Former Bruins defenseman Brad McCrimmon, 52, was killed in the crash of a Russian aircraft carrying the hockey team he coached. McCrimmon will always be remembered as one of the Bruins who followed Terry O'Reilly into the stands at Madison Square Garden.

Current weather forecasts suggest decent weather for Saturday's Parade and Rolling Rally celebrating the sixth Stanley Cup Championship for the Boston Bruins. The festivities start at 11 AM at the Garden and proceed through the downtown streets to Copley Square.

Bruins A Gritty Champion

All the experts talked about was the "skill gap" between the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins. Nobody could have foreseen the "will gap" that resulted in a gutty, gritty seven game win for the underdog. The best representation of the gap was watching one of the Sedin twins (it's hard to tell their ineptitude apart) impersonating a boxing speed-bag as Brad Marchand relentlessly popped him in the face in Game 6. That's all you needed to know. In fact, the Bruins could have won all three of the games they lost in Vancouver and this series would have been a 4 or 5-game laugher. In the final analysis, the Bruins outclassed the Canucks on nearly every element of the game—goals scored, goals allowed, power play goals, short-handed goals, face offs won—you name it.

For those of us old enough to remember the glory years of Orr and Esposito, and the gut-wrenching angst of the Neely Era, this one is especially sweet.

B's Set To Make History

No team in the history of the NHL has won three game sevens on their way to the Stanley Cup. The Bruins have that opportunity tonight as they try to end a 39-year drought and bring Lord Stanley's Cup back to the Hub.

If they play with the aggression and spirit they showed in the three Garden tilts, they have a legitimate chance to overcome the Canucks' home ice advantage. Scoring the first goal will be key. It would plant the seed of doubt in Luongo's head and render him useless.

The Bruins are better rested, tougher and more resilient that Vancouver. Most importantly, they have Tim Thomas. They have a real chance to make history.

Bruins On National TV Up To 13 Times

The NHL's television schedule for 2010-11 reveals that the Bruins will make national broadcast appearances up to 13 times. Early games of interest are the October 9th Prague opener and the October 19th game against the Capitals.

Of course, December 1st against the Flyers should be interesting—and any national game with the Habs.

Savard Hurt By Trade Rumors

Marc Savard's interview with the Ottawa Sun clearly demonstrates that the trade rumors this Summer hurt the Bruins center iceman. He told the paper:

“They hurt me a little bit just because I went to Boston and I helped to build that team back up. I’ve really tried to work hard with the young guys and being a core player. I was really focused on staying there for the rest of my career. To hear all this stuff this summer bothered me inside more than anything else. Right now I’m a Bruin and that’s the way it is."

Recent rumors have Savard going to the Maple Leafs in exchange for Tomas Kaberle.

Good-Guy Thornton Helps On Beckett Bowl

Despite his tough-guy image, Bruins forward Shawn Thornton (pictured with a young fan) has a softer side. At the recent Beckett Bowl, an annual charity event organized by Sox pitcher Josh Beckett, Thornton showed why hockey players are universally regarded as the "good guys" of professional sports.

Before any other celebrities came out to "meet and greet", Thornton was on the floor bowling and taking photos with young kids and their families. He was kind, patient and, most of all, he was there for the people that needed it most.

Doug Jarvis Named Assistant Coach

The Bruins announced that Doug Jarvis—a former Habs player and coaching assistant in the Stars and Montreal systems—will become Claude Julien's new assistant coach.

In 1984, Jarvis was named as the NHL’s top defensive forward. He finished up his playing career right here in New England with the Hartford Whalers.
