Again it was serviced (out of warranty) under the service enhancement program.  HP was quick, they shipped it back in about 2 days, and I was pleased to see it was well packaged.  I fired it up and .... and.....yeah, nothing happened.  It powered, beeped a few times and died.  I tried multiple times, same result.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Called HP, they said it was out of warranty.  When I explained it all again (that THEY just repaired it) and it was DOA, they finally said "great news - we will repair it under warranty"..duh, I would expect no less.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, I am waiting on it to arrive again. Last time they replaced the motherboard and reformatted the HD according to the packing list.  They obviously didn't turn it on to test it though.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I did email Jeff Utigard about it, no response in a week.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For the record, this is now the 4th time this DV9000Z has been in the shop, and it was a replacement DV9000Z for my original which lasted only two months.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'll keep you posted.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;This blog is to gather research and supporting material, contributions and expert advice for books written by

It discusses every possible type of benefits a    soldier could receive.&lt;br /&gt;  Reading this book opened my eyes to what generally goes on in the army.    The sections in the book that includes the discussion of payments    regarding wounds and illnesses appealed to me most. I never really put    much thought into soldiers being diagnosed with cancer while serving    their country and needing to undergo treatment. I also didn't realize    that soldiers also receive benefits for severe wounds, such as losing an    arm, a leg, or the ability to see.&lt;br /&gt;  I have never been very interested in the army, however this book kept me    interested and intrigued as I learned something new within each chapter.    It never occurred to me just how much thought must be put into deciding    which method of pay, and which type of investment a soldier could apply    for in order to receive the maximum benefits that they deserve.&lt;br /&gt;  This book is very detailed and easy to read and understand. There was one tip that I never knew,    each state has its own web site for Veterans and that these sites might    be easier to use than the Federal web site. If you have ever tried to    find information on the official federal Veterans web site then you know    how hard it can be to get answers.&lt;br /&gt;  &lt;br /&gt;  Lieutenant Commander Bruce C. Brown has done his homework to get    prepared for his retirement. Brown notes that in his introduction as well. However, it may be true    that younger veterans may get more use out of the book. Many older    veterans have already learned how to get the most out of their veterans    benefits, even if they did not have such a convenient guide.&lt;br /&gt;  &lt;br /&gt;  Brown did not cut corners with his research, either. He went the extra    mile to provide veterans with not only the names of offices and their    various functions, but also contact information such as telephone    numbers, Web sites and addresses. Several chapters are devoted to these strategies with regard to specific search engines, such as Google and Yahoo. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The purpose of search engine optimization (SEO) is to raise the ranking of your website on a particular search engine by the use of relevant keywords or phrases. The author explains how to choose the best keywords or phrases for your site and how to use META tags to raise your website’s ranking. He also discusses keyword placement on a webpage. Did you know that some search engines only “crawl” a small portion of the text on a particular webpage? &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Pay per click advertising (PPC) will reach millions of customers in a credible, cost-effective way. This type of online marketing plan can target a geographical area or demographic group, and it can be modified easily if it does not seem to be working. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The book also includes a history of online marketing and descriptions of types of online ads. As someone looking to grow an online business, this is a topic I have long been interested in, but knew very little about before reading this book. Brown goes through the history of Internet marketing and explains why Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is superior to other forms of online advertising. He explains how to budget for a PPC campaign and how to choose effective keywords, measure the return on investment and use Google and Yahoo’s campaign management systems. The case studies peppered throughout the book are particularly helpful as they offer real examples of PPC campaigns and their results.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;One complaint I had was that Brown spends a little more time than necessary discussing topics such as Search Engine Optimization. The book strays from its PPC strengths, but in that it also provides additional information for those who would like to know a little more about Internet marketing.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;I found this book very helpful as I prepared to launch my own PPC campaign. We meet some Pay Per Click guru’s that astound with their knowledge.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;“Forget schemes and empty promises. There is only one way to guarantee&lt;br /&gt;that your web site will get visibility, at the top of all major search engines. It is through hard work compared with P.P.C. advertising,” says Bruce.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;So much for my six pack of silver bullets. But he’s right. And when you think about it hard work never hurt anyone . . . . right.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;We now have two billion pages on the internet. Google and Yahoo come under the spotlight. Bruce even gives Microsoft ad Centre the once over.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;To get a maximum return, we are gonna need to do our homework. These three are the major players so study up and decide which is best for you.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Chapter 14 has some real case studies. One example is ‘The Hitchin Post.’ In Sep. and Oct. they did not spend on P.P.C. advertising. The money just trickled in.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The next month, Nov. they invested $550 on P.P.C. . the return was $2,375.55 . The following month $885 was shelled out and the payoff was a staggering $4,131.59 . Almost double.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;If this is not enough to convince you, on page 200 is a special report. Brown is a great book for small business owners and those with small marketing budgets. This comprehensive guide is a wonderful addition to anyone who wants to promote their business online. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The online pay-per-click system may seem complicated with its many ins and outs but with Brown’s book, you can implement his ideas with little to no money and do so easily. Each section offers a wealth of information for web marketing and pay-per-click newbies. There are even three separate sections each on how to use Google, Yahoo and Microsoft alone! The concepts are simple and the history of online marketing gives one a helpful background in getting started. Brown teaches you how to create a budget, devise a marketing strategy of your own and work from there. And once again, I was put back on the ground by the strict order of the book and its complete worldliness. Moreover, it looks rather Spartan. However, the book is by no means simple. On the contrary, compared to other web-based businesses e-mail marketing seems a more difficult area to succeed.&lt;br /&gt;I’d rather say that the target audience/customers of this issue are people, who have already had their web-based business and long to start another one. It is available for just about anyone. Whether you are an online merchant or a traditional retailer. There is something there for you.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;We are given an in depth history of the internet. I never knew it was first used by the military. Then there are when the first emails were sent. Totally mind boggling.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Bruce gives us the low down on four major areas of online marketing:&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Paid search advertisements (pay per click)&lt;br /&gt;Banner adverts&lt;br /&gt;Classified ads&lt;br /&gt;Email marketing&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Interweaved within all this are case studies that show how the best systems work. Chapter 15 is jam packed with them too.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The author, Bruce Brown teaches how to write an effective email. He starts with the subject line then gets around to the best day to send it. We all know why Mondays are not a good day and most of us can figure out why Fridays are not another good day.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Wait till you find out which is the best day and why. The best time for sending emails are 7am-10:30am. We also get a free treat. That is website optimization tools and some web design helps. The addresses are all in his book.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;As usual Bruce gives us a glossary. But because this book is such an easy read you won’t need it. When I started expanding my freelance business this year however, I was at a loss at how to promote myself other than getting a website. I’m a baby-boomer and overwhelmed at the pay-per-click and all the different ways to generate money on the web, but this book explains it in a way even me, the technically challenged, can understand! I’m a photographer so I’m a visual person, so naturally the best part of this book were the illustrations. You actually get to see the screen shot (what something looks like on your computer monitor) of Google Ads, what the ad will look like on a cell phone and so on. Definitely a plus for me since I get most of my information and understand things visually. The next best part is the bulleted items and the step-by-step approach. You really don’t have to be intuitive about this - they take you through it and don’t assume you know big chunks of things about the process.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;I didn’t know how keywords really worked before reading this book. I went to the Google site for help and didn’t understand it there, but this book I do get. Google ought to pay you guys for this and post this online instead of what they have!! The tips, tricks and secrets chapter is great! I’m intimidated enough by the internet - but this is like having your own geeky friend (one that actually can communicate in English) walk you through it. I can’t emphasize enough how great a help the illustrations are. They really do take the fear factor out of it - I can look at the book, look at my computer monitor and know I’m on the right track. There’s stuff in here I didn’t know I didn’t know, like combating pay-per-click fraud and all kinds of website url’s to go to for more information - although this book pretty much covers everything I need to know right now! One of the IT guys at work kept talking about SEO, and now I not only know that means Search Engine Optimization, I know what that means and why it’s important! Meta tags, keywords - wow. It’s all in here. If I, an aging boomer with no tech background can read and understand this - anyone can. Excellent! MUCH better than the Dummies books on the same or similar topics too. They not only tell you what TO DO, but what NOT TO DO - like replicating meta tags. I thought that would be a good thing to duplicate stuff - obviously not. So, they tell you how to NOT screw up as well as how to succeed! Just like a geek friend would! I love it! This is simple, easy to read and easy to understand. Thanks for holding my hand! It has Windows Vista Home Premium on it.  I replaced the RAM with 4GB of Geil 800MHZ DDR 2 with the heat shields.  Upgrade took about 2 minutes, worked perfectly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It did have excessive bloatware, which I removed. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I went from the AMD TL-56 with one 100GB 5400 RPM Drive to the T9300 with dual 120 GB 7200 RPM's.  HP kindly replaced it at no cost to me at all, plus this one now has a one year warranty.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hats off to HP. Both failed, and one was under warranty - got it back quickly in good condition and they replaced pretty much everything on it.  DV9000 #2 came back in under a week, they replaced the motherboard, LCD Bezel, LCD Cover.  THey did not reformat the drive, but obviously didn't test it either...it didn't boot.  I could have tried a new image, but why should I?  Anyway, I had been working right along with Mr. Jeff Utigard from HP who provided great communications and actually sent me emails asking how it was going.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I think since I am in the Coast Guard, and he has fond CG memories, this might have helped??&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyway, I emailed him today, he emailed back within an hour, said to configure a new HP system on  their site, within a hundred or so over my last configuration and send him the info. I did, and HP called today and said it was being built and will ship on the 25th.  My DV9000Z was a TL-56, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB 5400 RPM Drive with the lower resolution screen.....Although at the time, I paid about $1350 for it.
