Salam, good day. The mass gathering and procession to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him held this morning nationwide. It was a very beautiful morning and the sun shining brightly. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam and members of the Royal Family has consented to attend the gathering. This year's maulud carries the theme 'Ukhuwah dan Muafakat Negara Berkat'. Some over 130 groups and also over 18,000 people took part at the mass gathering and procession in the capital. May we get the syafaat from Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. Amin ya rabbal 'alamin:)

Salam, good day. Now we are in the month of Rabiulawal. As usual the mosques and suraus nationwide is full of activities to commemorate the birthday and life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and one of the activities is the recital of dikir. The dikir recital will continue until the actual day of the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) birthday on the 12th Rabiulawal.

Whilst the hectic January is almost over and now we are heading to February which is only in few days time. The highlight in the month of January is the event called as "berjanawari". Have you ever heard of it?

According to Rozan Yunos In Brunei, a regatta used to be called "berjanawari", a word which will crop up every now and then among elderly folks in Brunei. Many have said that the word "berjanawari" comes from the month January. For these folks, "berjanawari" conjures up the time when January was a festival month hence, "berjanuari". In fact, Bruneians called the people who celebrated during this period "Orang berjanawari".

As for myself, I did produced a special documentary on this event for the state's radio and we do received a very good response among the listeners. It is so very special to revive and organised the boat race or regatta ini Brunei River which I believe would recalled the sweet memories for those who has lived in Kampong Ayer.

Are we going to see such race again next year? I hope so.

Also, I wish a happy Chinese New Year to all my chinese buddies. Although we didn't do much visit during this year's CNY, but I hope may the friendship will last. Xin nian kuai le and Gong xi fa cai:)

Salam, good day. Hope everyone of you, my dear readers are in good condition. Another half of January left in the calendar, how did you kick start your 2012? As for myself, it feels like I was on the fifth gear now! haha... I started the year with a very tight schedule which I'm used to have but I still manage to go out for badminton and a 5km run, which I love to do. Although it is a lot of work and activity, you would be very happy once the job has been done. Actually it is only the matter of time. Once you done with the job then the tough gets going. However if the job is undone, then the going gets tough! haha... Let's pray for the good and hope all comes good too, Bismillah:)

The Chung Hwa Middle School is a non-government, independent, public-funded Chinese school, established in 1922 by the Chinese community of Brunei. The school is the largest private school in Bandar Seri Begawan. It provides a trilingual (Chinese, English and Malay) learning environment while adhering to the national education policy. Actually the school has three divisions - the Kindergarten, Primary School and Secondary School. Enrollment is approximately 3,500 students looked after by a teaching and non-teaching staff of around 200. The school's main financial resource is derived from student school fees, other fixed income as well as contributions and donations of the Chinese Community in the country. In 1972, the school was honoured when Al-Marhum Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddin consented to officiate the 50th school anniversary. At the same time, a four-storey building was completed to cater for the needs of its secondary students.

To provide quality education to Tiong Hwa community in Brunei, Kapitan China Ong Boon Pang and few dignitaries, after much effort, established a school called York Choi School in 1918. The school had a humble start where it only rented a two-story shop lot as its classroom without a building of its own.

In 1922, the school was named Chung Hwa School and only 16 years later in 1938, the school made a major breakthrough with its own premises situated at Jalan Bendahara. (Source: Chung Hwa Middle School official website).

The BSB Go-Kart Race was held yesterday at the Waterfront (Jalan McArthur and Jalan Sultan) in the capital. Over 50 racers took part in three categories Novice, Open Class and Max. It was happening yesterday and the atmosphere is hot! More reports on The Brunei Times.

Salam, good day. Today bruneidaily.blogspot.com marks its 3rd anniversary, since its establishment on 09-01-09. I admit, the year 2011 is not the productive one for bruneidaily, this is due to my office commitment. Now in 2012, the routine is getting heavier with my eldest daughter is attending a religious school in the morning. Although there is slight change in my daily routine, but I'm sure I can cope with it. So far from what I can see, the year 2012 also has offered us a busy calendar. Haha, this is a real challenge for me, especially for us working with the government. I won't talk much here, because picture speaks a much louder words. May Allah bless us:)

Salam, good day. So far how was your holiday? I hope you do enjoy the long weekend and December holiday especially for those who is spending their time with their beloved family. No matter if you are on holiday abroad or domestically, lets hope the strong bonding among the husband and wife, the kids with their parents etc will last forever. Also, keep in mind that holiday doesn't means shopping freely. But shopping is only part of the holiday and we should only prioritizes the important goods. We should always remember that the new season of school is coming up, I'm sure it also needs large sums of cash for the registration process. Let's make 2011 a memorable year and prepare our self in heading to the new calendar ahead, Tawakkal;)

The first time ever after almost twelve years, I've got myself a football jersey. This was a gift from the management of Fes-Retro to me (thanks Mr Effendi with Mrs Effendi & Mr Habry). I really appreciate this gift and will keep and don this jersey with pride. Why after almost twelve years I didn't don any football team's jersey? Since I joined RTB and being a radio and tv football pundit, the first thing to prevent is being bias. So during the time, I never bought any jersey. Be it on radio or tv, I never publicly told the audience I'm a fan of Liverpool FC. Although I revealed it now on bruneidaily.blogspot, but I assure you that I will not bias to any particular team on my show. Insya Allah:)

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a message of condolences to the family members of the victims of the recent tragic road accident in Tuaran, Sabah that involved the loss of lives and injuries to a number of passengers from Brunei Darussalam.

In the message, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan expressed his great sadness upon coming to know of the accident and extended his condolences to the family members of the victims involved and hoped that they would be patient, and also prayed that the souls of the victims would be blessed and placed with the pious. For those who were injured, His Majesty prayed for their swift recovery.

Following the incident, His Majesty commanded the Ministries concerned including the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, other Ministries as well as the relevant authorities in His Majesty's Government to play their roles in assisting the victims involved. In this regard, His Majesty issued a command for Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, the Minister of Finance Two (II) in the Prime Minister's Office, and Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports who is currently also the acting Minister of Health as well as the Permanent Secretaries from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces to go to Sabah, Malaysia in order to make all necessary arrangements to resolve this matter.

His Majesty also issued a command for all facilities including the costs of medical treatment for the injured and the transportation of the bodies of the victims back to Brunei Darussalam by aircraft to be borne by His Majesty's Government.

A chartered bus carrying a group of Bruneians on holiday was involved in an accident in Sabah. According to a report by a Malaysian newspaper, New Straits Times, the accident occurred at the Ranau-Tamparuli Road near Kampung Kaporingan.

The bus was travelling from Tawau towards Kota Kinabalu rolled twice on the road after the driver lost control of the vehicle, grazed a tourist bus in the opposite direction before coming to a stop about 30 metres away, when it crashed into a tree by the roadside. The group arrived in Kota Kinabalu last Friday and travelled to Tawau where they also spent the night yesterday. They were on their way back to Kota Kinabalu to spend another night before resuming their return journey to Brunei Darussalam today. RTB is currently updating information on the incident.

Salam, good day. I know a I'm a bit late but yet the joyful mood is still on! DPMM FC is back into the S-League challenge for next season. After two years absence, I'm sure Brunei's only professional club need to work hard to get back to full fitness. Under the head coach of Vjeran Simunic, the confidence is very high but we still didn't know the strength of other teams. According to a news posted on DPMM FC's website, Simunic has stated the biggest problem for the team is the lack of competitive games. Despite this,the coach believes that they can attain what they want in the near future. Oh, I can't wait:)

Salam, good day. It’s good to be back with the family after more than a week on assignment abroad. Foooh...I was a bit of a surprised when given this job because soon after return home, I will be on a holiday. This is the rezki and a responsibility as a servant which I should obey.

Alright, have you ever heard of a place called Samarinda?

Samarinda is the capital of the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan on the island of Borneo. The city lies on the banks of the Mahakam River. It is the most populous city in East Kalimantan with a population of 726,223. Although it is the capital of East Kalimantan, some government institutions such as the Police, Indonesian Army District VI Of Tanjung Pura, and Pelabuhan Indonesia (Port Transportation) are located on the island. The city also has a bridge connecting its river banks, Mahakam Bridge. The city center is on one side and the other side is named Samarinda Seberang.

Long before, the cousin of mine have a told me a story of Samarinda. His team of army has visited Samarinda for a military exercises and trainings. Meaning they do have an army camp there and talking about Indonesian army, they are one of the best with one of the toughest training offered.

To go to Samarinda, you should take a connecting flight from BSB either to Singapore or Jakarta, then straight away to Balikpapan (Brunei used to have a direct flight from BSB to Balikpapan long before). It took you a three hours drive from Sepinggan International Airport, Balikpapan to Samarinda and it is very challenging journey! Haha...me myself vomitted more than five times along the way! It was a quick shifting drive and they are very daring too.

It was a memorable journey yet the toughest one, which has cemented in my memory. Local Samarinda’s have told us, once you have drink the water of Mahakam River (main source of drinking water here), one day you will come back here again:)

Soon after landed at Sepinggan International Airport, all the passengers are transfered from the tarmac to the airport terminal by a shuttle bus.

About food, I'm a bit choosy. We went all over to look out for the cleanest eatery and the best food and this is one of them, Dapur Desa Restaurant. Good place for food but a bit cozy.

At the media centre. Funny things about this place, day 1 to day 3 no nothing provided. Day 4 they installed a pc. Day 5, a chair and a table. Day 6, they put on a banner upfront "Borneo Games 2011, Media Centre" and also they put in a sofa. They promise us an internet connection, but until the very last day the internet seems invisible. But being a media personnel we never complaint, we know the problem they are facing. Media members are professionals who is always doing their job to the end, no matter the problems or obstacles they are encountering. The job has to be done!

Salam, good day. Its been a while I didnt share my thoughts here, which is due to my busy schedule which does not permits me to think and write, to snap and show. And I admit, I was a bit lazy too.

But I keep following the current issues. In the footballing world Liverpool has done a very good job against Chelsea in two consecutive matches. However, football was also hit by a tragic death of Gary Speed, Manager of Wales Football Team.

As I remember, Speed is a strong left footer especially during his day with Leeds United which he won the League title in 1992. English football is gonna miss him very much.

About me, last week my long weekend (Saturday, Sunday & Monday) is ruined by high fever. I was on an overnight stay at the the hospital bed. Followed by two days on my bed at home. Haha, my long weekend has been taken!

Now I'm in the process of recovering, whilst also preparing for a week long assignment abroad. This must be challenging and hectic. Hopefully all comes good to me and to my family. Tawakkal:)

Sacrifice.

Salam, good day. Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha to all bruneidaily muslims readers. Brunei Darussalam mark the Aildiladha last Monday, 10 Zulhijjah and now we are in the remaining days of Tasyrik 11, 12 and 13 Zulhijjah. Few buddies of mine were in Mecca and Medinah to perform Haj, I pray for their health and may Allah bless them. Also, I’m yet to have the daging korban *hint*.

Recently I’ve read an article somewhere in our local newspaper which touches on our daily life, I mean some sort of guidance how to live our life in much better way.

Actually I didn’t read the whole article, but just kind of looking at certain points. It came to my interest it was such an excellent article. Somewhere in the middle part of the article ‘…what is the fastest thing in this universe? wind not really, sound not quite…’. Haha,..big questions in my mind. But what is the fastest? The writer wrote ‘…the fastest is the doa, direct to Allah…’. Allahuakbar, I’m touched!

Did we noticed about this before? Did we noticed how closed is Allah to us? Did we noticed Allah is always listening to our doa? Also, did we noticed that we already have enough and few others are living underprivileged?

Prophet Muhammad reported to have said “Doa is the very essence of worship,” while one of Allah’s commands expressed through the Holy Quran is for the muslims to call out to Allah: “And your Lord says: “Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer)!”

As a human being, we could never escape difficulties and at times we are also suffering, but I believe not as a hard as the underprivileged. Financially, materially or physically this is what we as His servant have to face in our life. But we should keep in mind, Allah would only test his servant up to his ability.

Beside our effort working hard to earn a good living, as muslims we are advised to look back inside the holy Quran. They are many chapters and verses of the Al-Quran which is very helpful for us, Surah Al-Waqiah, ayat 54 of Surah Shaad and ayat 2 & 3 of Surah Ath Thalaaq to name a few (Please refer Tafsir for the full translation).

Prophet Muhammad said, "Whoever recites Surah Al Waqiah at night would never encounter poverty." Prophet Muhammad said, "Surah Al Waqiah is the Surah (Chapter) of Wealth, so recite it and teach it to your children."

This is the best scheme ever offered, no agreement needed nor the guarantor either. It is only the matter of believe:)

Fun but challenging.

Salam, good day. Hope abiskita stay in good shape and healthy. Of late I ate too much, heavy meal to be exact. This is not good I’m sure *lol*. A friend of mine once said, ‘...eat to live, but don’t live to eat...’. Please keep this in mind as a motivation in order to control our daily diet. Our very own Health Promotional Centre has put continuous effort and campaign in ensuring the rakyat and residences to live a healthy lifestyle.

However, the past few weeks I’m very active with badminton. Compare to football, badminton is much more fun but challenging and of course very sweating. I love serving and smashing!

During my school days, badminton came second to me after football. I still remember during that time me and my brother with couple of friends played badminton almost every night in an open court. It’s hard to play proper badminton before, we can’t afford to pay an indoor court to play in nor can’t we afford to buy a brand new shuttlecock. But only the determination we got, which urges us to play. To tell you more, we can’t even afford to buy a professional badminton racket.

To recall, we went to collect used shuttlecock at Pusat Belia, Menglait Sports Complex, JKR Sports Complex etc. Haha...maybe it sounds embarrassing but this is the only way for us to get a shuttlecock.

The determination has paid off, my brother has represents his school for the national inter-school tournament and emerged as champion, which is somewhere in 1992-1993. He is one of the best in the school back then, it is very pleasing.

During the time, the Indonesian fast hitting men’s double of Ricky Subagja and Rexy Mainaky has been my idol. I look forward to watch them playing in any tournament. In my opinion, they are the best ever men’s double I’ve ever seen. For me, Subagja is an excellent athlete. His power and stamina has been the key to his success.

Talking about my current activity, I played badminton every Friday and Sunday morning for two hours. It is my first comeback after 15 years lay-off! I have two Yonex rackets which I bought in KL in 2005 and another one in 2010 and never been used since iI bought them!

The new addition to my collection, is the Yonex Nanospeed 500 which has cost me a quite of fortune...haha. But keep it this way, to be a good player you need to have a good professional racket (which is expensive), a good pair of shoes and also a good sparring partner.

About the brand new racket, with the tension measured at 70lbs, it’s highly demanding! According to a friend, the stronger the tension the demand is higher. You need to hit stronger compare to a lower tension racket.

These days, few racket brands are on offer such as Li Ning, Gosen, Carlton, Fly Power and Ashaway. Although, a lot to choose from but so far I’m staying loyal with Yonex of Japan. With new line of Yonex brand on me, the shirt, the shoes and the rackets, now I identifies myself as a badminton player:)

Salam, good day. Hope you doing good and living a cheerful life! Firstly, my appologise if this posting sound harsh but it’s not, my appologise if hits you personally since it is just my humble opinions. Which one do you prefer, the workload given to you or something which is not related to your job but would destroy your career? It would destroy your image if not being handle carefully.
What meant destroy here doesn’t mean totally dismissed from the agency, but you are going to be less favourable. For me, I’m more than willing to accept the workload given to me rather than facing those dirty politics.
Of late or maybe for the past few months, the big guns around me has been acted like kids. Gossips, defame and provocations seems like a daily life for certain people. But one should be careful, ready to face the consequences should the truth revealed.
The keyword here is ‘communication’, when the way of spreading messages or telling story done in incorrect style, something bad would happen upon you. Communication is more than talking. It is an essential part of human life, to be exact office life. It is both talking in a manner in which others can understand you, and hearing in a manner in which you can listen and understand others. So many times people claim that they have no communication problem since they are always talking. However, the majority of the time they are talking "at" and not talking "to" the other person. This is resulting in the recipient or the 'not-listening' listener to tune out.
The truth in spreading messages would also changes it's way if there is accompany with a bit of cronyism, nepotisme as well as favouritism. Although different in words, but they are inter related.
This is where the head or a leader plays their part in order to ensure the workplace is free of defamation and only legitimate messages to be share. It ain’t easy being a leader, it ain’t easy!

He delegates tasks to us, and accomplishes what He Wills through us. But He will not demand the accomplishment of a delegated task without giving us the proper resources to accomplish it. The other side of this coin is that Allah SWT does not demand from us what we do not have the ability to accomplish..."

Allah subhanahu wata'ala quoted in Surah al Baqarah:

"...On no soul does Allah place a burden greater than he can bear..."

So, in human terms, this is a lesson for us when we find ourselves in any position of leadership, that we expect the best from those we delegate tasks to, with two conditions: We do not expect more than we know they are capable of delivering, and we give them the material resources and the training needed to get the job done. One of the well known hadith of the Prophet is:

“...Everyone of you is a caretaker, and every caretaker is responsible for what he is caretaker of...”

Being a leader/caretaker, you should know how to handle organisation. Good governance is lead by a leader, a leader who is caring, listening and reacting but not twitting. For me, as a middle man it is best not to join the dirty dancing with them. However I’m happy to give my opinions when being ask and my prayer goes to people around me. Hope all comes good:)

Salam, good day. It has been a very long weekend but yet an enjoyable one. To conclude the hectic week is the Manchester Derby at old Trafford in which City defeated United 6-1. In other matches, 9-men Chelsea lose 0-1 to QPR and Arsenal thumped Stoke City to a 3-1 scoreline. Beside those interesting matches, motorsport world is again hit by a tragic accident. Marco Simoncelli of Gresini Honda Team suffered a serious accident wherein he sustained a critical injuries. The race was stopped immediately with the red flag and Simoncelli was transported by ambulance to the circuit medical centre where the medical staff worked to resuscitate him. Despite their efforts, Marco sadly succumbed to his injuries at 4:56pm local time. Everyone involved in MotoGP extends its deepest condolences to Marco’s family, friends and team at this tragic loss. Also last week, I attended the official opening of Al-Falaah school in Sungai Akar. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to officiate the new complex.

A gift from His Majesty, the complex is the school's first very own building after 15 years in operation. Established in 1995, it was housed temporarily at Jln Jawatan Dalam and Jln Ong Sum Ping before moving to another location at Taman Manggis, Jln Muara in 2003. In 1999, the school opened another branch at Ban 5.

The new building has the capacity to accommodate 600 people and occupies 3.7 acres of land in Kg Sungai Akar, Jalan Kebangsaan. Click here to read more.

Salam, good day. 17 October every year is the most remembered in my whole life, as it was the day I was born and also the day I got married in 2003. Not only me but my wife was also born on 17 October. Meaning that I got married on my wife’s and my birthday, what a coincidence! Allah knows better and arranged everything nicely for us. This is where the term qadha’ & qadar shows it relevance.

Alhamdulillah, my Mrs has never been expecting much from me on our special day be it materially or on how big we celebrate. But she is the one who gave more instead, preparing the food and etc. But so far the size of our birthday and anniversary celebration is enough to cater our siblings, nephews, nieces and in-laws. Not more than that.

Talking about 17 October, few friends of mine were also born on the same day as mine. We’ve been reminding each other when the time comes nearer *lol* Also thanks to facebook’s birthday reminder so then we know our friends d.o.b, very nice of you fb! Alhamdulillah:)

Salam, good day. I did have an eventful week recently and most of it is related to my job assignment. Making the headline at my work place last week is the new ruling on the office attendance. Actually it ain't new, but only now the ruling is to be implemented. What is the ruling? I won't tell it here. At first, there is a mixed opinions or feelings among my colleagues. But for me as a servant I have a very simple opinion, follow the rules and don't mess with the boss. Tawakkal:)

Alright, the man next to my right is YAM DSP Pengiran Anak Haji Mohammad Saifullah, the son of HRH Princess Hajah Umi Kalsum Al-Islam. I didn't meet him for years, we used to be a school mate. During his school days, I still remember YAM being actively involved with religious activities organised by school. He is a very good boy and now he is a very nice man, very humble. This pic taken yesterday at JPCC during the prize presentation for DANA Golf Tournament 2011.

My first time back to playing court after years of lay-off. On my right is Rosli Tuah, RTB retirees. Nowadays badminton has been my first choice, meaning football came to second *lol* But I'm yet to get a proper pair of badminton shoes as well as a new racquet. Enjoyable!

Salam, good day. Hope all been doing good and live their life in a perfect shape. This blog bruneidaily.blogspot.com (bd) has been inactive for several months, this is due to my office committments. Few buddies has called me up asking why does bd not been updated for several months?

My answer is very simple, very busy and a bit lazy *lol*. My last posting was on 23 May this year.

Alright, let's mark my comeback into blogging world by sharing this ‘soto’ addiction campaign. This is so over long due. Actually, I didn’t remember when I started this campaign but I’ve kept it in my folder for so long. So I think, this is the right moment to publish my ‘menyoto’ activities.

For your info, I have been a big fan of soto *super-fan I should say*. I’m having soto at least once a week and never sick of having them continously. Some people may call it mee rebus or maybe sometime also known as mee sup.

Soto is basically a bowl of meat or chicken soup, accompany with noodles, fried sliced onion, few slice of meat or chicken. Sometimes it is also mixed with vegetables and egg. To make soto taste better, you are advise to mix it with Wah Hong Brand bottled chilli (a.k.a Lada Singapore, referring to its origin and popular among Bruneian and it is a must!) as well as soya sauce ketchup. Nyummm, I’m sure Brunei Darussalam is the best place to have the best soto.

But during my soto travels, only one or two didn't stand out. Please do enjoy the review but remember, we all have different taste, so don't be influenced by my writing here. Below is showing my Top 10 Soto Travels in Brunei Darussalam, Bismillah...:)

At number 10 is Soto Bunut in Kiulap. Actually I wanted to place Soto Rosmini here, but I'm not comfortable with the environment, so I replace Soto Rosmini at number 10 with Soto Bunut.

Number 9 is Soto Selera Babu in Sungai Akar, $1.00 each.

Number 8 is Soto Abang Jaine in Jerudong

Number 7 is Soto Restoran Hayati, simple but tasty.

At number 6 is Soto Rolyani at Batu Bersurat, a bit salty but still good.

At number 5 is at this gerai just across Berakas Sports Complex, good value for money here.

Soto Tinis came at number 4, I wish the price would go down soon.

Soto Kampong at Sumbangsih Bahagia is placed at number 3,

love the environment and good value for money too.

This is very evergreen. Located at Gerai Serambangun, I ranked this Soto Haji Tuah at number 2. It is only because of the distance which does not permits me to come very often. Still doing good!

Thumbs-up from Sa'adah and I make another thumbs-up to make it two. Through out my soto travels, this is the best ever soto I ever had, Soto Sofian. It came with a clear soup, fresh chilli slice, fresh meat and the most important of all, it only cost you $2.00. Current location is in Salambigar, previously is at Kampong Subok. I like the previous location but not the current one. However, it still serve good food and of course good value for money. I'm very addicted!

Next season would be better.

Salam, good day. Despite not meeting the completion date in 2010, the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Waterfront's infrastructure is almost completed except for a few minor details.

The site covers approximately 1.8 hectares and is located within the centre of BSB overlooking the historic Kg Ayer and forms part of the capital's central business district.

The BSB Waterfront will hopefully act as an integrative mechanism that will initiate other proposed developments of a similar nature namely, the Sg Kedayan River Park, improvement and pedestrianisation of Jalan Sultan and Jalan Roberts, Subok Ridge Heritage Park and Kg Ayer Activity Centre.

The masterplan will also comprise an open square and promenade, green urban landscape and public spaces specifically designed for interactive features, privatised open cafes, kiosks and souvenir shops.

I do have a walk this morning for the preview of the launching and it does look inviting. This is the most waited event I'm sure and expected going to be the most remembered:)

AL-QURAN is not only meant to heal one's soul; it is a treasure trove of knowledge to open minds to all forms of learning and is the essence of education and guidance as well as fikrah (thoughts) extolling the greatness of Allah (SWT), said His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al- Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office last night.

Delivering his sabda at the final of the National Al-Quran Recitation Competition for Adults 2011, His Royal Highness said Al-Quran rewards greatly those who read, listen, learn, research as well as practise it.

Allah (SWT) promises rahmat (blessings) and syafaat (forgiveness) to those who love Al-Quran their entire life and the hereafter, he said.

As Muslims, we must always endeavour to seize and seek its secrets. The mercy and blessings of Al-Quran will always accompany us, the crown prince added.

He went on to say that the grace of Al-Quran can be felt by those who love it"Life guided by Al-Quran is a cure for the sick heart and soul and softens stubborn hearts," HRH said.

He urged youths in the country to make reading Al-Quran a culture, as their main source of reading, and seize the opportunity to gain the blessings from it.

"Alhamdulillah, we share the joy that now there are already children who are fluent in reading Al-Quran, even though some may still lack an understanding of its true meanings," HRH said.

We should uphold the efforts being made especially towards elevating Al-Quran in the minds of our generation.

"Therefore, it is appropriate to inculcate in these children education based on Al-Quran and As-Sunnah," HRH said.

Our hope is to see Brunei become a Zikir Nation realised as well as to produce a generation of successors who are knowledgeable, virtuous, with faith and taqwa (to obey and fear of Allah), he added.

This is in line with the nation's philosophy of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) or Malay Islamic Monarchy that has become a key in the development of high-minded human capital in upholding the sovereignty of Islam and the nation. (The Brunei Times)

Salam, good day. The past week has been very hectic for me, 'full blast' is the correct terms I should use to explain my very busy week. But I am sure, as long as you happy with what you are doing, the workload given to you is just like a piece of cake. Easy peasy man!

In the meantime, Alhamdulillah one of our big project (office project) has been postponed due to certain circumstances which need a very complicated explanation. What a relief! Although the preparation are all in place, but on my personal opinion the project should not be organise for now, because we are also preparing for other big events such as the RBAF's Golden Jubbilee Celebration, the Launching of BSB Waterfront Master Plan etc.

Whilst in sports, the footballing season in Europe is heading to the season end. Now we already know who is the league champion of the Premiership, Bundesliga, Primera Liga, Serie A. Meaning that the 'sms confrontation' and 'provocation' among the big teams fans here in Brunei are also coming to an end *lol*.

After all, I'm very hopeful the coming days and weeks is the productive one for me and my family. Prayer and effort is the key to success:)

Salam, good day. It has been a very wonderful week. Although I have been tied up by office committment, but we (my wife and I) are able to spend times with the kids and they seems very happy too. As parents, no other things would make you happy but to see your kids grow in happiness.

My wife and the kids has been the source of my inspiration. At my age, I shouldn't waste my time on silly stuff and unresourceful activities. The kids really needs our attention especially now they are already attending a primary school.

For me, I don't have any other else as my future investment but the Kids. They are my only investment. Investment need to be properly managed in order to get the best outcome of it. In my observations, the best way to get the best deal is you invest $100 and you get $1 profit would be good enough. But not to invest only $1 you expect to get a $100 as profit. Is that make sense?

In the meantime, the past week was also a very special week for all mothers. But from my observation, Mother's Day is actually an exploitation of all mothers in the world for business interest etc. They should be loved and cherished everyday. However, a lot of activities to spice up the Mother's Day being organised by various agencies and that effort deserved positive asessment as well. Roses to all mothers and I pray for their good health.

So, let's hope everything that we have done is going to be a fruitful one and being hardworking will give us a wonderful return. I pray to Allah the most gracious and the most merciful to guide my family heading to the right direction for our own good with Allah's blessing. Have a pleasant week ahead fellas:)

Zahra' is very keen with drawing. I send her to attend a drawing class since 15th April at one of our local most acclaimed artist. So far she did well and she have shown the talent and skills.

Currently she is still under basic drawing technique.

We are expecting a much wider road along Jalan Mc.Arthur or best known among locals as 'Jalan Kastam Lama'. Few months back we are also seeing a construction work by the riverside along Jalan Residency. The road cliff of Jalan Residency is to be extended few feet away from the current width. We are also seeing a major piling works there which is appear to be part of Bandar Seri Begawan Waterfront Development Plan.

Seve Ballesteros who died Saturday aged 54, was one of golf's all-time greats, a charismatic figure who lifted five majors, led the European challenge to the decades-long US supremacy and turned a new generation on to the sport. I still remember watching SB playing in the 80's and 90's, he is someone that current golfers should follow. The most remembered of SB is his Rolex TV commercial (being aired by local cables in the 90's, SB putting a long way to win a title at Augusta). Although I'm not a golfer or a fan of golf, but I am one of his fans!

Salam, good day. Today my Mom celebrate her 61st birthday. Alhamdulillah, at this age Mom still able to do house chores whilst at the same time she is also doing a small scale of business (food supply). In my family, there is no easy living. We have been suffering at times but thats not the case. With the help of Allah, we are able to cope with it, we should learn from difficulties but not to live with them. Compare to our cousins and relatives, we are a bit further behind financially and academically. But now, Alhamdulillah we live our life in a much better way. Although there is few problems has arise in our living, we have to admit that is life. Again, talking about Mom, she has been very inspirational! From my Day 1 until now, I can see Mom has been very hardworking which is no other reason just to make a good living for our family. Although Mom is very strict to us, but I'm sure this is for our own good. May Allah bless you Mom, stay in a good health and obedient to Allah subhanahu wata'ala. Love Azmi:)

Salam, good day. Today Radio Brunei marks their 54th anniversary with the recital of Surah Yaasin, Tahlil and thanksgiving at Studio 'A' RTB. It all began 54 years ago during Hari Raya. May 2, 1957 is an important date for broadcasting in Brunei Darussalam as on that day, the words 'Inilah Radio Brunei' or 'This is Radio Brunei' echoed across the nation by Dayangku Intan binti Pengiran Datu Penghulu Haji Apong. Now Radio Brunei serves five radio networks with 24-hour service. I'm quite sure Radio Brunei is not far behind in the flow of technological developments. According to the information I've gathered, Radio Brunei began broadcasting in an Analogue format whilst the FM Stereo format was introduced in the 70s and now they are broadcasting in Digital DAB format. Radio Brunei has also entered the internet world with the launch of its Net Radio in 1999. Hmmm, this has been a long line of history by Radio Brunei and I hope they would able to fulfill the needs and demands from the listeners nationwide and worldwide, congrats:)

Salam, good day. My appologise for not being up to date of late, I was been tied up with a bunch of works. I ain't workaholic but the works has come to me and again its bunch of them!

In the past few weeks, there has been a lot events internationally. What catch my interests me the most is The el-Classico in the European Champions League, The Royal Wedding (although I didn't watch them live on telly). Whilst locally there is PRYNSA Awards etc. I didn't came up with my posting on those events, haha busy with assignments!

Later tonight was a big match in the Premiership, at The Emirates Arsenal will face Manchester United and Liverpool will go againts Newcastle.

Also just days ago, iPad 2 is officially launched in Brunei. What I heard it is such a big hit among locals. I'm yet to buy or use any tablets so far but my priority on my wish list is the iPhone 4.

Well, now we are in the month of May. I'm sure there is more to come and I hope I would be able to cope with them. Whilst tomorrow Brunei State's Radio Service will turns 54 years since its formation back in 2 May 1957. Cheers:)

Bandar Seri Begawan - In conjunction with the launching of the Health Promotion Blueprint 2011-2015 and health promotion campaign, the Ministry of Health yesterday organised a Health Promotion Premier Walkathon. The event took place at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the capital.

His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik attended the walkathon. Upon arrival, HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik was greeted by Minister of Health, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Md Yusof.

The event started off with a warm up and aerobic session for 15 minutes led by Mohd Darus Tanjong and staff from Department of Youth and Sports and Health Promotion Centre.

It was followed by HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik launching the Health Promotion Premier Walkathon.

After the launch, Prince 'Abdul Malik together with some 6,000 people participated in the walkathon which covered 3.5 kilometres for men and 3.4 kilometres for women. Apart from the public, the event was also participated by personnel from ministries, government departments, higher-educational institutions, civil servants, private companies, Mukim and village consultative councils, school students and some associations.

The Health Promotion Blueprint 2011-2015, which was launched on April 20, is a health promotion networking document which contains short- and medium-term strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle and to prevent and control the occurrence of chronic diseases in the nation.

In an interview with the Bulletin, Dyg Rine Karim, one of the government officers, said, "In order for me to keep myself healthy, I must allocate myself time to take part in sports activities. I have even enrolled with one of the fitness centres to ensure I do some exercise and I am also strict in my diet."

Mohd Darns has opted to stay away from smoking, do regular exercise, consume less fatty foods, especially fast food, and eat more fruits and vegetables. He added that "healthy living is not an option but it is a responsibility for individuals to carry out in order to support the nation's emphasis on healthy living".

Practising a healthy lifestyle by doing physical activities is one of the best ways to prevent and control chronic diseases such as heart failure, diabetes, obesity or other health problems.

Nur Shariza, 25, from the private sector said, "The Health Promotion Blueprint is a good initiative by the Ministry of Health.

"Brunei has one of the highest rates of chronic diseases, therefore, its is the right time to enforce the blueprint and this shows how we as a nation is responsible to fight the diseases by practising a healthy lifestyle. Hopefully, in the years to come the rate would gradually decrease." (Borneo Bulletin).
