That got my attention, so I flipped to Fox News just before he was supposed to speak.

I heard Geraldo Rivera speculating on what the speech would be about. Suddenly, I saw his face light up and he began talking about the possibility that the President could be announcing that Osama bin Laden had been killed or captured. He got more and more excited, and within a minute or so, the confirmation came in that bin Laden had indeed been killed. Geraldo and his guest (whose name escapes me) began laughing and “high-fiving” each other as if their team had suddenly won the championship. My initial reaction was one of relief that one of the most horrible chapters in American history was getting some closure after almost 10 years. But, as I saw Geraldo and others celebrating, something struck me as being horribly wrong. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Another soul entered into eternity, and it was fairly obvious where it went.

I know Rob Bell would probably take issue with me on this but, given the circumstances, it seems pretty certain that bin Laden’s soul is bound for eternal torment in hell. I’m not saying that I know it for a fact, because I wasn’t with him prior to his death, so I don’t know if he realized his need to be saved from sin and turned to Jesus for salvation. The circumstances seem to point to the fact that he didn’t. After all, if he had repented and turned from his sin, I would have to believe that he wouldn’t have resisted and caused the soldier(s) to feel like they had to kill him. His stance has always been that he wouldn’t allow the infidels to take him alive! If that is indeed the case, then he most certainly is in hell.

So, there I was, watching the celebration and feeling a mixture of relief and sorrow. On one hand, relief that the mastermind of 9/11 was brought to Earthly justice, but, on the other hand, sorrow at the thought of how his hatred had probably condemned him to hell – the place of torment that was originally created for satan and his fallen angels. That thought, combined with Proverbs 24:17-18 spoils the party atmosphere and puts things in perspective! What does it say?

17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles,
18 lest the LORD see it and be displeased,
and turn away his anger from him.

Eternity is at stake, and, no matter how evil the person’s heart may be, Jesus still died for them just as much as he died for you and me! Celebrating their demise is basically saying that we’re more interested in their fleshly punishment than we are in their eternal punishment.

I want to make it clear that I am proud of our military men and women who put their lives on the line to defend us and our freedoms. They did their job and they did it without hesitation. They deserve our support and our thanks. Osama was brought to justice, and I don’t have any problem with that fact. But, instead of celebrating the death of an enemy, I hope this will spur us on to fulfilling the Great Commission!

There are so many who are lost in sin and who need to hear the message of Jesus before they die! He is the only way to salvation and eternal life! Instead of reacting to the downfall of an enemy with laughter and celebration, let’s conform our lives to the Bible, stop living like the world, and share the message of Salvation through Jesus Christ with everyone we can. I love this quote: “Preach the Gospel at all times – use words if necessary.” Now, that’s the right reaction!

If you're like us, you love them, but if you've bought the frozen patties at Sam's recently, you'll want to check out their recall site by clicking here. So far, the Salmonella infected patties have only been sold at Sam's Clubs.

I believe these words ring truer today than they did when it was first written in the late 1990s.

In 1973 THE SUPREME COURT said it was OK to kill unborn babies. Since then, we have killed more than the entire population of Canada. And it continues. A woman's choice? Half of those who have died in their mothers' wombs have been women. They didn't have a choice. It is called abortion.

Me? I go to church, the minister preaches, I go home. That's what Christians do now.

First it was in dingy, dirty theaters. Then, convenience stores. Then, grocery stores. Then on television. Now it is in the homes of millions via the Internet. It is called pornography.

Me? I go to church, the minister preaches, I go home. That's what Christians do now.

They called it no-fault. Why should we blame anyone when something so tragic happens. Haven't they already suffered enough? Half of the marriages in America end this way. The children suffered. The family broke down. It is called divorce.

Me? I go to church, the minister preaches, I go home. That’s what Christians do now.

At one time it was a perversion. We kept it secret. We secured help and hope for those who practiced it. Now it is praised. We have parades celebrating it, and elected officials give it their blessing. Now it is endowed with special privileges and protected by special laws. Even some Christian leaders and denominations praise it. It is called homosexuality.

Me? I go to church, the minister preaches, I go home. That's what Christians do now.

It used to be an embarrassment. A shame. Now a third of all births are to mothers who aren't married. Two-thirds of all African-American children are born into a home without a father. The state usually pays the tab. That is why we pay our taxes, so that government can take the place of parents. After all, government bureaucrats know much better how to raise children than parents do. It is called illegitimacy.

Me? I go to church, the minister preaches, I go home. That's what Christians do now.

At one time it was wrong. But then the state decided to legalize it, promote it and tax it. It has ripped apart families and destroyed lives. But just look at all the money the state has raised. No longer do we have to teach our children to study and work hard. Now we teach them they can get something for nothing. We spend millions encouraging people to join the fun and excitement. Just look at the big sums that people are winning. They will never have to work again! It is called gambling.

Me? I go to church, the minister preaches, I go home. That's what Christians do now.

Not long ago, Christians were the good guys. But now any positive image of Christians in movies or on TV is gone. We are now depicted as the bad guys - greedy, narrow-minded hypocrites. The teacher can't have a Bible on her desk, but can have Playboy. We don't have Christmas and Easter holidays - just winter and spring break. We can't pray in school, but can use foul language. It's called being tolerant.

Me? I go to church, the minister preaches, I go home. That's what Christians do now.

Yes, all these things came to pass within 30 years. Where were the Christians? Why, they were in church. All these things are for someone else to deal with. Times have changed. Involvement has been replaced with apathy.

But don't blame me. I didn't do anything. I go to church, the minister preaches, I go home. That's what Christians do now.

Rob Bell’s new book has ignited a firestorm of debate among Christians and non-Christians alike. The thought that God is so loving and compassionate that He would never send a poor, innocent person to hell is one that people can grab and cuddle like a cute teddy bear. It’s so warm and fuzzy to believe that way, but, alas, it is also wrong! Not only that, it is heresy, and even blasphemous to try to make people believe that God is going to bend the rules and give them a second chance after death for them to avoid the punishment for sin. Why? Let’s look at the real source for truth. Not “Love Wins,” but “Love Is” aka. The Bible! First, we need to look at the reason why we are in danger of going to hell.

Romans 3:9-18 9. What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. 10. As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; 11. there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. 12. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” 13. “Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.” “The poison of vipers is on their lips.” 14. “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.” 15. “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16. ruin and misery mark their ways, 17. and the way of peace they do not know.” 18. “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Verse 23 also lets us know that absolutely everyone has sinned and has fallen short of the glory of God! But, why, how and when have we sinned?

Romans 5:12 12. Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—

The very first sin in the Garden of Eden resulted in sin being applied like a skin to every person who lived from that time until now! Not only that, but it has been made perfectly clear that there is a penalty for sin.

Romans 6:23a 23. For the wages of sin is death…

It sounds pretty hopeless, doesn’t it? Thankfully, our loving, compassionate God didn’t want it to remain that way!

Romans 5:6-8 6. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

God loved us so much that, even though we are born into sin, He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us! Stop and think about that. It would be the same as you sending your innocent child to death row in order to die so that not just one, but ALL convicted murderers, rapists, molesters, addicts, thieves, cheaters…every last one of them could have the chance to go free! Would you do that? I doubt there’s enough love in the entire human race combined to make someone want to do that. So, why did God do it?

Because God is love! (1 John 4:8)

That’s pretty self-explanatory! God demonstrated that by offering His Son, Jesus, as the sacrifice for our sinful condition. I know it has been stated that the need for an animal or a person to die so that we can gain our freedom is so foreign to us today! The truth is, it doesn’t matter if we’re accustomed to the idea of blood sacrifice or not. That’s the way GOD ordained it – it’s HIS standard! The problem with the church today is that we are trying to pass things through our filter, and that just isn’t how it works! In interviews with Rob Bell, I heard him talk about “his” way of processing it, of reasoning it out. It’s all about what HE thinks it should be and how HE thinks it will turn out; however, our ways of doing things, and our ideas of what is right and fair don’t count!

Isaiah 55:8 8. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.

Sadly, though, Rob isn’t the only one who is on this bandwagon, which is why I’m not writing this as an open letter to Rob Bell. Rather, it is an urgent plea to the Church today!

There are more and more people who call themselves Christians, who are embracing the things of this world. They are trying to make God’s Word conform to their lusts and their lifestyles, instead of making their lusts flee and their lives conform to God’s Word. The simple truth is this:

There is no way to get to Heaven with sin in our lives, because sin separates us from God! There is no way to overcome sin without the blood of Jesus! There is no way to apply the blood without accepting Jesus as the Messiah and repenting from our sinful ways!

There’s nothing we can do to earn it! His sacrifice is a gift that can only be gained by faith, not by our works! Some modern “teachers” want to make us believe that we are able to do what we want, and, as long as we are good to each other, and lead lives that the world considers to be upstanding, we’re not going to have any problem getting into Heaven. Sorry, that’s just not true!

Ephesians 2:1-9 1. And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2. in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience — 3. among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5. even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved — 6. and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7. so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9. not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

That passage shows that there is a difference between the world’s system and God’s! When we are saved, our lives must reflect that difference. It also shows that God is merciful and gracious. The thing we need to realize is that sending sinners to hell isn’t due to a lack of mercy, and it isn’t unfair! God’s mercy doesn’t come at the end! He has already given us mercy! It was given at the cross, through His Son, Jesus. All we have to do is accept it by accepting Jesus, then, live in the relationship that God wants to have with us! You see, it isn’t about God making a way for us to “get into Heaven.” It’s about a relationship that was broken by one man, Adam when he gave in to the temptation that originated with satan. Adam disobeyed the loving Father that created him, the very One who breathed the breath of life directly into him. Our sin is just as disobedient, and it still separates us from having that relationship with God!

I know this is getting pretty long, and I certainly appreciate you hanging in there to this point. Trust me – it could be much longer, because there is so much the Bible has to say that is being twisted by man in an attempt to appease the conscience. Let me try to wrap it up in the next short paragraph.

We need to return God’s Word to the place it should be – as the standard for everything we do. It’s not there to be twisted for our convenience. Lying, stealing, pride, murder, homosexuality, adultery, fornication, (and the list could continue) are all sin, not because of narrow-minded people who want to impose their beliefs on others, but because GOD said so in His Word. Our lives MUST conform to God’s standard, and we MUST stop trying to justify our sin, because, in the end, God’s standard is all that will matter!

I've never enjoyed riding roller coasters, even though friends have managed to talk me onto a few of them in my life. Maybe it's because I have a fear of heights, or a fear of falling (and the sudden stop at the bottom!) I've never found any pleasure in the anticipation and anxiety of climbing that first hill, or in the feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you stare down the opposite side of that hill. No sir, roller coasters just aren't my thing. Turn the physical roller coaster into an emotional one, and it's even more miserable for me, but I have been on one this past week!

When we moved back to the farm, we came to be near Mom and Dad so we could be here to help them keep up these 147 acres. For a year and a half we have settled in and have enjoyed being back around family and friends. Then, I got a call that made me stop and reconsider.

I was offered a chance to be back on the air at the network where I worked before we moved back. It would have been a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the ministry, and would have given us a chance to be around the friends we made there. Of all the offers I have received over the years, this one really grabbed me and made me wrestle it like it was a Grizzly bear.

I fought it on one side and then the other! I could see us staying here and being perfectly happy, but I could also see us going back and still being happy. It wasn't one of those no-brainer decisions -- or was it? That was the problem. I could see so many benefits to each side that I almost think I over-analyzed it and made it more difficult than it really should have been. Yes, we wanted to do God's will, but sometimes His will isn't in the answer that seems to be the most logical. Well, to make a long story short, I wound up turning down the offer. On the surface, it seemed to be perfect and we almost felt like we had no other choice, at least for a short while. In the end, it all came down to answering the question of why we moved here in the first place. As soon as I cut through the emotion and got to the real heart of the matter, the answer was so clear! There was also an overwhelming peace!

I don't know what you're going through, but if you're on a roller coaster of emotion and you're struggling to make a decision, let me offer a suggestion. Get off the roller coaster! Emotions are good, but they can be so deceptive. Don't make a decision based on emotion, PRAY! That's the only way you can know that the answer isn't a "hit or miss" thing. Of course, a little bit of Godly counsel is a good thing, and it can provide confirmation of your answer. Just don't try to use it to give the answer, otherwise you'll end up with a bunch of "what ifs" when the emotions start rising once again! Hang in there, and if you need someone to agree with you in prayer, just send me an email.

The weekend actually started last Thursday with Becky's oldest sister, Kathy, coming for an "end of summer break" visit. I have to say, it's nice to be able to work from home so I can maximize my time with company while they're here. We had a great time Thursday and Friday, and the fun was kicked into high gear on Saturday when more of her family came to spend the day with us. We had a great time talking and laughing, and the day just flew by. They headed home Saturday evening, and we spent a little bit of time relaxing and getting ready for the big day on Sunday!

I've posted about Damon, Maggie and the kids before so I won't go back into detail about our relationship with them. I'll just say that they are more family than friends, and they were going to dedicate baby number 6, Sidney-Kay, during the Sunday morning church service. We have been given the honor of being her godparents, so that made our being there even more special!

We got up early Sunday morning and headed to Houston anticipating a good time and a wonderful dedication ceremony...but were we ever surprised at how things turned out! I've probably seen hundreds of dedications during my lifetime, but I can honestly say that I have never seen anything like this! It was apparent early in the service that there would be no dedication ceremony! No bringing the family forward just before the message, no simple prayer spoken over the baby and family, no simple charge to the family and the church to raise the baby in the fear and admonition of Jesus! Instead, the entire service was given to sharing how God can use the gift of Sidney-Kay's life to share so much of Himself with us! It was beautiful!

During the message, the Pastor talked to each of the family members and asked them to use one word to describe what SK meant to them. Each one had a unique perspective of what God was revealing to them through her life. The Pastor would take that and expound on it before going to the next one. Before I go any further, I should probably explain just why this is so special.

Sidney-Kay was born on March 4th and was diagnosed with a mild form of Down Syndrome. Even though it's mild, she has still had her share of physical challenges over the last few months. Most recently, she was taken in for tests and the doctors found that she had a hole in her heart. If it didn't heal on its own then they would have to try to patch it through surgery. So many have been praying and believing that God will heal it so she won't have to go through the surgery, and she is scheduled to have a follow-up test soon to find out how it is progressing. Your prayers are very much appreciated! I know He is able to heal and I give Him praise for that!

Needless to say, she is a special baby and is truly a gift from God! Her dedication service was so awesome and I'm still blown away by how God has used a little baby to bless so many people.

After the service, we spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out with the family and had a relaxing day! It ended too soon, and I was so wrapped up in the service and the fellowship that I completely forgot to take any pictures. Oh, well -- they wouldn't have done it justice. A picture might be worth a thousand words, but no picture can compare to what God says through friends, family and the gift of a beautiful, perfectly designed baby!

It's sad, but often we're trained to believe that if the Pastor says it, then it must be correct. They're seminary graduates who spend time studying and they even use Scripture to back up their revelation, so it must be right! What if it wasn't? What if the verse or verses were used out of context? Do we know if the proper meaning was applied, or if was it used incorrectly? Was it "enhanced" in order to pump up the people and coax an emotional response, instead of allowing God's Word to penetrate the heart and bring about the life change that God desires? Let me ask you...do you know why you seek God? Is it for self, or is it for a relationship with Him?

You might be asking what those last 2 questions have to do with a Pastor taking verses out of context and hyping up messages. Believe it or not, the answer has a direct impact on whether or not you would even care. If we serve God selfishly, then we might need to have Scriptures taken out of context or "spun" a certain way in order to satisfy our desires. Let's face it, the lifestyle of some "Christians" today can only be justified by cutting and pasting the Bible to mean what they want it to mean. If we go to church just to get our blessing, then we probably need that hyped-up jive talk to pump us up so we feel great about ourselves. Then we can hit that emotional "high" that lets us know that we've really had a good service! If that's the case then we've missed the whole point!

God wants to bless us, but His primary concern isn't with our emotional bliss, or our monetary abundance! He wants our soul to prosper and that only comes through a right relationship with Him. That relationship is not based on what He can do for us. It's based on our desire to be close to Him. If you get married based on convenience or other selfish reasons, that marriage won't last long because there is no solid foundation. If, however, you get married because of the relationship you have with that other person, it will last because that relationship will grow stronger, even through the tough times. (And let me just say here that marriage is ONLY between a man and a woman. You can't argue with Romans 1 unless you completely ignore what it says...sorry.) So now, let me expand on the questions I asked earlier.

Why do you serve God? Is it because you don't want to go to hell, or is it because you truly love Him? Why do you seek Him? Do you seek Him for Who He Is, or for what He can do for you?

I'm going to let you think about those questions and I'm asking you to be honest in your answers. I'm not asking you to give those answers in the comments, either. Just take some time and examine your heart and your motives for serving God. If they are selfish, it's not too late to do something about it. If they are pure, then stand guard and don't back down.

I look forward to sharing more with you next time. Until then, be blessed!

Well, I am looking forward to sharing some of the things that God has been dealing with us about. Becky and I have been taking some long, hard looks at some things that we have been taught in church and have compared those to what the Bible really says. Let me just say that it's not easy to change unless that change comes in the light of God's Word. Even then it doesn't just happen, because you often worry about what others will say. I'm past that, now! When it comes to what God's Word says, there is no need for concern. It is THE source of truth and there's no argument.

Of course, there are the things that happen in our lives on any given day and I'll let you know what's going on there, too. I also tweet, or twitter, or whatever you want to call it, and those will keep popping up on the Twitter feed on the right side of the blog.

Let me finish pulling some more things together and I'll start posting again later tonight or tomorrow. Until then...make yourself at home.

Life hasn't always been perfect for them (especially some parts where I was involved) but they took their vows literally, and have remained faithful 'til "death do they part."

We wanted to do something special for them, but they have pretty much everything. We thought about taking them out to eat, but they really prefer home-style cooking instead of fancy foods. We knew they love Cracker Barrel, so we decided that was the place to go. The only problem was...there's not a Cracker Barrel in Lufkin and the closest one is about 90 miles away. Ok, that wasn't really a problem because we love Cracker Barrel, too, and we're talking about my parents who are celebrating 59 years of marriage! So we loaded up and made the trek to Tyler, filled up on great food and had a great time laughing and talking about whatever topic popped up. It was a great day together and my only regret is forgetting to take pictures.

I know this is a short post but I just wanted to let you know that the attack on marriage in our world today hasn't had any effect on one particular couple who continue to defy the odds and remain faithful to the vows they made to each other and to God. Way to go, Mom and Dad! Maybe Cracker Barrel will open a restaurant in Lufkin before number 60! If not, I'm sure we'll head back to Tyler next year.

We're almost finished with the first month of 2010 and I honestly don't know where the time has gone! I guess that's a good thing, because I'd rather be doing things that make time seem to fly by instead of sitting around twiddling my thumbs, bored out of my skull.

Speaking of doing things, I've taken up a new hobby that I hope might turn into a way to earn some money at some point. I grew up loving knives. I got my first pocketknife when I was 6 and was completely hooked from then on. Let me just assure you right now that I wasn't allowed to carry it around and use it unsupervised until I was older. It did make me an avid "whittler" and I used my ever-growing collection of knives to carve some pretty mean spears and large toothpicks. Impressive, huh? Well, now I'm learning how to use professional carving knives to turn blocks of wood into things that are a little more interesting to look at than just sharpened sticks. At least, that's the plan. I found a local group of carvers that range in experience from beginners eager to learn to masters who truly know this craft! They have taken me in as part of the group and are so willing to pass along their knowledge.

So far, I have taken a block of wood and carved out a donut. Simple sounding, but a great exercise to learn how to use the knives and how to "read the grain" of the wood.

Believe me, it was harder than it sounds. I've also learned how to sharpen the knife and I can tell you that it's a totally different edge than a standard pocketknife. These are literally razor sharp and will actually polish the wood as they slice through. Needless to say, I'm having a blast learning this new art form, and I'm really enjoying the fellowship as I get to know some wonderful people. Maybe by the time I learn how to carve well enough to sell some things I'll have figured out how to combine the carving with my leather working, which is also going well. I'll fill you in on that next time. In the meantime, please, take a minute and share about your hobbies whether they are ones you have enjoyed for years, or have just picked up to help reduce stress in the new year. And if woodcarving is something you would like to learn, here's a link to search for a local carving club in your area. It's not very expensive to get started, and most carvers I have encountered are eager to pass on their knowledge of this fun, rewarding craft.

My Mom had an appointment with her eye doctor for a routine checkup. The problem was...the appointment was for 10:30am and the doctor is in Houston. That's roughly 130 miles away which translates to about 2-1/2 hours of driving. Since I like driving, it's no biggie. It also didn't hurt that we've developed a tradition for every trip we make to their doctors in Houston. The appointments usually end around lunch time, so we stop at Pappas BBQ on the way back home. More about them in a minute, but first, let me tell you about some of the people I got to know in the waiting room at the doctor's office.

I'm a people person and I love watching how others interact. I also love hearing about their lives! Mind you, I didn't actually talk directly to these people, but that didn't matter. The room was small and they were loud, and I soon found out more about them than they realized. One lady that really stood out was older and had a noticeable accent. I thought it sounded German, and I soon found out I was right! She sat down next to a gentleman and began to pour out some of her history. Her husband died 2 years ago and she moved back to the U.S.A. from Berlin. I also know that she has "2 dogs that act worse than 2 ten-year-old children." The poor man looked fairly uncomfortable with the conversation and he quickly found a way to escape to another waiting area. His seat was filled by a younger lady that I can only assume was her daughter. I'm basing the assumption on the fact that they were both talking about things like storing family heirlooms and how not walking regularly can take its toll on your muscles when you try to take a stroll in the country. I wasn't eavesdropping! Like I said, the room was small and they were loud. The next time you're in public, remember...others can hear you! Enough of the chit-chat about chit-chat. Let's get to the BBQ!

If you like great BBQ and you live in the Houston area, or if you ever visit, you have got to try Pappas. They are part of a company that have restaurants for several different types of food. They have Mexican, Cajun, Seafood and BBQ covered and the amazing thing is -- they do them all extremely well! That's my humble opinion, of course. OK, I've gotta stop talking about them or I'm gonna have to go back tomorrow! Anyway, after we finished stuffing ourselves with some REALLY awesome smoked turkey, we decided to do a little shopping. We made a stop at the Tandy Leather Store then headed for the mall.

Let me toss this thought out to you here. When you're in public, not only can people hear you but they can also see you. Before you say, "Duh," let me remind you that I observe people. This time of year brings out the joy in some, and they have a wonderful glow on their faces! Sadly enough, there are others who look like they were force-fed one of those commercial sized jars of mustard. Their facial expressions look absolutely sour. We met 3 of those type of people when were getting on the elevator to come back down to the first floor of the mall. While we were waiting for them to get off of the elevator so we could get on, I noticed that they looked like they were being forced to shop at gunpoint. I decided to try to lighten things a little by saying something to cheer them up. The first thing that popped into my head was, "Welcome to the second floor!" I smiled and said it. They walked away and I never could see their faces so I don't know if it helped them or not. At least Becky and Jaden got a laugh out of it.

All in all it was a great day! Hopefully, I've helped remind you of a couple of points like: (A) People can see you and hear you when you're in public so talk and act accordingly. And (B) if you ever see me and you have an unhappy look on your face, there's a pretty good chance I'm going to say something dumb...so brace yourself! (So much for talking and acting properly in public! Oh well!)

I'm a firm believer in the phrase, "Time flies when you're having fun," because we had a blast this weekend and the time just flew by!

The McMillans came in Friday afternoon and stayed the weekend. Damon and I built a fire in the fire pit, and the adults just spent time relaxing, talking and laughing around the fire. We roasted hot dogs, made gumbo, and just enjoyed taking it easy! Of course, the kids were ready for the "war" and their planning paid off. The girls had made belt pouches and insignia, they had all prepared their "uniforms" and the homemade rifles capped it all off. It's nice to be able to escape the hustle and bustle of life and just enjoy some R&R with friends. Since it was kind of a lazy weekend, I'll keep the words to a minimum and share a few pictures of the kids in their uniforms.

I'll admit that there was a little too much eating, but it was seriously just a little too much. Compared to what was available and what could have been eaten, it was only a little.
Jaden and I also spent time finishing the rifles. The McMillans will be here tomorrow, so everything had to be finished today. Jaden has been a huge help with sanding, painting, gluing, and just about anything else that needed to be done. He is so eager to help and he learns quickly. He's also very appreciative and supportive. When I started doing this project, I had some trouble getting the blank cut out and was not really pleased with how it looked. I knew I could fix the boo-boos in the finishing process but it would mean extra work. (It turned out that I had made a basic mistake and had forgotten to change the saw blade to the correct one for the thicker wood. Once I did that, the rest came out fine.) Jaden took one look at it and said, "I'll take that one!" Later, when we were sitting around talking about the rifles, Jaden said, "I like the first one you did. I always like to have the first of whatever you make." That one is now his, and is the bigger rifle in this picture. The smaller one is for Owen, the McMillan's 4 year-old.

I'll try to get some pictures of the kids playing "Army," but I can't promise because when we get together with Damon and Maggie, we lose track of time.

I hope you have had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and remember that Thanksgiving isn't just a day...it's a lifestyle. Don't worry...I'm not going to list them all here! I do want to take a second to remind you (and myself) that every day should be Thanksgiving. God deserves our thanks and praise every minute of every day! Even that wouldn't be enough to honor Him in the fullness that He truly deserves!

I've been working on the rifles for the kids, and I'm thankful that I am able to do something that I really enjoy for our friends! I'm also thankful for true friends like the McMillans, Devin Patrick, the Chamblees, the Roberts, and many others! The fact that we have one true friend is something to be thankful for, but to have more than that is beyond awesome!

Yes, the rifles are coming along and should be finished tomorrow. I'm going to keep this short today and leave you with some pictures of the rifle project. I'll update again tomorrow. 'Til then, have a very BLESSED Thanksgiving!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5-qVNPrwqIA/Sw4LBkjEe6I/AAAAAAAAABo/SMvb4qvKnbQ/s320/Rifle+-+Cutting+The+Blanks.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408272324137089954" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5-qVNPrwqIA/Sw4LB3D7ByI/AAAAAAAAABw/IEZF3krsQic/s320/Rifle+-+Sanding+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408272329106720546" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 122px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5-qVNPrwqIA/Sw4LCWeU5YI/AAAAAAAAAB4/JADRajAd2gs/s320/Rifle+-+Almost+Complete.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408272337538966914" />

(Really, they are more like family because our bond is just too strong to classify them as just friends.) They have 5 kids and one on the way, and when Jaden and the kids get together, the sky's the limit on what their imaginations will dream up. They have been planning this whole W.W.I/W.W.II soldier thing and have really been burning up the phone lines trying to coordinate everything. PTL for unlimited long-distance!

One day last week, Jaden got off the phone and announced that he was in charge of coming up with the "weapons" for everyone to use. He was going to try to whittle and carve the "rifles" out of tree branches. Quite an undertaking for one person of any age, so I told him I would love to build some toy rifles for everyone. Hey, any excuse to pull out the power tools works for me! I got him to tell me what they wanted the guns to look like and did my best to draw something on poster board that would resemble a military rifle.

This afternoon, I traced the design on the lumber, pulled out the scroll saw, and started trying to follow the line. After a little bit of effort (and changing to the right kind of blade) I was able to get 2 of the "guns" roughed out before dark. Only 4 more to go! I'm having a blast doing this and I can't wait to see their faces when they get their surprises. Yes, Jaden is the only one who knows...they still think he's whittling and carving branches! I love it! Here's a picture of the rough work.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5-qVNPrwqIA/SwtatRpyY7I/AAAAAAAAABg/ACH9ffQHjvM/s320/Rifles+Part+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407515511467697074" />
I'll keep them coming as everything progresses. In the meantime, I want to challenge you to find something you can do for someone and surprise them. They'll enjoy it and you will too.

I'm not even sure how it came about because it happened suddenly. Now, I'm not going to try to remember the conversation word-for-word, but the gist of it was something like, "You said on your blog that you were back. I've been checking for new posts...WHERE ARE YOU?" The truth of the matter is, I'm here but I've just been lazy when it comes to posting. How is that for honesty?

I can't say that I have a boring life. Actually, it's quite the opposite. Living on almost 150 acres means that something is pretty much always going on. For instance, I just finished building an awning for my parents. Not having welded for almost 20 years, I was a little nervous about tackling something like that. The last time I welded, I used a traditional stick welder. Those are the ones that use welding rods in order to create the weld. This time, I had a new wire welder that uses a roll of thin wire that is fed through the handle and eliminates the need for rods. I've never used one before and I hoped against hope that I would be able to catch on quickly so I could do a job that would look good and hold together. Not only was this going on their house, I also knew my Dad was going to have to climb on top of it in order to put the roof on it. I had made gates for our cattle lot in the past, and they had held up to some pretty severe torture. One time, a bull decided he didn't want to stay penned and chose to go up and over one of my gates. The metal bent, but the welds held firm. Of course, the consequences of a bull breaking a gate is not the same as your own Dad falling 8 feet. How awful it would be if he got up there and the welds weren't right! Thankfully, I was able to pick it back up quickly, the welds held firm, and my parents now have an awning over their back door. So, where does the horrible dog breath fit into all of this?

Well, we were finished with the frame of the awning and we decided we needed to get it up before it rained, so we hooked up the flood lights and kept working after dark. My parents have a huge boxer named "Big Mack" and he was really enjoying the fact that he had company. He was running all around us, stopping occasionally to have his head scratched.

My Dad had to go find a tool, so we stopped to take a break. I sat down and rubbed Big Mack's enormous melon head for a couple of minutes, then he got up and took off to the darker part of the yard. I was talking to my Mom when Big Mack came trotting back up. I noticed he was wheezing terribly and he was drooling like someone had filled his jowls with whipped cream. Then, he started shaking his head and acting weird and I got really concerned. I was reaching out to try to calm him down, but just before I touched him...it hit me. It wasn't a revelation or a sudden flash of inspiration. It was a FUNK! Skunk funk!

I pushed him away before he could contaminate me. It's funny how fast our feelings of sympathy can turn to feelings of self-preservation, but I've never experienced that kind of stink before. Mind you, I smell skunks all the time because we live out in the country and they are everywhere. I've even killed them before and have had to carry them away, but I have never smelled their "perfume" as strong as I did on Big Mack. It burned my nose and throat! I couldn't even imagine what Mack was going through, but I knew I didn't want that nasty smell on me! I grabbed a light and the shotgun and caught up with my Dad who was already looking for the skunk. He saw it but it ran off before I could get there with the gun. Dad managed to get it the next night, and it was huge! Poor Mack! Our thinking was that Mack went to bite the skunk and took a shot of musk right in the mouth, because that was the only part of him that stunk.

That's how welding and really bad dog breath fit together. The awning is still standing and so is Big Mack. The skunk is gone and the bad breath has too. All-in-all, life is good and I'm looking forward to my next welding project, but if we work at night, Big Mack is going inside!

I thought I'd share this devotion with you, in case you're feeling overwhelmed.

Hebrews 12:1-2
“1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

This is wise advice for us both spiritually and physically! Whether it’s growing in God or getting our budget organized, we carry things that weigh us down and cause us to give up before we reach our goal! Physically, there are tons of things that can happen to throw us off track. In the middle of reorganizing things, the phone can ring, then we realize it’s time to run an errand, and on it goes until the day is done, we’re exhausted, and we think, “I’ll work on it more tomorrow.” When tomorrow comes, we get the feeling that it’s too difficult, and the desire to see it happen starts to fade. Before long, our motivation fades and we don’t endure.

The same thing goes on spiritually, too! We start with a great joy and excitement for our relationship with Christ, and our determination level is high! Then, just as we’re making great strides, something from our past gets thrown in our face and we begin to weaken. Instead of stripping off the weight that slows us down and trips us up, we start to lose that determination and quit trying to “run with endurance the race that God has set before us.”

Whether it’s physical or spiritual, the key to overcoming is to get rid of the weight and keep our eyes on Jesus! He went through so much for us and has become our shining Example of endurance. Remember Philippians 4:13! It’s a great reminder that we can do everything through Christ because He gives us the strength to do it! Is that some sort of a record? Do I get a prize? When I saw the date from that post, I had a flashback of what's been taking place over the last month and I can't believe that so much can happen in a short span of time.

I won't go into all of the details because some of them concern others, and I don't want to hurt anyone. Let me just say that serving God and doing the right thing, according to His Word, isn't always the easiest thing to do. The Bible sets a standard that Christians are supposed to live by. When we think God's standard doesn't apply to us, it can cause problems for so many others. There comes a point when it must be met head-on and stopped...and it must be done in a Godly manner. The sad part is, it's just as hard being on the side that is having to administer the discipline as it is to be on the receiving end. Just to clarify, this time I was on the administering end. A very big OUCH!

Yessiree, it has been a very goofy month, but now I hope to catch up on this thing. How many times have I said that? Hmmm. I wonder if there's an award for that, too!

I've wrestled with sharing this because I know it's controversial and some people might have a problem with the truth, but I've come to the place where I can't keep it inside any longer. I want to encourage you to read it all the way through with an open heart and mind because it is absolutely true...and I have at least a half dozen witnesses to back me up!

Sunday night, June 21st, we were having a great service and our Youth Pastor was delivering a powerful message. From my viewpoint on stage, I noticed that my Mom seemed to be struggling with her sugar level. She's a diabetic and has to be careful when she takes insulin because her sugar level tends to plummet and she has to grab something to eat in order to keep it from hitting the bottom. I saw her trying to discreetly eat part of a candy bar, then my Dad got up and went to the fellowship hall to get some water for her. After a little while, I saw her lean over and I thought she was getting something else out of her purse. Wrong! She had passed out in my Dad's lap and the Pastor and his wife, who were sitting right in front of her, turned around, laid hands on her and immediately began to pray in the Spirit. Becky was working the sound and she came hurrying up, and others who were around them surrounded her and began praying, too. The Youth Pastor immediately asked everyone to begin praying and what came next turned out to be a battle for life itself!

Pastor knew that there was a fight coming and encouraged everyone to persevere and press through. We prayed and it seemed like she would start to come around, but just as suddenly as it happened, she would take a downward turn and head back to unconsciousness. They brought milk mixed with sugar and she could barely even drink it. With each sip we had to remind her several times to swallow it before she would get it down. I had come down and was sitting next to her, trying to hold her up and keep her awake, but it wasn't helping. I have seen her go down before but never like this. Her body normally responds, but this was different. In one of her rallying moments, she turned and looked right at me and I could see death on her face. She turned back and leaned over on Dad and closed her eyes. Becky was behind her and couldn't find a pulse, which set her off. She began crying out to God as everyone around began praying in the Spirit. Finally, her hands began to move and she rallied once again, but it faded as before. Like I said earlier, it was a fight for life! We were literally fighting death itself. The fight probably went on for 30 minutes or more until one point when Mom was laying over on Dad. She began speaking in tongues and praying in the Spirit. Pastor looked at her and said, "The Lord just spoke to me and said to tell you, 'Woman, ARISE!'"

As soon as he said that, Mom stood to her feet. She didn't struggle to get up! She stood up solidly, raised her hands and began to rejoice in the Spirit. Her faculties immediately returned to her and she was alert, back in her right mind! After several minutes of praying and rejoicing in the Holy Spirit, she sat down and was fine. She walked out of the sanctuary that night instead of being carried out on a stretcher, and it was all because of the power of our Almighty God!

I know healing, tongues, and those type of Spiritual matters are offensive to some. Others believe that those are not for us today and it must be of the devil. Let me assure you that the devil was at work that night, BUT it was to do what he does best...steal, kill and destroy. I can promise you that the tongues weren't of him, neither was the healing. God is the One who gets all of the glory in all of this! The power of the Holy Spirit is still just as real and HERE today as He was on the day of Pentecost. There are those who look for the tickle, the tongues, the run, the jump, or the shout. That's NOT what the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for. To focus mainly on the manifestations of the Spirit is missing the point. The power is there to enable us to live a successful, powerful Christian life. The manifestation in tongues, prophecy, healing, or in any of the gifts of the Spirit comes as a sign that His awesome power is still at work and isn't to be used for our pleasure, but rather for the fulfilment of God's will on Earth.

If you have experienced a Pentecostal service that left you feeling judged, condemned, or entertained then please, don't discount the TRUE work of the Holy Spirit. If you have been taught that the work of the Holy Spirit is just hype, emotional overload, false-doctrine, occult or devil-inspired, I encourage you to stop and read God's Word. Don't read it through the eyes of the doctrine of man, but ask God to reveal the truth to you directly. I'm not trying to "turn you on" to the Holy Spirit, but I don't want you to click to the next website without an explanation of fact and a plea to avoid being judgemental. God still works miracles and the operation of the Holy Spirit is still real in our world today. My Mom is LIVING proof!

God has given me a wonderful family and has taken care of us in every way imaginable. He also allowed me to grow up in a Christian home, so I have spent my life seeing His mercy and grace in action. That type of exposure would normally cause someone to become desensitized to what's going on, but I find it's just the opposite when it comes to God's handiwork. I'm constantly amazed by His awesome love for us!

Please, allow me to share what's on my heart. As I look at what's happening in our country and in the world, I can't help but see how that relates to Scripture and the return of Jesus for His Church. The signs are there and I believe that our time here is running short -- probably shorter than we realize! In my humble opinion, these really are the Last Days! If that is true, it means that we are not far from seeing our Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face. Sadly, though, it also means that we are running out of time to share Jesus with our friends, family, and anyone else we meet who might not know Him and His saving grace!

All this has made me wonder. If we really knew how close His return was, would we change anything about the way we live? Would we stop watching certain movies or TV shows? Would we stop using certain language? Would we stay away from some of the places we currently go -- or start going to church more often? Would we make things right with people we have hurt or who have hurt us? Would gossip suddenly seem like the sin it really is, and would we be willing to go back and make things right from all of the gossip of the past? Would the vices we rationalize as being o.k. suddenly appear as ugly to us as they do to God? Would our focus shift from the insignificant things that bring us pleasure to the things that please God? Most importantly, would we have an urgency to share Jesus with as many as we could so they could have the chance to live for eternity with God in Heaven instead of separated from Him in the eternal torment and agony of Hell? What would it take to cause that type of urgency to rise in us?

There is a clarion call going out to "Prepare the Way of the Lord!" Just as John the Baptist went about telling everyone he could about the coming Messiah, we should be about the business of telling everyone we can about the return of the King of Kings! My exhortation is to pray for the Holy Spirit to bring revival; revival in our hearts, in our families, our churches and in any other area that God desires! How we need that outpouring, and I know it's coming! That will empower us for a great push to reach the lost before it's too late! We've got a mission and we're running out of time. Jesus is coming soon and we must grasp the urgency to Prepare the Way of the Lord!

My plan to keep this up on a daily basis have definitely gone by the wayside. Just playing "Captain Obvious" there. I've been busy, but not in the way I've been used to for the last few years, and certainly not in the way I thought I would be. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Let me explain.

I've become accustomed to getting up and being at work by a certain time. I would do specified tasks until a specified time, then I would go home. Since we have been back in Texas, my job description and schedule have both been fairly flexible and that has been tough for me to adjust to. When I say I've been busy, it hasn't all been "job" related, meaning it hasn't all been money producing. Of course, there is the farm which has various tasks and challenges that pop up from time to time. I'm also the Minister of Music at our church, and just preparing music for services and practice has been constant. In fact, I feel like I'm just really starting to get back in the flow of things and am getting a good foothold. I can honestly say that I know it's what God has called me to do, and I didn't fully realize how much I had missed it until now!

We've also had more opportunity to help with other areas of the church which is giving us a chance to fellowship with others and really form relationships that will help "iron sharpen iron," and I like that! Anyway, I could go into more detail, but it would take so much of your time to read it all. Let me just summarize for now and share more info later. I had my ideas about what was going to happen when we came back to Texas, but God always has higher plans. My expectations were high, but God has taken those to a whole new level...no, a whole new dimension! We are seeing Him do mighty things in people's lives. Our whole view and agenda has been altered and God is doing greater things than I could ever have imagined. I have a strange feeling that this blog will turn into a Revival Journal before too much longer! I don't say that lightly! I truly believe that we are about to see a move of God and we are called to be like John the Baptist and help prepare the way of the Lord!

He is coming back soon, I really believe that! We need to be ready and we need to tell others about Jesus while we still can. I'll share more later, but right now I need to get back to work on the other part of my calling, which is the earthly part that helps pay the bills. Be blessed!

Here's an update to help us pray more specifically.

"I had written you a few weeks ago asking for prayer. Today I am asking for specific prayer. As it stated in Matthew 18:19 makes it very clear, when two on Earth agree our God does hear. I have also asked my bible study ladies to pray for this also.

Please pray for financial freedom for the Lord to provide needs and to become debt free. Also, please pray for healing and salvation for Gene (husband) and Niece (Maggie).

We have agreed to pray for this daily.

Please join us in this prayer and I know that the Lord will provide. He always has taken care of me and I know that this will be a show of faith to those who doubt that the Lord is still very active in our lives and really does care."

To God be the glory!

You know, I've been around these type miracles all of my life. I've not only seen God touch others, I've also experienced His mighty power first-hand and it still amazes me to see the things that God does! I can't imagine anyone thinking that being a Christian is boring. Every day is an adventure and I believe that we are on the threshold of something BIG that is going to show the world that God is real, His love is real, Jesus really died on the cross for our sins, He rose from the dead, and the day of miracles is far from being over!

It's late and I need to get to sleep, but I pray that God will fill your life with joy and that every need will be met. He was stabbed last night and is in critical condition. He's about as skinny as my finger, and the knife (or whatever object was used) went through him from front to back. He lost his spleen, 75% of his pancreas, part of his liver, and had to receive 4 pints of blood...Doctors have said that it will take a "Divine miracle" for him to pull through. Thank God that HE is still doing those type things!!

Thank you for praying, and I'll update as soon as I find out more.
