Why was Bronto chosen a Company To Watch?  Here’s an excerpt from our nomination…

With active social and community committees, Bronto provides several fun events per month to engage employees and encourage team work. However, Bronto is most notably a company to watch given our strong and steady path to becoming one of the dominant Email Marketing Providers in the industry. On Thursday, July 22nd, 25 Brontos and several of their family members met at Xtreme Kombat Paintball in Durham, NC for an afternoon of exhilarating, humid, and challenging paintball matches.  The team was divided up into 2 smaller teams pitted against each other for games of “Capture the Bronto”, Attack the Hill, and rounds in an “Paintsburg” – a mock cityscape which buildings, cars, and bunkers to hide and attack from.

With an average temperature of 90 degrees and with humidity you could cut through, the team was challenged by the elements, but played on until late in the night.  Even with some minor injuries and overall loss of energy, we’re already looking forward to playing another round of paintball again soon.

After winning, the Bronto team celebrated with a champagne toast by Chaz at the Bronto HQ; then the group gathered for a team picture with the two Stevie Award trophies:

Next up, Bronto Sales Engineer, Dave Tyson, met Darius Rucker at the Country Music Awards, and promptly signed Traveling Bronto. Dave brought Bronto back to the offices to pair up with Doyle’s signed Bronto.  These Brontos will be prominently displayed, similar to how select Traveling Bronto pictures have been immortalized on canvas around the office.

This year, the Bronto Community Committee decided to pick up the pace and offer employees more opportunity to give back to Durham. So far, Bronto employees have participated in 12 different activities the first 6 months of the year. The key to this year’s theme was to provide Brontos with unique opportunities and add additional organizations to our overall nonprofit mix.

Here are a few of the fun things we’ve been up to so far…

In January, we kicked off the year with a Bronto employee fundraiser to assist Red Cross with the Haiti Relief efforts. We attained 350% of our goal in the first 48 hours and over 50% of Brontos participated.

We joined forces for a day at the ballpark with The Miracle League of the Triangle, a local nonprofit that provides children with special needs the opportunity to play baseball. A team of Brontos buddied up with the participating kids for a game of America’s favorite past-time. It was great afternoon and a chance for Bronto to get acquainted with a new organization in the community.

Another nonprofit that we have started working with this year is The Emily K Center, whose mission is to inspire economically disadvantaged students to dream big, strive for excellence in school and life, build strong character, and reach their highest potential as our future generation of citizen leaders. We sent a team of volunteers over to participate in their first ever, fitness camp. We spent the morning and afternoon sessions helping the kids with arts and crafts, playing board games and breaking a sweat in basketball, dancing and a game of tag.

Habitat for Humanity of Durham, is an organization that we’ve been involved in for for quite some time. Perhaps it is the building of homes, tear down of backyard decks, or the painting of living rooms, it has always been a service of choice for Brontos. This year is no different. We’ve volunteered for a few projects this year that have allowed us to get our hand’s dirty in helping us restore the lives and communities around us.

Though we’ve been pretty busy, we’re only getting started. We have a hectic schedule of fun community service events planned for the rest of the year. Stay tuned…

The Summit was the first by Bronto, bringing together clients in an intimate setting at the Rizzo Conference Center in Chapel Hill, NC to learn more about email marketing and network with their email marketing peers.  Attendees traveled from around the country to attend this inaugural Summit.

The event began with a welcome reception at the historic DuBose House on the Rizzo campus, which allowed for a casual way for Brontos and Bronto clients to meet and greet.  Entering the first full day of the Summit, attendees found the schedule jam packed with presentations on:

• Segmentation & Dynamic Content
• Transactional Messages
• List Growth
• Triggered Messages
• Testing
• Email Creative

There were a number of breakout sessions on social media, deliverability and user generated content which allowed for attendees to share ideas.  Joe Colopy, Bronto CEO delivered a powerful keynote and Bronto COO, Chaz Felix addressed the crowd with a “Bronto: State of the Union,” guiding attendees through the future of Bronto.  The second day of the Summit focused on Bronto’s Service, Product, and Partnership philosophies and offerings, which was capped off by an Executive Panel with Colopy and Felix.  Summit attendees could address questions directly to the Bronto CEO and COO in an open and informal format.  The Summit concluded with one-on-one email marketing strategy and support sessions hosted by Bronto’s Client Service’s team.

But the Summit was more than just great email marketing content, there were a number of social activities, as the group traveled to Bronto’s HQ in Durham, NC for an open house, allowing Bronto clients to tour the Bronto offices with h’ordeuvres, beer and wine.  The group then moved to the famous Durham Bulls Athletic Park where they watched the Bulls take on the Pawtucket Red Sox under the “Bull”, while enjoying ballpark fare and a Durham Bulls’ giveaway with hats, tshirts and other gifts.

Post Summit, we’ve received very positive feedback.  Attendees also walked away with long lists of tangible ways to improve their email marketing program.  More information on this year’s Summit can be found at the Bronto Summit website.  Take a look at pictures from the Summit and stay tuned to BrontoNation as soon we’ll post a recap video.

Even though we’ve just wrapped up Bronto Summit 2010, we’re already looking forward to the Bronto Summit 2011 and hope to see many more of you there!

The Durham Athletic Park or “DAP” was the main filming location for what has been named “#1 Greatest Sports Movie of all time” by Sports Illustrated, Bull Durham.  The setting provided the perfect backdrop for impromptu frisbee games, cornhole matches, and a company-wide kickball game.

Brontos and their families and friends were treated to an all-you-can eat baseball picnic with made to order hamburgers, hot dogs and bratwurst, paired with baseball favorites: nachos, popcorn and cracker jack.  Of course no baseball meal is complete without icy adult and non-alcoholic beverages.

The children in attendance enjoyed the day with a combination moonbounce house with ball pit and a slide, which kept many children happy throughout the afternoon.  Check out Flickr for more pictures of the day’s activities.

Bronto CEO and COO, Joe Colopy and Chaz Felix addressed the crowd thanking them for their support in helping Bronto reach this milestone.  In true Bronto tradition, Bronto team members received a specially designed themed baseball jersey t-shirt with “Bronto Est. 2002″ to mark the occasion.

On day 5 of the tournament, teams from CMG Partners, Compuware and two teams from Bronto remained.  View pictures from the five days of competition on Flickr or Shutterfly.  Coming down to the final match, Bronto teams “The Money Shot” and “Kings of Corn” remained in the competition.  Last Friday, May 7th participants of the Cornhole Battles joined together for the finale match and post tournament celebration.  Pitting two Bronto teams together allowed Brontos to rest easy knowing that Bronto would reign again as Downtown Champion, but one had to determine their allegiance to one Bronto team or the other. After a hard fought cornhole battle, Bronto Account Manager, Ben DeFoe and Territory Sales Executive, Brandon Wilkins were declared the victors!
