As those new packages hit the shelves in Hong Kong, they caught the eye of an acquaintance of Eric Johnson, and she snapped this photo:

The store was still switching over from the older packaging to the new, which is why you see both vintages side by side. In the middle is the new, fancier Science Diet package-- featuring Saba, who happens to be Eric Johnson's Siberian Husky. So not only are Eric's images reaching consumers across the world, but they get to see the smiling face of his furry friend as well.

SIDE NOTE: The shelf prices are in Hong Kong dollars (7.75 HKD = $1.00 US)
Why, photos by Brandon Voges, of course... You might be wondering how we got such a genuine facial expression out of our talented barker. Naturally, we made him bark like a real ballpark beerslinger.

Not too long ago, our friends at Waylon Advertising approached us with a very unique project-- to create a 30-second TV spot from still images. To add a little spice, they also noted that we would be shooting on location at the nursery at St. John's Mercy Hospital (read: limited production access), and that we would need to turn around the images (we'd need hundreds of stills to fill a 30-second spot) in less than a day. [BREAK]

These are the kind of circumstances in which Bruton Stroube photographers shine. Tom and Jen produced the hell out of it, got us talent for the "dad," found us a cute newborn, and found us real nurses (who were great at acting) to round out the cast.

We shot with a Canon 1D Mark III, which is capable of shooting up to 30 RAW frames at 10 frames/second. We also used some ARRI hot lights, since strobes wouldn't recycle fast enough to shoot at a high framerate.

The shoot consisted of several planned camera moves-- rack focuses from dad's hand to the baby's face, pans from the dad to the nurse holding the baby, etc. Each move had to be executed while maintaining a shallow focus and cranking away with the motor drive.

Nearly 8,000 frames and 50 Gb of disk space later, we had our take. The next step was to edit through those images and crank them through some Photoshop actions to give them a little stylistic kick. Then they were handed over to The Vision Factory for editing and soundtrack.

The Vision Factory made their final cut the next day, and the TV spot was ready to air the following weekend. Pretty amazing turnaround time, especially on an unconventional project. The result is a somewhat surreal stop-motion-feel piece that we're pretty proud of.

Thanks to everyone who was involved with this project, we couldn't have pulled it off without you.
Not to toot our own horn that we would do something Thank-You-worthy (though we do like a little 'toot-toot' from time to time). Anyway, an Italian photographer and some of his homies had seen the Paintball Office video, and decided to take some of the techniques and run with them for their annual Christmas card (shown below).

Greg's image, Elle's Window #1, can be seen amongst the other nominees in the Architectural - Pro category at the Black & White Spider Awards Gallery.
