Leapin’ Lemurs

Ring-tailed lemurs are a bit more down to earth than collared lemurs – that is to say, collared lemurs, like the one showed here, rarely stay on the ground. Instead, they spend their days in trees, leaping through the canopy.

A Face You Won’t Forget

You’ll only need one guess to figure out where the cottontop tamarin gets its name – from the long white hair that sits right on top of its head. The monkeys are only about 10 inches long, but with such distinctive features they have no problem stealing attention on exhibit in World of Birds.

There’s so much to see and explore at the zoo, so here’s a friendly reminder to look up. If you’re at the Sea Bird Aviary, you may just catch one of our stunning Inca terns in flight. Take a good look and you’ll make out the distinctive moustache-like feathers on each side of its head.

Butting Heads

These Nubian ibex use their strong hind legs and hooves to easily traverse the rocky terrain at the zoo and in their natural habitat, the Arabian Peninsula and northeastern Africa. Both sexes have horns, but the male ibex use their larger ones to establish hierarchy within a group.

Talented leaf-tailed gecko

With no eyelids to protect from dust, the Henkel’s leaf-tailed gecko uses its tongue to wipe dust off of its eyes. Although they’re masters of camouflage, these tiny lizards must rely on various defense tactics to escape predators, and will let out a screeching call if under attack.
