In Episode 33 Podcast regulars Jay and Bettina Tizzy of NPIRL are joined by podcast newcommer Tanith Catteneo, (VANESSA VANALSTYNE in RL) who is an MFA candiated from Huston and a very interesting and articulate SL art pontificator. We bring Bettina down by talking about death, we discover the term FLart. We try and fail to bring ichibot nishi into the conversation because, although you thought that i had no audio quality standards whatsoever, i do try to have standards. I mean if you think my microphone is bad.... damn. Ichibot get some batteries for that thing, man! This is a good conversation, i hope you all enjoy it. Panel includes: Jay Newt, Tanith Catteneo, Ichibot Nishi (via chat) Bettina Tizzy. Artists discussed: Dancoyote Antonelli, Nessuno Myoo, Misprint Thursday, Shellina Winkler, Selavy Oh<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BrooklynIsWatching/~4/Vo3vq-jf3G4" height="1" width="1"/>

In Episode 32, We have a good panel of old hands talking over skype with good sound quality and fairly sound minds at work. We discover that Boris is getting in the press as a viral marketing expert, that Jay is like a clown, that Patrick is a HUGE star trek dork (or former one at the very least) and the Karl Linden was responsible for creating sculpty prims. The word "ennui" is used and a discussion of floating purple rectangles turns into a discussion of existentialism. We all had a really good time recording this podcast, and I hope you all have as much fun listening to it. or more! Panel includes: Jay, Boris, Patrick Lichty, Beth Harris, and Karl Stiefvater.
In Episode 21 features the triumphant return of Don Carroll, owner of Jack the Pelican Presents. Don, Boris, Jay and painter / art critic James Kalm discuss a variety of artwork on the sim spending a good deal of the time talking about the epic installation by ichibot nishi. We talk about some of the things that make some kenetic SL sculptures really interesting while others of them are... not so much. Jay says that a red-hot sculpture "leaves him cold" and Don reveals to the audience a reason why you may be glad this is an audio podcast.... or perhaps disappointed. As the saying goes there is no accounting for taste. Panel includes Boris Kizelshteyn, Don Carroll, Jay Van Buren and James Kalm.

Episode 20 is long, but its worth it!, we have a very interesting discussion that in some ways goes deeper than we ever have before into what virtual art is about, how its different from art in RL, what personhood is and what, if anything is "new" about this project and the virtual art that is getting talked about. New York-based artist Shane Hope asks pointed questions of Boris and Jay about every level of this project and makes some really interesting observations from his own unique techno-art-insider-but-sl-outsider perspective.

Episode 16 is one of the best ones we've done so far, chock-full of thoughtful criticism thanks to the return of Don Carroll, and the addition of Tyler Coburn and James Kalm, very smart writers and artists from the New York scene. For the first few minutes we talk about art in our neighborhood and the dive into the sim where controversy has been boiling over some art that may or may not be intentionally political and some art that is definately politicial. We also talk about one of the most interesting works we've had so far- the ghostly voices that have been speaking on the BIW sim for the past several days. Panel includes: Don Carroll, Boris Kizelshteyn, Katy Garnier, Jay Van Buren, Tyler Coburn, James Kalm. Artist discussed: Ichibot Nishi, Arahan Claveau, Klink Epsilon, Ford Heberle, Selavy Oh, Nebulosus Severine, Snowy Hoobinoo, Steven Venkman, Obscured Quandry, The Mystery Ghost-maker, Edgar Atlas<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BrooklynIsWatching/~4/ACOVFGl5iAo" height="1" width="1"/>

Striking from our hidden rebel base, we strike back against Radar Masukami from SL under the radar and citique his critique of our critique from podcast #9! ITS A PODCAST WAR look out everyone! Karl Stiefvater of Linden Labs, joins our panel to discuss his biological-algorithm-generated Second Life Cave systems and help us critique the Hobo living room the Last SLupper and lots of other interesting artworks. Amy thinks she sees something by AM Radio, and then is disappointed and then happy and we all get to feel like we're famous for 15 seconds because of interective 2d trash journalists.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BrooklynIsWatching/~4/oqyDjdtQ2Pk" height="1" width="1"/>

This is Episode 11, we’re recording again through SL voice due to unexpected technical problems (we’re cursed, i swear). We discuss a penis fountain, a giant floating cube, an audiobiographical story-sculpture inside a pink hemisphere and many other strange and wonderous things. Don explains how Jack the Pelican exists because he wants to fall in love and later goes off on formalism, saying a number of things that Jay takes time to disagree with in this later blog discussion. We talk about Amy’s Creepy Loveletter to AM Radio. We also take note of the huge up-tick in traffic to the BIW sim that has happened since SecondLife.com featured us on their showcase… um late-night avatars out there… not all of us think of you as rats. I know alot of you are out there listening to these podcasts because we can see the steady rise in our stats so let your voice be heard by posting on this blog and telling us what you think about all the crazy nonsense that came out of our mouths during this podcast. Which works would you give a 10 out of 10… or 4 thumbs up… or any of the other rating systems we are using?

In this our 9th episode becomes the Jay, DC and Amy show when Kat2 Kit has no headset, Boris is sick and Don can't make it. We recorded everything on Skype and as Kat2 predicted the sound quality is probably the best we've had since the early all-in-one-room-with-one-mic episodes. SHOW NOTES: We debate the term "Hyperformalism" - Amy asks how much it has to do with the concept of formalism in high-modernist critical theory, DC says not as much as she thinks. We debate the legitimacy of what DC calls "re-mediated" artwork in SL when an artist makes a virtual representation of something from another medium. Jay asks if part of the debate over whether art in SL should look like something from the real world or try to be apart from the real world relates to your attitude toward what you think will come in SL later... that is do artists have in your heads the notion that eventually SL will be entirely immersive, engaging all of our senses in a way that rivals the real world --Amy says that Jay is Gay and BIW is all a sham. "we are nothing but water-bags" "we are meat-monsters" - DC We also all discuss our favorite forms of Booze. Panel included: Amy Freelunch, Jay Newt, DC Spensely, Kat2 Kit. Artists Discussed: Cheen Pitney, Jazrupt Naheed, Nebulosus Severine, Selavy Oh, Ichibot Nishi, Juria Yoshikawa, Gwenette Writer.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BrooklynIsWatching/~4/eys7Uw17E3s" height="1" width="1"/>

Artists Discussed: Cheen Pitney, Jazrupt Naheed, Nebulosus Severine, Selavy Oh, Ichibot Nishi, Juria Yoshikawa, Gwenette Writer.</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Second,Life,brooklyn,blog,art,conceptual,art,SL,williamsburg,new,york</itunes:keywords>

<feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3?http://www.brooklyniswatching.com/podcast/biw9.mp3</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

This week we continue our streak of bad technical luck but with a little help from our friends, Thanks PA pawpets! we were able to get the conversation going over teamspeak. Once again SL did not disappoint creating an increadible number of artworks, and we didn't get to talk about nearly as many as we wanted to. Jay forgets to enforce the 3 minute rule, then is reminded, then forgets again as the conversation lurches wildly from the specific to grandious pronouncements and back again. Participants : Boris Kizelshteyn, Tim Sullivan, Jay Van Buren, Amy Wilson, Kat2 Kit, Seddel Clawtooth, DC Spensly.
Our third podcast is a little short dear listeners, and we would like to promise you a much improved podcast next week. We had a very good week for the BIW SIM and for the blog and lots to talk about in our next podcast which will be in a snappier format. This podcast features an interview of PatriciaAnne Daviau by the panda (in panda voice) Kat2 Kit, and also the chopped up remains of a panel discussion recorded under duress from an art fair on set-up day.. along with jay's after the fact commentary on the same. Don was too busy manning Jack the Pelican's booth at the Scope Art Fair this but if you miss him, you can go to the BIW sim on saturday night, because JTPP will be open late and packed with art-fair visitors who want to see what SL has to offer 'till 11pm eastern.
