Call 869-1534 by May 1st to make an appointment to have large appliances picked up

Hi Neighbors,

Please join us this Wednesday, March 7th, at 6:30PM for the monthly Browne's Addition Neighborhood Council Meeting.

On the agenda for this month are some very important topics for safety and care of our neighborhood! Officer David Lok from Code Enforcement will be coming to talk about ways we can keep our neighborhood beautiful and well cared for, while Lt. Bill Drollinger will be joining us to discuss how to deal with crime in the neighborhood. In addition, police Omsbudsman Tim Burns will be addressing us in regards to the way he and his office might help our neighborhood.

We need your voice, your concerns, and your help in making Browne's Addition a great place to live, work, and play. Please join us!

Instead of their usual meeting, the Browne's Addition Neighborhood Council will be having it's holiday party this Wednesday evening. It will be held at the historic Campbell House from 6:30-8:30pm.

All residents of the neighborhood are welcome to attend. Feel free to bring a dish or something to drink for the party.

Leaf Pickup Scheduled for Tomorrow and Wednesday

From the City of Spokane:

The City of Spokane will proceed with leaf pickup in the streets of Browne’s Addition on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 29 and 30, starting at 9 a.m. unless we have snow. The trucks will be on the north-south streets in Browne’s Addition on Tuesday and the east-west streets on Wednesday.

Cars must be moved because the streets are so narrow in Browne’s Addition the trucks cannot get through with parked vehicles lining the streets. Crews will post informational signs this week notifying residents. Vehicles parked on the street when the trucks come in will be subject to towing.

There will be a fall neighborhood garbage pickup on Monday, October 31st. Originally the pickup was to be on October 25, but we got the date pushed out in hopes that a lot of leaves will fall by then. Instead of the usual clean & green pickup (yard waste), this one will be a general pickup.

This means you can put out just about anything except appliances.

We will be flyering the neighborhood this week to make sure everyone knows about the pickup.

We are looking to enrich our neighborhood through various service projects. We want to add value to Browne's Addition and make it a better place for everyone to live. After we have served and cleaned up the neighborhood in various capacities we will then head over to Coeur d'Alene Park to grill out. The grilling at the park will be a great opportunity to invite neighbors, developer relationships, and share fun times at the park.

We need people to help:

Pick up trash along Sunset Blvd.
Weed eat along Sunset Blvd. (please bring your own weed eater)
Blow off side walks
Rake and bag leafs
Pick up garbage on local streets.
Paint? (graffiti cleanup and stair hand rails)
Bring various outdoor games for park recreation

October 23rd at 10 AM. Meet at Steve Hart's house (215 S Canon St) for service assignment and partners.

The main topic of conversation for this month's meeting is the future of ArtFest in our neighborhood. There are rumors that the much-loved event may be moving to Riverfront Park. If you want it to stay in Browne's Addition, be sure to make it to the meeting this Thursday. As usual, the meeting is held in the Gilkey Community Room of the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture from 6:30-8pm on the first Thursday of the month.

We will hear a debrief from David Brum about ArtFest and Marshall Powell about ElkFest. There will also be an update on the proposed STA Trolley.

If that's not enough of a reason to attend; Mary Moltke will be sharing a historical highlight. They are always interesting.

This just in:
My name is Erica Roberts and I am on the Save the MAC committee. I've spoken at a number of neighborhood council meetings about Save the MAC efforts. As you know, the MAC received state funding so the museum will remain open!

The Save the MAC committee is planning a "VIP" event for Browne's Addition residents as a way of thanking the neighborhood for their support during the Save the MAC campaign, as well as encouraging their support in the future. We are going to do a "BeGin-esque" type event...it will be on July 6th from 6-8 pm, the DaVinci exhibit will be open with tickets sold at member prices, and we are going to do an ice cream social.

This Weekend Is Going To Be Huge!

This is arguably the biggest weekend of the year for Browne's Addition. From ArtFest to ElkFest to the new Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at The MAC to First Friday, there is no shortage of fun things to do in the 'hood.

ArtFest once again kicks off today in Coeur d'Alene park at noon. It will run through the weekend. For more information, check out the schedule provided by The MAC.

Cannon street will be closed down between 2nd and Pacific this weekend for ElkFest. If you are new to the neighborhood (or Spokane for that matter), ElkFest is a weekend of outdoor concerts by some of the coolest local and regional bands around. The Inlander has a preview as well as a schedule of the shows online.

If all that wasn't enough to do this weekend, The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture is premiering it's Leonardo da Vinci exhibit. It will run until September, but why not check it out while your are out and about in Browne's Addition?

It's weekends like this that make us proud to live in Browne's Addition.

This month's guest speaker is Kitty Klitzke of Futurewise. She will be talking about the Complete Streets initiative and how it affects Browne's Addition. She will also be discussing problem intersections in Browne’s Addition ~~as well as a future Downtown Trolley system~~. Andrew Rolwes from the Downtown Spokane Partnership is coming to give a very quick update on the Downtown Trolly situation.

The Browne's Addition Neighborhood Council Meeting is held on the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8pm in the Gilkey Community Room at the MAC.

Plenty Of Things Going On In The Neighborhood This Weekend.

The upcoming Easter weekend is full of things to do in Browne's Addition. The weekend starts off with a neighborhood Spaghetti Dinner on Friday evening from 5-6:30pm at All Saints Lutheran Church (314 S. Spruce). The dinner is being put on by the Browne's Addition Neighborhood Council. It is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5 to cover costs.

Then on Saturday we are having our yearly Neighborhood Yard Sale. There are a lot of interesting things to be found for sale by our residents; you don't want to miss it. If we're lucky the recent Winter-ish weather will be behind us and Spring will make an appearance. The yard sales generally run from 8am-3pm, but residents may set different hours. Tables can also be available for use in the parking lot of All Saints Lutheran Church.

An Easter Egg Hunt will take place in Coeur d'Alene Park on Saturday, April 23rd from 10am until Noon.

Finally, all the stuff you didn't sell during the Neighborhood Yard Sale and want to dispose of can be taken care of during the Browne's Addition Neighborhood Spring Clean Up. It takes place on April 26th. More information about the clean up will be posted soon.

Tomorrow the 2011 Komen Race for the Cure makes its way through the neighborhood.

Tomorrow, Sunday April 17, the 2011 Komen Race for the Cure is taking place. The race starts at 9am and will be making its way through Browne's Addition. Because of our "cozy" streets, officials have put up No Parking signs on some of the streets. They will only impact parking on one side of the affected streets. We don't know what time they will be begin enforcing the signs, but it is probably a good idea to move your car tonight if it needs to be moved. Here are the streets that are affected (with the side of the street cars will need to be moved from):

Cannon between Riverside and Pacific (West)
Chestnut between Pacific and 2nd (East)
Elm between 2nd and 1st (East)
1st between Elm and Maple (North)

A discussion about trees in the neighborhood. Matt McCain from the Neighborwoods Program and Beth Mort from Spokane Urban Forestry – Heritage Tree Program will be at the meeting to talk about trees in Browne's Addition and beyond.

The Browne's Addition Neighborhood Council and Steering Committee will be holding its first meeting of 2011 this Wednesday, January 5th, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Museum of Arts and Culture (the MAC).

There is a new council to introduce, with most of the time will spent conducting a brainstorming session to decide what projects to tackle this year. One topic that will probably get a lot of attention is the future of the MAC. Come with plenty of ideas for the group.

Snow Plowing Tues and Wed

Remember, the City will plow Browne's Addition on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 4 and 5. North-south streets are planned for Tuesday and east-west streets on Wednesday. Plowing will begin at 9 a.m. on both days. Because streets in Browne's Addition are very narrow, all cars must be moved to accommodate the plows. Cars that aren't moved will be towed.

You can temporarily park your car on levels 2 and 3 of our parking garage on Tuesday and Wednesday when the City plows Browne’s Addition streets. Please do not park on the top level because we will be doing snow removal there. Please remove your cars by Thursday, December 2nd, we need parking spaces for museum visitors. Thank you.

Tell a friend! It's in everybody's best interests that we get the streets cleared of cars for the Big Plows.

Doug and Jonathan,
We are scheduled for Browne’s Addition plowing on Tuesday and Wednesday. We’ll do north-south streets on Tuesday and east-west streets on Wednesday. Cars will need to be moved to accommodate the plows or they will be towed.
I will send out the information to the media in the next few minutes. We’ll post to the web, tweet, email out to everyone who has an email on file with us, and add to Metroguide on CityCable 5, etc.
Of course, whatever you can do on your ends will be very helpful, too.

Hi all,
I've updated our release from this morning. We will start in residential plow routes 22, 23, and 24 at about noon. These areas typically don't have a lot of people who park on the street so the plows shouldn't have trouble. Check out the map at http://www.spokanestreetdepartment.org/documents/snowroutemap.pdf to see the route numbers. We should have 40 pieces of equipment out on the streets by around noon, including plows, graders, and de-icers.

Also, Street Department officials are reminding people not to blow or shovel snow into the street. Please shovel or blow your snow into your yards. That helps minimize the snow that the plows will push onto sidewalks or the end of driveways.

GET OUT YOUR SHOVELS; SNOW SEASON BEGINS

Mayor Verner says City is prepared; encourages residents to do the same

With lots of predictions for higher-than-normal snowfall this winter, the City of Spokane is officially marking the start of snow season. The City has been preparing for snow and is encouraging citizens to take steps to prepare as well.

“Snow is a fact of life in the Inland Northwest, so we must be proactive in our winter preparations and our approach to snow removal,” says Mayor Mary Verner. “Today, we’re taking an opportunity to remind people of our snow removal plan and what we all can do to make winter weather more manageable.”

The City’s snow removal plan is designed to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians, ensure emergency responders can reach citizens, and enhance movement for pedestrians, motorists and economic activity.

The City revised its snow removal plan last year, following two years of heavy snow accumulation, and committed to enhancing snow removal efforts, stepping up sidewalk snow removal around City-owned property, and enhancing communications efforts with citizens. Citizens and business owners, meanwhile, are asked to follow parking restrictions and keep sidewalks, vehicles, hydrants, and storm drains clear of snow.

Details of the snow removal plan, along with a map of residential snow plow routes, will be available in the Nov. 18 Inlander and Spokesman-Review Voice sections. In addition, this information has been sent out in the City’s November utility bills and is available on-line atwww.spokanecity.org.

Under the plan, the City defines the snow season as Nov. 15 to March 15. During this time, the City may declare a snow emergen-cy when weather conditions warrant.

A Stage 1 Snow Emergency is declared when 2 inches of snow are on the ground and 4 more are anticipated during the current snow event; a Stage 2 Snow Emergency is declared when 6 inches of snow are on the ground and more is anticipated in the current snow event.

A Stage 1 Snow Emergency will require citizens to move parked cars off of all arterials and STA fixed bus routes, while a Stage 2 Snow Emergency will require citizens to park on one side of the street in residential areas. This year, citizens will be asked to park on the side of the street with even number addresses. The parking changes will allow plow drivers to open up streets better, allowing for easier and safer travel during heavy snows. The City expects to issue warnings to those who are parked incorrectly.

Removing snow from sidewalks within 24 hours of a snow storm also is critical. A committee of citizens, local school representatives, Spokane Transit Authority representatives, and City employees looked at an enhanced approach to sidewalk snow removal that would eventually require tickets for those who failed to comply. This year, the City is asking for voluntary compliance.

In addition to revising our snow removal plan, the City has made additional preparations for winter weather in recent weeks, including:

Installing the plow blades on the City’s dump trucks.
Purchasing de-icer and sand.
Stocking up on tire chains, shovels, and other winter equipment.
Ensuring contracts are in place with private contractors who would supplement City snow removal crews during Stage 2 snow emergencies.
Changing our employee schedules in the Street Department to provide 20-hour-a-day coverage.
Beginning 24-7 monitoring of weather conditions.

The City also would like to encourage residents to consider what they need to do to get ready for winter in the Inland Northwest. Among other things, residents should:

Make sure they have adequate snow supplies at home—shovels, along with sand or de-icer are a good start.
Ensure that vehicles are equipped for snow. Tires should be aggressive enough for winter weather and throw a few basic supplies in the trunk, including a blanket, a shovel, and some traction sand.
Check with neighbors who might need assistance keeping their driveways and sidewalks clear of snow and ice. Offer to help them throughout the winter season.
Familiarize themselves with the parking restrictions during snow emergencies. Those who park on an arterial or fixed STA bus route must move their cars within 6 hours of a declared Stage 1 snow emergency. During a Stage 2 snow emergency which includes a full-City plow, residents need to park on the even side of the street for the 2010-11 winter in residential areas until the plows complete their work.
