Since version 2.0, we’ve set ourselves up with an aggressive list of targets to reach this year with Final Login and in this latest version, we are proud to have shortened that list. Here are the main highlights that come with the new version 2.2:

Drag and drop: Final Login now supports dragging and dropping any file from your computer directly into Final Login. See an example of this feature in action with our award-winning Parser, “MyPics.” The ability to drag and drop files into Final Login opens up many powerful possibilities for future Parsers created and we are looking forward to seeing what will be created.

Macintosh OS support: We are very proud to announce that Final Login officially runs on Mac OS X (10.4 and later). With this support, Final Login can run on practically any computer and, therefore, you have the freedom to access it from practically anywhere.

Performance: Even though Final Login was already optimized to give you quick access and fast processing, we dug a little deeper… With this new release comes improved performance and techniques that keep the application running even more stable and responsive.

New Parser: Just as we explained above, there exists a new Parser called “MyPics” in Final Login. MyPics allows you to drag and drop photos from your computer into its interface. You can then edit these photos with over 20+ photo editing options, give them captions, and then save them to your MySpace account with a single click. Watch the video of MyPics and see for yourself.

I hope you enjoy the new version as much as we have enjoyed building it and we are looking forward to releasing even more features in the near future. Do you have an idea for something you’d like to see in Final Login? Let us know in the comments.

In order for Final Login to help empower your web browsing experience, lets us know what you think the web should do for you and we’ll try our best to make that happen.

Awarded:

On March 10th, 2010, our submission called “MyPics” was voted “Most innovative use of Photos” in the MySpace Developer Challenge by MySpace’s Co-President, Mike Jones, renowned American angel investor, Ron Conway, Director of Engineering at Google, David Glazer, and American blogger and technical evangelist, Robert Scoble!

Overview:

In early 2010, MySpace started accepting submissions for its Developer Challenge and based on the categories to choose from, we knew we had a good chance at contending, especially with the recent features released in the latest version of Final Login; specifically, Drag and Drop, File reading, and HTML 5 canvas support. We immediately envisioned a picture editor (using canvas) and dragging and dropping pictures from a computer file system into the Final Login application. Our vision became a reality with the creation of the Parser called “MyPics.” Just as we envisioned, MyPics allows you to drag and drop pictures from your computer’s file system into the selected MySpace Album. Once dropped in, clicking a picture thumbnail brings up the picture editor, which provides more than 20 different picture modification options and Undo/Redo support. After dragging and dropping your pictures from your computer, editing them, adding/updating picture captions, adding and updating new albums and their names, MyPics allows you to save all of this information to MySpace with a single click. This bulk addition/management functionality enables MyPics to really save you time, especially if you have a lot of pictures to upload, captions to set, and edits to make.

Watch MyPics in action:

Forward Thinking:

With its current feature set, MyPics is already very helpful, so here are some future features we would like to implement, as well as
possible future directions to take with our picture editor.

Drag and drop folders: There are times when one may have folders of pictures that they wish to upload to MySpace; therefore, we will be trying to support dragging and dropping folders into MyPics.

Adding more picture modification options to the picture editor: While the 20+ picture modification options currently supported are a decent set to use, there are definitely a few others we will be trying to support as well.

Standalone picture editing Parser: Moving our picture editor into a Parser of its own would open it up for supporting any picture being edited from within Final Login and, therefore, more picture managers/uploaders could be created (Facebook, Imageshack, Twitter, Flickr, etc.).

Got any ideas for MyPics or the picture editor? Let us know in the comments!

We’ve been hard at work and moving fast to get Craigslist Live available with two brand new important features: Saved Searches and Saved Postings.

Saved Searches:

Now, after you perform a search, you have the option of saving it, in case you want to run it again later. With this feature, you will no longer forget about the right search settings to find what you were looking for. Simply save the search once and re-run it again with a single click!

Saved Postings:

With Saved Postings, you have the flexibility and efficiency to quickly look over results without having to read them in full. This way, if you are at all interested in them, save them with a single click and allow yourself to read them more in full, later.

Because you can install Final Login on multiple computers, your Saved Searches and Save Postings will travel with you wherever you go! We hope you enjoy these new features and we are always welcoming feedback on not only Craigslist Live, but on Final Login as well.

Watch this video to see the new features in action:

We would like to proudly announce the first Parser created for Final Login, “Craigslist Live.” “Craigslist Live” allows for full Craigslist search capabilities and viewing each result individually. While viewing each result, you WILL NOT lose view of the full result set, like on the Craigslist website or with most other Craigslist applications out there. After setting up your initial search criteria, if you are happy with the results, just let the Parser continue and it will provide you with new results as they come in. View these new results while at your computer, as well as get notified of these new results via email and/or text message. All new, unread results are also stored, in case you are not receiving notifications via email/text message and are away from your computer.

Saved postings: Having the ability to store postings to read later. This will allow someone to quickly skim over results and save postings they find interesting, in order to read later.

Saved searches: Having the ability to save a search, in case you can’t leave the Final Login application open and running. This comes in handy with having favorite searches you run every so often.

UPDATE (1/25/2010): These features are now available. The above video shows them and you can read about them as well.

Our newest version of Final Login is packed with so many important, new features that we had to go into detail within each one here on the blog. Before you read on, though, it would be best to get yourself familiar with our product and our company first. While version 1.1 had paved the way for the fundamental building blocks of being able to access website content from the application, version 2.0 provides a couple key new features that allow its potential to really shine.

Local Notifications

Instead of having to check Final Login to see if it has returned the results you want, you can now let it run and then be notified with an alert sound, letting you know that you have new results. If you are using the application when a notification appears, you will see a little pop-up message, describing the results, in the bottom right-hand corner of the application window. If you are not using the application at the time it tries to notify you, you will see a little pop-up message, describing the results, in the bottom right-hand conrer of your desktop. If you aren’t able to read the message in the little pop-up, before it disappears, it will be stored in the notifications panel and a message count is displayed, letting you know how many unread notifications you have in the panel. This way, you will always be able to have your notifications stored, so you don’t miss out on data found by Final Login. Notifications have “click” actions as well, so if a notification is setup to show you the data once you “click” on it, it will do so. So, in summary, local notifications allow you to be notified by a little pop-up inside the application, a little pop-up outside of the application (on your desktop), and by sound, all the while being stored in the notification panel in case you miss any.

Remote Notifications

If you are not at your computer while Final Login is working hard, finding the content you want, we have setup “Remote Mode” for the application. Once you place the application in “Remote Mode,” all notifications will come via text message or email or both, depending on how you configure it. Not only do you configure the medium through which you will get remote notifications, but also the frequency (every 5 minutes, every 10 hours, every month, etc.). While receiving remote notifications, you can update the medium and frequency for which you want to receive them simply by replying to the notification with a defined set of numeric replies. Replying with the number four (“4″), for example, will turn off notifications via email. Replying with the number seven (“7″) will turn on notifications via text message. And if you ever forget the available numeric replies, just remember this one: reply with the number zero (“0″) and it will send you another notification with the list of all available replies (currently there are 8 different replies to choose from). This is great, because it gives you the power of Final Login without having to be at your computer, with the medium and frequency of notifications being completely under your control.

Tours

We have added an interactive introduction tour of Final Login, which explains the basics of using the application. The tour let’s you interact with Final Login during the tour, so that you can literally “get a feel” for how to use it. Because the tour does not require a Final Login account, you can get a feel for its features immediately after installing it and without having to create an account first. If you are logged into the application, though, we have also established a way for you to access mini tours, which help explain how to get to the content you want. Since getting to the content you want can become very custom, these mini tours will really help you feel comfortable getting established.

Clipboard Tools

With version 2.0, a fully-featured clipboard has been integrated into the application, so that you can perform the basic clipboard options you are used to performing with traditional web browsing. Such as: Copy, Copy Link, Copy Email Address, Copy Image, Paste, Cut, Select All, etc. With all of the web content being provided to you from within the application, you can now interact with the applicable information using the clipboard as you are normally used to.

Single Logon

Because you may use multiple computers (at home vs. at work, for example), you may be logging into Final Login from multiple places. In version 2.0, we have set it up such that logging into one location will log you out of any other location from which you may be logged in. This feature serves many purposes. First, it keeps from multiple notifications being sent from the different places in which you are logged in. Second, it avoids Final Login from retrieving content when it doesn’t have to. Finally, and most importantly, if you forgot you left Final Login logged in somewhere that another person was able access, logging in at another location will keep that person from being able to use your account.

Some planned features for 2010

As much as the above features for version 2.0 add an extraordinary amount of power to Final Login, we are always compiling a list of features the future versions will have. Here are some we plan on releasing soon in 2010:

Drag and drop: We will enable the ability to not only drag and drop web content from and into appropriate places within the application, we will also enable the ability to drag and drop files from your computer into the Final Login application. Example: dragging and dropping in photos, videos, or music from your computer that you wish to upload to a particular website.

Remote notifications for instant messengers (IM): We plan on supporting as many IM clients as possible, so that you can receive remote notifications from Final Login via IM and reply back to Final Login from within the chat window. Because IM is a very easy way to engage in communication, having you be able to communicate with Final Login will be very powerful.

Remote notifications with more reply options: The current reply options for remote notifications is limited in the fact that you can only control the medium and frequency for which you receive remote notifications. We plan to offer new reply options, such as remote content retrieval starting/stopping and remotely logging in/out of the application. We may even release the ability for custom replies defined per content retriever (called Parsers), so that, for example, an email Parser could have support for a custom reply to define which email folders to check.

Macintosh OS support: Currently we only support Windows and Linux, so we will be supporting Final Login running on the Macintosh Operating System early in the year. At that point, your Final Login account could be accessed from practically any computer; providing much flexibility in when and where you want to use it.

Performance: While we have already updated the application to be faster in version 2.0, we will be planning on many more performance and efficiency improvements to make using Final Login even better and more fluid.

Many more Parsers: We are constantly thinking up new ideas for Parsers and while many of them are currently in the development stage, we will be releasing them soon. Our list of Parsers continues to grow with each new idea we come up with, but can grow even faster with the ideas you come up with. Not sure what a Parser is? Find out here.

We have quite a few other features in mind, but they won’t be ready for release until later in the year, so please check back on this blog, subscribe to the blog’s feed, or follow us on twitter to stay up-to-date. We always encourage feedback, as well, because we want to make Final Login support the features you want.

After reading this, I hope you are as excited as we are for the new version of Final Login and what it will become in the near future. Download it now and take control of the web.

In order for Final Login to help empower your web browsing experience, lets us know what you think the web should do for you and we’ll try our best to make that happen.

A Parser is a piece of software that runs on the Final Login application. While the word “Parser” has a couple different meanings in a dictionary, to us, it simply means an interactive piece of software that retrieves content from websites. A single Parser has the ability to retrieve content from multiple websites and organize all of that information into a simple interface that someone can interact with. A Parser can also deliver that information on different mediums outside of the Final Login application, such as email and/or text message. The purpose of a Parser is to deliver specific web content in new, automated, empowering ways and help people utilize that content in an efficient and easy manner.

Even though there is much I’d like to go into with regard to our upcoming new release of Final Login, it is important to have a long overdue introduction. So, without further adieu, let me start by answering the question, “why Browser Not Included?”

Browser Not Included was founded on the belief that accessing the web can and should be a whole lot easier and more powerful than it currently is for the average web user. When I first go into explaining what it is we do and have done with our product, Final Login, people are skeptical, as well as a little confused on its real-world implications. This is a valid reaction, considering most people are happy browsing the internet, looking for their favorite content and using their favorite websites, without questioning how much easier it could be. The reaction is further justified when people either do not have an option to access their favorite content any easier or when they are used to the routine they take in getting to their favorite content. And so there has been a paradigm established for browsing websites, and this paradigm, while appearing either easy or without alternatives, has an obvious need for a shift.

Let me continue with an example use case. A typical web browsing day for me may include opening my work email, my personal email, reading 5 – 7 different news websites’ top stories, catching up on some new online videos, and staying up to date with my friends/associates through different social/business networking websites. While I do have ALL DAY to open those websites and to view that content, I know I could do without remembering the different email/username/password combinations and opening up the several browser windows or tabs, as well as navigating to find that content if it isn’t on the homepage. I feel it would save me a lot of time, clicks, and typing to just have one application provide that information, all the time, practically live, and from practically anywhere I am located. This is the empowering ability we have created with our product Final Login.

While Final Login is a very new product and has many more features we will be adding to its potential, even at this stage, it has an almost limitless potential for automating your routine web browsing experience away from the browser and into a single application. That is the most obvious use case for Final Login, because it saves you time for those routine experiences, in which all that is wanted, in the end, is information. Did I get a new email? What are my friends and associates doing? Are there any new videos or news stories out yet?

While those features definitely help people with providing immediate answers to the more obvious questions, the true potential with Final Login comes with its ability to answer questions people wouldn’t dare to ask within the normal web browsing paradigm. A question like, “Can I be notified by email or text message when a new video, news story, or book releases that both myself and my close colleague are interested in, which has a high approval rating?” Or how about, “Is it possible to make groups of only certain friends and associates from multiple websites, and then only be notified about them or send messages to them?” Or, “I want to know immediately by text message and email when a new rental listing is posted that fits my criteria and I want the email to include a map showing me its location, as well as the top 5 reviews for the location.” These example ideas I just literally thought of off of the top of my head. Imagine the possible ideas I could think of if I had all day to think of them? And what if YOU came up with some ideas? What would you come up with? When it comes to the web, Final Login can practically make any idea you have become a reality. This is why we are very excited around here, because we are watching the traditional web browsing paradigm shift happen with each website Final Login supports.

Let me be clear, the web browser was and still is a fundamental tool to initiate communication between the world and all web users. Browser Not Included does not believe the web browser should be dismissed at all, because it allows users to experience websites in their immediate, browser-oriented state, just as the website owner intended. Our goal is simply to provide a means for the user to use the websites’ content as the USER is intending and in new, creative ways that explore unknown potential.

I hope this introduction helps you understand our company and its passion to provide new possibilities for how everyone interacts with the web.

In order for Final Login to help empower your web browsing experience, lets us know what you think the web should do for you and we’ll try our best to make that happen.
