Serious Safari Security Flaw Found: A Bug Makes Vulnerable Your Personal Informations

If you are among the more than 80 million people who use Apple’s Safari browser to surf the web, you may want to change your settings stat.

At the moment, if you are a Safari user, who surfs the web visiting web pages and stuff, a malicious website can uncover your first name, last name, work place, city, state, and your email address. Even if you’ve never been there, or entered any personal information, before.

This is possible using an exploit discovered in Safari’s AutoFill that allows malicious websites to extract a user’s first name, last name, work place, city, state, and email address. They don’t even need to fill out a form to trigger the bug: It can occur simply by their loading the site and takes place in just seconds. WhiteHat Security’s Jeremiah Grossman has described it in greater detail.

In Safari, AutoFill uses data from the users personal record in the local operating system address book. Again it is important to emphasize this feature works even though a user never entered this data on any website. Also this behavior should not be confused with normal auto-complete data a Web browser may remember after its typed into a form.

In a few seconds the page shows you your first name, last name, work place, city, state, and your email address. Luckly this is only an harmless demo, but it works exactly how could works a malicios website. But in a malicious website your personal data may be transmitted to the operator of the site without you to do anything, and without you see anything. All this could happen in backgroud while you are surfing the Web.

In other words, with Safari you can steal the identity of a visitor without noticing. Goodbye anonymity. Imagine putting a trap on a website with objectionable content and thus steal the identities of visitors. The possibility of spamming and blackmail are easy to guess.

Manage The Browser Via Webcam: Opera Face Gestures

We talk a lot about Firefox and Chrome. They are the most known browsera together with Internet Explorer but there are some browsers like Opera that offer a lot of additional features by default, unluckily they fade into the background in comparison with the most popular web-browsers.

Today I want to inform you about a particular Opera feature: Opera Face Gestures. What is it?

It’s a feature that allow you to manage your browser’s activity just using your face and a webcam. Using this feature you can surf the web without using, almost never, the mouse.

The best is that you have to do anything to can use this feature because it’s in the last Opera version by default!

Opera is one of the most innovating Web-browsers around. Eight years ago Opera’s team introduced Mouse Gestures to speed up users interaction with the browser and focus on what’s important: the content you’re looking at.

In 2005 they introduced Voice Navigation on the desktop and more recently they have worked with Nintendo to create a browser that takes full advantage of the “Wiimote” and later, the touchscreen in the DSi.

They did Opera Face Gestures, using a webcam as an input device and allowing people to manage the browser using them faces! I think that it’s a very useful feature, maybe to most of us it could be just a cool way to use your browser, but to many people this could be the only way.

Today we introduce Face Gestures, a revolutionary technology designed to make interacting with your browser easier and simpler on computers with cameras. Face Gestures lets you perform frequent browsing operations with natural and easy to make face gestures. By using an internal technology dubbed Face Observation Opera Language, we are able to recognize pre-determined facial expressions and match them to commands on the Opera browser.

Beards and hair styles
Face Gestures is compatible with most types of facial hair and haircuts. But if your face is covered with more than 25% of facial hair, recognition errors may occur. Please note that handlebars and goatees are compatible independently but if combined recognition will decrease. At the moment soul-patches crashes the browser and it refuses to relaunch, we are looking into this problem. Bushmen beards and emo haircuts are not supported.

Adult Web sites
Users visiting Web sites that contain adult content sometimes make unconscious facial expressions. If Opera keeps opening Speed Dial and Zooming In and Out, please be aware that this not a bug. It may be useful to disable Face Gestures for a better experience. Also remember that wiping your cache is recommend after visiting untrusted websites.

Financial Web sites
For compatibility reasons Face Gestures auto-detects financial news services and disables itself. The current version of the recognition software is unable to adapt fast enough to the sudden change in the users expression map. As soon as the new version is available you will be prompted to install stimulus_package.patch.

This topic borns because many people are wondering which one is the best social network between Facebook and Twitter. There’s not an answer to this question that’s because there’s too many differences between them, and they are intended for different uses.

Facebook
It is the most famous social network, both for the number of subscribers and the size of public. This is because is the best social network to find old friends, family members, former classmates, and to make new friends.

When you share something in Facebook, usually, you use a friendly and close language. That’s because when you use it you are talking to people who already know you and your personality.

Additionally there is tools, like the integrated chat, that allow a 360° communication between users.

Twitter
Twitter is a new entry and it is differt from all others social network. That’s because it has not been created to find new friend. Contrariwise it’s cretaed to follow a specific topic (to know more about it read our 1st chapter).

Using Twitter is like to be in a mega party where you don’t know anyone. You have to communicate more quickly and effectively. You have to say what you want in just 140 characters.

Firefox For iPhone Is Coming: Firefox Home

Firefox Home is not another version of Firefox for Mobile, Fennec, its rather a window to access your Firefox world, making sure that you don’t miss any of your bookmarks, open tabs on other firefox and stuff.

Already in May, Mozilla announced that they are working to launch a Firefox browser for Apple’s iPhone. But since the Apple’s software development kit prohibits a competitive browser, Mozilla couldn’t have come up with a complete browser to replace Safari.

So they thought to come up with an App that enables the users to fetch their Firefox data from other devices on their iPhone, using Firefox Sync. (Firefox Sync, previously known as Weave Sync, syncs users data – open tabs, history, saved passwords, bookmarks, securely on a cloud which can be later accessed or downloaded by the user using the same application.)

This way while using your iPhone, you won’t miss the tabs open on your Office computer(running firefox) or the bookmarks on your Home computer. Ofcourse, to see the best results you will need to install the Firefox Sync addon on all your firefox installations.

Mozilla submitted Firefox Home to Apple’s app store the 1st July. No one knows how much time Apple will take to accept or reject it, could be days, weeks, months. Browserland will keep you updated with the result.

Mozilla Firefox 4 Beta Now Released

Finally Mozilla has released the beta version of Firefox 4!

I just red it and my first thought was to tell you to all Browserland readers. It can be downloaded here: Download Firefox 4 Beta

There’s a lot of news in this version. It includes a redesign of the user interface (tabs are now on top like in Google Chrome), enhanced HTML5 support, hardware-accelerated HD video, WebSockets and enhanced add-on support via Jetpack.

In the Feature Spotlight page you can see all the others features added in Firefox 4.

Mozilla needs to bring his browser to the top again and this new version could either reverse the downtrend or accelerate its fall.

I’m a Firefox Fan and I just downloaded Firefox 4 Beta. Maybe it will crash, sometimes, but I think it’s the most powerfull browser in the world.
