

Migos and Sza follow with four nods apiece.

BET's annual telecast celebrates black excellence in music, film, TV, sports and philanthropy and will air live June 24 from the Microsoft Theater at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

UK based Ghanaian afrobeat artist Eugy has dropped off new visuals for his single "Tick Tock".

Bringing pure heat straight from the motherland, the Ghanaian singer drops vibrant new visuals to match the summery single. The song was produced by Team Salut, a collective of producers who are known for recruiting serious anchors to carry forward the UK afro sound.

The video consists of Eugy being the class clown and leading the rest of his pack out into the sun where we see some serious choreography from both the locals, dancers and Eugy himself.

The family of DJ Abrantee have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money and awareness following his unfortunate stroke.

The DJ, who's been putting on for UK music - particularly afrobeats - for years with his Capital Xtra show, suffered from a stroke last year and has since began a miraculous recovery.

The page was created "to give close friends, family and colleagues an opportunity to also support with messages or small donation to support our dear brother, friend, father, son, uncle as he endures the biggest challenge of his life after suffering a Stroke at home."

A stroke is a serious life-threatening medical condition that occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. There are approximately 152,000 strokes in the UK every year. That is more than one every five minutes.

People who survive a stroke are often left with long-term problems caused by injury to their brain. Some people need a long period of rehabilitation before they can recover their former independence, while others never fully recover and need support adjusting to living with the effects of their stroke.

A few days ago, in an interview with Kassapa FM, Ghana's Dance Hall Artist Shatta Wale indicated that in his opinion, Wizkid isn't the biggest artist in Africa and that he doesn’t rate him as a superstar.

In the wake of support and disapproval, Nana Asare Baffour, a Ghanaian music follower, has added his opinion to the ongoing brouhaha. According to him, Shatta Wale is frustrated by his inability to break into the Nigerian market hence the 'senseless rant'.

I wouldn't call myself a Wizkid fan but Ojuelegba is 🔥...

I wouldn't go as far as calling myself a dancehall fan although Buju Banton and Damian Marley would comfortably find seats on my 10 favourite artist list. My idea of a cleaner dancehall (minus homophobia, pussy touting and glorification of violence) will struggle to find appeal among the hardcore dancehall fans where such themes are commonplace.

In the spirit of full disclosure, Shatta isn't exactly my style but I don't hate him. I love a rebellious character and I respect shatta's hustle... I don't like 'Kpukpa'; I don't like 'Kakaii'; but I like 'Ayoo'; I like 'Forgetti'; I like 'Dancehall King'.

That being said, do I consider Wizkid a superstar? Yes! Does Shatta Wale consider Wizkid a superstar? No! Do I have a problem with that? No!! The term superstar is a subjective one... Shatta Wale is a superstar relative to the Ghanaian market (probably the biggest at this moment in time) but I honestly don't believe his superstardom is replicated on a continental level. Wizkid is a superstar in both his home country and beyond. Go to the US and mention Wizkid and Shatta and see who is readily recognised. So why are we all being invited to a fight that does not exist?

Wizkid has not disrespected Ghanaian music. If Shatta Wale feels that he is a superstar and Wizkid is not, should we all be invited to agree with Shatta because we're Ghanaian? Should we necessarily agree to bogus machinations from Shatta fans that he's the second greatest dancehall act of all time because we are Ghanaian. Is that our way of promoting our artists? Did the Osibisa's of yore need any such blind patriotism to climb the heights they did? We pushed Sarkodie when he was making good music but even more important than our push was the fact that Sarkodie's music had an identity which appealed to fans outside Ghana. Before Sarkodie, the likes of VIP and TicTac before them had comfortably broken into the Nigerian market without any such blind patriotism. So why are we somehow being guilted into feeling that we fall short on the patriotism scale simply because we will not join Shatta Wale to fight a stupid war?

Shatta Wale should get his act together and earn his recognition. He should not push same on us. All the plenty Naija music on our airwaves is not for me. But I like my 'Ojuelegba', it is more African than anything I've heard from Shatta Wale. That song simply speaks to my soul and I'll not be pressured into denouncing the artist because he's not Ghanaian. I don't like Davido, I like my Kwaadee. I will tell my Naija friend that I'll choose Kwaade over Davido any day (and I genuinely believe same to be true) but it will be the height of stupidity to claim Kwadee is a superstar and Davido is not. It's just not true and I'll not be pressured into thinking otherwise. 'De3 )foro duapa na y3 pia no'. If Shatta is up for an international award against Wizkid, Shatta gets my vote hands down no matter how disagreeable I find his music. That is what I call supporting my own. Not to support some senseless rant from an artist who is frustrated by his inability to break into a market which other Ghanaians have already broken into.

Shatta Wale should focus on making music that naturally appeals to people outside his comfort zone.

Stormzy, Lethal Bizzle and Big Shaq win big at the third GRM Daily Rated grime awards

Stormzy, Lethal Bizzle and Michael Dapaah aka Big Shaq were among the winners at the GRM Daily Rated awards, which celebrate the UK's grime scene.

Hosted by Manny Norte and Joelah Noble, the event saw artists recognised at London's Roundhouse venue in categories such as best album, video and best track. It's one of the only award ceremonies that lets fans decide the winners.

Stormzy took home two awards including artist of the year and best video for Big For Your Boots.

"This is incredible, I feel like it is very important. I wouldn't say it's more important than any other year but we all have a role to play. We're going to grow in our own time." Stormzy told reporters.

His debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, was released in February and was the first grime record to reach number one in the UK album chart.

Speaking from the stage, he said: "There have been so many artists that have inspired me in my career and I've worked very hard this year so thank you. I love you guys."

The best DJ award went to Radio 1 and 1Xtra's Charlie Sloth.

"For me it's just beautiful. The scene over the last three years here has just gone from strength to strength. "You look at what happened in the States 30 years ago, that's what's happening here right now," he said.

London MC, Lethal Bizzle was delighted to be recognised by the fans in the prestigious Legacy category.

He said: "I want to dedicate the award to everyone in the room right now, from artists in the UK to everyone in the industry from the radio stations to all the DJs, the press - a big shout out to my manager as well.

"This is the most important thing I've won in my career, so thank you!"

‘Despacito’ is the new most-watched YouTube video ever with more than 3 billion views

Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito ft. Daddy Yankee” is not only the most-streamed song of all time, it also is the most-watched YouTube video ever, surpassing more than 3 billion views on the Alphabet-owned video site.

The previously most-watched video, Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” held the crown for just over three weeks, though Despacito’s reign will likely be much longer given just how quickly it has managed to dominate the service.

The Spanish-language music video has managed to rack up this mind-boggling amount of views in less than seven months, much quicker than the 26 months it took Wiz Khalifa’s song to overtake Psy’s “Gangnam Style.” Since its release on January 12, it has been watched nearly 15 million times every day, or 170 times per second. A remixed version of “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber has nearly 500 million views as well.

The significance of the top video of all-time being Spanish-language shows just how global YouTube’s reach has managed to become. YouTube announced this summer that it has more than 1.5 billion monthly logged-in users watching an average of one hour per day of mobile video.

Mr. Eazi Is Apple Music's Newest 'Up Next' Artist.

The Nigerian Afrobeat musician is latest in the streaming service's emerging artist series.

Mr. Eazi, a much buzzed-about Nigerian afrobeat artist who has worked with WizKid and has ties to Drake's OVO crew, is Apple Music’s latest ‘Up Next’ Artist, the music streaming platform’s emerging artist franchise. The announcement coincides with a new Mr. Eazi documentary (clip below), a live performance and a Beats 1 interview with Julie Adenuga, all to be featured exclusively on Apple Music.

As with Apple Music’s previous “Up Next” artists, Mr. Eazi will also appear live on Late Late Show with James Corden scheduled for this evening (July 26). The streaming service will promote Mr. Eazi’s songs on its playlists and on the iTunes store.

Apple launched its monthly Up Next series in April 2017 with 6lack (aka Ricardo Valdez), a 24-year-old rapper and singer from Atlanta. He was followed by Norwegian singer-songwriter Sigrid in May and rising R&B star Khalid in June.

In keeping with Up Next’s penchant for artists who are not totally unknown but have something of a track record and social media traction, several of Mr. Eazi’s YouTube tracks have already received multi-million views, including "Leg Over" with 15.6 million streams and “Hollup (Fun Video)” with nearly 10 million. Additionally, Mr. Eazi's had shout-outs by prominent artists, including Rita Ora and Travis Scott, had writing sessions with Rudimental and Ellie Goulding and worked with several Toronto-based artists and/or producers including Nineteen85, Big Lean, Di Genius and Dre Skull.

Mr Eazi (née Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade) was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria before moving to the outskirts of Lagos when he was four years old. He attended university in Kumasi, Ghana, which had a major influence on the evolution of his Banku sound, which fuses elements of music from both Nigeria and Ghana.

He released the mixtape About to Blow in 2013 which contained songs like “Pipi Dance” and “Bankulize,” and in February 2017 dropped Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 - Accra to Lagos.

The recent rise of other African artists including Wizkid, Davido, and Tekno, who have all signed global deals with Sony, has had the music business looking to Africa for the next breakout artists, which Mr. Eazi would seem primed for.

In honor of his 30th birthday, the Philadelphia rapper flew from Miami to the Dominican Republic, filming a music video for his latest single in the process.

Directed by Will Ngo, the fun-filled clip begins with some serious reflections from Mill. “I never thought I’d turn 30,” he says. “When you’re 17, you be like, ‘I wondered what I’m gon’ be like when I’m 30…Matter fact, don’t even think about it. You ain’t turnin’ 30. You’ll probably get killed.’ That’s how I always used to think and now, we’re here. I’m turning 30 on a jet, 30,000 feet in the air.”

Sporting a “Goal Digger” hoodie, Meek poses with friends in front of his jet. He also counts his money, flosses his diamonds, and answers phone calls in the middle of the video.

When he finally arrives in the D.R., he’s greeted by a birthday sign and local musicians, who prompt him to show off his dance moves. From there, he cools out in a pool full of lovely women, living up the big 3-0.

Drake was the big winner at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.

In fact, the rapper took home 13 awards, making him the artist with the most in a single year -- beating Adele's record of 12.

Live from the T-Mobile Arena, it’s the 2017 Billboard Music Awards! Beautifully dressed musicians from every genre joined together on May 21 for the epic award show to honor some of the greatest music icons of our age. M.ANIFEST MAKES THE FINAL 11 OF MIDEM ARTIST ACCELERATOR 2017

Midem has announced the 11 finalists of the Midem Artist Accelerator (MAA) programme, designed to support emerging music talent and Ghanaian rapper, M.anifest, made the final list.

Whittled down from more than 600 submissions by the MAA Artistic Committee, the finalists will perform live on the Midem By Night main stage over three nights on the beach of the Majestic Palace. They will also compete in a Midem online community vote, with the winners to play at Midem’s Opening Party on Tuesday, June 6.

Wyclef Jean and Daddy Yankee are the 2017 Ambassadors of the MAA. Both will hold conversations with the finalists, during which they will set out their vision of musical success and share their expertise.

“I’m excited about the MAA programme because I have spent my entire career producing, writing for, and collaborating with amazing young artists. The youth are the future. It’s a blessing to help mould the musicians of tomorrow,” said Jean, who will also perform on the Midem by Night main stage on Wednesday, June 7.

The finalists are Acid Arab (France), Adian Coker (UK), Be Charlotte (UK), Geoffroy (Canada), Iris Gold (Denmark), Kiddy Smile (France), M.anifest (Ghana), Prateek Kuhad (India), Shakka (UK), Rendez-vous (France), and XXX (South Korea).

Midem Artist Accelerator (MAA) finalist

The artists will also receive mentoring sessions with the industry experts making up the MAA Artistic Committee, including UTA agent Christian Bernhardt (USA); Willy Ehmann, SVP Domestic GSA of Sony Music Entertainment (Germany); Robomagic founder Rob Hallett (UK); Christopher Kaskie, president of Pitchfork (USA); Patrik Larsson, A&R and Label Manager at Playground Music Scandinavia (Sweden) and Devraj Sanyal, MD and CEO at Universal Music South Asia (India).

The finalists will also benefit from a pool of experts to assist them during their career journey at Midem. Among the mentoring services offered, the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers will deliver free legal consulting, while Metropolis lead studio engineer Liam Nolan, a two-time Grammy winner for Record Of The Year (Hello by Adele) and Album Of The Year (25 by Adele), will run a session on musical production. In addition to the finalists enjoying privileged access to the Global Sync and Brands Summit, Rupert Hollier, Creative Director of Metropolis, Europe’s leading independent professional recording studio, will conduct a dedicated workshop around music sync and placements.

The Midem Artist Accelerator Coup de Coeur, meanwhile, will win the chance to master an album at Metropolis’ production facility based in London.

Midem 2017 takes place in Paris, France, from June 6-9.

Kendrick Lamar’s new album, Damn., is getting high praises from a lot of people, including the Compton rapper’s mom.

The “Humble” MC recently revealed a text he received from mom about her thoughts on the album, and it’s pretty great.

“OMG. This CD is the bombbbb!,” she started. “You should of put me and your daddy on this one too. j/k. This your best one to me, no bullshit. Your daddy said u look stressed out on the cover lol. I said nigga that’s the point, we always stressing him out. Since a lil boy you been a over thinker though. But what you say, a nigga make it look sexy. Boy you can make a dog laugh,” she added, sprinkling the message with emojis.

Kendrick was more than amused by the text, responding, “You going emoji brazy. Who taught you 100?”
